    Phone stolen. Question Android Help

    Phone stolen. Question Android Help

    Phone stolen. Question

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 11:59 AM PDT

My old android phone was stolen. Was stupid and had the passcode turned off on it. When I realized what had happened I went into google and signed out of device.

If gmail app was still on there and device signed out, are the emails stored locally on device and available to view even after signed out??

Or if the thief opens gmail will it now prompt for login before showing any emails?

    Unsure of how that works…

If thief had put device in airplane mode and it never got "signed out", could they theoretically still open gmail and have access to all emails?

Tested on my current phone, switched airplane mode on, opened gmail app and all old emails were there…

Forcibly install apps on SD card on Galaxy A20?

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 03:55 PM PDT

I just bought an SD card for my phone, only to learn that Samsung has disabled the ability to install apps to an SD card and disabled the ability to adopt an SD card as internal storage. I've found some tutorials online explaining how to re-enable those features using developer mode and Android Debug Bridge and etc., but they've either gone over my head or haven't worked. Could I possibly get some help with this? I'm a total newbie when it comes to modifying a phone like this.

SOLVED! There's an toggle in the developer options called "force allow apps on external" that does exactly what it says on the tin. IDK why all the answers I found online were so overcomplicated...

Is there something like vnc server for my android phone ?

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 09:01 PM PDT

Preferably VNC unless it's something significantly better, all my computers have vnc servers and that works great.

And would it be accessible at any time or would I need to log in, start the app and then connect ? (that would not be great but better than nothing. Alternatively, if that is the case, is there a way to, from my PC, tell the phone to wake up, unlock itself and start the app remotely ? )

    thanks !

Phone Not connecting to wifi and crashing

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 08:59 PM PDT

Hi Hi. I'm having trouble with my phone and was hoping to get some help or advice. I have tried multiple solutions and tutorials online but I'm at my wits end. My phone will not connect to my home wifi (when it rarely does, it's for a very short time), and it's crashing and lagging. Prior to this the phone worked perfectly. This phone has been the only thing keeping me distracted, and it has a grief counselling app on it that has been really helpful. I'm overwhelmed and have poop brain right now. I was hoping someone out there might know a solution that maybe I'm just missing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm sorry if I'm a bit repetitive and this is a bit long. I tried to organize it as well as I could.

    Phone Info:

    • LG3, Android 6
    • Specifically LG-D852
    • Has a Virgin mobile micro sim card. I don't use them as a provider because I'm not using this as a phone. The previous owner did, but they deactivated their account way before I got it.
    • Don't have original charging cord.

    What happened? :

I was browsing Etsy, checking my emails, and had several tabs open. The pictures stopped loading, and then the internet disconnected. It crashed a short time later. Has continued to do this for 3 days.

    Messages/warnings/errors/symbols I've been getting:

    • "Your Sim card doesn't allow connection to this network"
    • "Cannot search for all wifi networks. Check sim card or mobile networks"
    • While in browser a message saying "no internet connection" appears at the top. To the left of it is a little cloud symbol that has a slash through it.
    • Sometimes upon restarting a message pops up saying "No sim card detected", and then it loads something very quickly and crashes.
    • "Process system isn't working, would you like to wait or close it?"
    • Network bar is either continuously loading (spinning wheel symbol next to bars), or has an x above it.

    What the phone is doing:

    • Not connecting to my home wifi anymore (at least not for long).
    • Crashing.
    • Sometimes says wifi is on, but it never connects.
    • Sometimes says the wifi is on in the pull down menu, but not in the settings, and vise versa.
    • Sometimes it says it's connected to wifi in both menus, and even shows the correct connection, but when I open the browser it says "no internet connection" on top, or "you are offline"
    • The charging % will drastically lower upon restarting.
    • Changes wifi settings on its own, and often greys out options.
    • Lags
    • Has gotten in restart loops that last 2 rounds at most.

    What I've ruled out:

    • As far as I can tell there weren't any updates or significant changes prior.
    • I didn't download anything new, or delete anything before this happened.
    • I didn't spill anything on it, or step on it, or drop it.

What I've tried and the result:

