In need of a good laptop under 1500$ Posted: 12 Nov 2021 12:29 AM PST Hello everyone, My friend want to buy a new laptop under 1500$. He will use it mainly for programming. He never plays games so gpu is not important. We are from Serbia but you can suggest anything since it can be imported. I was thinking of something with better cpu, something on the lines of i7 10-11 gen or ryzen 4-5 gen. It is imperative that it has 16 gigs of ram. Portsbility is very important thing, so no 17", but also since he would look at a lot of codes I think that 13" is a bit too small, so 14 or 15". Good cooling would also be nice. Resolution is not that important but the more the better. Touch screen also not important. Batery life would be good but again not priority. A lot of ports, especially USB would also be very good. Basicly anything with powerfull processor and best screen for that money. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 12 Nov 2021 03:40 AM PST Hey everyone! I'm looking for a good bang for your buck laptop, preferably under 1400 USD. I basically just want to be able to program in MATLAB smoothly (lots of visual representation of graphs etc) and I also watch a lot of YouTube, Netflix and Twitch. I have an android, so I dont really want a MacBook. What are your recommendations? [link] [comments] |
HP Pavilion Gaming 15 or a Prebuilt? Posted: 12 Nov 2021 06:36 AM PST Hi, I don't use Reddit too often nor do I post so I'm not sure which subreddit to put this on. Basically, I'm on a tight budget. Both products are $800 but I can't tell which one is better. Before I ever do anything, I search for reviews first that will help me ensure my choice but there is no review on this new prebuilt which left me indecisive. Could anyone help me decide which one would be more better for gaming or possibly also multitasking? Thanks. Laptop for drawing on Clip Studio Paint Posted: 12 Nov 2021 06:27 AM PST Hi, my laptop recently "died" and can't be fixed. I was meaning to get a new one anyway, so, here I am. Since I draw on Clip Studio Paint, I am looking to get one compatible with that program and that will last as long as possible. It needs to meet these requirements: Intel and AMD CPUs with SSE2 support GPU with support for OpenGL 2.1 At least 32GB memory (RAM) At least 1TB SSD Wintab-compatible stylus with pen pressure sensitivity that support Windows Ink Platform (I already have a Microsoft Surface Pen, but I guess that won't be compatible with most laptops I could buy) My budget is around $2000. Any tips? [link] [comments] |
Lenovo Thinkbook 14 vs. M1 MacBook Air vs. …? Posted: 12 Nov 2021 06:24 AM PST I'm deciding between these options (I'm in Taiwan): -Lenovo Thinkbook 14 Gen 2 w/ i5-1135G7, 16Gb DDR4, 512GB NVME SSD, Nvidia MX450, FHD 1080p display (250 nits), 60Wh battery , Link -Lenovo Thinkbook 14p Gen 2 w/ Ryzen 7 5800H, 16gb DDR4, 1Tb NVME SSD, (No dedicated gpu), 2.2k display (100% SRGB & 300 nits), 60Wh battery , link -M1 MacBook Air I'll be using the student discount. I think I can only "afford" the base model as I think shelling out so much for an upgrade is quite unreasonable. I'm in college and about to start graduate school in quant finance/economics/data science. As of right now, I use stata/r/python but who knows what I'll use in the future. I think I prioritize sturdiness, reliability, and battery life (better than the six hours I get now). There's also the option of waiting for the new MacBook Air next year but it looks like it won't be too dissimilar from the current one (in the major ways). Any advice would be appreciated. I really like the MacBook Pro 14inch but I never owned MacBook. I don't know how programming with Python, Java and JavaScript would work with it. Also concerned about Windows Office Suite and One Drive functionality on it. Thank you. [link] [comments] |

Durable Linux-friendly uni & programming laptop, max €1500, Italy Posted: 12 Nov 2021 05:00 AM PST LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
€1500 is my total budget in Italy, but I'd appreciate staying lower.
Yes, but not so confident. I'm planning to keep the laptop for several years and it would be comforting to be able to return it if anything's off and have a solid warranty. New is strongly preferred, but I also consider used or better yet refurbished.
Great build quality, future-proof performance (AMD Ryzen lineup preferred, indifferent for H CPUs), good battery life, repairable and serviceable
Somewhat. I'm currently using a Dell Inspiron 5567 (Height 23.30 mm (0.92 in) Width 390 mm (15.35 in) Depth 259 mm (10.20 in) Weight 2.36 kg (5.20 lb)) and it's good enough. I wouldn't want anything thicker or heavier, though. Probably something lighter would be appreciated since my computer basically lives in my backpack.
15.6" or bigger. I'd really like it to be bright, since I use my laptop on the go a lot.
No CAD, no video editing, some light gaming. Mostly programming. Might want to use virtual machines concurrently with other heavy-ish programs sometimes. Jetbrains IDEs, MATLAB, Godot, some light Blender (maybe), various standalone compilers etc; as for gaming indie stuff, at most something like Rocket League or at the heaviest VRChat in desktop mode at low settings. Keep in mind I don't game daily or even weekly though. I'm upgrading from an inspiron 5567 configured with Intel i5-7200U, 16GB 2400MHz (effective 2133MHz) dual-channel DDR4 SODIMM RAM and 500GB Samsung Evo 860 SSD - I'd like performance to be a big step up from this (else it's half not worth upgrading at all)
Good keyboard is really appreciated, I type a lot between for uni, programming and even personal notes / other writing. Plenty of bonus points if it's an ANSI US keyboard buyable in Italy. Build quality has to be good and durable.
Good Linux support is a requirement. Intel WLAN is preferred but can be upgraded down the line. I'm planning to set up a dual-boot system, so 2 SSD slots are appreciated. I would not go lower than 512 GB for storage. No soldered storage for any reason. Repairability and serviceability is really appreciated, soldered parts are a minus but unless it's an SSD, I can probably live with it. [link] [comments] |
Looking for a general use laptop Posted: 12 Nov 2021 04:58 AM PST Hi, I'm looking for a laptop that is general use. I would prefer a laptop that can run low stress games like minecraft. I'm mainly gonna use it to talk to friends on discord and sometimes play games. But it's not gonna be primarily used for gaming. My price range is around 500$ but something less expensive would be appreciated. My expectations aren't high. But I'm not tech savvy or anything and don't know what to buy. Thanks I'm advance [link] [comments] |

