Posted: 03 Nov 2021 04:38 PM PDT To commemorate the launch of Intel's 12th Gen desktop Core processors we, Intel, are hosting a contest with Micro Center in which you can show us your PC building skills! It doesn't matter if you are new to PC building or you are a seasoned veteran, anyone can participate. Also, don't worry, for the challenge you don't have to physically build the gaming rig (this time) 😉 you just need to pick the parts for it. This contest is only open to USA and Canada residents – We apologize for not making it worldwide, but legalities and logistics makes it a lot more difficult to do so currently. PRIZES:
HERE IS HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
If you want to add a picture to the post of your current system, it would be SWEET! But this is NOT a requirement to enter the contest 😊 Best of luck and let the build challenge begin!! [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Nov 2021 12:19 PM PDT Hello, I am author of the A520/B550/X570 tier list from last year. Due some IRL stuff, I had to put the project on hold. Now that stuff is resolved, I am currently working on a massive update, that will make my list a complete tier list for all MOBOs, Intel and AMD. Also, many of your criticisms of my list have been fixed, such as ITX boards, and tweaks have been added. However, I was crunching to get it done by today for Z690 and like last year's Ryzen 5000 release, I was going to pull an all-nighter to finish. However, last night I discovered that most Gigabyte boards lack traditional audio ports. Since this is going to require a LOT more work, the list is likely to come out Wednesday of next week, instead of today or tomorrow, as I need to find more time to work on it. Also, it gives me time to tweak some other stuff and make sure I am as accurate as possible. Also, hopefully some real world VRM data can come out, and I can use that to make the list better. So I want to give early adopters a heads up on some things. This article here sums up the issue. TLDR: Most, but not all, gigabyte z690 boards only have 2 3.5mm audio jacks, furthermore, optical audio users cannot use the 3.5mm when running optical audio. Traditional audio jacks like this or this are gone. This is a non-standard audio setup compared to what most MOBOs have. Please double check the jacks and whether your current speaker system, headphones and DACs/external sound cards/headphone amp setup support this. Also, this is VERY easy to miss, I completely missed it until after tiering a large number of gigabyte boards, when I noticed something was slightly amiss when looking at the back panel I/O of the Z690 Aero G in comparison to it's competitor, the B550 Vision D, I then had to go back and double check every GB board, and sure enough, they mostly all have it. I am very aware there are multiple ways users can do audio, and this won't affect everyone, but it's important people who will be affected are aware of this. Furthermore, better we aware of the issue now, cause I guarantee this subreddit will be getting lots of "Help, my new Gigabyte Z690 board doesn't work with my current speakers!" posts in the next year. On that note, Z690 tend to cost about 70-100 more then comparable AMD boards for like for like parts. So 12600k may trounce a 5600x in terms of performance, but a good, do it all mobo, like a B550 Steel Legend or B550 Aorus Pro has an MSRP of 180 and regularly goes on sale for 160 or so. The cheapest MOBO, I have found so far that might fit the bill, is the $230 Gigabyte Z690 Gaming X, and I am very suspicious of it's VRMs. I really need to see real world VRM data on those VRMs, highly recommended you wait for VRM data before buying that for say a 12700k or 12900k. Many Intel mobos cost nearly 100 more for like for like features vs AMD, such as top tier audio, 2.5 GB lan chips, the ability to OC every CPU in the CPU stack, great connectivity and so on. Let me make something clear here. This isn't some Intel conspiracy or Mobo company conspiracy to gouge