2 different computers shutdown after a while after CMOS change battery Posted: 02 Oct 2021 01:57 PM PDT I have an old dual core computer showing CMOS battery error on boot, so I take a new battery and change it. After that, PC shuts down after a short while, sometimes it doesn't even reach Windows boot. I tried a couple of different batterys, even the old one, and the problem remains. This never happened before. On the other hand, today I was working with an old Pentium IV PC, and I need to reset BIOS values, so I removed the battery and put it back again, and now I have the same problem with this computer: It shuts down after a while. What could be the problem? [link] [comments]

Help. Scammers got into my mom's computer Posted: 01 Oct 2021 03:34 PM PDT So my mom was almost scammed. I believe they did access her computer remotely based on what she has told me. She is running Windows 7. She's had the computer turned off since this happened. I'm here trying to run antivirus, malware scans etc. When we turned the computer on, it's asking for a Windows 7 password. She does not have a disk or anything. Someone built this computer for her years ago. She says it's never asked for the password before. The password hint makes no sense. She shuts her computer down each time she uses it. My thought was to go into safe mode and try to restore everything to the day before the scammers accessed it all. I'm not exactly tech savvy. But I'm smart. So hopefully I can do this with some guidance so she doesn't have to take the computer somewhere. Based on Google searching, it advised pressing and holding F8 at start up. That does nothing. I was able to press either F10 or F2. I'm now in the system set-up. That's as far as I've gotten. Can anyone give guidance? [link] [comments]
Any way of fource flashing BIOS via USB on lenovo x1yoga? Posted: 01 Oct 2021 03:04 PM PDT Hello. In result of recent BIOS and intel ME firmware update, my device do not power down completely anymore. I have to turn it off fourcefully after windows shuts down, by pressing the lenovo reset button. That's why, I want to downgrade my BIOS first, using any fource flashing method or some sourt of recovery mode. I read some guides about other lenovo machines supports recovery via USB, Can someone guide me about the procedure of the same on x1yoga 2nd gen? Which tool should I need, how to create the BIOS recovery media, and then How to initiate fource flashing/recovery from that USB? [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Oct 2021 04:44 PM PDT I have a laptop running Windows 10. For some reason, my laptop won't connect to my mom's WiFi but it connects to other WiFi networks just fine. Also other devices in the house have no problem connecting to the WiFi either yet I'm the only one having trouble. It's getting pretty annoying since I'm forced to use the hotspot on my phone if I need to connect to the internet. I tried going into the Network and Sharing center to manually connect to the network and I was actually able to get a connection once, but I've tried it again and it doesn't work. Can anyone help me fix this problem? I've already tried updating the drivers and that hasn't fixed anything. [link] [comments] |
