Which is the highest performance and power from these? Posted: 29 Jul 2021 01:12 AM PDT Which one of the 3 options is better based only on speed, performance and power of the computer? Not looking at price which of these 3 would have best speed, performance and power for most average tech users who surf the web, run multiple apps/tabs, do light video/photo editing, watch videos/movies? In terms of raw power which of the 3 below would handle a large variety of different usages and tasks you use the laptop for (office, light gamming, software development, watching movies, video, light photo/video edit)? Which would be the best all rounder then from these? Durable student laptop for long-term use, Australia Posted: 29 Jul 2021 12:02 AM PDT
1500AUD, (~$1100USD), I'll be buying in Australia but I'm happy to have it shipped too
Yes, but it has to be durable, and last a couple of years
Not fussed with form factor, but build quality is important as I'm a student and would like the laptop to last around 5 years, without having to treat it too delicately. I'm fine with lugging a charger around 24/7, but preferably it can last 6+ hours on its own.
Not important, would gladly trade either for durability
Preferably 14" or below, but not a requirement
Blender

Don't care about touch-screen/fingerprint scanners, but it must be able to run Windows.
My budget isn't solid! What's most important to me is that it's reliable and won't break down after dropping it (lightly) a couple of times, and that it's not an Apple. I just don't want to be paying a premium for features like touchscreen when I won't use them. [link] [comments] |

Work is letting me choose between a new Surface Pro 7 and a Surface Laptop 3. Which should I choose? Posted: 28 Jul 2021 08:53 AM PDT I've heard bad things about the Surface Laptop 3, but a lot of the complaints seemed to be around price. Since work is getting it for me, price is irrelevant. I don't need the tablet functionality of the Surface Pro 7, and the laptop has a bigger screen. I've also heard the laptop has overheating issues. I really haven't been able to find much information on the laptop, so it's tough to know which I should choose. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 28 Jul 2021 11:01 PM PDT Hi! I'm looking for a laptop with a long battery life (preferably more than 10 hours) which could withstand a day's worth of typing without having to plug it in. I'm leaning in towards a MacBook Pro since reviews said you could get around 16-20 hours off of it (10-12 if one uses Zoom or Discord). Assuming there is no budget limit, what laptop(s) do you recommend? Thank you so much in advance! LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

Posted: 29 Jul 2021 01:11 AM PDT Hey everyone :) I am currently deciding between two notebooks which seem to be the top contestants in the below 700€ (830USD) German market for 14" devices. They mostly have the same stats. Here are the differences which I want you to weigh in on:
I wonder what you deem to be more important. I am currently tending towards the Lenovo as I believe that I will be fine with 500 GB SSD and my 1 TB Onedrive account as I won't have games or movies on the device but mainly office-related stuff. However, I have read that it might be possible to change the network card towards one which supports WIFI 6 on the HP, but I have never done this before. Please find below the links to the offers. Maybe you find some other stat differences that you deem worth considering. Unfortunately, you can't change the language of the page from German to English but Googles' page translation should do the trick if need be. The naming of the parts should be universal anyway. https://www.saturn.de/de/product/_hp-14s-fq1377ng-2721057.html https://www.alternate.de/Lenovo/IdeaPad-5-14ALC-(82LM00APGE)-Notebook/html/product/1738594-Notebook/html/product/1738594) Thank you for your suggestions and ideas in advance. Long-lasting gaming laptop for casual gamer: <$1500 Posted: 28 Jul 2021 12:40 PM PDT Hi folks, I am finally upgrading from my nearly unusable 10 yr old gaming laptop, and am not savvy at all about what I need. I don't play very resource intensive games, but I do want something with nice enough specs that it will smoothly run games to come out over coming yrs. This is my last big, indulgent purchase before my second kid is born, so I don't want to screw it up! Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions! LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE · Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: <$1500 USD: I have a few months to wait and watch for deals or refurbs, so the budget is a bit flexible assuming it's something I may eventually find used or on sale. · Are you open to refurbs/used? Yep · How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? I definitely want something reliable/quality. Battery life is relevant, but I will be using around the house near power source most of time, so not a deal breaker. · How important is weight and thinness to you? Not particularly. I currently have a 17in that is over 1in thick , and I've tolerated hauling it around with me so far. · Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15 in or larger · Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Primarily gaming, streaming, general office work · If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Games: o Civ 6 o Cities: Skylines o Sims 4 o Fallout4 o Skyrim Most of the games I play don't need a crazy frame rate to be enjoyable. It don't even know what FPS I'm operating at on my old POS. As long as it's not a laggy mess I'm happy. · Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Nope · Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I know I don't need the top-of-the-line, cutting edge, hardware to run the games I like, but I'd rather buy more than I need if will get me a few more years out of a laptop. I just don't have the computer knowledge to judge where that line is. [link] [comments] |
Laptop DELL Latitude 5400 vs Laptop Lenovo ThinkPad E15 Gen 2 Posted: 29 Jul 2021 12:25 AM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

