Newbie Looking for a laptop suitable for gaming and digital art, budget is 1-2k AUD Posted: 30 Apr 2021 11:23 PM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE - Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
1000-2000 dollars AUD - Are you open to refurbs/used?
Preferably not - How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
I'll be honest I don't fully understand this part, so I apologise but I'm looking for something with around 16GB ram, 512 GB storage and like an intel 7 processor (as an example). I want to be able to have a bunch of tabs open at once without the laptop slowing down. For battery life id prefer it were above the 4 hour mark, but I'm not overly fussed if it needs to be charged often. I also would prefer it has a decent screen/colour accuracy since I will doing digital art on it so colour accuracy is important. I already have a drawing tablet so I don't think a 2 in 1 will be necessary. - How important is weight and thinness to you?
Not all that important, I'm willing to carry something heavier around if it does the job. - Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
15.6 - Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
I will be running programs like CSP, and potentially some adobe software such as illustrator or photoshop in the future (not entirely sure though).
- If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
Games like minecraft, stardew valley, terraria, but I would also like to run some heavier games such as Yakuza or something similar, I think 60 FPS is considered pretty good?
- Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
I don't need a touch screen as I already have a drawing tablet so having some USB ports is a must, including one for a smaller usb- I use the XP Pen Artist 12 so as long as the laptop has ports that are compatible with that I don't mind too much. A webcam would be ideal but not mandatory.
- Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I apologise if this is confusing to read, so thank you for the patience. I would prefer not to buy a mac, since I can't afford the repairs on them. Thanks! submitted by /u/Treestick37 [link] [comments] |

Which one is better to buy considering the overall performance (productivity and gaming) and battery life? Posted: 30 Apr 2021 10:02 PM PDT 1) Asus Vivobook S14 S433 (11th Gen) - Intel Core i5-1135G7 processor - Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics - 8GB RAM - 512GB SSD 2) Acer Swift 3 SF313 (10th Gen) - Intel Core i5-1035G4 processor - Intel Iris Plus Graphics - 16GB RAM - 512GB SSD I'm having difficulty in choosing between the two because the other one has a more updated processor although has lesser RAM (not upgradable). On the other hand, the Acer is only run by a 10th Gen processor, but it has way higher RAM than Asus. Which one do you think is better to purchase? Need 13-15" $500 laptop in US for basics Posted: 30 Apr 2021 10:24 PM PDT I have an old Windows tower that is on its last legs. What I want in a laptop... -13" to 15" screen -Laptop will mainly be used to project video on my TV. I'm big dummy when it comes to computers and right now running an HDMI cord from my desktop to my TV (this is my TV https://www.lg.com/us/tvs/lg-47LS4500-led-tv ) There has to be a better setup than my current HDMI cord from computer to tv. -All I do is Netflix/Hulu and random 1080 vids. -When I do use the laptop in my bedroom, I want to use my 27" Asus monitor (HDMI). Sometimes I just want to watch movies in bed. -Battery life is not a big concern. Will be plugged directly into my wall socket 90% of the time. Hoping I touched on all of the bases. I want to upgrade my Surface. Posted: 30 Apr 2021 10:07 PM PDT So I've had the Surface Go (1st gen) for a while now and it's not quite holding up as well as I expected, and now I want to upgrade. I need to know what other models of Surface/Surface Pros would be enough of an upgrade to run programs like Krita and Photoshop. I found a listing for a surface pro 3, i7, 8gbs of ram and plenty of storage, but since I'm not very tech savvy, I don't wanna go off an assumption. LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE - Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
My budget goes from whatever up to 500 USD. - Are you open to refurbs/used?
Yes, I'm definitely open to refurbs. All I ask for is full functionality. - How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
I think that performance and battery life are gonna be critical for my upgrade. Also, I don't any form factor, but I'm used to the Surface Go which is a 2-1, I guess. For clarity, I've never attached a keyboard to my device. - How important is weight and thinness to you?
I need it to be portable ENOUGH to fit in a backpack. - Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
Bigger than 10 in. - Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Krita, Photoshop CC, Clip Studio Paint, Autodesk Sketchbook. - If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
N/A - Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
DEF needs a touch screen and Windows Ink compatibility. - Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Wanting to upgrade from my XPS 9380. Posted: 30 Apr 2021 08:21 PM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE - Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
$650 - $750 USD - Are you open to refurbs/used?
Used is preferred as I can get a better deal. - How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Somewhat portable, I'd rather not have a brick but it doesn't have to be super light/thin either. Metal frame and battery life isn't a huge factor. - How important is weight and thinness to you?
As stated above I'd rather it not be a brick but doesn't have to be super light/thin. - Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
Up to 14" - Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Some light gaming. Maybe the kingdom hearts series, and a bit of retro gaming as well. Not super resource heavy games though. By no means do I need things to run at max settings. - If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
^ - Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Keyboard isn't important, I can adapt. I would like a touch screen with a minimal resolution of 1080p at least, finger print reader would also be cool as I've gotten used to having one on my XPS. USB-C is also useful to have. - Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I think I've covered pretty much everything I would want. Thanks in advance for the help! Edit: Forgot to mention ryzen is preferred over anything Intel. submitted by /u/stinkysaiyan [link] [comments] |
Looking for a long-lasting laptop for music production/photo editing/graphic design! Posted: 30 Apr 2021 05:24 PM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE - Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
Anything from $500-$1,500. I want to spend as little as possible but I'm willing to make a long-term investment in saving up for an end-all-be-all laptop. I don't make a lot of money, but I have a great credit score that I will gladly ruin for THE one. Oooonly half-joking...lmao but I do wanna feel out what the true price range is for my ideal set-up so I can plan accordingly. Are you open to refurbs/used? Absolutely. Refurbished and used laptops are preferred. How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? As long as the internal side of it does everything I need it to I will be happy. I plan on working with a lot of synths and FX plugins in Ableton and doing some digital-collage and graphic art kinda stuff with Affinity. A decent battery life would be nice, but my previous 2011 Macbook basically couldn't function without being plugged in and that was hardly problematic, so I'll make do with what I can in that regard. How important is weight and thinness to you? As long as I can fit it inside my gigantic hiking backpack it'll do for me. I'm used to walking around with heavy stuff. I just want to be able to take it with me. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Photo editing/graphic design stuff for sure; with what I've done so far it has caused a bit of lagging and crashing in the past. I don't know if this is relevant, but just in case, I also plan on working with some complex audio stuff- involving tons of CPU-heavy synth layering, lengthy FX plugin chains, and complex audio routing. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I miss Rocket League sometimes but I can live without it. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? It has to work with the current versions of Ableton and Affinity programs. Based on what I've read before, I think I want a large amount of RAM and CPU power, although I'm not the most computer-literate so correct me if I'm wrong. Storage would be nice but I have external storage on hand so it's not a big priority. Windows or Macbooks are fine, they each have their own pros and cons for me. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. To sum it up, I have a dream-computer in my head, but am willing to make any compromises necessary as long as I can make music and do some digital photo-editing without any significant lagging problems. I'm very used to work-arounds and consider them part of the fun in making art- Despite that, there are times where I've had ideas that are practically impossible to execute on my dinosaur Macbook before it ended up dying on me. Any and all suggestions are appreciated, thanks in advance! submitted by /u/floralprintsocks [link] [comments] |

