Advice needed! Worried new setup was a waste, low fps warzone

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 06:32 PM PDT

Problem: Recently upgraded gpu and cpu from 5600xt (PowerColor red dragon) to 6700 XT(AMD reference model) and 3600 to 5600x respectively. After a couple days of use, my 5600x runs at pretty high temps (~75-85 with stock cooler) on Warzone, but I've read that these temps are normal for my cpu. I've seen a good increase in performance in multiplayer, and on other games like battlefield I'm getting pretty good performance. But for Warzone I get an average of 80 FPS at 1080p resolution (graphics settings all low) which is about 30 fps off of even my old gpu/cpu combo. I've seen multiple videos of people getting much higher frame rates with my combo at even 1440p. My gpu util seems normal, and my cpu util stays around 70% in game (which I don't know if is normal).

My Thoughts: I double checked my XMP profile (2x8 @ 3200), and now I'm wondering if my 550W PSU just isn't cutting it anymore, if my motherboard needs to be upgraded (pls no) or if something else is the problem. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Another problem recently arose also where I get a beep code from my motherboard on startup indicating that there is a dram refresh error, but my ram is recognized by my computer. Could this be part of it?

On a side note, I can't seem to get smart access memory to enable even though both the 6700 xt and 5600x are recognized by Radeon.

    full specs are as follows

    MOBO: asrock B450M steel legend

    Ram: 2x8gb Ballistix @ 3200

    Cpu: r5 5600x

Cpu cooler: stock wraith cooler from 5600x

    Gpu: rx 6700 xt

    PSU: evga 550w

Edit: I'm overwhelmed by the support and suggestions! Thanks so much for everyone's ideas and input, I'm starting to see improvements :) Great experience on this thread

The worst part about building a pc is waiting for the parts to arrive.

It's my first time I'm nervous I won't have enough headers to connect my cases USB's to my mobo.

    Mobo screws missing...

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 04:51 PM PDT

So I'm starting to build a new setup and my 4000D case has stand offs for the Mobo but neither the case or Mobo (Asus x570-plus) came with screws that I can see. Am I screwed? (sadly, no pun intended.)

Can I be scammed while meeting up with someone?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 10:15 AM PDT

So I know the title sounds like a dumb question, but let me give you the details. I'm meeting up with someone to buy a 3060, he hasn't opened it at all so it still has store wrapping on it. He can't have swapped it out because it hasn't been opened and he can't ship me a different item because we're meeting up. I guess i'm just paranoid because he's selling it to me for msrp.

    PC is underperforming

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 07:09 PM PDT

I have an RTX 3080 paired with a Ryzen 7 5800x and I have had problems since I built my pc. I play 1440p and my fps is already always lower than what I see others brag about, but on top of that I have massive frame drops pretty often. My computer also tends to crash when I play demanding games such as Warzone. My CPU also gets to 80 - 90 c with 30 percent usage. If you can help me in any way that would be appreciated. If you would like any additional information let me know.

Additional Info: I have a fully custom loop pc, this is my second ryzen 7 5800x, the first one i got replaced by amd for heating issues and the second one they sent me came with a bent pin which i simply corrected, i wouldve sent it back but i was in need of a pc and did not want to wait 2 weeks or more for AMD

Also this is not my first pc, i dont believe this is a building error by me. im hoping that someone can help me with a more in depth solution

    Decent cheap case fans

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 06:50 PM PDT

Jesus h Christ case fans are so expensive. I want some decent fans that are good quality and relatively quiet, and preferably under 10 bucks a piece. The only ones I see for that price are up here fans, which I have no idea if they're decent or not.

So the question is, is it possible to get quiet and good fans for that price, or do I just have to bite the bullet and accept the price for what it is.

EDIT: I'm from Canada. Checked some us sites and wow they are so much cheaper there. It's not just lower price because of the USD-CAD difference; they are just less money overall. So Canada has expensive fans. I'd happily pay the us fan prices converted to cad, but those prices don't exist here...

    Is 6 exhaust fans overkill?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 10:49 PM PDT

I'm rearranging my fans a bit after needing to replace my AIO. I'm running in a CM SL600M and intend to bottom mount my new rad. The intake fans on the case are 2 200mm fans on the bottom.

Would it be overkill to install 6 120mm exhaust fans at the top of the case?

    3070 TI or 6800 XT

Will a $250 dollar gap justify an upgrade from the 3070 ti to the 6800xt?

Is there a technical or practical reason there aren’t monitors with ALL the features? (E.g. curved, high refresh, 4K)

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 09:51 PM PDT

I've been casually looking at monitors, mostly used, for a few months now. It seems that there are kind of three classes, mostly, that they fall into -

    1. Run of the mill, say 24 or 27" and 1080, relatively lower refresh
    2. Gaming monitors with high refresh (120 Hz eg)
    3. 4K or at least 1440p monitors, maybe more often with IPS
    4. Curved

There are plenty of variations of course, but I haven't really seen any that are, say, 4K, IPS, 27-32", high Hz / low ms, and have I forgotten any major features.

I know that everything costs money, so maybe that is part of it. Is there just not enough real benefit to be gained from all of the bells and whistles at once? Too small of a market maybe? Of course the more pixels and faster refresh, the more GPU you need to take advantage of it.

I guess I'm trying to understand this to make a good choice for when I upgrade, and need to decide which use case is best for me. Part of me wants to just get the bestest with the most features, etc., but maybe that wouldn't really help. (I have dual older 24" 1080p Viewsonics right now, on a 1050 Ti. Any upgrade would be more for the "nice to have" factor more than anything.)

