Every PC case should have upgradeable front IO ports Posted: 04 Dec 2021 04:00 PM PST I can't believe why it is not the norm. I don't want to change a case with the reason of evolution of USB ports. [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Dec 2021 06:36 PM PST Be kind im old. So i wanted to replace my motherboard and cpu. I got a ryzen 3600 and a b450 tomahawk max ii. I then proceded to take out both and then spend about an hour and a half youtubing how to just nechanicly put it into the case with the correct power connections etc. I did absolutely no prep on a bios or a drive or what have you. I thought it was basically plug and play. Turned it on and got nothing except a Ez debug red light on the cpu. Any help would be appreciated. I read one article regarding windows and whether or not i oqned the licence and apprentlt i do so no lrob there. [link] [comments]

Some powder from whey protein in PC case Posted: 05 Dec 2021 05:51 AM PST Hi Guys, Today i have a very weird question... I dropped my whey protein near my PC. I'm afraid that some "dust", from the packaging of the protein powder, could get into my PC and fall into my components and fan like regular dust. Is there anyone, who have knowledge about how it can be dangerous to PC. Is protein powder can be conductive? I know.. it's weird. [link] [comments]
The Build so Far, What Would You Change? Posted: 05 Dec 2021 08:47 AM PST I have to start building my PC ASAP, in time for thesis. I am building this for 3D animation and most other creative work (video editing, photoshop, etc). Cpu: 5950X GPU: 3080 or 3090, cant decide. My GPU suddenly stopped working in the middle of a game and I'm not sure why Posted: 05 Dec 2021 08:21 AM PST I've only had a computer for ~1.5 years so I'm not super smart tech-wise with them. My current GPU is a rx580, it's served me well so far but today I was playing BF2042 when suddenly the game freezes, the screens go black, I heard a small metallic "pop" and suddenly the GPU lights are off, my 2nd monitor that was attached to the GPU HDMI is not responding, and task manager no longer detects it. I'm not sure how to proceed with troubleshooting this. I'm assuming its a physical issue because of the "pop" but if it's not then how can I possibly get it back up and running? I'm worried that I'll need to get a new graphics card in the current market. If I need to I will but I'm also worried and scared that I'll mess something up. Please Help, scratch killed mobo? Posted: 05 Dec 2021 01:29 AM PST Hi I was swapping out my AIO and needed plyers to remove non-cooperative screws and accidently made a reasonable scratch on my motherboard near my CPU. Since doing this I've tried powering on, all LED's light up, however my GPU doesn't start or give a display (All power is connected) My MSI motherboard gives an LED error for DRAM, The ram seems fine, LEDs lit up, and I reseated the CPU which should also be fine. I am mostly concerned since the scratch did go across what looks like some important circuits On closer inspection it looks like it may have cut across what connects CPU and RAM Thanks for any assistance Here are links to the pictures [link] [comments]
Upgraded my GPU but I got lower fps. Posted: 04 Dec 2021 03:55 AM PST I upgraded my gpu from a 1060 6gb to a 3060 and now I have lower fps in FFXIV. My fps went from a stable 120 in ffxiv to 100 after the swap. I used DDU and got the right drivers and everything. My cpu usage when playing the game is around 40-50% and it's the same with my GPU that is around those numbers. My cpu is an i5 8600k. This is my GPU stats when playing FFXIV https://imgur.com/a/GK6OeV1 Edit: A great thanks to everyone who commented and helped me boost my fps. I still don't know exactly what caused it but it's a lot better. Edit 2: It now seems to be solved as my fps is good and my gpu is stable at 70% vs 20% cpu. No idea what was the solution but I guess a mix of everything Edit 3: I got it to 80-99% gpu load with 30-50% cpu load. My GPU is between 50-60 degrees celcius at this load and my cpu is under 50 at that load. Should I OC my CPU or GPU? Maybe both? This post got quite a bit of traction so hopefully it will help people in the future. There was so many suggestions on what I should do and I tried most of them and edit 3 was the result! Also, since this post got quite popular I'll write the changes I made that gave me the best results for the people in the future that will see this.

