Which part should be upgraded first? budget PC build

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 02:05 AM PDT

    Hello redditors,

I'm planing on upgrading my PC and i have about 250 EUR budget.
I would like to play Forza Horizon 4-5, GTA V online and "Riders Republic"
I had some sttutering issues while playing GTA and Forza before, due to "CPU Bottlnecking" according to what i've found, but it could be other issues as well.

    My current PC stats:

    CPU

    Intel Core i5 6400 @ 2.70GHz Skylake 14nm Technology

    RAM

    8.00GB Single-Channel Unknown @ 1063MHz (15-15-15-35)

    Motherboard

    ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. H110M-K (LGA1151)

    Graphics

    VG248 (1920x1080@120Hz) 8192MB ATI Radeon RX 580 Series (MSI)

    Storage

    111GB KINGSTON SA400S37120G (SATA-2 (SSD)) 465GB Western Digital WDC WD5000AAKX-60U6AA0 (SATA )

I know that is not the best PC but i've only paid 320 EUR for it in 2019.

The parts does not necessary has to be new, if for example GPU is recommended.

    Thank you for your time.

P.s the gpu is not overclocked and the ram is really old

Should I upgrade my RAM, CPU, or GPU to improve my gaming experience?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 09:57 AM PDT

I have the following and would like to make an upgrade to improve my gaming experience. I realized I needed this after playing Mafia 3, which can stutter quite a bit on my machine. All these components are kinda old. I first built this machine back in 2014 I believe. I want my machine to be able to play Final Fantasy 15 at 1080p running smoothly with respectable settings.

CPU: AMD Athlon Multi Core Processor AD760KWOHLBOX, 760K Richland 3.8GHz Socket FM2 100W
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 680 Classified
    RAM: AMD Performance Edition 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

    • Should I upgrade my RAM, CPU, or GPU first to improve my gaming experience from a performance perspective? What about a timing perspective?
    • Are there other components that I should be looking at? I already have an SSD.

    Thanks in advance!

    Troubleshooting: Build won't boot with a Ryzen 7 5800X

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 02:31 PM PDT

    Troubleshooting Help:

    What is your parts list?

This is the whole build, but the main parts of concern are the B450 ITX motherboard and the two CPUs:

    • An Athlon 200GE, which I initially got as a "boot kit" to update the BIOS on this mobo
    • A Ryzen 7 5800X, which I wish to use post-BIOS update.

Describe your problem. List any error messages and symptoms. Be descriptive.

When the Ryzen 7 processor is in the system, I get no video output and the system does not POST or boot. However, the Athlon processor boots just fine. Additionally, the CPU fan takes noticeably longer to start spinning when I power on with the Ryzen processor seated in.

List anything you've done in attempt to diagnose or fix the problem.

I have tried this both with (and without) a GPU (an RX 5700 from a previous machine). There are no error messages - again, the system doesn't POST. This is after updating the BIOS on the motherboard.

Post relevant photos of build/parts here.

I'm unsure what pictures would be relevant. Here's the system powered on with the Athlon 200GE in and the case open.

Provide any additional details you wish below.

I'm certain the GPU works, as it was used in a previous build (same with the storage and power supply).

    PC won't start after cleaning

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 01:11 PM PDT

So I disassembled pretty much my whole PC in order to clean it out. I put it back together and it won't start. When I push the power button, I hear a "click" noise from the power supply, but then nothing else happens.

I checked everything. I didn't miss any connections or wires. What happened?

Help choosing a 1440p high refresh monitor

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 12:38 PM PDT

I've finally obtained a graphics card (3080) and have my first build in the works but haven't decided what monitor would be best. I'm pretty sure I'd like 1440p but am unsure as to whether ultrawide/curved or 16:9 flat would be better. Usage will be primarily gaming and photo editing (ie lightroom/GIMP/photoshop/etc.), as well as general web browsing/desktop use.

I've done some research and these models: (https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/asus/tuf-gaming-vg34vql1b and https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/acer/nitro-xv272u-kvbmiiprzx) both seem pretty good and around what I'd like to spend on one. Is either one decidedly "better" than the other, or is there some other model I should get that's a better value? Thanks in advance

Help with finding BSOD root cause - Whea Uncorrectable Error

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 10:30 AM PDT

Hello, need some help trying to find the root cause of the Whea Uncorrectable Error. Currently, for roughly a year now, my computer will start to show this error and it'll range from crashing during games only to not even being able to boot into windows. The strange thing though is that it comes in waves. It'll start crashing non-stop but after a quick pc-rebuild, it'll stop but then come back a month or two later. I tried looking through solutions online but haven't found anything useful yet. Here's my system info, some details about the pc, and everything I've tried so far.

    PC Specs:

CPU: 7700k - Currently running stock, no overclock what-so-ever.

Cooler: Cryorig r1 Ultimate - Running this with Silent Wings 3 fans

Motherboard: Gigabyte z270x gaming 7 - Running either F9a or f9e... I'm pretty sure it's f9e. No modified bios settings other than enabling XMP profile.