    Thanks!

GPU and CPU get low only when I play something

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 08:13 PM PDT

I don't know how to explain this but in the main menu of battlefield 1 my CPU and GPU are running at normal usage % but when I actually get into a game they go down from 100 to 40 (GPU) and the CPU goes from 40 to 30? I don't understand this? Why does it lower specifically when I need it to be high?

Edit: specs rx 580, ryzen 7 1700, 16gb ram Everything was normal yesterday and I was averaging 90 FPS now I average 30 with low usages

PC shuts off randomly - mostly while gaming

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 09:03 PM PDT

Built a pc in December of 2019 and recently, it's been completely shutting off (no bsod, no freezes, it's as if you pull the plug out of the pc basically).

It's not the temps, as my GPU is running at around 70 degrees (max temperature for this GPU is 85) and my CPU is chilling around 50-65 degrees in games.

I figured maybe for some reason, my computer is drawing more power than it can handle so I downloaded OCCT and I ran a PSU benchmark for 10 minutes and the computer handled it fine? I also ran benchmarks on the GPU, as maybe the GPU was having issues but those also ran fine..

I'm starting to think maybe the PSU is shutting off as it's overheating? I've made no changes to this computer since I built it back in 2019 so maybe the PSU is starting to die already? Any extra tips to diagnose this issue would be appreciated.

    Edit: nothing is overclocked.

    Specs:

    Ryzen 5 2600X

    ASUS Prime B450M-A/CSM

My RTX 3070's Fan Curve Is Disobeying Me

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 07:04 AM PDT

In this situation, my RTX 3070FE would normally reach 65 degrees, fan speed would be around 55%, and we could all have fun and relax. However, and I don't know what changed, reaching 60 degrees C now warrants the fan speed hitting 75% as if 60 degrees C is some dangerous temperature. I use MSI Afterburner to turn the fan speed down to 55%, and it works for a few minutes with no dangerous temperatures, then the 3070FE disobeys its master and inexplicably ramps back up to 75% fan speed. I tried using MSI Afterburner to edit the actual fan curve for something optimized for quiet, and instead, it's just locked at 75% fan speed. IK I'm using Afterburner correctly because it worked in the past, why has my GPU developed this rebellious nature and what can I do to bring it back to its sedate nature? I don't want to have to debate the ethics of neutering it with myself.

As a side note: Setting fan speed to 55% cause it to ramp to 75-79% for some reason, and then setting back to auto sets fan speed to......30%. This Afterburner weirdness (possibly a glitch) still doesn't explain why, without afterburner, 60 degrees causes high fan speeds.

Swapped PC Case, No longer get a display

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 10:54 PM PDT

    Hi Guys,

I tried a PC case swap today and it didn't go so well. Everything was working prior to moving components to the new case. Once I put everything together, I get no display showing. Not sure if I shorted anything because the standoffs on the new case were brass. I tightly secured everything before powering on the pc. Any assistance/advice would be greatly appreciated.

My Pre-built PC i bought from HP.

    HP ENVY 750xt Desktop PC.
    •500W Power supply.
    •4th Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790K processor quad-core [4.0GHz, 8MB Shared Cache]
    •Windows 10 Home 64-bit OS.
•6GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 980Ti [DL DVI-I, HDMI, DP, DP, DP]
    • HP Kaili MS-7826 Ver 2.0 Motherboard.
    https://imgur.com/a/pxGAmzA

    •New Case: Apevia Genesis.

I have unplugged everything and started from scratch breadboard style. CPU was never removed due it being prebuilt. The motherboard seem to only have 1 Led and it is always green when I power the PC up.

    • Paper clip test on PSU, fan spins fine.
    • With CPU, Mobo, PSU, RAM, and Monitor, fan spins at 100%, no display.
    • Reset CMOS, still no display.
    • Checked for bent connectors, didn't see any.

    Thank you.

    What case is this?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 10:49 PM PDT

I bought this about 2 months ago and the psu finally gave out. Found out it's a Apevia 800w and the stuff they make is usually bad. So I'm just trying to figure out the case so I can buy one that fits, also looking for PSU recommendations.

I have the specs from the link so is it possible to go lower than 800w ? I just need something of good quality

Slightly stripped screw on 3080 FE

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 10:49 PM PDT

Once I got the first screw covers off of the backplate I started loosening the Torx screws and the second one was tightened more than the first, and I couldn't get it to untighten and eventually stripped. I tried one more time and didn't work, so I decided to stop before it was too late. There is still a little bit of the grip on the screw but I don't want to risk it until I have a plan. Are there any ways to loosen it without using an electric screwdriver or tapping a bit with a hammer?

EDIT: head of the screw was stripped, not the threads

    iRacing PC

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 10:48 PM PDT

here is a pc build for iRacing (sim racing game) I have come up with using the internet and other peoples opinions. I am looking to use the pc to play iRacing on max, or close to, max settings. Could anyone tell me if this is good or if there is anything i should change. Note: The GPU is a custom part, so you will have to follow the think to see the price and stuff.

AIO recommendation? (Is the Castle 360EX good?)

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 10:36 PM PDT

I'm currently looking to buy a 360mm AIO and I need some recommendations on which one to buy.

The current one I'm looking at buying is the Deepcool Castle 360EX, It's 360mm, the price is pretty good, a lot of reviews also say it's good and I overall like the design. If there are any other AIO's that are similar to these specs, please let me know so I can take a look, if not, is the Castle 360EX a good choice?

I'm mainly buying one because I'm sick of the cooler I have right now and also for aesthetics.