Looking for a laptop for gaming, zoom meetings, and watching movies ($2000USD) Posted: 30 Apr 2021 04:38 PM PDT •Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: $1500-$2,000 USD •Are you open to refurbs/used? No •How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Good performance and build quality are the main priority. Decent battery life would be nice, although it's not hugely important as I'll be able to charge while using most of the time. Really just looking for a basic laptop, maybe an ultrabook. Not interested in 2-in-1 or anything with a touch screen. •How important is weight and thinness to you? Something lightweight that can be easily transported would be ideal. •Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 13-15" •Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I'm into gaming but play a lot of older and indie games (stardew valley, Minecraft, half-life, fallout new Vegas, sims 3), nothing too demanding. If possible, I would like the option to play more depending games though. I also do occasional photo and video editing; again nothing too intense, just simple videos and photo editing in gimp or Inkscape. •If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Stardew valley, Minecraft, sims 3, fire watch, but I would like to have the option of playing some newer/more demanding games. 60fps is preferable. •Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Good keyboard and touchpad are important. Good quality webcam is also a top priority; something that will work well for zoom meetings. SD card reader, headphone jack, and optical drive would be nice (optical drive isn't necessary though). Do NOT want a touch screen. Minimum 1TB SSD. •Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I'm looking for a new laptop to replace my 10-year old MacBook Pro. I like my current laptop, but I don't think I want another mac because I don't like that you can't repair or upgrade parts yourself (the ability to do that is important to me, so I want a laptop I'll be able to upgrade or repair by myself). I want something that I can use for light gaming, basic internet browsing and watching movies/shows, and photo/video editing. Also want a good webcam as I have a lot of appointments over zoom. submitted by /u/1398_Days [link] [comments] |

I would love something thick enough to take some blows, but I do need to carry it around quite a bit. - Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
14 in, but id be fine if it wasn't - Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Valorant, maybe Minecraft or Apex, but mostly Valorant - If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

- Are you open to refurbs/used? Yes. I'm also happy with older laptops, you get a good deal.
- How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Form factor - don't care. Battery Life - not important, it will be plugged in most of the time
- How important is weight and thinness to you? Not important
- Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Prefer 17" or 15" but it's not important. I will use a monitor most of the time.
- Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. CAD but no gaming. I will be doing electronics CAD design (FPGA design and PCB routing) which is processor-heavy with lots of disk accesses. Programmes - Xilinx Vivado, Mentor Graphics PADS. Occasional photo editing of holiday snaps etc but not professionally.
- If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? No gaming
- Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