Ram: Corsair 2x8GB 3200MHz ram - Running XMP profile

Storage: 500GB Sabrent Rocket 4.0 (primary) and 2TB ADATA SX8200 Pro (secondary)

    GPU: EVGA 1080 Hybrid

    PSU: 550w Bitfenix Whisper M

This issue started 1 year ago where I started getting tons of crashes back to back. After doing a series of tests such as using 1 stick of ram at a time, running memcheck, and testing out the SSDs with chkdsk tool, the issue was still persistent. In the end, I ended up taking out my CPU and I noticed that the liquid metal had started moving around and some of it was on the PCB. I assumed this was the issue and ended up removing the lm and putting in kryonaut instead. After putting the pc back together, everything seemed to work fine. A few months later, it happened again. I kept running into the error whenever I was playing a game. This time, I just decided to re-do the thermal paste for the CPU die and CPU cooler and see what happens and that again fixed it. But, a few months later... while playing games, I ran into the BSOD again. At this point, I was wondering if it was temperature related. So I tried conductonaut for the CPU, and after putting the PC back together, I ran prime 95 for an hour. When I came back, the pc was still running. I then opened up GTA V and left my character in the city for a few hours and when I came back, again, it was running fine. But as the pattern goes, a few months later, it started to BSOD again... At this point, I was wondering if it was the kryonaut since idk why, it just looked really dry. I thought again, maybe it was just a heat issue and my PC kept overheating. Temps were around high 80c's with spikes to 90c. Bought some Corsair thermal paste and put that on the CPU die and cooler and all worked. A month later (aka, now), and I got the blue screens again... For now, this is all the info I have...

    1. Thermals and Voltage - Here's a capture of my current thermals and voltages. All I can really say is that with all the panels off, it idles around 38c/ 39c. Running a prime 95 large test for 30 minutes will push it into the high 90C and 100C. Everything else looks fine though??? I don't think the voltages or clock speeds look abnormal, I'm pretty sure I have good coverage for the CPU die and CPU cooler since I taped off and used a spreader to cover the whole die and ihs. But these temps still don't really look promising...
    2. For the CPU, I've re-done the thermal paste again... and well, it's working for now since I'm typing this, but I'm sure in some time... the BSOD will be back. I've checked the socket and the CPU PCB. No damages that I can see what-so-ever. No debris anywhere, etc. IHS is getting good contact with the die.
    3. Again, I've done the 1 stick only for ram, but no luck there. Still blue screens.
    4. Some have mentioned it could be a SSD issue? But again, I've run dskchk and no issues there. I've clean installed Windows 10 twice during this year so all drivers are fresh and everything was formatted but in enough time, the crashes came back.
    5. I don't think it's a power spike related issue since I don't see abnormal power usage from either the CPU or GPU.
    6. When it crashes, the only info I get from any sort of logs is just the event viewer saying my computer crashed... I've tried waiting out the blue screen when it's "gathering information" but it's always at 0%. Left it for a few hours and it was still 0%. No minidumps, no dump files, are ever created. In the event viewer, it actually says that no minidump file could be created. Or whatever the wording is for that. Not sure why since again, I believe my SSDs are not faulty.
    7. After re-building the pc, I ran a few benchmark tests from prime95, to the fuzzy donut, and in game benchmarks. Outside of high temps as seen in the thermals and voltage image above, games don't crash, I don't thermal throttle, I don't blue screen. But as pattern follows, in a few weeks or so, it probably will.
    8. I have tried running benchmark tests when the crashes start occurring, but honestly, sometimes the prime95 test will run and it won't crash, other times, I can't even open up my browser/ get into windows without it crashing.

But yeah, any suggestions or troubleshooting guides I can look into? I'm actually really stumped on this and not sure what's going on.

Building a pc for a friend, he wants it to be around $600. Is that possible right now?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 09:49 AM PDT

I haven't been able to find gpus that'll fit that price range. He's moving from console to pc and doesn't know what he wants in regards to resolution and refresh rate. I would say probably just 1080p 60fps

    How do I power a rig w/ 4x 3080s?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 02:10 PM PDT

I'm looking to build a rig with 4x 3080s, most likely using consumer motherboard and CPU (LGA 2066 or new LGA 1700 w/ PCIe 5.0). However, I'm not sure how to provide adequate power. I don't know of any PSUs that provide that much power aside from the miner ones that I see.

Can someone help me understand this? Are there 3000w PSUs out there or do I need two PSUs working in tandem. If the latter, how do those interface with each other and the motherboard?

Edit to add: this isn't for mining.

Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic - 6 Fans placement?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 09:30 AM PDT

    Hey,

I built my new pc in a Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic case. I have a Noctua D15 for CPU cooling and I bought 6 Uni Fan SL120s.

    Question 1:
What would be the best fan configuration with my 6 fans? There is a lot of information out there but its a bit confusing to me.

    Question 2:
I might get another CPU cooler since I cant close my case... big noob mistake from my part since the Noctua is way too big, but I can live with an open case for now. However I would be interested in knowing what a good setup would be if I had a radiator/fan cooler instead as well.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers!

