Using 2933MHz RAM and 3200MHz RAM

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 11:23 AM PDT

    Hello all,

So I was hoping to upgrade the memory on my laptop. It uses RAM with 2933MHz clock speed, and I have struggled to find available chips with this specific speed. Most of the RAM I have found is either 2666MHz or 3200MHz. I have found several 2933MHz chips, but they are out of my price range. I would prefer to pay around 80$, but most of the chips with this clock speed are above 100$.

I found a 16GB chip for ~80$ that is clocked at 3200MHz. At the moment my laptop has 2 4GB chips, both at the 2933MHz speed. I was hoping to keep at least 1 4GB chip in so I could have a total of 20GB of RAM (my laptop supports up to 32).

Would this be possible? Or will I have to purchase a more expensive chip clocked at 2933MHz?

    Thank you for your opinions.

Can I download games onto a flashdrive and plug it in only when I want to play so it doesn't slow down my laptop?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 02:57 PM PDT

Okay, hear me out here. I know nothing about computers, so I apologize in advance.

I got a nicer chromebook for school a few weeks ago. I wanted to download minecraft and terraria on it, but didn't want to slow it down at all, since it is primarily for school work.

I was wondering if it would be possible for me to download minecraft and terraria onto a flashdrive of some sort. My thought process was so that I could just plug a certain drive in when I wanted to play so that they wouldn't slow my laptop down.

My main priority is schoolwork, but I wanted to run a game or two on here.

    New laptop for mom

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 01:03 PM PDT

Looking to buy a new laptop for my Mom, she currently has a Lenovo Thinkpad (4gb ram, i5 6200U, 1tb hdd), its starting to show its age and needs to be replaced. I am not really sure what to get and was hoping for some advice, it needs to have a good battery, good screen, and not take forever to open google and do basic tasks.

I was looking at some of the Asus Vivobooks on amazon that are in the $500+ range, and was hoping for some feedback on them, i am open to other brands as well.

It will be used mainly for Netflix, MS Office, and Video calling

    Budget $600 CAD

    Thanks

Basically my thinkpad t450s CPU is 77°C while idle, just wondering that is it okay since my main pc has usually 35° at idle. I have also gotten bluescreens about hardware failure but those happen usually once per month.

Should I get 16gb or 32gb of RAM?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 12:54 PM PDT

So I'm planning to get an Asus ROG Strix G17 from XoticPC, and it'll be my first ever laptop so I'm not super sure on if 16gb or 32gb is better for the games I wanna play. I'm probably gonna be playing stuff like modded Minecraft and stuff like that, and I'm honestly not super sure how RAM affects games and stuff like that haha.

(I'm not sure if this is necessary to add, but I'll be getting a 1TB Samsung 970 EVO SSD with it too, and the laptop will be prebuilt since I'm kinda worried to mess with adding parts for my first laptop lol)

    Thanks in advance :))

    What is a good laptop?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 12:02 PM PDT

I am looking to get a laptop, but there are so many options. I will be doing web browsing, video lessons, muscore, and stuff like that. My budget is $1000 not including accessories. I also need at least 500GB of storage, and a way to upgrade storage if I need it. It needs to still be good for about 5-6 years. Any suggestions on a laptop to get?

Would this laptop be good for a business student?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 11:01 AM PDT

I found this Lenovo ideapad 5 15 for a great price, and I think it might be a great fit for me, but I'm not sure. I need it to last 4 years of business school where I'll use it for light tasks such as excel and browsing. I do think I'll be required to take some coding classes, but we have access to a computer lab if this laptop can't handle that. My main concern is that I'm not sure if 8gb of ram will be future proof.

    Maximum Memory Supported

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 10:53 AM PDT

I've got a laptop with 32GB limit and 8GB soldered into the motherboard, would there be a problem if I install a 32GB ram and have a total of 40GB ram? Would it hurt my computer?

    dead pc?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 10:33 AM PDT

i didnt know what flair to use, but my laptop has been dead for quite a while and i couldn't find anything online so my final options were quora and reddit before i go see somewhere nearby that could help.

the problem is that my keyboard lights seem to have no response whether its the NUMLOCK key or power button theres NOTHING

my charger is in stable condition and the pc itself is really cold

what i did before it broke down was accidently run a high ram app that completely crashed the laptop as it was on 1-3% and it hasnt been used since

anyone know how i could fix it?

p.s i cant remove anything like the battery on my own.