consumers. Intel Alder Lake CPUs are very good, very powerful CPUs, but also power hogs. The issue with this is it means they need robust VRMs, Power Mosfets and so on. The worldwide chip shortage is affecting these types of components also, not just high end nodes, making them more expensive. So a power hungry CPU like Intel's Alder Lake needs more expensive VRMs, and more of them, which means more expensive mobos. Finally, note many of the more expensive z690 mobos appear to have better internal and external I/O then the cheaper AMD Mobos. (not all though, still looking into it, more on that next week.) And for your reference, I do like what Alder Lake is doing, it's neat tech, I wish it had cheaper mobos, but that's the pandemic market we live in. Do y'all think a 3080 could last 4-5 years? Posted: 04 Nov 2021 04:40 AM PDT As the title says will it last 4-5 years in 1440p with high to ultra settings? (I've seen a lot of debates about vram so I would like your opinion) [link] [comments]
Should i go for 280mm at the top or 360 on the side? Posted: 04 Nov 2021 02:10 AM PDT
Posted: 04 Nov 2021 09:33 AM PDT I have the Ryzen 5 5600X. When checking HWMonitor, it shows 6 CPU cores and 12 CPU processors. What's the difference between the 2? Which matters more for gaming? Just asking out of curiosity, I'm not optimizing my settings or anything to minimize CPU usage lol. For reference, at most I've been at ~50% CPU usage and ~40-50C when playing any game. Does that sound about the same for everyone else? [link] [comments]
PC for simple basic usage, uni work and light gaming Posted: 04 Nov 2021 12:13 PM PDT Build Help/Ready:Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do) Yes. What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better. My uses are diverse: Normal everyday stuff like browsing the internet, watching videos etc. More specific software usage would be LaTeX, Office software, Origin Pro for data analysis and fitting, sometimes Mathematica for uni. I don't do any video editing, coding is very very rare and very light. Lastly, I sometimes play games but that´s limited to mostly older titles or less demanding games like Dota 2. If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings) 1440p, 60fps, medium/low settings. What is your budget (ballpark is okay)? 750€ In what country are you purchasing your parts? Germany Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Consider formatting your parts list. Don't ask to be spoonfed a build (read the rules!).
Provide any additional details you wish below. My 10years old PC died and I must buy a replacement. The build above is what I came up with, it should be OK for my usage in terms of speed. My hierachry of priority points is: The noise level, quality components that will last many years, power consumption and lastly speed. Since my old PC was pretty loud, I want this one to be very very silent. Do these components fulfill this condition? Additionally, I want this computer to have quality and very stable components, the PC should last me several years. I plan to use Linux on this computer, will this work well? Any kind of critique or recommendation is highly appreciated, thanks! [link] [comments]
Is 3060ti good for streaming AND gaming at the same time? Posted: 04 Nov 2021 03:34 PM PDT I have recently ordered a 3060ti and ryzen 5600x. I'm aware that the 3060ti is exceptional for mediocre gaming at 1080p/1440p but I'm not sure if I'll be able to stream with it at the same time while playing. Does anyone with experience with 3060ti (and ryzen 5600x if possible) know? [link] [comments]
