App to measure charging speed with newer charging standards

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 10:43 AM PDT

I recently got a Pixel 6 Pro and have Ampere installed. I have a 65W USB PD plugged in, but realized that it's actually charging at a higher voltage than the phone's battery, so the simple battery voltage (~3.7v to ~4.2v) * (mA draw) doesn't work anymore.

Is there any other app that can tell what *voltage* is currently being used for charging? I've been searching but haven't been able to find anything

    Capturing video with screen off

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 06:17 AM PDT

Hey recently i started to ride a bike more and I've been thinking about recording my trips. I don't want to buy any fancy stick cameras like gopro, my phone camera i s good enough. Although recording it with open screen is hard asf cause of missclicks. Also I downloaded couple of apps from play store and they seem to record in not as good quality as my phone is able to so here i ask about app that will capture video in greatest quality with screen turned of, thanks

    Looking for a low-memory clock-and-weather widget

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 09:37 AM PDT

The one I'm currently using (Weather & Clock Widget for Android) takes up about 17 MB of RAM. It looks nice but I want to take this usage down to a few MB if possible. I'm open to all suggestions. Thanks.

I would like to run two instances of Instagram and snapchat at the same time without having to log in and out of eachother.

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 08:58 AM PDT

Hello I would like to have 2 snapchat and maybe Instagram accounts logged in at the same time in 2 separate instances. I hate having to log in and out of each. Can this happen easily? Is there an app for it?

Is there an alternative to KDE Connect on Windows 10?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 12:17 PM PDT

First: I know that theres a windows version of KDE Connect

But it constantly crashes and often doesn't even work unless I open the main window from the tray icon (kdeconnectd.exe just isn't running sometimes???)

Anyways, it's shit on windows now for me.

Any alternatives? I mostly just need it to send media control commands from my phone.

Simple photo editing, or something like it?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 11:48 AM PDT

Basically I need an app for my estimators.

What they're doing now is taking satellite pics of job sites from Google Earth, printing them out, and highlighting areas where work is to be done and scribbling notes.

That's what I need, but in an app. And I'd need those sketches to be excited as PDFs as well.

    Any recommendations?

Convenient way to transfer from PC to android and vice versa?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 11:21 AM PDT

I already saw the sticky and tried most of the apps, they don't meet the criteria.

    I am looking for:

A way to transfer and browse files from windows PC to android (preferably if via wifi, PC doesn't have bluetooth) without the meddling of web browsers or mailing involved.

I used ES file manage in the past, but dropped it because it became...spyware-ish/adware-ish in the latest years.

What i tried and my issues with it:
    • KDE transfer: there is an app for android and a software for linux, windows is not officially supported so you have to personally compile it (which seems to be quite a complex process).

    • Snapdrop: seems easy to use, but it uses web-browser to transfer files and need to open snapdrop.net (via web browser), to send and recieve files which i would like to avoid. I don't want chrome or other browser knowing what goes between my PC and android phone.

    • Sharik: Install both on PC and android to avoid using a web browser...and to recieve a file from PC to android...need a web browser to download it. Honestly, this is convoluted and defeats the purpose of an app if will go through a web browser to actually do a transfer.

I can't believe only a spyware/malware app can do what i am looking for but can't find anything, is there an open source and trustworthy software/app i can install in my PC and android to browse my pc files and move files between PC and android (both ways), no web browsers involved?

Google pixel 4 messages app not notifying me of incoming messages

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 10:59 AM PDT

Anyone know how to fix this or any possible work around? My setting are all set to default but only four people notify me, three of whom make sense and one of whom absolutely doesn't. It calls these four people "conversations" but I can't for the life of me figure out how to either make everyone a conversation or just get regular notifications. I'm fully updated on Android 12 and messages. This has been happening for about 2 months and I hoped the upgrade to 11 would fix it but it hasn't. I'm missing important messages from my boss and it's making me look really stupid.

I have no problem recording notifications from other messaging apps like what's app or Facebook messenger.

    Email apps

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 10:24 AM PDT

I've been using BlueMail on Android since I was using a Motorola Z2 Play. I'm now using a Samsung Galaxy s20+, and there are some parts of its behavior that really irk me, but I have been so far unable to find a better replacement.

The thing that irks me the most is how it handles the use and display of folders. I have three accounts setup. When I need to open a folder and I'm in the Unified Mailbox, I have to go to the Account List, select the account, then go back to the Account List and scroll to find the folder I want. And the names are all truncated. When I want to file a message that came into one account's Inbox into a folder in another account's folders, I cannot.

A couple replacements I've tried are Readdle Spark and Outlook. Both of these handle the folders and accounts better, but have issues of their own that are worse. Readdle runs everything through their servers, including notifications on the phone. And I cannot stand how Outlook handles message conversations.

