Is it what the extra money

Is it what the extra money

Is it what the extra money

    Posted: 30 Sep 2021 11:25 PM PDT

I'm thinking of buying an Asus Vivo S15. I'm going back and forth between ASUS VivoBook M513UA which cost £499 and an ASUS VivoBook S 15 - S513EA Which cost £ 599, the only difference I've seen between the two is that the ASUS VivoBook M513UA comes with (AMD Ryzen 5-5500U, 8GB RAM) and it's CPU speed is 2.1GHz while the ASUS VivoBook S 15 - S513EA comes with (Intel Quad Core i5-1135G7, 16GB RAM) and the CPU is 4.2GHz

I'm primarily buying it as a computing science student in year 2, so I would be coding and doing some projects and I'm definitely going to have multiple chrome tabs open, I also what to be able to do some casual gaming in my down time, I'm not a heavy gammer ( I want to be able to run games like apex or rocket league) and will also be streaming movies on it.

So my main question is the extra £100 worth it or should I stick with the M513UA

Edit: here's the link for the laptops the m513 https://www.amazon.co.uk/VivoBook-7-5700U-Backlit-Keyboard-Windows/dp/B08CR1HR2Y?th=1&psc=1 the S523EA https://www.amazon.co.uk/VivoBook-7-5700U-Backlit-Keyboard-Windows/dp/B08CKXSM6J?th=1&psc=1

Looking for a better performing laptop

    Posted: 30 Sep 2021 07:52 PM PDT

Update to clarify: I'm not against Dell laptops, I just need something better than the one I had previously.

I am needing to replace a Dell Inspiron that just didn't cut it for work with battery life, storage, or performance. It was constantly breaking down or having some type of charging issue.

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
    $1500 USD

    Are you open to refurbs/used?
Only if they are in pristine condition.

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Performance and battery life are important. As a creator and a high school teacher, battery life needs to be pretty good.

How important is weight and thinness to you?
They are not entirely important. I don't want to carry a ten pound rock to work every day, but I can deal.

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
A 15 inch screen or larger is fine, but nothing smaller.

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
I do a lot of photography, design, and editing, so I need to be able to run Adobe Creative Cloud. Especially Photoshop, Lightroom, and InDesign.

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
Not a gamer, just an avid Creative Cloud user.

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
I definitely need a touchscreen. That is one thing I'm not willing to live without. I also would like to have a backlit keyboard and a large amount of storage. An SD card reader would be very nice, too, but it is not a deal breaker if it doesn't.

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I need a laptop that allows me to teach, grade papers, etc in my classroom without having to run to plug it up every hour or so. I also need something that will do well with my photography and design programs. Please, no MacBooks; those do not work well with my school system's set up or my brain.

$800-1000 budget | Need a touch screen laptop for light use.

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 05:28 AM PDT

Budget $800-$1000 for a new machine. No refurbs or used please.

Use: mostly for school. A young child will be using it also which is why I need a touch screen. A 2 in 1 would be even better but I know that increases the cost and fragility. Very light gaming use. Fortnite will be the most straining game played.

For the most part it's just gonna be standard use stuff. Browsing the web, writing papers, etc.

Build quality should be decent enough to handle a childs use.

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

    laptop around 800-1000 usd

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 03:02 AM PDT

gaming won't be necessary. but i won't say no to a dedicated gpu. cpu must be at least 4/8. screen size must be 15.6 or higher with ips panel and 1080p resolution. i also like non glossy and flicker-free screens. refresh rate should be at least 120hz. keyboard must have led so i can see it in dark. for build quality i dont look for the best one but average is ok, this is also valid for battery life.

another important part for me is: cooling of the device. fan shouldn't sound noisy even at higher speeds, but it shouldn't need higher speeds in the first place while doing daily tasks (using chrome etc.) so it should be quiet at lower speeds too. also i want a undervoltable cpu but if cooling and fan noise isn't really an issue i might pass on this.

Same old requirements: Good performance, good battery life and under a budget.

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 02:04 AM PDT

The usage will be pretty usual, but I'm getting into very beginner video production, and I will be programming quite a bit. I have heard for these things Ryzen 5500U or something along the lines would be good, but I leave that up to you.

