The new Google Play Store 'Manage apps and devices' section... is really bad Posted: 12 Jul 2021 12:43 PM PDT I don't understand some of the changes Google makes to perfectly working apps for seemingly no reason. It now takes an extra click for checking for app updates, which adds up when you check it multiple times a day. More importantly, updates don't always show up on the first screen. 1 in 10 times, it'll show the 'All apps are up to date' message but when I click on it and click 'Check for updates', two new apps will show that they do in fact require updates. What the hell? And whose idea was it to separate the currently updating apps and recently updated app lists? The previous format was so convenient, you could easily see what apps recently updated and their changelog as you updated new apps, but now you can't do that. You need to go back and click on 'See recent updates'. The 'Library' option serves absolutely no purpose beyond your app wishlist, (which should be integrated in the 'Manage apps' section or your installed apps should be located in 'Library') because the other two options redirect you to other apps. Alright, end of rant. Just wish we could have the old layout back. And now that I'm talking about Google, I'll add that Google Duo sucks (seriously? No indicator to show who's currently talking?), and Google Meet needs more features (like the ability to share sound when screen sharing on mobile devices, this should be basic!) Galaxy S21 Ultra 108MP vs 10x Optical Zoom. Zoom into the images and see the detail difference! Posted: 12 Jul 2021 01:55 PM PDT -First image is slightly compressed (could not find a website to host the image at full quality) -Second image is the 108MP image cropped to relatively the same size as the 10x Optical Zoom (roughly 10MP) uncompressed -Third image is the 10x Optical Zoom (10MP) uncompressed On the first image you can even zoom onto other portions of the photo and see the detail that the 108MP captures. You can easily read names on buildings, and advertisements on the stadium. Uncompressed these show even better, however I do not know of a way to detail the 108MP photo in all it's glory. (Google Drive link to the first image uncompressed, though I am not sure if other accounts are able to view the file in full quality: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FCTI7ijA8QOFwpNaMdL8yOiodVHVxYEi/view) [link] [comments] | ||

Android without Google Services is gonna be more usable soon ! Posted: 12 Jul 2021 08:19 PM PDT Here's a simple study conducted by me - So we all are aware that Windows 11 is coming with Android support using Intel bridge technology and the app repository would be 'Amazon App Store' with 500k apps, not Google Play with more than 2 million apps ... So a normal person would see this as a collaboration with Amazon and Microsoft but that won't be the actual story under the hood ; it's Amazon's Another creepty attempt to create a Google-free Android . This collab would lead more and more android developers to make their apps compatible with Amazon's App store - thus compatible without GSF (Google Services Framework). Amazon's App store couldn't become a success in the past since the rest of the OEMs except a few were part of the Open Handset Alliance and thus couldn't explicitly support a Google-Free Android and since there was Play Store pre-installed anyway, the users didn't switch either. By the 2019, Google was successful in tying almost all popular app being dependant on GSF and developers didn't resist either since their workload was cut down due to the APIs provided by Google. Now here's the present catch - windows 10 itself has aroud 400 million users , and let's assume 50% of them would switch to Windows 11 within a few months or an year - that's a whooping 200 million users into the modern windows with Android apps' support powered by Amazon's App Store . This would obviously lead more and more developers to port their apps to be compatible with Amazon's App Store - apps that can run without Google Services' dependency !!! This would really help Android as an Operating System become independent of Google's closed source propreitary framework and i think this is a GOOD NEWS for users who love AOSP the way it was back then.....