Hi! Assembled today an APU pc,heres some specs:

    RAM:2x8GB Kingston 3200mhz cl16 CPU: Ryzen 7 5700g Mobo: Asrock Fatality b450 itx ac

So i checked some benchmark videos on youtube and my performance is a lot lower than that with the same setup. I installed the newest drivers, fresh installed windows,i also checked the bios if the ram speed is lower but its not.

Any idea what else should i check?

    I think I got hacked?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 04:36 PM PDT

An hour ago I was running RDR2 on my pc. I noticed that the CPU temps were 10 C higher than normal / usual. I looked at the Task Manager > Processes Tab, and found nothing unusual. I then ran a malwarebytes quick scan, also found nothing, system completely clean. I re-entered the game, the issue persisted. Then I shut down my PC and turned it back on (not restarted, shut it down then a few seconds later turned it back on). I ended up solving the issue completely, temps are fine 100% again. I'm afraid someone may have connected to my PC remotely and that's what caused this issue. How can I check if anyone is remotely connected to my PC? I never gave anyone access to it btw.

GPU Fan is dead, do i place a approx. 2x larger case fan on it or buy a smaller new case fan?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 12:30 PM PDT

Hello, my Gigabyte GT 1030 fan recently gave up on me. I have an approx. 90 mm case fan lying around. I planned to put it on the much smaller Low Profile 1030 heatsink, but the case fan is like 2 times the size of the entire heatsink. Will that impact cooling much or should i get a smaller case fan that fits the heatsink better?

Buying a new gpu isn't an option currently.

    Is this a good build?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 09:58 AM PDT

    Hi all,

I'm ready to purchase the parts to upgrade my old PC build into a mostly new one and was wondering if you guys could give me advice on anything that might be tweaked (in terms of compatibility and such). These are the parts I was thinking about using:

    • CPU: Ryzen 5 5600x
    • CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 RGB Black Edition
    • MOBO: ASUS TUF GAMING B550-PLUS Wi-Fi
    • RAM: Kingston FURY Beast DDR4 3200 MHz 16GB 2x8GB CL16
    • STORAGE: TBD (Suggestions welcome for a 1TB SSD)
    • GPU: PNY GeForce RTX 3060 TI
    • CASE: Fractal Design Define R4
    • PSU: Corsair RM 850W 80+ Gold Certified

Note: The case and PSU are being reused from my old build

I was wondering what you guys thought regarding this build. Is there something that you would change (specifically when it comes to the MOBO and RAM, seeing how I couldn't find the exact same RAM on PCPartPicker to test compatibilities)? Also, I'm not very good when it comes to the physical compatibility of the parts. Will the tower be ok dimension-wise or should I get a new tower?

    Thank you all in advance!

    Black Monitor and FFC Cable

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 03:53 PM PDT

Hello everyone so my problem is with my second monitor ptetty old model of 2008 Lcd Led panel philips.

All started one month ago, I noticed that the monitor wouldnt turn on and I had to unplug it from power and power it after 5-10 mins.

Couple of days ago I opened my monitor and removed the cables from the motheboard including the Ffc cable and put them back again the monitor was working just fine.

The problem was when I was turning off the monitor it wouldn't power at all, so today I checked with my voltmeter the voltage of the capacitors and guess what one was dead.

I changed the capacitor the monitor turnt on right away and then I joined a game to see if everything was fine, because i know if something is not attached correctly it would cause issues, the monitor was tearing with the game , also one of the backlight right top corner wasn't working for some reason.

I Opened the monitor again and checked the connectivity of the FFC cable on both sides, the first thing i saw is that the metal sides werent in a good contidion so I cut it and scratched it to see if will have better connection but nothing the monitor would power up but not the Panel of the monitor.

TLDR:::: Can the Ffc cable result to screen tearing, no backlight (in some leds), and not giving power to the panel???

    I'm at a crossroad...

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 12:06 PM PDT

So I'm pretty sure everyone is going to be like, "Build your own PC"... I get that. I built the PC I'm on right now with my brother and I had the most fun doing it. But life sometimes gets in the way and I'm at a crossroad right now. I've got a budget of about, more or less, $3000. I've got the option 1: build my own PC, by myself, with the parts I'm linking below or get a custom made PC from either NZXT or cyberpowerPC (I'm leaning towards NZXT but if you have other opinions I would love to hear them) which I'll link the parts below.

    https://imgur.com/a/cmXC1mE

Option #1: +$1600 (without GPU, monitor)

Pros: I get to build my own PC / HELLA cheaper than custom built / I get to choose the parts I want in my PC / I'd have enough in my budget to buy a new 1440p monitor.

Cons: I'd have to wait for a GPU (either 3060ti or 3070) to be on sale of MSRP / I'd have to build it on my own (which I'm not too confident about but also could take me a while since I've got work, kids, pets, wife, work...)

Option #2: $2500+ (everything, without monitor)

    Pros: Plug and play

Cons: Close to budget so I'd have to wait to get a new monitor / Anxious about whether I get sent a good/working PC / HELLA more expensive

Would love some advice, help or anything you can give me to really help me make a decision and also anything on the parts that I should be concerned about or should rather pick up instead would be incredibly helpful. Thank you everyone and looking forward to hearing from you all!