    • Reset wifi multiple times. No change. Every other device that connects to wifi is fine.
    • Taking the battery out and letting it rest. No change.
    • Taking the sim card out (at least the sim card messages make sense now though). No change
    • Took the phone apart and cleaned and inspected every part of it. The sim card readers contact points are intact and clean. The sim card has no scratches and is clean too. No water damage or dirt inside or out. Charging port is clean. Nothing has come loose. Doesn't matter, no change.
    • Making sure the sim card and battery are inserted correctly . No change
    • Put a small piece of foam on top of the sim card in case it wasn't being pushed down far enough to connect correctly with the reader. No change.
    • Charged the phone completely. Something odd is going on here. After charging I restarted it and the charge % was significantly lower. It has done this multiple times, especially after crashing.
    • Restarted phone multiple times. Sometimes when it comes back on the time is way off (once the date was off too). It eventually fixes itself, or I manually correct it, or it crashes. Other than that, no change.
    • Messed around with settings on chrome. No change.
    • Tried a different browser. No change.
    • Stopped using new Usb charging cord. No change.
    • Reset network settings on phone multiple times. No change.
    • Started in safe mode many times to see if it was any of my apps. Sometimes the internet connects fine for a while, but it eventually crashes anyways. There's little difference between safe mode and the normal modes functioning. Nothing conclusive.
    • I deleted any app that has been idle for a while. No change
    • Did a smart clean. No change.
    • Deleted pictures, junk, caches, etc. Cleared up like 2 Gb of space. No change
    • When I was able to connect to the internet I did every update possible to the phone and to any apps. No change.
    • Went through my internet history and every action I did that day on the phone. Changed back any minute settings to default. No change.
    • Ran Avast mobile security. Says everything is fine. No change
    • Gone through every setting on the phone: wifi settings, developer option, I even went through the sound settings. No change.
    • Turned airplane mode on and off multiple times. Sometimes it does jump start the internet for a bit, but the wifi always drops soon after.
    • Let it rest for a day. No change.
    • Applied an icepack wrapped in a plastic bag to the back of the phone to cool it down. Seems to work a bit better, but that might be just wishful thinking on my part.
    • Tried switching back between 2.4 to 5Ghtz. Phone does better on 5g, but can connect to either one for a little while. No significant change.
    • Tried to connect with WPS button multiple times. No change.
    • Tried talking kindly to the phone in case it has gained sentience and is angry at me. No response yet.

    What I haven't tried yet:

    • I don't have another device to test the sim card or battery in.
    • I don't have another battery or sim card to test in the phone.
    • I haven't 'given the phone a good shake'.
    • I haven't done a factory reset (I'd take it to a repair shop before I did that).

So does my phone need an exorcism or a new battery or what? What do you guys think the problem is? are there any other solutions I'm missing? Anything helps. Thank you for your time.

The Mysterious Case of the Music that Plays Twice in a Row

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 08:03 PM PDT

I have a Pixel 4a running Android 11. For the longest time, I have used Vinyl (a fork of Phonograph) as my default music player; recently, however, Vinyl started acting strangely. After finishing the last track in a playlist, it would immediately start playing the last track again, despite appearing paused in the UI. Thinking it was a bug with the app, I switched players, hopping from Retro Music to Oto Music and now back to the original Phonograph--but at this point I'm pretty sure it's inevitable that Phonograph will also soon begin exhibiting this bug. I'm asking here because it seems to be an issue on a system level, rather than being confined to a single app. Has anyone else experienced this, and do you have any idea how I might solve it once and for all? Thank you for your help! :-)

Is it possible to enable the tab key as an indentation instead of "cycle" on android?

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 07:59 PM PDT

I plan to use my phone+external keyboard combo as my primary means of taking notes (replacing my laptop since it is more portable).

Everything works great except for tab key for indentation. Android input it as "cycling through options", similar to alt key on desktop.

I heavily use tab indentation in my note-taking since the note-taking-style is a heavily nested markdown file, for example:

    #title

    • subtitle 1
      • point 1
        • subpoint 1
        • subpoint 2
      • point 2
        • subpoint 1
    • metadata:
      • date: 1984-7-4, tuesday
      • location: Kyoto, uni cafe

... etc. (you got the idea)

Is it possible to make the tab key insert indent/disable cycling?

Thank you in advance for your kind help!

Samsung J3 Prime SM-J327W [Lineage OS Question]

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 04:08 PM PDT

I was wondering if anyone could help me; I was looking if the Samsung J3 Prime was compatible with Lineage OS. I ended up on a few website like this [https://tweakdroid.com/lineage/samsung-galaxy-j3-prime-sm-j327w-j3popeltecan/?fbclid=IwAR0gbiz5Ufzc8RlOmCnkSutEPyMG64QO5ENTKOsvE4uiw1_1eLG0I3JgMTM#toc60 telling it's possible, but... if I look at the compatibility list, the Samsung J3 Prime is not listed. So, can I install a custom rom on it???

How can I access my backed-up data/be sure that it's saved?

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 03:38 PM PDT

I have a Galaxy S7. I was wondering how I can use a different device to access my data that is backed up, and how I can be sure that all my stuff is saved?

When I go to Settings>Cloud and Accounts>Backup and Restore, it says my data is being backed up both on my Samsung account and my Google account- but I can't figure out how to access the data that is supposedly backed up.

Also, I can't figure out what exactly is being backed up in the "Apps" category. I have notes on the default "Memo" app that I really want to be backed up. Does anyone know if they would be covered by the "Apps" category? And if not, how else would I be able to back them up?

S6 edge is not responsive altogether

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 07:03 PM PDT

So the problem started this morning when my s6 edge was charging, I went to check it and found it not opening and the LED light is red indicating that it's being charged. I plugged the charger out and the phone is still unresponsive but the LED is still RED!!

It went like this for 5 hours straight. I tried cooling it down since it was hot and eventually the LED light turned off but the phone is still unresponsive to charger or to anything.

I tried rebooting, vol up/down/ power buttons, vol down/ power buttons, vol down/power/ home buttons but still nothing! I'm extremely worried about it, this phone stayed with me for 6 years and I have huge amount of data stored in it

Any input would be extremely appreciated!

