Nitro 5 11400h battery life? Please share your experience.

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 02:43 AM PDT

So I am looking forward to buy nitro 5 with 11400h and 3050. But I am really concerned on how much battery life can I get from this laptop.

Those who own a nitro 5 with 11400h (with any dgpu), how much battery life do you get for normal tasks like browsing or/and word typing etc. (basically very less powerful tasks)? Particularly looking to know the battery life with power saving mode on (dgpu off), keyboard backlight off, screen brightness down to comfortable levels and most importantly refresh rate lowered down to 60hz.
If you undervolted the CPU, please mention that too.

A quick response will be highly appreciated because I have to make a decision in a couple of days.

    Good student laptop <$1000

    Posted: 28 Oct 2021 05:31 PM PDT

Can anyone recommend a good student/light gaming laptop?

    Budget: $1000

Screen: 15" (this is one of the most important factors for me)

Battery life should be decent, at least four hours. I am not looking for a 2 in one or a convertible laptop, touchscreen is not a desirable feature for me. Backlit keyboard would be nice as well. When I say light gaming I mean it. I might play some TF2 or terraria on my PC, but that's about it. I would prefer a laptop that is not an Acer, and I have no preference as far as form factor. Mainly I just want a decent amount of ram/SSD and a fast CPU (preferably i7 equivalent or better) so my laptop can last me through a few years of school. As far as RAM goes, upgradability is a plus. Please let me know your suggestions!

    Light gaming.

Not expecting to play Cyberpunk, AAA titles at low settings hitting 30 FPS is fine. Witcher 3 at medium hitting 60 FPS would be great. Overwatch at high hitting 60+ FPS would be perfect.

    Nope.

I want an excellent work / study laptop that can last 7+ hours and can do light gaming any other time. The Honor Magic book looks fantastic to me but is just missing they dedicated graphics card. I really don't need the best in class graphics, I just want to be able to have some fun when I can.

Starting college soon and need help!

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 12:04 AM PDT

Hello all, I need help deciding which macbook m1 to get. I have a buddy willing to sell me an m1 macbook pro 8, 512 for $1k and that's some good savings.

I want a 16, 512 cuz of that extra ram but I don't know if I need it that much since I've never owned a MacBook before.

I'm willing to spend up to 1700 for the one I want but if I don't need it then I'm not going to spend it. Also m1 air 16, 512 is like 1300 and that seems pretty good also.

Should I take the savings and buy the one from my buddy or get the air or pro 16, 512?

My major is network and system administration. I plan on having it plugged into an ultrawide when home. I do not do any video or photo editing, it will be strictly used for college and leisure.

    Thank you!

PC that feels like a MacBook?

    Posted: 28 Oct 2021 11:10 PM PDT

So I just updated my 2015 MacBook pro to the most recent MacOS and that good old "planned obsolescence" slowing down has started and I am starting to look for a new laptop. I'm an engineering student, so I would like to make the switch to a PC so that I can do more CAD and other things. However, I really like the feel of apple laptops. I am comfortable with windows, so its more of a physical similarity that I am looking for. I just feel like every non-Apple laptop I find feels bulky and plastic. Is there anything out there that has a more sleek feel?

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

$1300 or less. I'm a student so cheaper is better, but I'm also willing to consider something for more if someone really recommends it.

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?

      Probably not

    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

All about the same priority I think. Maybe a little more on battery life since I will be using it to take notes in classes. Also I am wondering if I should look for a 2-in-1 for that same reason because I had been thinking about getting an iPad and pencil to take notes.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

Very. I will be carrying it around in a backpack so I don't want a brick.

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

      13"-16ish is good

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

CAD for sure. Usually SOLIDWORKS. I dabble in the other things listed for fun. So while it would be an extra perk to have something that I can video edit and make digital art on, the engineering career related stuff is the most important.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

      N/A

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Basically what I said in the intro.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Yup that's pretty much it. Sorry for the novel. Just want something that feels sleek and light like an Apple, but that I can use for my studies and future career. Also if there's nothing like that out there, just tell me and I'll get over it. But I wanted to get other people's advice before I give up. Thank you in advance.

    Student Laptop for under $700

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 02:12 AM PDT

Hi, I am looking for good student laptop for under 700 dollars.

Cpu power isn't my most important part as it wont be used for anything heavy resource intensive. You could say it would be used a bit more than web browsing Ram: Would be great to have 16 GBs as multitasking is somewhat required (I guess 8gb would be about enough but I wouldn't want to risk it) Storage: I think every laptop now has SSD so anything in range of 256+ GBs

In terms of screen: I would prefer IPS screen, nothing fancy needed Battery life is the most important thing to me and that is the main reason for posting here. I need something that can last 5-6 hours of screentime (light use) I would prefer for it not to have OS as it is often paid extra for it and I would install Linux anyways.

    Thank you in advance guys!

Laptop for Graduate School. Deciding between a few options... (Taiwan)

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 01:53 AM PDT

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

~$28,000 NTD (Taiwan). Can be flexible based on deals and value

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?

-Yes, but I am wary of them.

    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

-Build quality (I want longevity), performance, battery life/form factor

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

-I take my laptop everyday to class. My current laptop is 2.4kg so to have anything lighter would be great.

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    -I have a 15.6in now. I think a 14in would be perfect but I'm not too picky.

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

-I am applying for grad school and am looking to be involved in economics/finance. Currently for me, this involves using R & Stata. I am possibly going to study Information Systems which involves some programming. For general use and research, I generally run MS office apps (PowerPoint/Word), MS teams, MS OneNote, and Spotify; all within various virtual desktops with multiple windows of chrome with as much as 70 tabs.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

-Don't play much games anymore. Maybe the occasional 4x title. These can generally run on integrated graphics.

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

-I'd like something that can last a long time and is durable. Hinges are usually the first thing to go out in laptops. Something that is comfortable to use is a must. I'm a relatively tall person so I want to avoid wrist pain. I appreciate a good keyboard and trackpad. Don't care for the other features much.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

-I currently have a laptop with an 8th gen Intel U-processor (i5-8250u), mx150, 16GB RAM and an SSD. It's not exactly slow but am still considering upgrading. The hinge is starting to give out. It'd be better before the resale value drops too much. Thoughts?

Some options currently in front of me are:

-M1 MacBook air (w/ student discount) [I have an iphone too, so there's a benefit there]

    -Lenovo ThinkBook 14 [Option 1 w/ Intel] [Option 2 w/ AMD]

I find laptops here in Taiwan are quite pricey compared to other markets. These are some reasonable deals that I have found. Another consideration I have is that the industry seems to be racing towards ARM. There's the option of waiting for next year (particularly for the rumored new macbook air). Thoughts?

    < 3000 USD; USA

    Posted: 28 Oct 2021 09:43 PM PDT

Hello! I'm looking to buy a new laptop, and I've been looking for recommendations because there are so many Windows laptops.

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

    • Less than 3000 USD
    • United States of America

    Are you open to refurbs/used?
    No

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

    Form factor:

    • I like the idea of a 2-in-1 a lot (with either a detachable display or a 360º hinge), but it's not needed. I'm open to a more traditional laptop form factor if it's beneficial. I'm cool with other unique form factor suggestions too, like the Asus Zenbook (Pro) Duo.

    Performance:

    • 32 GB of RAM (or more)
    • 1 TB NVMe SSD (or more)
    • See the usage section below for more information

    Battery life:

    • Ideally good enough for a day of light to medium use (no gaming) on one charge

How important is weight and thinness to you?

    • I carry my laptop with me every weekday, but I also carry a lot of other things so it does not need to be extremely light or thin.
    • I would like it to be < 0.8" thick and < 6 pounds.

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
    13" - 16"

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

    Usage:

    • General purpose use (web browsing, email, document and spreadsheet editing, etc.)
    • Some light to medium gaming (Minecraft with shaders, BeamNG.drive with multiple vehicles)
    • Coding (JetBrains IntelliJ IDEA) and some light to medium video editing (Adobe Premiere Pro) (though I doubt any of it is complex enough that a computer with the above specs wouldn't be able to handle it)

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

    • Minecraft: with shaders and with FPS at or above 60 (but preferably above the refresh rate of the display)
    • BeamNG.drive with multiple (6+) vehicles and with FPS at or above 60 (but preferably above the refresh rate of the display)
    • Potentially some other games in the future, such as Cities: Skylines

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

    • I would really like a touchscreen. I don't *need* it, but the other parts of the computer would need to be very compelling to forgo a touchscreen.
    • The computer should be Windows 11 capable/ready, though I imagine nearly all computers at this price range will be.
    • I would like multiple USB–C ports and preferably Thunderbolt 4, USB4, or Thunderbolt 3. I would also vastly prefer if the computer supports charging via USB power delivery.
    • It would be nice to have a high refresh rate display (nothing absurd, 120Hz is the maximum I need) and/or a nicer display technology, such as mini-LED or OLED, but a decent 60Hz LCD is acceptable if the other parts of the computer are compelling.
    • A great trackpad and good keyboard are always appreciated.
    • A fingerprint reader is a nice touch, but I have a USB–A fingerprint reader that works with Windows Hello lying around so it's not required. However, a laptop without a fingerprint reader should have at least one USB–A port for an external fingerprint reader.

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

    • Although I would usually consider an upgrade path, I won't use this computer for a long time (maximum of 3-4 years), so upgradability isn't a priority.

Thank you so much for your expertise!

Laptop for an engineering student ($1500 budget)

    Posted: 28 Oct 2021 05:32 PM PDT

Mechanical engineering to be specific. dk if that matters.

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
      $1500
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
      no
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Since its for uni I probably need good battery life and exceptional performance. I don't really have anything specific though, 2-in-1 would be nice but if its at the cost of a drop in performance there's no need.
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
not that important, just not too bulky
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
      15 or above
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
I don't really know what I need it for, but maybe some of you know more about engineering than I do. Casual gaming, so maybe some nice cooling
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
      preferably above 120 fps
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
I just don't want something with a notoriously bad keyboard. As I mentioned before, 2-in-1 would be good though not necessary if it as the cost of a performance drop
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
Nothing to put here, I think I mentioned everything

Stylus compatible laptop with DGPU ($2500 CAD)

    Posted: 28 Oct 2021 01:47 PM PDT

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

    $2500 CAD (Canada)

    Are you open to refurbs/used?

    No

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Build Quality >>> Form Factor (ultrabook / 2-in-1) > Battery Life > Performance

How important is weight and thinness to you?

Would highly prefer something that isn't thick or heavy.

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    15" or less

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Not really, but maybe a bit of video transcoding (ffmpeg with GPU acceleration)

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

League, 1080p @ 60fps highest settings (doesn't have to always hit 60, just "most of the time")

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Need stylus compatibility. Would prefer GPU that is on-par with a GTX 1650m. Replaceable SSD or 1TB SSD option. Looking for something that has good build quality and from a company with good QC.

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Something that isn't Lenovo. Current laptop is a Lenovo Yoga C940 15" (i7-9750H & GTX 1650 Max-Q), had it for just over a year and the battery is swollen and have had numerous issues with it failing to boot in the most inopportune times.

I'm probably looking for a unicorn here (especially with my budget and requirements), hoping for the best though.

Performance is the only thing I prioritize; the other options are not applicable.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

Not important, will be on my desk 99% of the time

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

No, but I do prefer a screen that's not going to be a strain on my eyes (also, I will be considering purchasing a monitor to go with the laptop regardless of size)

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

    Yes, gaming

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
    1. FFXIV
    2. New World
    3. Guild Wars 2
    4. I want to not lag, I want to play on high settings
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

None are a requirement as I use a full USB mechanical keyboard and gaming mouse.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

    1. I primarily want this new laptop to be my gaming laptop as the previous laptop I currently own, its graphics card is not up to par anymore with playing MMORPGs at high quality. I will be keeping my older laptop for business/work since it's definitely not deficient in that department. Just with MMORPGs, the graphic requirements are climbing and my changing eye sight doesn't like the low quality of the graphics anymore. So, it's time to get a new gaming rig.
    2. I want a laptop, if possible, to last me up to 4-5 years, like my last laptop, MSI GE72 GQD Apache Pro, which took care of everything for 5 years until now unfortunately; can't upgrade the graphics card. Already maxed out the RAM at 32 GB and upgraded storage to 2TB.
    3. Any help is appreciated. Thank you for your time in reading this.

Laptop for video editing for ~$500-600

    Posted: 28 Oct 2021 10:38 PM PDT

My uncle was using an old HP Pavillion G4 and it wasn't cutting it anymore until it died, he used it for video editing but didn't do anything "heavy" probably because the laptop couldn't handle that, he used Pinacle Studio but now i just told him about DaVinci Resolve and he might use this instead if it can work properly with a new laptop.

I was looking at the Dell Inspiron 15 3501 (i3501-5450BLK-PUS) with a i5-1135G7 and Intel Xe Graphics but i don't know if the Xe graphics can work with video editing.

I was also looking in Shopineer and found the ASUS Zenbook 14", Lenovo 15.6" IdeaPad Gaming 3, Asus Zenbook 14" with R5 5500U and Lenovo IdeaPad 3 81Y4001XUS but i think this isn't available anymore.

I don't know if there are better ones with better value.

    Laptop Choice Overload

    Posted: 28 Oct 2021 10:21 PM PDT

I'm looking to replace my Lenovo Yoga 920 (14") and have a budget of up to ~ 2500. Granted, the Yoga still runs absolutely fine but I've had it since 2017 and I'd kind of like to get an upgraded system, especially since it only has 8 GB of RAM and is not upgradable.

Primary use is a lot of Excel work for accounting and finance classes. Also, a lot of Word typing for papers, etc. Other than that, just a lot of web surfing, possible light gaming, Youtube, movies.

Ultimately my search is definitely hindered by supply and demand since it seems like Ryzen 7 CPUs and RTX 3060 and above are nearly impossible to find so here the models I'm considering so far:

    Macbook Pro 16" M1 Pro:

    • Pros: powerful, 120 hz screen, 16" screen, 16:10 ratio, insane SSD speed, speakers, efficiency/battery life, trackpad, Garageband

    • Cons: price, never had a Mac, way more of a machine than I need, not good for gaming, no USB-A

    Lenovo Legion 5i Pro - I7-11800H, 16 GB, RTX 3050, 16" 2560x1600 165hz (Costco)

    • Pros: Price, screen is lovely, 16:10, numpad for Excel, decent power, 165 hz

    • Cons: RTX 3050, huge power supply adapter, numpad shift keyboard/trackpad, heavy

    Dell Inspiron 16 Plus - I7-11800H, 16 GB, RTX3060, 1 TB

    • Pros: price, RTX3060, numpad, 16:10, 3072 x 1920

    • Cons: Dell quality control (possibly), 60 hz screen, numpad shifts trackpad to the left

    Lenovo ThinkPad 16p Gen 2 16" (AMD) - Ryzen 5600H, 16 GB, RTX3060

    • Pros: Decent price, 2560x1600, 16:10, numpad, calibrated screen

    • Cons: one DIMM soldered, 60 hz, only offered (currently) with 5600h, numpad shifts everything over

Possible Honorable Mention: Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro AMD 14" (Costco)

    • Pros: 16:10, excellent keyboard, great port selection, great price

    • Cons: Ryzen 5 5600U, 60 hz, 14" screen, integrated graphics

Not sure if there are others I should look at. I'm still open to suggestions. Possibly the XPS 15, but the price is quite a bit more than other Windows machines and it doesn't have the greatest port selection.

Do I need a 16" screen? No, but the extra real estate might be a bit nicer for split screen work, etc. (I still have to physically see the difference between MBP 14 & MBP 16

Do I need above 60 hz? No, but it would be enjoyable to step up to at least 120 hz.

Do I need a numpad? No, but as I mentioned, I do a ton of Excel work, but I could always get a bluetooth numpad.

Do I need that kind of power for my normal workflow? No, and I'm sure a 5600H would be more than adequate.

Sorry for the long post, but based on the ones I've already considered, does anyone have any suggestions for others I should be looking at in the same general spec/price ranges?

Sleek looking laptop for video editing ($3500 NZD max)

    Posted: 28 Oct 2021 09:53 PM PDT

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
Around $3500 NZD (New Zealand) max
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
      No
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Performance is the most important thing. Build quality and battery life are important to me but the top class for them is not essential. Form factor isn't important. I like the idea of 2-in-1 but I don't really care
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
As long as it's not especially heavy, weight isn't very important. Because I'm looking for a sleek looking laptop, thinness is pretty important. I don't like the bulky aesthetic of most gaming laptops
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
      15" is my ideal
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Video editing with premiere pro will be the primary purpose of the laptop. I may also do some gaming on the go with it but I have a PC for gaming so it's not very important
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Just pretty good quality overall. Touch screen, finger-print reader, and optical drive are all unimportant to me
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I'm currently just in university so it doesn't need to be super powerful, but I'm wanting to future proof a bit for when I do get into the film and TV industry and need more power. I've been looking a bit and at the moment and I'm interested in: HP Envy x360, HP Spectre x360, and Razer Blade 15 (I have found versions of all of them that are in my price range). But I'm no laptop expert so not sure about them. I'm looking for thoughts on those three as well as any other recommendations?

So I'm moving to college soon and I'm worried about carrying my heavy asf rtx laptop there. Should I risk it and take my bbgirl or should I just carry the lightweight alternative (non gaming pc) I have at home?

    2 in 1 laptop for 500-1000€?

    Posted: 28 Oct 2021 09:12 PM PDT

    • Total budget (In local currency) and country of purchase:

    500-1000€

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?

    Yes

    • How would you prioritize form factor, build quality, performance, and battery life?

Battery Life > Form Factor > Build Quality > Performance

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    N/A

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Programming (IDEs such as PyCharm, virtual boxes such as VirtualBox).

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

    No gaming.

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

I want a 2 in 1 laptop and be able to watch media with the keyboard hidden and to comfortably program while lying down.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I'd prefer a low-cost laptop since I will be doing all heavy tasks on my main PC. However, comfortability and lightness are very important.

Finally, if the laptop is able to run a Linux virtual machine without heating or making much noise while checking the other boxes, I'd be willing to spend extra on it.

    Thanks in advance!

Working Professional Needs Secret Gaming Laptop (USA; $1600 or less)

    Posted: 28 Oct 2021 11:02 AM PDT

I am a female university professor that secretly likes gaming (preferably, single-player open world games). I've never played them on a computer before. But since I can't get a PS5 and I need a new computer, I figured I'd try it out. I'm looking for a laptop that I can use for work (MS Office / online research databases), that can handle big games, and that won't out me as a gamer to my students. I don't know anything about computer innards, so no modifications. If its possible, I'd prefer something that looks sleek and is not too heavy, since I will be carrying it back and forth from the office.

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
      Max: $1600
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
      No
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
I probably don't know enough about computers to answer this properly. I don't want 2 in 1, but I want a computer that is good in all of the other categories. I want a quality laptop that won't be in the shop all the time, I need a good battery life (for work programs, not games), and I need it to perform well (incl. for zoom & accessing online databases).
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
I'd prefer it to be light and thin, but this is less important than performance and quality.
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
      14 - 16 inches
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
      no
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
Single player, open world games. I don't know anything about settings, but if it helps, my favorites are Witcher, Uncharted, and Zelda.
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
No. I will buy peripherals separately. I'd like enough ports and the ability to hook up to double screens, but can always grab a docking station if necessary.
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
Thanks for all of your help!

[US] Looking for a Work Laptop that Can Run Statistical Programs (~$800 or Less)

    Posted: 28 Oct 2021 07:31 PM PDT

I'm looking for a Windows laptop that I can use for work as a market research analyst.

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
Around $800 USD or less. Purchasing in the United States.
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
      No.
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
I would prioritize performance, then build quality, then battery life, then form factor. If it has good performance, I can get my work done faster. When travelling, I sometimes take my current laptop with me, so solid build quality is next most important. I use my current work laptop at my desk about 85% of the time and then move it around or take it on the go the other 15% of the time, so good battery life is nice, but not super important. I don't need 2-in-1 laptop.
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
Something relatively thin and light would make travelling with it easier.
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
15 inches is the sweet spot.
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
I'm mostly running statistical programs or answering emails. The programs I use most are Microsoft Excel, IBM SPSS, R, and Latent Gold.
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
I won't be doing any gaming.
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
I'd like something with a decent webcam since I'll be attending Zoom meetings with this. I use a second monitor with my current laptop, so I'd like at least one HDMI output.
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I think I've covered everything. Thanks in advance!
