Would like opinions on asus laptops Posted: 09 Nov 2021 11:20 AM PST Hello, I have been in the market for a new laptop and was considering getting the ASUS VivoBook 15 S513, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with these laptops or has any other suggestions? I would use it mainly for work / school. I am a cybersecurity student and run programs like VirtualBox, FTK Imager, Autopsy, Winhex, Packet tracer, etc. [link] [comments]

Posted: 09 Nov 2021 01:49 PM PST Which I should choose: - HUAWEI MateBook D 14 - Intel Core i3-10110U/8GB/256GB SSD (new) - Lenovo Thinkpad T480 14 " Intel Core i5-8350U 16 GB / 256 GB (used) So to precise the question, it's better to buy i3 10gen (8gb ram) or i5 but 8gen (16gb ram) IMO Lenovo is better deal however it's still some money so I'd like to be sure. Of course if you have any other suggestions on "what to buy" I'm listening. Both are ~$550. [link] [comments]

Should I keep it? Acer Swift 3 SF314-511-51A3 ≈ 430$ Posted: 09 Nov 2021 12:42 PM PST I bought this laptop with a couple of extra discounts with my 10% Walmart associate discount and a 5% cashback bonus from my credit card. All together, everything brought the laptop down to ≈430usd before tax. Cheap, right? Well, coming from a Lenovo T430 with a 9 cell battery that was working just fine for me, I have been hesitant to spend more money than I have to given my tight budget as a student. My Lenovo recently burned through 2 ssds in the last 2 months (reasons unknown???) so it was looking to be about time to look for something new. My lats are thick af from hauling that Lenovo around, but I think I'll much rather prefer having something more portable to carry around. The Acer Swift 3 Walmart was selling was marketed as having Intel EVO certification which carries its value in large part from stringent battery requirements. Though, come to find out, this Acer straight up does not have Evo like literally every other 2021 Acer Swift 3 and was marketed incorrectly. Acer even got the spec wrong on their own website with this specific models specifications. The Walmart version has a 48wh battery vs a 56wh battery in other models. Battery life is super important for me, but it seems like I would have to spend over $300 more to get what I want (Dell XPS, HP Envy, etc). Besides the battery, I have really enjoyed using this laptop so far. I get about 6-7 hours with normal use with 70% brightness using Microsoft Edge for better energy efficiency. The build quality is nice and it looks like it will last many years. Though, in doing my research, I was looking at the 56wh battery that would better suite my needs. IdeaPad 5 vs ThinkPad E15 Gen3 Posted: 09 Nov 2021 11:01 AM PST Both will have the same CPU/Ram/SSD. IdeaPad -$715 ThinkPad-$999 Is it worth an extra $285 for the ThinkPad? I understand it has a better build quality and keyboard, but assuming I have the laptop plugged in and attached to a monitor for 80% of the time, is it really going to last that much longer? I can't seem to find much info regarding the build quality of the internals (as opposed to the plastic vs metal housing). The ThinkPad is entering out of budget, but I'm worried that the IdeaPad will be a bad investment and may cost me more money in the long run. Any considerations will be a huge help. Is using an old HDD on a new laptop good? Posted: 09 Nov 2021 10:36 AM PST Hey. About 1/2 year ago I got a new laptop. It currently only has a 256 gb NVMe SSD, which although is enough for me, I would still like a bit more storage. I recently found out that my laptop has some empty space inside it for a second 2.5'' SSD/HDD. Is it a good idea to swap my 512 GB, 5200 RPM HDD, from my old, 8 year-old laptop (that I've been using before I got this one)? It has a lot of my old files that I haven't transfered to this new laptop, and I could use it as a D drive, so it would be pretty convinient for me. My old laptop is dead, but I'm pretty sure the HDD itself is still alive. I know that it's a slow hard disk, but that doesn't really bother me. Am I going to face issues in the future, such as my hard drive failing if I do this? I want to make sure before I do anything. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
Searching for 2 in 1 Laptop with Stylus Support Posted: 09 Nov 2021 10:32 AM PST Firstly I would like to thank anyone willing to help me, as the plurality of information out there is overwhelming to say the least. Anyway, I am a student, and up until now I have been using the Surface Go, which serves me well. I only have three requirements: Stylus support (something very sensitive, as I write cursive), long battery life (I'm always on the move, sometimes more than 15hr), and the screen size be at least 13.5". When doing my own research, most websites omit older models, or many brands are not included. CPU, GPU, Resolution, and stuff like that don't really matter to me. Do you guys have any suggestions? Posted: 09 Nov 2021 10:28 AM PST I recently got the 2021 LG Gram 17" with the 1165G7 and 16gb RAM. Just out of curiosity I ran Cinebench R23, and the scores seem unusually low. Plugged in with power on performance, fans on performance/100%, and no other programs open, it's multicore was 4228. In reviews I've looked at, they were all showing scores of 4800-5900. It immediately hits 90C and drops to 2.5-2.6 ghz throughout the test. Does anyone have a similar experience? Or ideas of what could be causing the low performance? Thanks [link] [comments]
Posted: 09 Nov 2021 10:26 AM PST I'm looking at either getting a new laptop or using my existing touch-screen laptop, and I like the idea of being able to do things with a Microsoft Ink sort of interface occasionally (drawing on Teams meeting whiteboards, rough sketches in OneNote, etc.). Compatibility with Microsoft apps is important for this. My problem is that with all of the other requirements I'm trying to lump in to my laptop selection (need to run some VMs, develop, game occasionally, need USB-C charging, etc. etc.) there's virtually nothing in my price range that come with a styus / MPP support, so I'm wondering if there's a cheaper way to be able to draw occasionally on a regular touch screen similar to how styluses work on Surface / x360 / Flip type laptops..? I'm hoping that there's an easy way to turn a regular touch screen laptop into an ink device that's stylus capable, or a way to use my android phone and stylus as a windows tablet over bluetooth, or something else doable. I'd prefer not to have to lug around a small Wacom just for the couple times a month I might need to draw, but I'm not sure what my other options are for doing this on a regular touch-screen laptop, never used any of the "smart" stylus pens to know if they enable this sort of thing, etc... Any ideas ..? [link] [comments]
Acer Triton 300 SE rtx 3050 ti review? Posted: 09 Nov 2021 10:11 AM PST I've noticed how reviews for the 3060 model were kinda mixed for this laptop, but I was wondering if it'd be worth the cost savings to spring for the 3050ti equipped model. I cross shopping this with a Acer Swift X with a 3050ti, so if anyone actually has a 300 SE with the 3060, are there any issues with the laptop that could be mitigated with the 3050ti? Is it really more powerful/daily-able than the Acer swift x? Idk how a i7-11375H (4-core) + RTX 3050TI A some wattage much greater than 35W versus a R7-5700u + RTX 3050TI @ 35W would fair in a comparison, so any insight on that would be appreciated in terms of performance over time. If y'all have any thoughts on the 3050ti 300 se or Swift X from owning it, please let me know. The most demanding game I want to play is control at 1080p low 60fps. [link] [comments]
