[DEV] My new app automatically skips ads in Instagram in those feeds that have snap scrolling

    Posted: 11 Nov 2021 05:48 AM PST

    Hello r/AndroidApps,

a recent change in the Instagram app has been bothering many: snap scrolling. Suddenly, a feed's posts will automatically snap to the top of the screen while scrolling. This means that when an ad appears, it will always come fully into view. Worse still, you always need to do a second swipe to get it out of view.

My new app "Instant Ad Skip" is meant to help you out here. Once an ad has snapped into view, it will be automatically swiped away at once. No more having to do a second swipe! The app will skip sponsored posts, paid partnership posts, and posts from shops (it doesn't yet skip ads in stories).

The app is available in the Play Store for $0.99. (As with any paid app, you have 48 hours to check it out - if you decide it's not for you, just hit the Refund button in the app's Play Store listing.)

Note: The app requires Android 9 Pie. It uses Accessibility Services to retrieve information from the Instagram app. You need to grant a permission for this once when first using the app.

I hope you find this useful!

Which apps block ads on apps?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2021 07:15 AM PST

ost of the adblocker apps I download only block browser ads. Like AdblockPlus and other apps. I'm looking for an app that blocks ads on OTHER apps; for example, I really like Alto's Odyssey but there are SO MANY ads. Is there an app like that?

Moon reader pro is crashing on some documents (pdf) that it used to handle fine.

    Posted: 11 Nov 2021 12:31 PM PST

Not sure what's happened. These same files opened fine before and other documents still open fine. I've reinstalled moon reader and get the same issues. Might be related to latest Android version maybe?

Is there an app (widget) that will put a 1x1 icon of a daily task on my home screen, that I can tap each day to mark as completed?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2021 07:36 AM PST

TickTick seems the closest where it will create a 1x1 widget with a notification mark if the task is not yet completed, however the widget sizing is kinda off and moves around all my other icons. You also have to tap the icon to open the app and then mark the task as complete, rather than just tapping the widget to mark as complete.

Basically I just want to remind myself to take a multivitamin each day, and then quickly be able to glance at my home screen and see if I've done it yes or no.

I'm sure something like this exists and if you know of it/use it, I'd appreciate a point in the right direction. Thanks!

    Call Recorder Apps?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2021 05:34 PM PST

Does anyone know of any call recorder apps that, you know, work? I'm quite willing to pay for one that's dependable. I'm looking for something that will auto record incoming/outgoing calls as soon as the call is answered by either party, and also has decent audio quality on playback. I use a Galaxy Note 9. Dunno if that matters.

Thanks for reading my question! I look forward to reading your opinions and/or suggestions.

Note: I'm not looking to do anything shady, lol. I just would like the ability to prove a point if/when someone forgets what was really said. Or tries to gaslight. Lol I've had need of both in the past.

podcast app with a sponsor block like thing

    Posted: 10 Nov 2021 07:53 PM PST

I was wondering if anyone knew of a free, preferably foss, that has something like sponsor block? it would be nice for podcast that have lots of adds in them like MKBHD podcast that really take you out of the podcast.

for people who don't know what sponsor block is. it is an database that users submit where integrated ads, sub reminders, intros, and other thing are in youtube videos. you can chose to auto skip, have a pop up or just show in the timeline. basically it lets people skip things automatically in the content they are watching/listening to. it love it because of all the "please sub to the channel" parts in youtube videos bug the crap out of me.

My home internet is terrible, and I've hit the 5g cap on tethering

    Posted: 11 Nov 2021 03:34 PM PST

Are the wifi extender/tethering apps safe to use or will it get my plan cancelled with AT&T? 5g is literally 5 times faster than my home internet and would be a massive quality of life if I was able to tether without the restriction

Just asking broadly, if there's a good app or if they can get the plan cancelled

    Sound assistant app

    Posted: 11 Nov 2021 11:11 AM PST

I'm looking for a particular app but I don't know what to search. Every researches I've made bring me to unrelated subjects.

When using the sound buttons, it's goes up or down too much. It's either not enough loud or too much.

On my Galaxy S7, I had a Samsung app that allowed me to chnage that. I could change the sensitivity when pressing sound buttons (1 by 1, 5 by 5 etc).

Is there any android app that could allow that?

It is a pain as I'm always listening to music and my new phone has this issue (Google Pixel 6).

Hooe that I managed to be clear and that someone can help! Thanks.

Looking for a synchronized app plus website for floor planning

    Posted: 11 Nov 2021 12:55 AM PST

    Hi all,

I'm looking for an app for floor / space planning. My wishes are:

    • An app that also has a website so I can switch between the app when I'm on mobile and between the website when I'm on my laptop.
    • An upload function so I could upload my floor plan / specifications. This saves some time in terms of drawing out the plan.

I'm positive that such an app / website exists, but I'm just new to this world of room decorating.

    Thank you in advance.