Laptops similar to Lenovo T430 Posted: 11 Nov 2021 09:28 PM PST T430 is one of the best laptop I have used so far and it's so strong and sturdy. I want to buy a new laptop but with similar built and with modern upgrades I guess, so which laptops are the closest to t430? My budget is pretty low, under 800 USD (1k CAD). I know I could upgrade t430 too, but I have been wanting a new laptop for a while now, and it'd be great if it could do a little bit of everything (mostly coding or unity or video editing and stuff) [link] [comments] |

What is a good laptop for college? Posted: 11 Nov 2021 10:47 PM PST I was planning to get the macbook air but if there's something better for the price that'd be great. Would also like to be able to run a little bit of games here and there My budget is $1000 [link] [comments] |
Do you think this is a good deal for Dell G15? And dell xps vs macbook air? Posted: 11 Nov 2021 01:02 PM PST So I found this deal online, I am not too sure if this price is a good deal for this laptop or not? Does anybody have any ideas on its build quality and overall specs? Is it worth the money? can it run xbox games, rdr2, etc. smoothly? Secondly, I was searching for a good laptop this black friday. My priorities are as follows: build quality >> hardware specs > anything else; Note: having the ability to run games such as cyberpunk, RDR, Xbox games, etc. is an added bonus but not a deal breaker. Since build quality and the laptop not failing on me is a major point for me I was looking primarily at Dell and Mac. Dell XPS 13 - https://www.dell.com/en-ca/shop/dell-laptops/xps-13-laptop/spd/xps-13-9305-laptop/nxps139305_ph15e Apple MacBook Air - https://www.apple.com/ca/shop/buy-mac/macbook-air (the 512gb version btw) The one advantage that apple brings is their superior build quality, whereas their main drawback is since i'm not heavily invested in the mac ecosystem, I will need to start buying adapters to connect to my monitor and start buying more into their ecosystem (plus the fact that you can't play games on mac). Tl;dr - could someone take a look at the above mentioned 3 laptops (G15, XPS, Air) and give me their opinion on which one seems the best. Also it seems that G15 has much better specs than XPS yet a lower price, does the G15 line have a lower build quality, can it not support games decently? [link] [comments] |

HP Envy 14, Lenovo Ideapad 7i Pro, Hp Aero 13 Posted: 11 Nov 2021 10:10 PM PST hey you guys! I need your advice regarding buying a laptop this holiday season. first thing I wanna know is that should I buy laptop in going sneakpeak deals from hp, dell, lenovo etc or should wait for BF deals (in terms of discount) as I am first time purchasing online. Second I wanna know is that I am confused between 3 ultrabooks. 1. HP Envy 14 (Core i5 1135G7 with 1650 with 1080p 400nits screen) SKU: 14t-eb000 touch optional 2. HP Envy 14 (Core i5 11320H with 2.2K screen but 300nits) SKU: 14t-eb100 3. Lenovo ideapad 7i pro (Core i5 11300H with 2.8k 90Hz 400nits) SKU: 82QT0001US I don't do heavy lifting. Need just for office work and casual gaming like league of legends. As far as CPU is concerned 11320H is overclocked version of 1135G7 with higher boost clocks but on graphics side it has same 96 EU same as Core i7 1165G7. https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/compare.html?productIds=196656,208658,217183,208662 but i'm worried about 2.2k display as i cant find any review on the internet about it. If anybody has this unit please guide about its screen. is it glossy as most touch screens are or matt. glossy screen with 300nits is not good. lenovo ideapad 7i pro is a bit costly but has higher 90Hz refresh rate which can give me overall smooth experience. in a parallel universe a version of me is tilting towards Pavilion Aero 13 13z-be000. As I can save some money (100-150$) $300 in case of lenovo and wait for intel alder lake mobile cpuz to come and see if they are any better in mobile market or not and decide after that. please guide regarding each factor i mentioned above. if you are using any other ultrabook (700-950$) range, please suggest. I want good 16:10 screen ~100%sRGB, good battery life. [link] [comments] |