[HELP] Which RTX 3000 Series GPU For My Needs? Posted: 05 Dec 2021 07:13 AM PST I had an opportunity to snag a Founders Edition Nvidia RTX 3090 at MSRP for $1,500 the other day, but missed the opportunity after contemplating too long because I am completely clueless. I have some basic knowledge from reading articles like Tom's Guide, but I would say it's a very rudimentary understanding that doesn't extend too far beyond knowing "higher number better" (3090 > 3080 Ti > 3080, etc.). I am hoping some answers provided here will help so that next time I can feel comfortable knowing I am making a well-informed decision as opposed to just an educated guess. My preference for Nvidia mostly stems from some features such as more developed ray tracing, DLSS, and a slight edge with G-Sync (at least, this is my impression from Tom's Guide, "AMD vs Nvidia: Who Makes the Best GPUs?"). Given the amount of money, I'd like to have all the bells and whistles. Despite the massive elephant in the room of it being virtually impossible to find graphic cards at retail price, I've still used it as a reference point to compare. From what I gather, the 3080 offers much more power than the 3070 for just a $200 price difference. From that point alone, I feel like I am at least interested in a 3080 or above. It is at this point where things start to get murky. The most demanding activity I hope for this PC to be capable of is playing competitive online games at 1440p/144Hz (4K with high refresh rates would be a pipe dream), while simultaneously streaming on Twitch without a noticeable drop in framerate. The more demanding titles I am interested in playing include the likes of Battlefield 2042, The Division 2, Warzone, and others. I should mention I am primarily interested in streaming as a hobby, not as a means of making money at all. I've enjoyed making an occasional video compilation of playing with my friends, and like the prospect of streaming in order to have a system for recording gameplay. I also like the idea of having some interaction with viewers if there ever were any, but that isn't a necessity to me. My largest concerns for my setup are as follows: 1. I will experience a large drop in refresh rate when trying to stream a GPU-intensive game on high settings on Twitch 2. A single PC setup will not suffice for my intentions. I'd prefer a minimalistic look without clutter, and would like to avoid a separate dedicated "streaming PC". However, it seems like a lot of streamers with good-looking feeds utilize a second PC 3. Gaming with added peripherals and multiple screens will detract from the immersion and gaming experience. Up to this point, I've been a console gamer. I am worried a mounted mic, ring light, Sony a6100 camera, and multiple screens (if I needed them) would distract me from what I love to do: video games. With all of these considerations, I am not sure which graphics card will best suit me best, the RTX 3080, 3080 Ti, or 3090. I do not mind spending a larger amount of money for a GPU that can last me a long time. To my disappointment, the choices do not end here. Even if I knew which GPU I wanted, I only recently learned they are produced by different manufacturers with different optimizations. Before doing any research, I assumed the reference/"Founders Edition" GPUs would be best, as they are manufactured by the company who designed the cards architecture. I thought the originators would surely outdo third-party competitors. However, I'm not so sure after reading an article from Tom's Guide titled, "Graphics Card Face-Off: Founders Edition or Reference GPUs vs 3rd-Party Design". This article made it seem Add-in Board (AIB) custom cards were better optimized. If AIB's are (generally) higher quality than the reference cards, here are some additional questions: 1. Would I be better off getting a higher-end 3080/3080 Ti AIB than getting a 3090 FE? If AIB's use top-shelf components with improved cooling and dual or triple fans, would the lower tier AIB last longer or be better than the higher tier FE at a similar price point? If it boils down to me spending around $1,500, am I better off getting an MSI 3080/3080 Ti, or just the 3090 FE? 2. As an extension from the previous question, if I am already spending $1,500, at that point should I spend an extra $700 for the MSI RTX 3090? 3. If I get an AIB, how do I know which one? In general, it seems like MSI and Asus are popular. 