Can't find the OBB files for some apps

    Posted: 11 Nov 2021 10:48 AM PST

Hello, I'm having some difficulty finding the obb files for some games I need to change. Previously, all games had their obb files in the directory /android/obb. However, they've all gone missing from there, except for a few.

I have no idea where they went, I've tried looking everywhere. I heard that it has something to do with Android 11 hiding app files. Any suggestions?

How Long Does Google Keep Google Maps Application Updated On Older Versions Of Android?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2021 08:52 AM PST

So I have a plan with one carrier where I get super cheap data, but I've had too many problems with text messages not working, and people not being able to call me, voicemail not working etc.

I am using google Fi now for voice, but the data is expensive.

I plan on using an older android phone for google maps, navigation, etc, on this other carrier with cheap data.

My concern is how long can I use an outdated version of android and still expect google to keep maps etc up to date?

    Thanks very much.

An App that gives me profiles - similar to iOS 15 Focus mode.

    Posted: 11 Nov 2021 12:24 PM PST

The closest thing I found is an app called Stay Focused. I just hate though how it has a constant notification in my notification centre and lock screen and some functionality is iffy. Also no functionality regarding blocking specific people from contacting.

I want to have different profiles for different roles/situations.

    ex:

    Working = Apps a,b,c permitted , websites a,b,c permitted, people a,b,c, permitted.

    At event/appointment = profile.

According to X calendar = profile

Which of these music reading trainer apps is better, and why?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2021 10:27 AM PST

In particular I'm interested in 'Complete Music Reading Trainer' (CMRT) and 'Clefs: Music reading trainer'. They seem to have the same basic interface and options. I primarily used CMRT, and like it quite well (its interface is a bit "crispier", and the sound isn't as "midi" as in Clefs), however Clefs has a higher rating on the online store. CMRT's full update\ unlock is a tad more expensive than that of Clefs (some 3$ difference). Additionally, Clefs' "lesson" mode has slightly more to offer with some reading material and "exams", as opposed to CMRT where it's all exercises.

So, yeah. Question is on the tin.

Alternatively, if you know of an even better app than these, do tell me.

    Thanks in advance!

Android app that ads additional language locale packs the Android (11) System (not for the keyboard) is translated to

    Posted: 11 Nov 2021 04:09 AM PST

I just got a new ZTE smartphone for my father and it's a good phone except that it doesn't have my country's language baked into the system, like Samsung's do.

Is there any app that doesn't require root and adds additional language locale packs into it's settings and more? I've tried googling this but the one app that I found to do this via adb, More Locale2, it's deprecated and doesn't have my language either. Any additional help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Adblocker for Android and iOS

    Posted: 11 Nov 2021 09:25 AM PST

First this adblocker does not require any app to run but I'd included a method which will need an app in order to run, and also this is not your typical adblocker since it is an DNS adblocker and for Android we'll call it private DNS, also there's a pros if you'll use methods that requires app.

We'll be using Ahadns or go to /r/AhaDNS, and our private dns provider supports 2 methods which is Blitz(you will control what to block, this will need an app to run) and Legacy(Ads, tracker, malware, virus, telemetry blocker ; the DoH will need an app to run and the DoT will not)

    Android methods:

{App needed} For macrodroid users here's a link for the macro: AhaDNS

Blitz: Costumize what you want to block here: Blitz And then copy the link. In order to run blits you'll either need Intra or Nebulo (they are available in playatore) Intra is user friendly and Nebulo is kinda advance so ye I prefer Intra.

Legacy: DoH: This will need an app to run use the one of the apps that I recommend ed. Go here and pick the closest server to you: DoH Servers Then copy the link if you want to use an app, or copy the ipv4 and use it as a dns in your wifi connection. DoT: This will nit need an app. First go and choose what server is closest to you here: DoT Servers, copy the TLS auth name. Then go to your device settings find private dns, select private dns hostname provider then paste the server you copied there and save.

    For more detailed setup: Setup

iOS method: Ye this one is for u iOS users

Looking for a simple, free VPN to bypass google play country limitation.

    Posted: 11 Nov 2021 08:15 AM PST

Before start, i already checked the sticky list:

    • OpenVPN for Android seems to be a vpn manager rather than a standalone vpn, or i am not using it correctly.
    • WireGuard the same as above.
    • CALYX VPN fails at the start, something about certificates not being valid.
    • LAVABIT works but...it doesn't bypass google store, it actually shows less apps than i normally get with my real location, i doubt it is actually a VPN.

    What i am looking for:

I want to install this game, sadly nintendo has a limited cover area, like many games in the store. So google play won't show it if search for it if you don't live in the cover area.

So, i need a VPN to bypass country limitations on the google play store.

In the past i used opera VPN to install games from all locations and worked WONDERFULLY, it was quick and easy to download apps that were not available in your country with just 1 click. Sadly it shut down years ago.

So i am looking for a simple, free VPN that can bypass google store country limitation. I won't use it extensively, just to download an app and then uninstall (google play lets you update games you installed even if you don't live in the game covered area).

Anyone would know of any VPN that meets this criteria?