Resolving a failed rooting of a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 and (possibly) revert it back to normal

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 09:47 AM PDT

I was trying to root my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 gt-p5200 but the root script which I've used was not good enough for the tablet to handle.

After a successful flashing of the root file through the already included ODIN software, I was disappointed to find out that my Tablet was having trouble to load the root script and so it got stuck in an infinite loop without ending.

However, the buttons combination used to access the downloading section still worked fine, but I wasn't able to access the recovery screen.

What sort of solution do I need in order to make this old Tablet device came back to normal? Do you have any answer? Write it down below this comment section please.

You can also suggest an alternative rooting method or script which doesn't consume that many resources for an old Tablet like this.

Is the Samsung S20 FE (2020) a worthwhile upgrade from the LG G7 (2018)

Can someone teach me how to flash a custom rom on xiaomi mi A2?

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 02:21 PM PDT

Preface: I'm not a tech noob, did that in the past, but passed way too many years that procedure changed a bit

It's an entire week I'm looking at videos explaining it. Too bad most of them are in indian.

I mean, I can read everything written on it, but one video explains a different thing than the other, so I can't join the knowledge between the videos.

    What I understood so far:

    • Unlock OEM
    • USB Debug
    • Reboot in fastboot
    • unlock the bootloader( this part is split, 2 different ideas)
    1. One is made, if I didn't became stupid already, an unlock that shows a "brutal" message at every boot? saying boot is unlocked, you risk
    2. In the other, I don't see anything evil
    • I guess this is the part where I'm scared of: I cleanup everything(without the internal), on both slots, and then I install the rom on the opposite slot?
    • Install the twrp(which I saw it will install on both slots?)
    • reboot on twrp
    • cleanup again, change slot and install gapps
    • cleanup again and reboot to twrp
    • install the force disabler?
    • reboot to system

If you noticed there are things I might be worried about, so, if you can help me to understand, I will be glad to hug you very tight 😳

Question about strange/annoying nested app behavior.

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 05:51 PM PDT

TL;DR: Android has this weird nesting app behavior that I can't figure out how to disable or even describe adequately enough for a google search.

I'm going crazy. There's this behavior in Android where an app will open in another app, and I'd like to disable it if possible. However, all of my internet searches lead nowhere. Nobody talks about this feature at all, to complain about it or anything. I must just not know the magic search terms. If it weren't for my wife confirming the behavior I'd seriously be questioning my sanity.

Here's an example of the behavior.

    1. I open the files app and select a recently downloaded PDF.
    2. Android asks me which app I'd like to open it with. In this case I pick Book Reader
    3. The PDF opens in Book Reader. However, when I click the Overview button, the icon indicating what app I'm in still says I'm in the files app.

If I go to the home screen, and then reopen the files app, it brings me to the same "Book Reader" screen, which is very confusing as it does not give any indication that this is Book Reader in Files. If I open Book Reader directly, I'm sent to the normal Book Reader screen, not the PDF I just opened from the files app.

    My questions are

    1. What is this behavior called?
    2. Can I disable it?
    3. How does anybody tolerate this madness.

How do I recover data from a drowned phone that can't even turn on?

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 03:45 AM PDT

First of all, I'm sorry if this question has been answered already, or if this is not the appropiate subreddit.

Some days ago both my phones (Xiaomi 6A and Xiaomi 9T) fell into a river (long story i guess), and after 48h on rice there aren't any signs that they are waking up again. I need to recover some pictures, videos, and also some notes of the notes app, that I use for work. They are dead, so my pc doesn't recognice any of them. Is there any way that I can recover anything from them, or am I f'ed?

Sorry for the broken english, and thanks for any help provided.

Is there an app or some method to force either 2.4 or 5 Ghz wifi ?

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 05:23 PM PDT

The reason for this strange question is that I'm using the Spectrum supplied router. It supports both but under a single SSID. The user has no control over which gets used, although it seems to prioritize 5 Ghz

    Note 9 Randomly shuts down

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 01:01 PM PDT

So as the title says I have a note 9 that will just randomly turn off.

As easy of an answer i dont think it's the battery, because it doesn't do it when I'm connected to wifi or Bluetooth. Which is fine for like 80% of the time.

But almost everytime I use my phone when not connected to wifi or Bluetooth it'll just randomly turn off and I really can't figure out why.

Ive tried uninstaling different apps, safe mode (doesn't seem to happen in safe mode), deleting the cache, checking settings and I still can't figure it out.

Looking it up doesn't help because all I get are "blue tooth drains my battery" things and this is the exact opposite of that

Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated

    Stream to player like apple?

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 12:02 PM PDT

I've recently moved from apple to android picking up the s21 ultra and am loving the phone except for one major flaw. I have yet to find a way to cast web browser videos to my TV without having to mirror the screen. I have smart tvs and an apple tv at home and on the iPhone it was as simple as play video and click the option to send it to apple tv. Is there a way to do this on android through the Web browser? I watch a lot of content online and without having to buy a chrome cast or something similar have yet to find a way to do it. Any help would be appreciated!
