Microsoft Laptop or MacBook Air for a computer science student? Posted: 25 Jan 2022 04:23 AM PST Im going to keep this nice and short but essentially I'm in college right now as a computer science major and I'm looking for a laptop to use. I'm not really sure which laptop or OS would be best for CS. I've always used windows and I already have a custom gaming PC that I put a couple thousand dollars into, which makes me want to lead more into a windows laptop but if you guys would tell me that a MacBook Air would be better I am not opposed to it. It would definitely just take some getting used to because I really don't know ANYTHING about Mac but I'm a quick learner. Now for my budget. I really don't want to spend anything more $1,000 BUT If really need be I'd max at around $1,200. Also this may sound like a dumb question but if I were to get a MacBook Air, would it be easy for me to transfer work, files, etc over to my PC? Like I said I don't know anything about Mac so sorry if this is a dumb question lol ALSO THANK YOU FOR YOUR FEEDBACK! Greatly appreciated 🙏🏼 [link] [comments] |
"heavy duty work" (Gaming) laptop for around $2000 AUD? Posted: 25 Jan 2022 07:14 AM PST LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
Preferably over 15 inches
I often play rocket league, RDR2, project cars, battlefield 2042, cs:go etc. *
I would ideally like a sufficiently powered gaming laptop with great battery life and a great screen.
So, I have been looking at the ROG zephyrus series, even though it is quite out of my price range, there may be some wiggle room with the fact I can write it off on tax due to being used primarily for work. And seeing rtx3060s in gaming laptops is a good sign, however, i run a 3080, and at times that has issues running some games smoothly, so my yardstick for "is this card enough to max out game X" is way off. Any help would be great! Cheers! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Jan 2022 07:11 AM PST I'm looking for a laptop that will last me through my undergrad/MS classes in CS. I'm hoping to concentrate in AI/ML. Any ideas on what laptop I should purchase? Are there certain specs I should prioritize? I won't need it for gaming at all, but I'm open to gaming laptops if they're more amenable to my school work. [link] [comments] |
Laptop for interior architect student Posted: 25 Jan 2022 07:09 AM PST Hi everyone, I need your help for choosing a laptop for my new study. I'm from the Netherlands so the laptop has to be available there. I have actually no idea what laptop to choose tbh… I'll be using CAD programs like Vectorworks, Sketchup and Twinmotion. I'd prefer a windows laptop because of the price and I wouldn't want it to be refurbished. Because of those programs I will have to save multiple projects so I also need a lot of space. The laptop will be my working station so it should be able to work with all those programs.. I want a 15 inch screen or bigger. Please help a girl out because I am lost 😬 I hope for some suggestions 😊 If you have more questions let me know.. The question form:

Please advise on a new gaming laptop Posted: 25 Jan 2022 05:58 AM PST Hello, please help me choose between these options. I'll be upgrading the RAM to 16GB.
I play a variety of games and looking to play F1, FPS games, RDR2 and AC: Valhalla. I'm leaning towards the Dell or Lenovo, just because I'm not a huge fan of the black/red colour scheme on the MSI. Looking for the best advice in terms of the GPU/CPU combinations. Thank you! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 24 Jan 2022 11:02 PM PST As mentioned in the title, I'm on the hunt for a decent laptop that can smoothly run Minecraft (java edition) (with some light mods) at 60 FPS. I'll also be using it for general web browsing and some schoolwork. I'd like no less than 8gb ram.
Prefer not to spend more than $600 USD
Nope, looking to get a new one.
Performance first, build quality second, battery life third.
Not important at all.
Screen size isn't super important, but 14 inches or larger would be nice.
Not doing any editing at all.
Really just Minecraft with light mods, 60 FPS.
Nope.
At least 8gb ram, and I really just want it to not be slow. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Jan 2022 04:23 AM PST So uh recently my 8yr old alienware died (rip) and I'm in need of a new one I might not buy it soon because I'm really low on cash and I didn't expect my laptop to die lmao This would be my first time buying a laptop because my alienware was actually gifted and I'm close to no experience with all this tech stuff But I did educate myself on the basics so I at least know what to buy from help on yt channels like Jarrod and many others, lots of reddit posts has helped me too. So before I lay my question I'm open to any opinions on the experiences (pros/cons) on the laptops I'm about to give and maybe even suggestions for others I'm open to any help cuz I really need a new laptop to continue my work (What I use my laptop for: I do some gaming with it whenever I'm free for about 1-4hrs max, I don't need ultra graphics all I want is a good and smooth gameplay even 30fps would be a blessing. Would prefer to upgrade to medium or high or customized graphics in games. Other than that I mainly use it for my work which takes most of my hours and that's why I need a good build for use. I also do some side hobbies whenever I feel in the creative mood. Stuff like : animating, drawing, some manga work if im really feeling it, more on the artsy side of things. I would prefer a cheaper price but at the same time I don't want a laptop that'll die in a year. That's all I ask for a laptop.) So through research I found 2 laptops that suit my budget, one for the sake of my cash and one for the sake of longetivity and good reviews. And that's the Acer nitro 5 & the Legion 5. Acer nitro 5 specs: i5 or i7 11th gen. 8GB ram (upgradable) RTX 3050 512GB SDD Price for about 700-1k Now the Acer nitro 5 has been on my eyes of course because of its good price and everyone has said the upgraded version of it makes it one of the best gaming laptops but it isn't great for work. The build of it isn't best from what I heard, some say the cooling is good some say is bad I'm not sure who to trust.. although the price is really good for what's it offering I heard that ram boosts performance by a ton so maybe I can upgrade the ram in the future So please let me know your thoughts on this. Legion 5 specs: Ryzen Amd 5600h 16GB RAM RTX 3050 ti 512 SDD Price for a whooping 1599$ Now, I don't need to say much about this one, the Legion 5 is everywhere. Especially from watching Jarrod this laptop always hits the tops so my hopes on this thing is sky high. But I do have some questions. Like the price... it's a good 1600$ is it worth it? I heard the build is decent and it's a great gaming laptop, the battery life isn't the best so it's best for plug in while gaming and I heard that The 3050 isn't good... So for a laptop that's 1600$ is it worth it? That's all I like to know. Thank you in advance for anyone that replies! Like I said I don't know much about these tech shit and it's my first time buying myself a laptop that'll hopefully last a few years so yeah👍 [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jan 2022 11:00 PM PST So I'm looking at getting a new laptop. I'd like it to have an rtx 3070. I don't want to spend a huge amount of money. I'm in the uk, so my budget is £'s. I'd say probably £1400 at the most ideally, maybe stretch to £1500 if the laptop suggested is REALLY worth it kinda thing. Out of all the places I've looked online so far, the lenovo legion 5 (15.6 inch) with an AMD processor and rtx 3070 seems to be the best laptop available in the budget according to reviews? Any help would be appreciated 👍 Thanks Edit: meant to say this laptop will primarily be used for gaming. Types of game include isometric rpg's (pathfinder kingmaker, divinity original sin 2 etc etc) strategy (company of heroes, iron harvest, stellaris etc etc) action rpg's (the witcher 3, assassins creed etc etc) and the just cause and far cry series. I'm not too fussed about fast paced online shooters for example, or games like cod and battlefield. 👍 [link] [comments] |
Looking for a laptop for video editing GoPro 360 videos. Posted: 25 Jan 2022 02:24 AM PST Never used a Mac before so I'm leaning away from them. Budget is around £1300 GBP. The videos I want to edit are from the GoPro max. It shoots in 5.6k for the 360 video but after editing and keyframing the final result will be 1080. Not interested in gaming on it.