What other options do I have?

The three accounts are an IMAP and two GMails. There is a third GMail I should include too.

Lock screen Voice to text app?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 09:47 AM PDT

Being able to take pictures and videos without unlocking the phone is a wonderful feature.

Is there anything available that will allow speaking to the phone to make a written note without unlocking?

I am wasting far too much time searching through the apps.

    Thank you for any responses.

Podcasts app that autoplay the following chapters without having to manually add them to the queue list?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 09:38 AM PDT

I've probably tried all the popular options for podcasts and settled on Pocket Cast or Podcast Republic. However none of those I've managed to find a way for them to simply autoplay the following episode when I click one. They all either stop, or just pick one that i

haven't finished listening to from my downloads. I oftentimes listen to them when I do chores so i can't always go back to add a random number of chapters to the queue just so that it continues. I haven't been able to figure this out. Thanks in advance.

Best flashcard app to teach a toddler words/things/colors? Totally don't mind paying!

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 02:07 AM PDT

Would be cool if the baby could touch the animal and get a sound for example.

We got a couple books but can't really buy 50 books to cover everything and she really like this kind of stuff. I've checked a few apps on the top of the app store but they are low quality or have ads.

    thanks!!

Looking for a good simple PDF drawing app

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 08:01 AM PDT

I'm an electrical engineer for an architecture firm and a part of my job requires me to visit the construction site and do surveys.

It's much easier carrying a tablet around than physical blueprints. I was using an old (circa 2016) Microsoft Surface for this, but it's on its way out and to be honest I could never find any decent software to just draw on a PDF with. In the office, we use Bluebeam Revu, but it's expensive and this is going to be my own tablet, not a company tablet. I was using Drawboard, but it took up too much screen real estate and was too cumbersome in the field. I'm a techie, but I need something as simple as paper at a construction site.

I've been thinking about maybe a Fire HD 10 Plus are seemingly the only only Android tablets that survived the iPad apocalypse. They're dirt cheap and I only need it for work; PDF markup, maybe Microsoft Office, and that's about it.

But I've yet to find an Android app that matches the simplicity of whatever app the iPad has natively. I've never owned an apple product (not even the iPod), but I'm thinking about it if I can't find a good enough Android app to match. And of course I'll be adding the Play Store to the Fire tablet so I'm not limited to just Amazon apps. As much of a loyal Android guy I am, the only other man in town that seems to make tablets these days is Samsung and I will never buy another Samsung product again. I had miserable experiences with both the original Galaxy S (Samsung Vibrant) and the Galaxy S8. Otherwise I've been loyal to OnePlus from the OnePlus 1 up until now (currently rocking the 7 Pro)

As an added bonus, it'd be neat if I could take photos and add them to the PDF as well as I'm always taking pictures in the field too and would love to be able to associate a certain photo with a certain part of the blueprint.

    Feedme not syncing automatically

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 02:43 AM PDT

    Hi,

Since years I use feedme to read my rss feeds and it has never been able to auto sync in the background (every 3h for example) on its own. I do it manually or it does it because I open the app often.

Its been the case with my 2 last phones. First xiaomi, currently a Huawei nova 5t. I know Huawei has an app killer and I disabled it with adb command. (I also whitelisted the app in the settings just in case.)

    Any ideas or tips?

I tried many other apps but none come close to feedme imho (but open to suggestions, I use inoreader in the back and feedme on the phone)

    Thanks!

Getting my nephew a phone for Christmas - what parental control, etc. apps are out there?

    Posted: 31 Oct 2021 10:55 PM PDT

So, after querying whether my nephew (6) was old enough for a phone last year (aged 5), mostly so that he didn't have to rely on access to his mam's iPhone for Pokémon Go, I've been told I can buy him one this year.

Thanks to Tech Spurt, I've found the Nokia G50 and it seems perfect. However, I was wondering if there'd be any apps that would be best to add to childproof the phone in ways that you can't in Settings, etc.

I have already said that no bank card will be saved on it, only Google Play gift cards and that it'll have mine and my sister's biometrics saved for important things like settings, etc., until he's old enough to manage it himself.

The only app I've thought of so far is Prey, as I've used it on my phones (Android), and iPads (weird combo, I've only got an iPad as I had an iPod Touch many moons ago and didn't wanna lose the game saves). For those unaware, it's supposed to allow you to track your device's location and it works (managed to leave an iPad at uni in 2015, found it thanks to that app).

Is there anything else I should install? Are there any apps that would be good for a 6yo too for that matter? Are there any settings, bar the obvious, I should change when I buy it (I'll be setting it up prior to handing it over)?
