Are there any Linux distros that comes with android apps support out of the box? Posted: 04 Nov 2021 07:44 AM PDT I tried installing anbox in multiple different distros and have failed everywhere using multiple guides. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Nov 2021 06:37 AM PDT So I'm running kubuntu 21.10, I just installed it 2 days ago and now this is happening to me... And I really don't know how to fix that... It's just happened to me somehow I didn't messed up something in the settings or in the sys config files... I didn't touched it at all.. Okay, so what I have tried so far is: Deleting the /etc/resolv.conf and recreating it again and I typed in, nameserver 8.8.8.8. Also, after that I restart the service through that command: sudo systemctl restart systemd-resolved.service and checked it's status and it is running completely fine. What else should I do? what's the best video editing program for linux? Posted: 04 Nov 2021 12:57 PM PDT for you personally, or something you would recommend, I used davinci resolve, but didn't have a good experience as on windows 10, is there anything that's light weight, fast, and works with mp4s or mov videos. thank you [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Nov 2021 08:52 AM PDT This also happens in windows disk manager, i can't choose the whole free space for one partition. I'm currently using mini tool to wipe the free space but i don't think it will make a difference. I was using the 98 GB before as a btrfs root partion for kubuntu if this info would help. Where should I start if I want to build my own OS and Apps? Posted: 04 Nov 2021 09:05 AM PDT A few years ago I wrote my first novel (its a children novel) After spending a lot of time thinking about it I want to expand the franchiese to include more then just the novel, I want to create a lot more. After talking it over with my family we decided we are going to do this in stages, Stage 1: Finish the Novel Main Series Stage 2: Create a Basic Website to promote the Series Stage 3: Create an OS that has many themes from the Series along with links to places to buy the books built in along with infromational apps and a few game apps Stage 4: Create Tangable Merchindice Stage 5: Create a TV Pilot/Movie Script Stage 6: Still working out the details For Stage 3 I went back to collage and took a basic computer class But the Teacher skipped over codding in the entire class in fact the class was so basic I could have taught the class and I have a 4th to 5th grade learning level so things have to be taught to me at a slower rate or I have to be showed how to do it hands on a few times to pick up on it. Turns out the collage will not let me take the classes I need to take to do Stage 3. Even for Stage 2 the Web Desgining class only got 4 Students so the Teacher refused to teach it so I went and made a very very basic Wiki to promote the Series. But I have no idea were the best place to start to learning to make my own OS and Apps with out any codeing experances, Any Help would be greatful I was told Linux would be the best to use for my OS as its free and its open sources [link] [comments] |