4. If I plan to utilize liquid cooling, are dual or triple fans important? Note that so far I have NOT purchased any other components! This will be my first piece to building my PC. And again, I do realize the current market and inflated prices for graphics cards. I'm either willing to continue waiting it out, or working feverishly to get one from Microcenter and/or Best Buy. So far I have had one opportunity to buy a 3080 Ti at Microcenter and one opportunity for a 3090 at Best Buy, but didn't on either occasion because I did not want to regret my decision. THANK YOU SO MUCH TO ANYONE WHO CAN PROVIDE ME GUIDANCE!! Bonus Question: I have also recently picked-up a PS5; can I utilize the same monitor that I use for PC gaming also for console gaming, AND use that same monitor/PC for streaming? I have a suspicion that if I want to stream from a console I am going to have to use a second PC and a capture card, but I'm not sure if this is true. Don't have enough motherboard standoffs Posted: 05 Dec 2021 04:26 AM PST I bought a prebuilt years ago and I plan on replacing the motherboard so I can have a 4th gen Ryzen, however my current mobo is a slim ATX so it only uses 6 standoffs instead of 9, and all of the motherboards I have been looking at are full sized ATX. I have contacted cooler master to see if they can send me the standoffs but is there anything else I should do? [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Dec 2021 02:11 AM PST Hey Guys. Which Combination would you choose? RX6700XT + 5600X OR RTX3070 + 11400f for 115$ MORE [link] [comments]
Best mid size case for 6800 XT? Posted: 05 Dec 2021 10:01 AM PST I'm building a new PC based around the 6800 xt GPU. Primary use cases will be gaming, Unity/game development, and 4k video editing. I'm looking for advice on the best mid size case - "best" meaning ease of access, ventilation, sufficient space for the rest of the parts, etc. Below is my PC Part Picker list with the other components. Any advice or recommendations welcome. Thanks

Question on what GPU will match my CPU Posted: 05 Dec 2021 09:54 AM PST I have a Ryzen 7 3700x and I was wondering what GPU matches it without much bottleneck on either side. I'm just kinda wondering because I think it would be a waste to buy a GPU that is way more powerful [link] [comments]
Help choosing an SSD please :) Posted: 05 Dec 2021 09:16 AM PST Hi, over Black Friday I purchased 2 SSD's but don't know which one fits my needs better. The first https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B08TB1D2WC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 $281 Cad pre tax The second https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07MFZXR1B/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 $250 CAD pre tax I bought the Corsair one because of the higher write and read speeds but got told that it's a QLC SSD which is bad apparently because it will becomes really slow if I put my OS on it. I bought the Samsung one because it had good reviews and cheaper and apparently it's SLC which reviewers seem to prefer. My use: I want an SSD that I can use in my build now and in my next build which will be in a year or 2, so future proof if possible. I want to put my OS on it and as many games as I can like warzone which I currently have on a HDD and it's not working good. Also I see something about Gen 4 but I can't tell if the Samsung has it or not. If something else is better in the price range of these 2 then I would apricate the recommendations. Thank you for any help Bumbarito :) [link] [comments]
First build for gaming and artificial intelligence. Any advice or feedback? Posted: 05 Dec 2021 09:15 AM PST Hello, I'm planning on building my first custom desktop computer, therefore I would appreciate if I could get some feedback on the parts I've selected. The computer will be used for both gaming (for all types of games, such as Rocket League, Cyberpunk 2077, GTA V, etc.) and artificial intelligence, wether it's algorithms run on the CPU or GPU, hence I need a good CPU and a good CUDA compatible GPU. My budget is of 2000€ (around 2260$), however I am willing to go up to 2200€ (around 2500$) if the 200€ difference makes a substantial performance difference. The parts I am thinking of are ( https://pcpartpicker.com/list/z2MVt8 ):
Excluding the GPU, this totals to a little under 1200€ (around 1360$), giving me a margin of 800€ (around 900$) to 1000€ (around 1130$) for the GPU. In addition, I would also appreciate if I could get some advice on how I could add some color lighting to the computer, in order to create some ambient light inside the case so that the components are somewhat visible. I thought of simple replacing the original front case fans, with some RGB fans, however I've also seen the use RGB LED strip lights for this purpose. What do you recommend? And if you think replacing the fans is the best approach, which fans do you recommend? [link] [comments]
