Is it OK to appreciate Samsung? Posted: 10 Jul 2021 09:01 AM PDT The recent news of OnePlus throttling software and them generally falling out of favour with Android fans made me think of Samsung and how long they have managed stay at the top of the game. From the very first Galaxy S, Samsung have managed to take the top spot and keep it. Other competitors came along, HTC, Sony, Huawei, OnePlus. But eventually they all faded away, while Samsung stayed on course. The latest being OnePlus, who shot up to fame quite quickly but now seems to be on the downward trajectory. They have had their fair share of bad press with the exploding Note batteries and other things but generally they've maintained a very good image. Not only has Samsung maintained the top spot, but they've pushed the envelope at each generation. Whenever a new version of Android comes out, Samsung owners always point out how some new feature has been available on Samsung phones for a while. And they've always pushed the hardware envelope. Also, they were one of the first manufacturers to push for 3 years of Android updates. There are rumours of Google pushing updates to 5 years starting from Pixel 6, but that is still a rumour. I guess it helps that they are aiming at Apple, and in my opinion Apple is still the gold standard. But amongst Android manufacturers the gold standard is definitely Samsung. Disclaimer: Before you call me a fan. I don't own and have never owned a Samsung phone. [link] [comments]
I feel like Google maps needs some navigation work as of lately. Posted: 10 Jul 2021 04:55 PM PDT Directing me to the correct location still works excellent. It's the navigation while driving that is just really starting to annoy me. I'm in Washington. Around Seattle. I take i5 and i405 a lot. What happens is for an example, I'll be on i405 and there will be a few massive junctions along my route. Instead of giving me what my exit is (IE: stay on i405 for 15 miles. Your next exit is 4), or when it's even coming up, it just announced "stay on i405 for 5 miles" ok, now I'm passing the next the major junction. "stay on i405 for 7 miles" dude. I'm already on i405. You told me to get on i405. Why do you continue to tell me to stey on i405 instead of just giving me my damn exit number? Another example: I was in Seattle, making my way to i5 S. Instead of "turn right on 50th street and get on i5 south" it just says "turn right on 50th street" (what if I'm not from around the area and I don't know if I need north or south?? These decisions require quick timing, a freeway entry is 400 feet away) ok, so I'm on i5 south. "stay on i5 south for one mile" and then what google? What do I need to do in one mile? Move across 4 lanes to the left? Stay in the right? It's a clusterfuck, I need to know right now what my exit number is so I have time to move [link] [comments]