Good methods to compress large amount of files? Posted: 04 Nov 2021 10:06 AM PDT Hi. I'm planning to copy large amount of files and folders (hundreds of thousands of files, folders with up to 1 Tb of data) between several external hard drives and I would like to try to compress some of them, to speed up the process. I know I can tar many files in a single one, that would be faster to copy, to untar in destination. I've read about this, although I haven't tried it yet. But I would like to know if there's the possibility of compressing them to a much lower size, without the risk of losing all the information if in future I want to decompress. I mainly ask for Linux but any compressing system in Windows will be also valid (I might have to do the copy with Windows, since in Linux it gets stuck at 2 MB/s after few minutes for whatever USB external drive I use and could take me weeks instead of hours). I mainly know tar in Linux, and then 7z, zip and rar in both OS, but I don't know which might be better for my case. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
What should I be testing when trying a new distro? Posted: 04 Nov 2021 09:58 AM PDT I've been using ZorinOS for a few months now and recently I decided to move to another distro. Not because Zorin is bad (I've used it for months, after all), but because I wanted a new challenge). I know you can easily run a distro on a virtual machine or on a bootable USB stick, but I want to be sure I am picking a distro that fits all my needs and overall works. So that brings the question in the title: what things (specially things often overlooked) should I be testing? I am considering switching to Manjaro, by the way. [link] [comments] |
PlayOnLinux not working with 64 bit apps Posted: 04 Nov 2021 09:56 AM PDT First, I'm sorry if this is the wrong subreddit for this. When I try to create a 64 bit virtual drive on PlayOnLinux, it says wine crashed ("Error in POL_Wine Wine seems to have crashed") and creates a 32 bit one, but neither 32 bit or 64 bit apps work. Have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling POL, and nothing. 32 bit virtual-drives work as intended. [link] [comments] |
HD Full, Ubuntu Will Not Let Me Delete Old Kernel Headers [Incompetent Developers] Posted: 04 Nov 2021 02:31 PM PDT Never mind that the geniuses that develop Linux don't even notify you that your mysterious hard drive fill-ups are from it not deleting old kernel headers. Never mind that you have to learn that the hard way and by spending hours researching and asking online. Never mind that you have to spend hours trying to figure out what's causing it and how to remedy it. Never mind that every ridiculously complex command to delete them that you have to find on old forums don't work anymore. Never mind that even Autoremove won't delete them anymore and instead tells you there's "0 to remove" while there are over a dozen old ones still listed. Never mind that my hard drive has 83 mb of space left on it after Ubuntu's latest update that was stated to take 100 mb but actually took up 400 mb and broke my computer half way through the update. Never mind that Linux developers couldn't just include a "Do you want to delete old kernel headers to free up space?" in a simple GUI panel with a "Yes" or "No" clickable option next to it in every update. Never mind the 100 other things that are broken, missing, and incompetently designed on every Linux distro. Just tell me how to delete all old kernel headers in Ubuntu while keeping the current one so I can download a Windows ISO and finally get rid of this abortion of an OS. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Linux on Ideapad 330-15AST (AMD A9 chip + 4GB RAM): Compatibility? Posted: 04 Nov 2021 08:10 AM PDT Hey guys. So, my mum uses an Ideapad 330-15AST for checking emails and a little bit of work on spreadsheets (she uses Excel). The machine currently runs Windows 10 Home, and I can see how painfully slow it is, often taking minutes to open chrome tabs and open gmail. I want to make her life a little easier by installing a linux distro to make her experience using the laptop less painful and a little faster while still having a decent visual and user experience, and not being too much of a change/shock to her. These are the main things she does on the laptop:
Essential hardware compatibility:
I would really like to hook her up with Linux Mint Cinnamon, cause it looks amazing, and is really simple and easy to use out of the box, and she won't have any problem switching to it from Windows. I think it also has some decent trackpad gesture support. On top of that, I am thinking of replacing LibreOffice with ONLYOFFICE or WPS Office due to the visual and functional compatibility/similarity with MS Office. Does anyone have any experience with similar hardware? Personally I am not technically incompetent so I can do some manual driver installation and such from the terminal, as long as it's just a one time thing after install. I guess the main question is do you know or can you point me to a resource that will tell me if LinuxMint cinnamon will work with that hardware stack, and if not, what alternatives do I have that closely meet the above requirements? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Can I boot into both Compiz and Metacity at the same time? 18.04 Posted: 04 Nov 2021 01:56 PM PDT First off, I am using gnome-flashback and I neeeed my spinancubez! I have the Compiz plugins set up exactly how I like them and it increases my work flow. However I've been running into issues with Compiz lately. Steam engine runs slower and glitches in Compiz (the trigger gets stuck and/or won't fire) and when remoting with nomachine, the window glitches horribly. To use Metacity however, I have to log off my desktop environment and choose Metacity. I would very much like to run a separate session CTRL-ALT-F2 style if at all possible. How can I do this? My trackpad is too sensitive making my laptop useless. Posted: 04 Nov 2021 01:55 PM PDT I use manjaro with kde plasma, it's a dell inspiron 5575 with amd ryzen 5 2500u with 8 gigs of ram and vega 8 graphics. I switched 2 weeks ago from windows and it worked fine until now. Today i turned my laptop on and simple scrolling on the home page would select programs. My laptop is a touchscreen but it doesn't work very well on Linux, it's isn't disabled because idk how. I didn't some research and came across the sudo libinput command but it's didn't work. I tried to switch from Windows 10 Education to Linux Mint and my screen is stuck, how do I fix it? Posted: 04 Nov 2021 09:28 AM PDT Hello everyone. I wanted to switch my operating system in my old High school laptop (Hp ProBook x360 G1 4gb ram EE) from Windows 10 Education to Linux Mint with this Guide, I have done all the tasks and restart it but it would still start with Windows 10, I tried that a couple of times but then I tried to restart it from the flash drive itself and it turned on on Mint but than when I tried to Install it there would be an error so I tried a couple of time and then removed the flash drive, now when I turn the power on it looks like that so I have a few questions

How do I find and install additional drivers for my Linux PC? Posted: 04 Nov 2021 06:39 AM PDT So, I recently installed Linux Fedora LXQt on my RCA Cambio (model W101 V2). The tablet and operating system work OK, but the touch screen doesn't seem to be working, the screen won't auto-rotate, and the touch screen keyboard is missing. I've asked about these issues before and haven't gotten much input on how to fix them. The only solution that makes sense to me currently is that Fedora LXQt doesn't have the right drivers. However, I don't know how to find drivers for Linux, nor do I know how to install them. [link] [comments] |

Screen goes black on ubuntu, Laptop is still running. Posted: 04 Nov 2021 10:52 AM PDT Hey everyone. I have had this problem starting this week, where my laptop's screen will turn black all of a sudden, but the laptop remains on. This can happen multiple times a day and at random times. If i press the "turn screen off" button, the screen goes completely black, so it shows that it is working but doesn't show anything. Has anyone had that happen to him/her? If so did you find a solution? Would appreciate any help. Laptop is a Lenovo Yoga 500 14", running the latest version of ubuntu. I tried looking at the system logs but I am not exactly sure what to look for. After a forced restart using the power button the screen turns on normally, until it happens again. I have disabled all power settings that might dim the brightness of the screen and noticed that this happens both if the laptop is charging and if it's on battery. Even if you haven't had this happen to you but you have ideas regarding how to troubleshoot it and understand what is wrong(might be a hardware problem), I would really appreciated your help, because if I don't find a fix i will have to buy another laptop, and other than that the laptop runs very smoothly. Thank you in advance. [link] [comments] |
Anyone to force apps to use my wm window decorations? Posted: 04 Nov 2021 10:40 AM PDT Teams and Itch apps have their own window decoration and it looks really out of place from my xmonad setup. I've searched in the configs and haven't found an option to use system window decoration (like in brave). Is there any way to force these apps to use the window decoration i want. Edit: Title was supposed to be "Any way to force apps to use my wm window decorations?", but apparently my brain isnt working today [link] [comments] |