1500$ dollar budget for gaming PC, no prior knowledge, please help !!! Posted: 04 Nov 2021 03:14 AM PDT After months of working my ass off i finally have enough money to build my PC (mainly for gaming) and i heard this is a good place to ask so i hope you guys can help me as much as you can. Looking towards buying in about 40 hours from now so i hope this post sees the light of day before it's too late So i got a 1500$ budget and literally building from scratch with no prior knowledge... Please help(The budget also includes the mouse +keyboard cuz i am buying from scratch) Here are some of the specs that i have decided on: - 256 SSD, 1TB HDD. - 16 GB of Ram. - 24 inch monitor at 144 hz (i heard it's better than 60 for some effects on the eye) and resolution is 1920 x 1080. That's literally what i got so far after asking some of my friends Not planning on saving power but moreso on performance. Posted: 04 Nov 2021 12:07 AM PDT What parts can I get to build a pc that doesn't disperse dust everywhere? Also, I've heard of different passive cpu coolers and cases that eliminate fans which would help with my problem, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to have good gaming performance. Will a fan-less pc be the right option for gaming, and what can I do to build a pc which won't spray dust everywhere? [link] [comments]
question about second monitors Posted: 04 Nov 2021 03:57 PM PDT hi all! i spend a good amount of time at my pc because i am taking classes online and spend probably too much time gaming. i was wondering if it would be worth to get a second monitor and what you guys would say all the pros/possible cons of having a second monitor would be. thanks much :) [link] [comments]
Is spending extra for higher power stage necessary? Posted: 04 Nov 2021 03:13 PM PDT I have an i5-12600K and I'm thinking of getting the Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Elite AX DDR4 (£229.99), however I'm not sure whether it is worth dishing out another £60 for the Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Pro DDR4 instead (£289.98). The difference that has confused me is the power stages. The Aorus Elite has claimed 70A power stage, the Pro had 90A.. this is pretty much the only difference between the two does it make it worth getting the latter or should I settle with the cheaper 70A option. Thank you for any help [link] [comments]

Active speakers 'buzzing' while GPU under load Posted: 04 Nov 2021 02:34 PM PDT Hey guys! I recently purchased (WFH desk allowance!) an Audient ID4 audio interface and 2 Yamaha HS-7 speakers. Love the sound that come out of these, they're a wonderful addition to my setup. However, when my GPU is under load (i.e. load up a game, watch a YT Video), the speakers 'buzz'. Every change in scene is noticable, and the buzzing changes (I presume, changing of GPU load). Now, my board (MSI Tomahawk B450 MAX) has a single USB-C port, which I've used so far, the Audient comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable to connect to the PC; so my Audient is plugged into my mobo, and not the GPU. I have also tried other USB ports (mobo/case/USB Hub) and none of them eliminate the issue. I've googled around, but some of the more common solves (software related) have all yielded nothing. What could this problem be, and more importantly - what can I do to fix it? Thanks for your time! [link] [comments]
My son and I first build. GPU question Posted: 04 Nov 2021 12:56 PM PDT My son wants to build a gaming pc with me. It will be our first build i can get a asus rx 570 4 gb GPU for £100 I'm thinking while the market is so overpriced right now for GPUs and hard to get hold of will this do for now while he saves for a 3060. Which overpriced GPU should I get for Ryzen 5 5600x? Posted: 03 Nov 2021 10:48 PM PDT I am wanting to get a GPU to pair with my Ryzen 5600x. Am looking at 3060... don't think I need a Ti and I am on a budget... Please help me pick or recommend for me :") [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Nov 2021 04:22 PM PDT just bought my parts for my next build. TL;DR version is the title. Read on for details (might be a bit verbose): Old PC is 100 months old, 3rd Gen i7 bottlenecking my EVGA RTX 2080 XC Ultra, so it was long overdue. It Will be mostly Autodesk Revit transitioning to Blender for 3d work, then Image, Video, and Audio production as work and as a hobby. Plus some light gaming (newborn at home has cut gaming time significantly).
