    Evil Folder denies access!

    Evil Folder denies access!

No matter what I do, I cannot change the contents of a certain folder.

    The evil folder

I am an admin on my system. I tried using the takeown command as an admin. I tried changing ownership within file explorer. But I still can only read the contents. I cannot delete the folder, I cannot add files, I cannot replace files (which is what I want to do).

Also, whenever I changed the owner to an account that was not directly mine, it said I needed permission from that user. For example, say my username is Bill Gates. It would say "You need permission from Bill Gates to make changes to this folder".

How can I gain full control over this folder?

Whenever I hold left click to move a file, it tries to create a link instead.

Is there a way to make Windows Explorer remember View settings?

    Posted: 21 May 2021 02:43 AM PDT

I have a bunch of folders that I use to store source videos for editing. Every single time I have to tell it to show me Large thumbnails and sort them by date modified. After like a thousand times I've set this, I still have to do it. Why doesn't it remember, or better yet can I make it remember this on a folder by folder basis? So I can just set it once and that folder will forever have the "Large thumbnails - date modified" setting?

Why is text getting clipped in this window?

    Posted: 21 May 2021 06:50 PM PDT

Why is text getting clipped in this window?

Brand new laptop here. Was setting up OneDrive and I noticed the title for the first text area that should read "Important PC Folders" is getting clipped. What's glitching and how can I fix it?

The display resolution is 1920x1080 and scaling is set to 125% out of the box. Exact same as my other laptop which does not show this issue.

I have not (yet) altered any settings in Windows.

What is the root cause of 100% disk usage in Windows?

    Posted: 21 May 2021 07:46 AM PDT

A google search for 100% disk usage issues will net you hundreds of forums, articles, etc. about the best way to resolve this or resolve that. Its easy to go through all of the convoluted solutions, and at the end of it you still have not made much progress. Some of these solutions are process specific, such as disabling SuperFetch. This wont help you if there is another process causing 100% usage and slowing everything down. Closing down threads in task manager often feels like playing process whack-a-mole, only to find something else clogging up disk time. Sometimes the problem goes away on its own, despite whatever solutions you've tried, only to pop up again a month later.

What is the root cause of these issues? Is the HDD a bottleneck, or do SSDs still have disk usage problems. Why does it seem like earlier versions of windows never had these problems. There are thousands of articles and solutions to these issues, none of which ever stick. Is this all just a distraction and no real solution exists?

I'm not looking to troubleshoot my PC, I just want to understand what is going on.

MSASCuiL.exe appeared today on startup but was gone after reboot.

    Posted: 21 May 2021 04:12 PM PDT

Suddenly MSASCuiL.exe appeared on my startup menu but then was gone after reboot

A few days ago I did a fresh windows 10 install and everything seemed fine until today, when I check my startup apps on task manager I found a program called MSASCuiL.exe, I couldn't check it's properties because the option was greyed but in the command line section it sait that the file was located in C:\ProgramFiles\WindowsDefender although I couldn't find the file after looking in that location.

I didn't disable the task and did a reboot, after that it was no longer in the startup menu.

After some googling I found divergent answers, some say It's a legit process and some say it could be malware. The only thing I've done since I installed windows is just regular browsing but I am still concerned that my installation media could have been infected someway.

Also, I don't know if it is related in any way but when I was first updating windows, microsoft defender was turn off and I had to manually restart it, is it normal?

Could you clarify me if this is indeed a legit microsoft defender process?.

Best way to run a Windows VM in Windows 10?

    Posted: 21 May 2021 11:11 AM PDT

    Hello all,

I would like to keep my work stuff separate from my personal stuff, but on the same PC. I was thinking of creating a work VM of Windows which I could access using RDC or something like that. What is the best way to run a windows VM on Windows currently? Looking for best performance and features. I have plenty of RAM and CPU cores.

I know of virtual box, not sure if there are better options.

    Thank you.

Windows 10 Update Assistant - Why you should wait and my experience with it.

    Posted: 20 May 2021 09:14 PM PDT

For the past 2 days, I have been trying my hardest to upgrade to Version 21H1. But, the 5 attempts I made were gone to waste. The first 4 attempts all were due to Power outages because storms and rain have been striking for the past 1 week. Then, just like yesterday night I thought of updating then. I used The Update assistant, so trying to update to 21H1 will take a long time. It was done (or so i thought) in about 2 am when I started the update in about 7:30 pm. I woke up to see how well it was doing. It was on the "working on updates" screen and it would restart a couple of times. It came up till 76% and after that the tables turned. It restarted like normal. But then, a message at the bottom of the screen read, "Attempting to recover installation" "Undoing changes made to your computer..."

I was confused. Keep in mind that I was waiting for it to finish so I sat near my computer desk. It was like the worst thing to see at the middle of the night for me. It was kind of disappointing that even after 5 times of trying to update to 21H1, I couldn't update.

So, we might have 2 issues here.

    1. Due to last 4 power outages, the files which windows needs might have been corrupted.
    2. There might be serious some issues with the update assistant on Microsoft's Website.

So, I decided that I will upgrade to 21H1 next month cuz there might be bugs in that windows version anyways. Keep in mind that I have done this before to upgrade to 20H2 back in march.

Let me know how it went for you guys who used the update assistant so that i can figure out what the issue is.

    Thanks

INFO/Curiosity - Device Manager: i7 8550U and "show hidden devices" also shows "Xeon E5"

    https://preview.redd.it/q5p1eopj1g071.jpg?width=308&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7fab6b4f23f48b1ff586452a8a7502f2d9b3fbb1

Hello everyone. I own an ASUS X510UF with Intel 8550U 4/8 for 3 years, and last year I formatted Windows by installing from scratch with the Windows tool, installing the drivers provided by ASUS.

Only today I realized that going into device manager and selecting "show hidden devices", in addition to the 8 logical cores of my processor I also see 2 Xeon E5 2673. If you click on either one, it says "hardware device not connected to computer".

Is it simply a bug or should I do something?

    Thanks

Does anyone have the Movie Moments AppX package ?

    Posted: 21 May 2021 09:17 AM PDT

Does anyone have the Movie Moments AppX package ?

Movie Moments is not available for download; the app installation ID is 9wzdncrfj3md (full link is https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/movie-moments/9wzdncrfj3md). I used the Microsoft Store Link Generator to pull the package from Microsoft's server, but it is not available to pull.

Movie Moments allowed users to create 60-second videos with annotations and music. You could then use the Share contract to share these videos with other people. It was also available on Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows 10. Here is example of the capabilities of Movie Moments.

Movie Moments has a long history of being part of the Windows 8 era; it was included in the first leaked build of Windows 8.1 (Windows Blue) on 24 March 2013.

Movie Moments is unique as the first (and only) video editing tool from Microsoft for the Windows 8 platform (BLINK Clipets simply is a research project). I speculate that the app was removed because its product lead is no longer with Microsoft, but I cannot say for certain.
