Examples of questions suitable for here:

    • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
    • I'm thinking of getting a ≤$300 graphics card. Which one should I get?
    • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case ≤$50

Is it worth to hire somebody else to assemble my pc?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2021 12:22 PM PDT

Hello guys, so basically, I have all components I need on me, the shop did't have such good reputation regarding assembling PCs for customers so I chosen different way to do it, and I believed my friend would do that but now he has to go to other city coz his university is there and I found risky to put my components away regarding the distance and length that it would take (it would take 2 weeks to get it to me so time is also a measure here), so I need to ask a question "Is it that hard / dangerous to assemble the PC by myself?" I know that might sound stupid on this sub, but keep in mind please that I've spend over 2k USD on my components so i just dont want to damage them by any way, so now I am considering hiring some professional to do the thing for me, coz professional have some insurance or whatever that my friend would not have and I just feel afraid about things being fucked up. I heard that you need to test the HW, like rams, cpu and whatsoever which i never did in past and I'm worried that i might fuck my PC up.

Is it harmful in the long run to upload massive (50GB+) files while I sleep at night thus keep the pc running?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2021 09:07 PM PDT

It does take several hours because I have a trash 25 Mbps upload speed because my ISP is a bunch a-holes and can't offer symmetrical bandwidth :/

    I'm so pissed tbh.

Edit: I mean uploading them to YouTube. In the case of such large files, it usually takes ~6 hours give or take

    Posted: 03 Oct 2021 02:58 AM PDT

Never have a ever heard of 24GB of ram, why? What happens if i buy three sticks of 8GB and stick it into my motherboard? As simple as it sounds it's never been spoken of

Every game is making my PC crash, I'm running out of ideas.

    Posted: 03 Oct 2021 10:01 AM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I built a PC at the beginning of the year, and I feel it's going worse and worse in term of stability.

It's working flawlessy in basics everyday tasks and is flying above every benchmark or stress tests I've thrown at it. But gaming, there's no way I can get a session that's longer than 30 minutes. I just don't get it.

    Here's the specs :

    • CPU : 5600x
    • MB : ASUS ROG B550-I
    • RAM : Corsair Dominator RGB - 2x16GB - 3200Mhz
    • GPU : RTX 3080 FE
    • SSD : Samsung 970 Evo Pro 1Tb M.2 Nvme
    • PSU : Corsair SF750 Platinum

    And now a list of everything I tried/checked :

    Software :

    • Temps are in control, CPU never exceeds 60-65 °C, GPU around 78°C
    • No overclock whatsoever, even disabled DOCP so the RAM is running at 2133Mhz
    • Playing after a clean boot with nothing running in the background
    • DDU'd the GPU drivers and installed a fresh "standard" one (472.12)
    • Installed a fresh W10 after using Samsung secure erase to completely wipe the SSD
    • Clean the registry with CC cleaner
    • Tried changing the way the virtual memory is managed

    Hardware :

    • Tried another GPU (RTX 3070 FE)
    • Tried another RAM pair and RMA'd mine

I feel it's getting worse, but I think it's never been really stable from the beginning, crashes were just less frequent. I just built a new PC for my brother with specs just a bit lower and it's working perfectly, so I'm starting to think it's an hardware issue on my side (especially after the fresh new install of Windows).

Games from EA are especially unstable, usually all games crash to desktop but for example Battlefield V can even cause my pc to reboot (like one out of ten crashes). Sometimes it crashes after 30 minutes, sometimes in the menu before even starting to play.

Something is definitetly wrong and I don't know if I need to look for a CPU or a MOBO issue. PSU seems to be perfectly functionning, it holds when I stress test the CPU and the GPU at the same time (GPU at around 320w and CPU around 75w, so there's room)

If someone have the knowledge to understand the analysis of a crash dump, that might be helpful.

And if someone manage to fix a similar issue, how did you do it ?

    Thank you very much !

    Planning a PC build

    Posted: 03 Oct 2021 08:42 AM PDT

I currently run on i7-4790k + GTX970 and I think I am going to make a build close to the end of the year or early 2022. My plan is to go for Ryzen 9 5900x + RTX3080. Goal is 100% gaming, and I am planning to upgrade to 2k monitor soon after. Ideally I want 144fps stable with most titles and 5900x+3080 sounds like a good option with some future proof. With GPU shortage and incredible prices I am not so sure. Right now I am thinking on making a build without GPU and use my old GTX970 until I get lucky with RTX3080. Do you think it is a good idea? Would I get a significant performance increase? Or should I wait and build it all together once prices drop? EDIT: some formatting, to make it readable

Could this have caused any damage to that lane? I don't want to cause any problems for my newly installed RTX 3060.

New PC build, high 10850k temperature

    Posted: 03 Oct 2021 08:34 AM PDT

Current pc is a corsair 4000d, 3 fans front intake, one top intake near the front, and 1 exhaust rear. Noctua d15 with 2 fans blowing to the rear exhaust, 10850k, 3060ti, msi z490 tomahawk, 16gb corsair lpx 3200, samsung 980 nvme, seasonic 750 gold, LG 34GL750-B 144hz monitor

Im idling around 35c. In game i am seeing high 80s, sometimes low 90s. Occasional dip to 70s. This is a clean install and completely update windows 10 home. Nothing is installed besides a few programs. I am also getting frame lag when i dont have any to little latency and its pretty consistent. This is in warzone by the way. I dont know if thats related to hardware performance based on my temps or i need some further software tweaking to do, but thats another topic. Should i change my fan orientation? only thing i could think of hardware wise is re apply the cooler and paste? Looking for some steps to take.