Yes
I am becoming a CS student next year, so performance is the most important, then good battery life >6 hours, build quality, form factor.
The processor is important to me, i want my laptop to be fast, I also want a solid and good keyboard, minimum 256 GB SSD, 8 GB RAM with the possibility to add more if i want to, minimum 4 cores, good wifi; the webcam has to be HD (VGA is a deal breaker for me), minimum 3,5 max frequency and resolution 1920 x 1080 or something like that .
The two options that I have are dell latitude 5400 and lenovo thinkpad e15 gen 2, but any other option or suggestion is more than welcome. Also, please tell me what bad things you hear or read about them. I needed to fill the form bcs of the policy so you can ignore it, i just want to know what bad things you know about these two laptops. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 28 Jul 2021 11:44 PM PDT Hello together! I'm currently making my master degree in architecture in germany and since i started to study always worked from home at my tower. A few weeks ago my brother offered me to use his old laptop (hp pavilion dv6) when i travel and want to work. His laptop is about 10 years old and starting to get senility. - some keys don't work, somehow the harddrive ist constantly on 100% workload, since I installed Win10 and the battery pack doesn't work at all. So I looked up, how much it would cost to atleast fix those 3 issues (ssd, new keyboard + battery) and it would be about 100€ and im still not quite sure if it would be fun to work on it(bc its fking heavey xD). So i thought of just buying a new laptop for about 500€ but im totally lost what makes sense, so i hope you guys could help me. I primary just want to draw 2D like floorplans and sections (in vectorworks), do some light photoshop and maybe look at something in 3d from time to time. - No need to render in high quality, because i still got my tower. As mentioned before, I would like to pay less than 500€ (about 600$). thanks in advance! have a nice week! [link] [comments] |

Laptop for student/light gaming (USA-$600) Posted: 28 Jul 2021 09:46 PM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: Total budget for laptop and any upgrades is $600 USD, possibly $650 USD. Country of purchase is USA. Are you open to refurbs/used? Possibly but I would prefer new. I would say I would rather go with a refurb rather than used though. How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Performance -> battery life -> build quality -> form factor (performance is the biggest priority). How important is weight and thinness to you? Weight is is pretty important as I will be taking it everywhere so preferably under 6lbs. More is ok but undesirable. Thinness isn't too important. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Has to be able to run MGSV Phantom Pain at a steady 30fps or greater on at low graphic settings. (More fps is preferred). Other than that just bring able to run multiple tabs of Crome at once and also word/PowerPoint. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? As mentioned above, MGSV at +30fps on low. Also, Minecraft at +60fps with lowest settings. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Touch screen would be nice but due to the cost of them, not really needed. Needs a USB 3.0/normal USB port. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Currently I am thinking about getting the Acer Aspire 5 A515-46-R14K and upgrading the ram and nvme ssd. It has 4gs of ram that's on the mother board so I can only get up to 8gs in dual channel and the rest would be in single. It's cpu is amd Ryzen 3350u and the gpu is amd Radeon vega 6 graphics. I am willing to wait a few months to get a good deal. I would like this laptop to last me around 5 years or more. [link] [comments] |

From my research, Lenovo Legion 5 seems to be the only laptop matching all my requirements, but the 2020 models are no where to be found, it would be great if I can find them at $1000 price range. Asus Tuf15 seems to be a great option too, but every review I saw mentioned it had not-so-good thermals, I live in a humid environment so thermals are important. HP Open 15 looks great too, but I don't think I can get it for $1000. [link] [comments] |

Engineering student, light gaming and general school work Posted: 28 Jul 2021 09:07 PM PDT I was looking at the 2020 XPS 15 given there is a 25% off clearance sale, but after further reading it doesn't seem to be a viable choice. I'm doing engineering, so I'll need something capable of rendering 3D models fairly decently. I really liked the thunderbolt ports on the XPS15 which allowed for an easy way to plug the laptop in and almost transfer it to a desktop setup with a monitor, mouse and keyboards LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE · Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: $3000NZD - Auckland, New Zealand · Are you open to refurbs/used? Not first preference, though am open to suggestions. · How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Quite important when purchasing for this price, all similar to the XPS 15 in terms of build quality, battery life and performance minus the thermal throttling. · How important is weight and thinness to you? Weight and thinness aren't massive, but again the design of the XPS15 was really nice and something similar to that would be great. · Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15in · Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Gaming, just games like Valorant, Rocket League and potentially Tarkov (though this isn't really realistic without a gaming laptop, so no issues). Also needs to be capable of rendering 3D models, potential light photoshop and video editing, general applications like word and excel, also some programming. · If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? At least 50-60fps. · Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? A nice keyboard and decent size touchpad, sturdy build. The bezels on the XPS 15 are also really nice. Solid cooling is also quite important. · Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. The ability to use the laptop in both a desktop and laptop setting is quite important, just solid performance and a sturdy build. [link] [comments] |
