How risky is it to download a build (from insider program) for the purpose of using a CPU emulator? Posted: 19 Sep 2021 07:36 PM PDT A specific build on WiP has the ability to emulate a x64 intel processor (my computer is ARM based). I really need that emulator to run a program I need (can't afford a new computer). How risky is it to do this? Edit: ARM-based [link] [comments]

Best wireless/Bluetooth earbuds for Android/Windows devices? Posted: 19 Sep 2021 07:57 AM PDT Hey all, I'm looking into getting my first set of wireless (Bluetooth) earbuds. Most of my devices are Android or Windows-operating. Which products can you recommend? I'm looking to spend around $100-150 or so, so nothing terribly expensive. I wouldn't consider myself an audiophile. I'll mostly being using this for entertainment (music/streaming) but also work-related things, like lectures and conferences. Some brands I've considered are Bose, Sony, and Apple. I'm leaning toward Bose or Sony because I don't have many Apple products to take advantage of all the features of the AirPods. I'm open to suggestions though. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 Sep 2021 05:23 AM PDT DISCLAIMER: I'm 14 and I don't know a whole lot about computers so forgive me if I'm wrongfounded. A few months ago I gave my new laptop to the IT department of my school, where they said they'd set up my school details on my computer. They didn't however mention that they would hook it up to their domain, and set up an app called net control 2. From my experience, this app has been on basically every school computer I have used and it is used on them to monitor, restrict and even remotely block and shut down the screens. By this I mean my teacher would literally turn off my computer from the click of a button, or restrict certain apps/settings and basically spy on what I was doing. I didn't think too much into it, after all it isn't my computer and is therefore somewhat reasonable. But on my personal computer? Not only this, but the app cant even be uninstalled without the net control login, even as admin. It is literally permanent on my computer. I have managed a workaround, but I don't care if this is legal or not because it is wrong. Let me know what you think. [link] [comments]
From what version can i update to windows 10 without a new key Posted: 19 Sep 2021 09:52 AM PDT From what version of windows (like windows 8 etc) can i upgrade to windows 10 without a new key. Its because my school (one i'm going to)might need soon a operating system and dont have money for windows 10 keys so i just want to use a old exploitable key to upgrade to 10. Ubuntu is and other Linux distros dont support all software that we need. [link] [comments]
Building a Windows 7 PC what you think? Posted: 19 Sep 2021 12:49 AM PDT Hello friends The plan is to have a PC running Windows 7 strictly for music production. It won't even connect to the internet (that way hackers can't steal my jams). I bought some parts already but I have may have made a mistake with compatibility. What are your thoughts?

Evaluation copy of windows shutting down after an hour (only after an update) Posted: 18 Sep 2021 09:28 PM PDT I am using the windows HyperV image for some dev work and it was working fine until I did a windows update to the image and now it is shutting down every hour. My guess is these images should not be updated, can someone confirm this? cheers Yudi [link] [comments]
Telling Windows to Cache a Specific Folder on RAM? Posted: 18 Sep 2021 10:21 PM PDT One of the programs I use seems to be bottlenecked by my (somewhat dated) SSD when opening files. Seems to load much quicker with a RAM drive and I'm wondering if there's a way to do essentially the same thing with caching. [link] [comments]
Windows trying to make me update Posted: 19 Sep 2021 09:59 AM PDT

Posted: 18 Sep 2021 10:39 PM PDT I just bought a new windows laptop ( https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-14-0-laptop-intel-celeron-n4020-4gb-memory-64gb-emmc-star-black-star-black/6449519.p?skuId=6449519 ) after my Chromebook crapped out, and I was curious whether or not I could wipe Windows 10 and install XP instead. I realize that's highly unlikely, so I'm not holding my breath. I'm just looking for a system where I can play Win 95-Win XP games and use Office XP as well. I don't need online functionality at all. I grew up learning to use XP at school and I miss the simplicity, no need for all the extra bells and whistles. While I'd love to boot directly into XP without using a virtual machine, I can accept if that's not an option. So, what exactly are my options? If pure XP on the system is possible, what steps do I need to take? Or do I just need to set up a VM and install the software I want onto that? [link] [comments] |