My previous pc was a 3060ti, 2700x, thermaltake versa h18. I had 1 fan at the front bottom, the corsair hydro h60 mounted at the front top, one top fan exhaust and 1 exhaust fan rear and i never had thermal issues. Assuming the 10850k runs hotter anyways

GTX 1060 3GB from HP : removed thermal paste !!

    Posted: 03 Oct 2021 04:01 PM PDT

Hi everyone, i bought a used GTX 1060 3GB by HP (single fan and aluminum cooler) when i received it the fan wire was disconnected so i plugged it back in. Then it was running well but very very hot (82-83°C)

I opened it and there was no thermal paste at all, i uploaded the photos, i guess the last user cleaned it to fuck the next owner. I repasted it and it's not really running much cooler.. maybe 1-2°C cooler at best. Think i should keep it ? I ran it about 8 mins in game before applying paste. Thanks !

What do I need to upgrade for my PC to be VR ready (for now and roughly the next couple years with new games)

    Posted: 03 Oct 2021 08:51 AM PDT

As the title says. I built my pc back in 2017. I have a ryzen 5 1600. The GPU is well a 650ti, which for very obvious reasons is being upgraded. I'm unsure what kind of GPU would be best suited at the moment nor am I aware of what's coming up in the GPU world (worth waiting? It's all I've done since then expecting prices to go down then giving up after crypto messed up a lot of prices).

Any ideas on what GPU would be good or worth waiting for would be amazing. And any thoughts on if the CPU is good enough at the moment or I should upgrade to a (preferably higher gen ryzen) better cpu.

Thanks so much to anyone responding, I'm not too caught up on the recent hardware nor have I ever until recently been able to afford anything like VR so it's always been the range i ignored until now.

    i9-10850k 3070ti Build Advice

    Posted: 03 Oct 2021 04:22 PM PDT

Hi, thanks for checking out this post. Recently fried part of an old PC and looking at building a new one. Some notes: I could probably save a little on the cooler / nvme but I don't mind a slight markup for a well reviewed product. Also I already have the GPU which is why the price is $0. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

    Black screen gpu issue

    Posted: 03 Oct 2021 10:07 AM PDT

As title says, I have an issue where my computer just goes to a black screen after a few mins of booting. I also have lots of pink/green lines across the screen. This seems to have happened after some recent windows and driver updates but I'm not sure. The card is a gigabyte 3070 oc and is not even a year old.

Any ideas on what I can do?

    PC wont turn on.

    Posted: 03 Oct 2021 03:56 PM PDT

So I posted here a month or so ago asking for help on making a build and I got it (it looks great btw, thanks!). Problem is, I've got it built after following a video guide since I'm inexperienced at building setups, I think I followed along well enough though. Once I go to turn it on however, nothing happens. I get no response from the CPU whatsoever. The fans dont start, no noises, etc. What all could have gone wrong? Like I said, this is my first time building a PC myself and I'm very inexperienced so any and anything I may have overlooked, no matter how obvious, please point it out to me and I will report back on results.

PC power button is not working most of the time?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2021 01:30 PM PDT

Hey all, I got a pre-built PC about 8 years ago. Only thing I upgraded was the MOBO, GPU/CPU. about 2 years ago.

Suddenly today, my PC power button does not work most of the time. i cannot shut it down with it, and I would have to push it many times just to boot my PC up.

What should I look into to fix this?

Can somebody please help me figure out why my PC suddenly won't start before I go crazy?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2021 03:23 PM PDT

    Here's what I have

This PC has worked great for the last year without any issue and then today it suddenly won't start. Sometimes when I plug it back in and try booting it will just give red lights on the MoBo for a split second without any beep codes. The fans on the power supply will also start for a second. I've tried other plugs with the same result. Could it be as simple as a dead power supply?

Is an RTX 3090 really worth it right now?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2021 06:00 PM PDT

Or am I better off waiting for the 40 series to build a pc?

Is it possible to get it in stores?

So the $ right now isn't too bad, I can afford a decent $4k PC build but should this be apart of it?

I really want ray tracing 4k gaming with a minimum of 60fps

Building a gaming PC - Can I get some feedback on parts, please?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2021 03:03 PM PDT

    Hello good people,

Can I please get some feedback on these parts for a build? Suggestions, advice all welcome. This will be my first build from scratch.

It's for my cousin who will use it for games / general purpose. Trying to strike a balance between price and power... and of course, with RGB. I haven't included the GPU because we'll be using a temporary one for now - 3060 eventually. Thanks in advance.

    Bios update on B550

    Posted: 03 Oct 2021 09:50 AM PDT

Hello everyone, I'm Adrian. Today I would kindly ask you for your help. I bought a ryzen 5 5600G procesor with a MB MSI B550 tomahawk. As I tried to run it, I got a red light saying the Cpu is wrong or something. (you know those 4 led indicators). But ok, I Googled it it seems as I don't have newest Bios so the MB won't "see" the ryzen.

No worries, I tried something by myself. I downloaded a bios zip from MSI site. Flashed usb into fat32, renamed the file to MSI.ROM, copied it, plugged usb into MB, pushed flash button. Then I get red LED, which will blink (flash) for 5s, then turn red and shine. But nothing more happens. No another LEDs, no power supply spinning. Nothing as people showing in videos on YT. I have tried 3 different USBs. I also double checked that the file is ROM file, not ROM. 123 or something. Should be OK. I also disconnected everything except power supply to motherboard and cpu power (that 8 pin).

However, nothing works. I know it's hard question, but I wanted to try. I still have a 10 days within I can return MB, but I would take this as last option.

I appreciate every advice. Thank you.
