    Pixel 6 Pro power behaviour, same LFD ambient brightness crap as on the S21 Ultra, however with just utterly absurd power figures. 60Hz also uses more power than 120Hz in brighter environments - it's a big fail. If you're using the phone in dark environments, skip it. - Andrei F.

    So last night I installed android 12 on my Pixel 5, and the first impressions are not good. Mostly just things that I don't like, that I feel were better done on Android 11:

    • The lock screen clock is so damn ugly

      • It doesn't look like a clock. Why is it so big? why can't I change it? Why does it look so different (but better) when I have a notification

    • Why do I have 2 fewer quick settings when I drag down the notification view?

      • Obviously, its because more won't fit, but I don't need text next to it saying what it does, that's what the icon is for, so that text isn't needed

    • The quick settings are on a black background even with light mode on

      • why? It just makes everything look inconsistent

    • All menus have a solid background

      • Like entering your pin, the notification view, the app history, all now show a solid background rather than a darkened version of the wallpaper. It just looks so clumsy the way it changes from wallpaper to a solid colour

    • Opening up the app drawer isn't as smooth

      • Android 11: the google search bar moves up to the top of the screen and the apps follow as if you are dragging them up.
        Android 12: The white background appears out of nowhere, the apps start sliding from halfway up, and the search bar just disappears from the bottom and jumps to the top

    • Less customisation

      • Isn't the point of android 12 more customisation? then why can I no longer change the font, app icon shape, or the font
      • Why aren't there more colour options, the ones that are there are pretty limited

    • Google home device controls are no longer in the power menu

      • That was a really convenient place for them, now I have to swipe down the quick settings (twice, because there's only 4 on the first swipe, and I want them to be the ones I use most), and then select home devices

    • Turning Wi-Fi off now requires two taps since they combined wifi and mobile data into one quick setting

      • I never need to turn mobile data off, but sometimes wifi needs to go off, for example, if it's trying to connect to a network that I don't want to be on. This just adds an extra step to the process.

    Sorry for the long post, these are just some of the things that I don't like about the new update. TBH, there isn't actually anything that I can think of that's better, my phone has just been made worse.

    Does anyone else find any of these things annoying, or are you liking Android 12?

    What do we think the chances are that Google actually incorporates more customization / updates into Android 12 to address the complaints? "Material You" seems to be made for grandma and grandpa at the expense of all other users. I've used Android for a long time and this is the first Android update that I've felt has been a step backwards in many regards and definitely the first time in years that I've felt the pull to go back to the root and custom ROMs days. Maybe "Pixel Android" is just not meant for power users and we should be going over to Samsung One UI with Good Lock instead?

    • The "Material You" color options are a complete joke. Give me the option to use professional-looking white UI elements in dark mode and not be forced into using random Fisher-Price Nick Jr. pastel colors

    • Notification shade takes up the entire screen with unused white space. This one probably has the biggest impact on day-to-day usage (along with the limited Material You color options). Checking a notification now feels like it hurts your multitasking ability and breaks your workflow by covering up the whole screen

    • No option to change the gigantic two-row lockscreen clock. The two-row format is harder to read than a normal one-row clock and it looks ridiculous... Fine if they want to default to this, but at least give us the option to use a normal clock

    • Notification shade only gives 4 gigantic quick settings toggles. Forced to double-pull to access other toggles or change screen brightness

    • Giant padding in notifications which cuts off the notification text (you know, the actual important part of the notification...)

    • Giant volume slider that covers up more of your video than before the update

    How to disable the navigation bar using fabricated overlays [NO ROOT]

    Pre:

    EDIT: IF YOU HAVE A PIXEL 6 THE FINGERPRINT ICON CLASHES WITH THE CLOCK.

    This only works on Android 12.

    Insert: if this messes up your device it isn't my fault. Generic custom ROM message

    First:

    Get Fabricate overlay installed and working.

    Next:

    1.Tap "add overlay"

    2.Search for "android system" and tap the first option.

    3.Tap "add" and search for "navigation_bar_frame_height" its the first option tap it and set it to "0" then hit apply.

    4.Tap "add" again and search for "navigation_bar_height" its the first option tap it and set it to "0" then hit apply.

    5.Tap "add" again and search for "navigation_bar_height_landscape" its the first option tap it and set it to "0" then hit apply.

    6.There should be 3 cards corresponding to the 3 overlays you've modified.

    7.Hit save and name it whatever you want I named mine "nobar" also pray it doesn't crash, dismiss the keyboard after naming and then hit save.

    8.Tap the checkbox to activate the overlay and watch the bar disappear.

    If you create an overlay with only 4 and 5 in it you will reclaim the extra space the system gap takes up but the little white bar will still exist.

    Imagine Chrome without the grey background around the little white navigation bar (I believe Samsung has an option to keep the bar but reclaim the space and ColourOS & OOS on NORD2 does it by default)

    But only using overlays 4 & 5 the bar will not contrast the colour behind it.

    Also using overlay 3 will remove the extra space the keyboard gets making it harder to type (overlay 4 doesn't do this.)

    It's hard to describe so here are some images.

    Hey guys and girls. I wanted to share my experience with the pixel 6 in case some of you are interested in buying one. I had it for about a week but sold it and went back to Mi10. Let me explain Why:

    • finger print reader / unlocking: as someone who uses his phone quite a lot unlocking is a big and important feature for me. On my Xiaomi I use 99% the time face unlock. While it is not 100% secure, it is very convenient and on Xiaomi it is instant. I pick up my phone and it is unlocked. On pixel 6 this feature is not existing. Besides the finger print reader is slow and very very buggy. It doesn't work 7 out of 10 times. This means you always have to try at least 3 to 4 times until it is unlocked. This is unacceptable for me. The update did nothing in my case.

    • performance: while the phone in general is fast it stutteres a lot. Sometimes when you jump to a different app. Sometimes in the browser. I am doing a lot of video editing and this showed me the real power of the pixel 6. Spoiler alert: it is weak. I use the app FilmaroGo which I like a lot. On my Xiaomi phone I never ever had any stuttering and holy shit in Pixel. Often when I was moving the seeker in the editor it stopped up to 1 second before it jumped to the next frame. It is really annoying and makes the whole process very pain full. The CPU is much weaker compared to the SD870 in my Xiaomi.

    • over heating: this phone gets hot and when I say hot I mean really hot. It gets hot when I charge it with the MacBook fast charger. All the time. But it got so hot when I was charging and video editing that I could only hold it by touching the Frame, not the body. There is something very wrong with this CPU.

    -camera performance: first Points first. The pixel can shoot beautiful photos. Most of the times. But the post processing is really slow. I mean 5 to 8 seconds slow. It can take great pictures but it just takes a lot of time to process. But that's it. Everything else about the camera set-up is underwhelming. The front facing camera is extremely cheap and bad. Even in half dark room it gets so bad it is unusable. The photo is washed out and looks very bad. Same condition and my Xiaomi takes pictures with out any artefacts and very sharp. Also video is not on flagship level. It is too dark, the hdr and colours are underwhelming and it just doesn't look good. My Xiaomi takes amazing videos. Not on same level as Samsung and Apple but still very very good videos.

    In general the phone feels not like a flagship phone. If you used a flagship phone for the last year's like I did you will not be satisfied with this phone. If you are coming from a Pixel 4 or 5 you might love this Phone.

    But honestly why the fuck did Google takes face unlock away from this phone?