I'm getting an older office PC and I'm wondering what I can do to boost it's specs. Posted: 05 Dec 2021 09:04 AM PST It's specs from what I know are Xeon 2630 Quadro k5000 32gb of ram (idk which type of ram) I'm planning on over clocking the GPU until I can get a new one and installing an ssd. My dad found it sitting in a closet and I've been wanting a PC for awhile now and we thought this would be a good starting point My future plans are a 1660 super or a 1060 ti and a better processor if I find one on sale [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Dec 2021 09:04 AM PST Parts on order, coming this week. Skipping the GPU for now and using the Ryzen 5600G until I can find a GPU at a reasonable cost. Any tips would be appreciated as I start to build it next week! [link] [comments]
CPU and motherboard compatibility Posted: 05 Dec 2021 08:57 AM PST So currently I'm running an i5 6600k CPU on a gigabyte z170 gaming k3 motherboard which uses a lga 1151 socket. Looking to upgrade to a i7 9700k which uses the 1151 socket however just wanted to check if this is actually compatible as pc part picker doesn't seem to want to list the motherboard and CPU combo despite using the correct socket type. Ideally I would like to keep the same motherboard as it seems like a chore replacing it so if the i7 9700k is not compatible does anyone have any other CPU recommendations? New CPU/MB not getting along with my H80i GT Posted: 05 Dec 2021 08:56 AM PST
Help would be greatly appreciated. PC starts up fine. Idle temps are mid 30s. Start up BF2042 to see how it runs. Within a couple minutes in game temps are shooting up well above 70s into the 90s. I shut it down, reapply paste and try again. Go to start up game and same issue with the CPU temps. Granted I've had this pump for over five years now was working fine on my old CPU two days ago. Corsair link says the pump is spinning around 2000 rpm. Temp of liquid says its +-35 but didn't rise that much when I was on BF. Also says the fans are running. Going to try to reapply paste and remount. I guess it could be my mount job. If none of that works, Is it my pump possibly? PC works fine otherwise. Posted: 05 Dec 2021 08:54 AM PST Hello! I'm really thinking about "upgrading" my desktop. Right now the motherboard is on its way out (it's from 2012 or so) and with school I can't risk loosing access! I don't play many demanding games (Rimworld, zomboid, stellaris) so I don't need an *amazing* performance. Right now my RX 470 seems to handle everything (Its also now worth more than my entire computer when I first got it used??) but I have a choice: Keep the Rx 470 and buy a new Ryzen (No integrated graphic) cpu or Buy a Ryzen 7 5700G and sell the rx 470. Online it's really hard to tell if the 5700G is better or worse than the rx 470. Are they similar or is the 5700G way better? Even if it's worse I'd take a small hit to my performance for this side grade to get a fully working motherboard. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Dec 2021 08:45 AM PST Recently got in PC building and gaming and bought a prebuilt (I know I know). However I'm trying to learn more to expand and change my PC when the time comes. Looking for an upgrade from my gtx970 Posted: 05 Dec 2021 04:58 AM PST My 970 has served me well for the last few years considering I got it second hand but have recently come into some issues with it so looking for an upgrade. My budeget is around £300 (~$400) I've been looking at a 1660 or maybe a 1070 although I know it's a fairly older card. Any help would be much appreciated! Posted: 05 Dec 2021 08:42 AM PST I usually plug in my earphone in the front audio jack of my PC. but suddenly it started to get a bit loose and I can sometimes only hear music from the right earphone only and sometimes it'll disconnect or even makes a distorted sound [link] [comments]
Which parts should you NOT reuse from an aging PC? Posted: 04 Dec 2021 01:16 PM PST My desktop is about to celebrate its 8th birthday and is well overdue some for some upgrades. I'd like to reuse as many components as possible, but I have some concerns about mixing and matching old and new or reusing in general since things wear out and tech improves. Am I being foolish trying to save some cash here? I'm thinking of reusing the 1. case, 2. power supply, 3. GPU, and 4. the non-OS drives. My two big concerns are with the age of the power supply (although it's a beast and has never really been pushed that hard), and case's cooling since I'd like to move from an AIO (Corsair H100i) to air-cooled (Noctua NH-D15 or maybe even smaller). To a much lesser degree, the case's front panel I/O is outdated and can't seem to find a suitable replacement. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks gentlemen and ladies--I appreciate the input! Here's what I have:
And here's what I just purchased or will be picking up:
