Nitro 5 11400h battery life? Please share your experience. Posted: 29 Oct 2021 02:43 AM PDT So I am looking forward to buy nitro 5 with 11400h and 3050. But I am really concerned on how much battery life can I get from this laptop. Those who own a nitro 5 with 11400h (with any dgpu), how much battery life do you get for normal tasks like browsing or/and word typing etc. (basically very less powerful tasks)? Particularly looking to know the battery life with power saving mode on (dgpu off), keyboard backlight off, screen brightness down to comfortable levels and most importantly refresh rate lowered down to 60hz. A quick response will be highly appreciated because I have to make a decision in a couple of days. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 28 Oct 2021 05:31 PM PDT Can anyone recommend a good student/light gaming laptop? Budget: $1000 Screen: 15" (this is one of the most important factors for me) Battery life should be decent, at least four hours. I am not looking for a 2 in one or a convertible laptop, touchscreen is not a desirable feature for me. Backlit keyboard would be nice as well. When I say light gaming I mean it. I might play some TF2 or terraria on my PC, but that's about it. I would prefer a laptop that is not an Acer, and I have no preference as far as form factor. Mainly I just want a decent amount of ram/SSD and a fast CPU (preferably i7 equivalent or better) so my laptop can last me through a few years of school. As far as RAM goes, upgradability is a plus. Please let me know your suggestions! [link] [comments] |

Starting college soon and need help! Posted: 29 Oct 2021 12:04 AM PDT Hello all, I need help deciding which macbook m1 to get. I have a buddy willing to sell me an m1 macbook pro 8, 512 for $1k and that's some good savings. I want a 16, 512 cuz of that extra ram but I don't know if I need it that much since I've never owned a MacBook before. I'm willing to spend up to 1700 for the one I want but if I don't need it then I'm not going to spend it. Also m1 air 16, 512 is like 1300 and that seems pretty good also. Should I take the savings and buy the one from my buddy or get the air or pro 16, 512? My major is network and system administration. I plan on having it plugged into an ultrawide when home. I do not do any video or photo editing, it will be strictly used for college and leisure. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Help me choose which laptop to buy Posted: 29 Oct 2021 03:43 AM PDT Hi guys, I want to buy a new laptop but I don't know what to choose. I'm writing here because maybe someone experienced can help me in my research. I have a budget of 700-900€. Im a student so I don't have that many particular needs, the only requirement is to be able to play valorant on it and use Adobe premiere Pro for my video editing passion. That's all! Thanks for your help. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Oct 2021 11:10 PM PDT So I just updated my 2015 MacBook pro to the most recent MacOS and that good old "planned obsolescence" slowing down has started and I am starting to look for a new laptop. I'm an engineering student, so I would like to make the switch to a PC so that I can do more CAD and other things. However, I really like the feel of apple laptops. I am comfortable with windows, so its more of a physical similarity that I am looking for. I just feel like every non-Apple laptop I find feels bulky and plastic. Is there anything out there that has a more sleek feel? LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
CAD for sure. Usually SOLIDWORKS. I dabble in the other things listed for fun. So while it would be an extra perk to have something that I can video edit and make digital art on, the engineering career related stuff is the most important.

Posted: 29 Oct 2021 02:12 AM PDT Hi, I am looking for good student laptop for under 700 dollars. Cpu power isn't my most important part as it wont be used for anything heavy resource intensive. You could say it would be used a bit more than web browsing Ram: Would be great to have 16 GBs as multitasking is somewhat required (I guess 8gb would be about enough but I wouldn't want to risk it) Storage: I think every laptop now has SSD so anything in range of 256+ GBs In terms of screen: I would prefer IPS screen, nothing fancy needed Battery life is the most important thing to me and that is the main reason for posting here. I need something that can last 5-6 hours of screentime (light use) I would prefer for it not to have OS as it is often paid extra for it and I would install Linux anyways. Thank you in advance guys! Laptop for Graduate School. Deciding between a few options... (Taiwan) Posted: 29 Oct 2021 01:53 AM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
~$28,000 NTD (Taiwan). Can be flexible based on deals and value
-Yes, but I am wary of them.
-Build quality (I want longevity), performance, battery life/form factor
-I take my laptop everyday to class. My current laptop is 2.4kg so to have anything lighter would be great.
-I have a 15.6in now. I think a 14in would be perfect but I'm not too picky.
-I am applying for grad school and am looking to be involved in economics/finance. Currently for me, this involves using R & Stata. I am possibly going to study Information Systems which involves some programming. For general use and research, I generally run MS office apps (PowerPoint/Word), MS teams, MS OneNote, and Spotify; all within various virtual desktops with multiple windows of chrome with as much as 70 tabs.
-Don't play much games anymore. Maybe the occasional 4x title. These can generally run on integrated graphics.
-I'd like something that can last a long time and is durable. Hinges are usually the first thing to go out in laptops. Something that is comfortable to use is a must. I'm a relatively tall person so I want to avoid wrist pain. I appreciate a good keyboard and trackpad. Don't care for the other features much.
-I currently have a laptop with an 8th gen Intel U-processor (i5-8250u), mx150, 16GB RAM and an SSD. It's not exactly slow but am still considering upgrading. The hinge is starting to give out. It'd be better before the resale value drops too much. Thoughts? Some options currently in front of me are: -M1 MacBook air (w/ student discount) [I have an iphone too, so there's a benefit there] -Lenovo ThinkBook 14 [Option 1 w/ Intel] [Option 2 w/ AMD] I find laptops here in Taiwan are quite pricey compared to other markets. These are some reasonable deals that I have found. Another consideration I have is that the industry seems to be racing towards ARM. There's the option of waiting for next year (particularly for the rumored new macbook air). Thoughts? [link] [comments] |

Battery life does not matter either. Want to be able to run simple games on performance settings (CS:GO, Rocket League). Thanks to anyone who helps out.

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Something that isn't Lenovo. Current laptop is a Lenovo Yoga C940 15" (i7-9750H & GTX 1650 Max-Q), had it for just over a year and the battery is swollen and have had numerous issues with it failing to boot in the most inopportune times. I'm probably looking for a unicorn here (especially with my budget and requirements), hoping for the best though. [link] [comments] |

$2000 USD, United States
No
Performance is the only thing I prioritize; the other options are not applicable.
Not important, will be on my desk 99% of the time
No, but I do prefer a screen that's not going to be a strain on my eyes (also, I will be considering purchasing a monitor to go with the laptop regardless of size)
Yes, gaming
None are a requirement as I use a full USB mechanical keyboard and gaming mouse.

Laptop for video editing for ~$500-600 Posted: 28 Oct 2021 10:38 PM PDT My uncle was using an old HP Pavillion G4 and it wasn't cutting it anymore until it died, he used it for video editing but didn't do anything "heavy" probably because the laptop couldn't handle that, he used Pinacle Studio but now i just told him about DaVinci Resolve and he might use this instead if it can work properly with a new laptop. I was looking at the Dell Inspiron 15 3501 (i3501-5450BLK-PUS) with a i5-1135G7 and Intel Xe Graphics but i don't know if the Xe graphics can work with video editing. I was also looking in Shopineer and found the ASUS Zenbook 14", Lenovo 15.6" IdeaPad Gaming 3, Asus Zenbook 14" with R5 5500U and Lenovo IdeaPad 3 81Y4001XUS but i think this isn't available anymore. I don't know if there are better ones with better value. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Oct 2021 10:21 PM PDT I'm looking to replace my Lenovo Yoga 920 (14") and have a budget of up to ~ 2500. Granted, the Yoga still runs absolutely fine but I've had it since 2017 and I'd kind of like to get an upgraded system, especially since it only has 8 GB of RAM and is not upgradable. Primary use is a lot of Excel work for accounting and finance classes. Also, a lot of Word typing for papers, etc. Other than that, just a lot of web surfing, possible light gaming, Youtube, movies. Ultimately my search is definitely hindered by supply and demand since it seems like Ryzen 7 CPUs and RTX 3060 and above are nearly impossible to find so here the models I'm considering so far: Macbook Pro 16" M1 Pro:
Lenovo Legion 5i Pro - I7-11800H, 16 GB, RTX 3050, 16" 2560x1600 165hz (Costco)
Dell Inspiron 16 Plus - I7-11800H, 16 GB, RTX3060, 1 TB
Lenovo ThinkPad 16p Gen 2 16" (AMD) - Ryzen 5600H, 16 GB, RTX3060
Possible Honorable Mention: Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro AMD 14" (Costco)
Not sure if there are others I should look at. I'm still open to suggestions. Possibly the XPS 15, but the price is quite a bit more than other Windows machines and it doesn't have the greatest port selection. Do I need a 16" screen? No, but the extra real estate might be a bit nicer for split screen work, etc. (I still have to physically see the difference between MBP 14 & MBP 16 Do I need above 60 hz? No, but it would be enjoyable to step up to at least 120 hz. Do I need a numpad? No, but as I mentioned, I do a ton of Excel work, but I could always get a bluetooth numpad. Do I need that kind of power for my normal workflow? No, and I'm sure a 5600H would be more than adequate. Sorry for the long post, but based on the ones I've already considered, does anyone have any suggestions for others I should be looking at in the same general spec/price ranges? [link] [comments] |

Programming (IDEs such as PyCharm, virtual boxes such as VirtualBox).
No gaming.
I'd prefer a low-cost laptop since I will be doing all heavy tasks on my main PC. However, comfortability and lightness are very important. Finally, if the laptop is able to run a Linux virtual machine without heating or making much noise while checking the other boxes, I'd be willing to spend extra on it. Thanks in advance! Working Professional Needs Secret Gaming Laptop (USA; $1600 or less) Posted: 28 Oct 2021 11:02 AM PDT I am a female university professor that secretly likes gaming (preferably, single-player open world games). I've never played them on a computer before. But since I can't get a PS5 and I need a new computer, I figured I'd try it out. I'm looking for a laptop that I can use for work (MS Office / online research databases), that can handle big games, and that won't out me as a gamer to my students. I don't know anything about computer innards, so no modifications. If its possible, I'd prefer something that looks sleek and is not too heavy, since I will be carrying it back and forth from the office.