This will all go inside a (also new) Lian Li Lancool 215, accompanying my trusty Corsair AX860 and the aforementioned 2080. So, my question is: As the system is dual-channel (like every consumer computer currently available), is there a specific way to populate DIMM Slots? For example:
Notice that all the DIMMS, kit or otherwise, consist of 16Gb 3600Mhz CL16 units of the KF436C16RB1A SKU, so they might as well (maybe) be considered identical items and then I'll call it a day. Just got... curious. What are your thoughts on that matter, folks? [link] [comments]
ASUS Z690 Mobo -- will it support this DDR5 RAM model? Posted: 04 Nov 2021 04:07 PM PDT I am going to be using the ASUS PRIME Z690-P (ddr5) motherboard, which says it'll support the following RAM types, from the user manual: 4 x DIMM, Max. 128GB, DDR5 6000(OC)/ 5800(OC)/ 5600(OC)/ 5400(OC)/ 5200(OC)/ 5000(OC)/ 4800 Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory\* I want to use this RAM, which says it is both non-ECC and un-buffered, and 4800 Mhz: Crucial 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR5 SDRAM DDR5 4800 (PC5 38400) Desktop Memory Model CT2K8G48C40U5 Unfortunately, when I go to the QVL for this ASUS motherboard and look at the list of supported Crucial sticks, it only shows support for the single 1x stick models in the 8, 16, and 32 GB varieties, but none of the 2x stick varieties. For other manufacturers, it specifically lists out the 2x8, 2x16, and 2x32 model numbers, but not for the Crucial ones. Thus, specifically CT2K8G48C40U5 from above is missing from the list, even though the nearly identical 1x16GB and 1x8GB stick model numbers are listed here. Picture below of the Crucial models it claims it'll support: Imgur: The magic of the Internet Is there any chance it'll still support the 2x8 GB stick model I purchased, or should I cancel the order now? Maybe there's a chance the 2x stick varieties just weren't added to the list yet? [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Nov 2021 03:56 PM PDT I am looking to build my first computer. I currently have a 960 in my PC. I am unsure if I should get a 5600x and use the 960, or if I should get a 5600g and keep the 960 for a secondary PC. Any info would be helpful. 650W PSU for Gigabyte RTX 3080 Waterforce OC and Ryzen 5 5600x? Posted: 04 Nov 2021 03:52 PM PDT Hello! I finally scored an RTX 3080 via the Newegg shuffle, but had originally planned to purchase a RTX 3070 for a mini ITX build. I had already purchased the PSU for the build, an EVGA SuperNOVA GM 650 W 80+ Gold Certified SFX, but upon doing further research I saw the recommended PSU is 750W. Will this cause any issues using a 650W PSU in this system? Does anyone have experience using a 650W Gold PSU with a RTX 3080? Posted: 04 Nov 2021 03:45 PM PDT I have a 9310 XPS 13 Windows 11 stock. I have been customizing it for days, but I cannot seem to get two things fixed.
(a) looking for the power management tab under device manager (there is no such tab, nor is their a "change setting botton). (b) updating the mouse driver on Delll's website. There is no driver labeled bluetooth on their website, just the "Intel HID Event Filter Driver" which does nothing. (c) updating the drvier via Logitech website (it's a bluetoth MX S2). It wouldn't even let me install anything via that .exe.
Any help would be so so appreciated. Thank you for anyone who read this post. [link] [comments]

How long will stuff remain relevant? Posted: 04 Nov 2021 11:47 AM PDT Hi guys. Sorry for the vague title, just wondering if I should begin planning my next build. How much longer will my current build "last"? Ive got a mobo allowing 4 sticks of ddr4 at 2666mhz and 8th/9th gen intel. 1660ti 6gb, 2x16gb of ddr4 ram at 2666 mhz, 500gb nvme ssd, and a 650w psu. Will any of this keep up? Can I get away with upgrading components, or should I start thinking about starting from scratch again? I'm not too worried about competetive AAA shooters in ultra 4k at 99999 FPS or whatever, but I would like to be able to keep up with single player stuff and have a decent experience? Thanks! Merging two systems - which components should I keep and which should I sell? Posted: 04 Nov 2021 03:27 PM PDT Hi everyone We currently have two PC's in the household, but only need one for gaming and video editing. That's why I'm contemplating on which parts to keep to build the PC we want to keep and which parts to sell. Here are the two builds: Build 1:
Build 2:
I intend to keep the RX 6900 XT and the G.Skill Trident Z Neo RAM but for pretty much all other components I am undecided on which ones to keep and which to sell. Posted: 04 Nov 2021 03:27 PM PDT As the title states I'm currently trying to sell some old pc parts to clear some extra space, and any money made will go towards upgrades and what not. My main pc is in a pretty decent spot for what I need it to do, so I'm in no rush. The parts I'm selling are just short of being a full build, so my question is, would I be better off sourcing some second hand parts, to make it a full system (fairly low end) and selling as a whole, or sell them individually? For reference I have a case, 6 fans, cpu, mobo, ram, gpu, but no psu or drives to run it off. [link] [comments] |