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

600 USD (Could go a little bit higher, but not by much)

    Are you open to refurbs/used?

Only if good quality can be assured.

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Build quality, Battery life, Performance (I don't need amazing performance, as I won't be gaming or anything, just light video/photo editing. Battery life and build quality are important because I'll be going to university soon).

How important is weight and thinness to you?

Not very important. As long as it is fairly portable, I can carry around something a little heavy as well.

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

13.3" or 14" would be the best, as I will need to carry it around.

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

A bit of video and photo editing. Mostly it would be Krita, Kdenlive, GIMP, etc.

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

    No gaming requirements whatsoever.

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

I will require a good keyboard because I will be programming, and a backlit keyboard. If possible (I know it is a tight budget), I would like 12 or 16 GB RAM because I've heard that for video editing 8 may not be enough. I'll also watch a lot of movies, so a good display would be nice.

I was previously looking at the Asus Zenbook 5500U, 8GB RAM with MX450. It had a 67WHr battery. It checked every box, but then I saw in some reviews that it gets really really hot. I require something along those lines, but not something that would roast me.

Thank you already for the help.

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

    £600

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?

Preferably new but don't mind Grade A and above

    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Performance is a must, need for gaming, streaming and work. Battery life that can handle a few hours of gaming would be nice.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

Don't care about the weight, don't mind it being thick as long as it's not really really bulky.

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    Between 14 to 16 inches

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Games wise I would like it to handle games smoothly such as world war z, hit man 3 and days gone.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

    60fps is the bare minimum

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

A webcam is required, 2+ USB ports, need the storage 512gb+, preferably a dedicated graphics card

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

If I haven't left enough information, my apologies. I'm not particularly good with these sorts of things. I'm currently using Asus VivoBook 14 as my gaming pc. It's doing good but I need something better. It's unable to handle games like hit man 3 and mortal kombat x, and in most games, they have to be ran at a lower quality.

My current laptop is dogwater and I need something that's a bit more powerful, I need it to run browsers, documents, and file extractors fast. I need it for school, if the price range I gave is too cheap, suggest something higher like 350 or 400, I also play video games from time to time, so I need it to be able to run games from the 2000's era, new games today aren't fun for me. I also forgot the admin password for my current laptop so I'm buying a new one to install steam on it.

I have a 3k budget to purchase a work laptop. Windows / PC is a must. I used to use Thinkpads for work and am comfortable with them, but open to hear what else is out there. Any experiences with Thinkpad Nano? what's the coolest thing I can get w 3k?

Multipurpose laptop for variety of users- USA

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE ***Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: *willing to go to 1500 usd, not really, but if I have to but would prefer staying under 1100 usd

***Are you open to refurbs/used? No

***How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? *Performance and build quality

***How important is weight and thinness to you? not important

***Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 12" to 15"

***Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. *Photo editing programs, Adobe creative cloud, other drawing programs, Runescape, roblox, various steam games, sims

***If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? *Runescape, sims, steam games, roblox

***Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? *Good build quality is a must since someone rage quits occasionally and the other user, the artist, might inadvertently damage it during a medical episode. A touch screen would be nice for the artist, but not a deal breaker, but they will need a good display for colors. Also, it will occasionally be on laps instead of sitting on the desk and i might suffer burns if it gets overheated so decent cooling is a must. I won't feel the heat due to sci but I will suffer the effects. Would be nice if the keyboard is backlit.

***Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. *Essentially I need a laptop that will be used among the family. It will be used for school, visual and digital artistry, gaming, menial office tasks, and entertainment. I can only afford the one and it has to accommodate various users.

Video editing laptop that can be hard wired (USA)

    Posted: 30 Sep 2021 07:33 PM PDT

Hi I am seeking a laptop that can be hard wired and wifi disabled, main use is internet browsing but I might want to edit some videos on there

$2,000 USD, preferably around $1,000 I guess but it doesn't matter

    Refurbished is okay

    Would prioritize performance

No weight restriction, can be as large as needed

    Largest screen size preferred

I use sony vegas to edit my videos

Might actually play league of legends now that I think about it (if I want to have a stroke)

    Would prefer something reliable
