Is there a way to make Windows Explorer remember View settings? Posted: 21 May 2021 02:43 AM PDT I have a bunch of folders that I use to store source videos for editing. Every single time I have to tell it to show me Large thumbnails and sort them by date modified. After like a thousand times I've set this, I still have to do it. Why doesn't it remember, or better yet can I make it remember this on a folder by folder basis? So I can just set it once and that folder will forever have the "Large thumbnails - date modified" setting? [link] [comments]

What is the root cause of 100% disk usage in Windows? Posted: 21 May 2021 07:46 AM PDT A google search for 100% disk usage issues will net you hundreds of forums, articles, etc. about the best way to resolve this or resolve that. Its easy to go through all of the convoluted solutions, and at the end of it you still have not made much progress. Some of these solutions are process specific, such as disabling SuperFetch. This wont help you if there is another process causing 100% usage and slowing everything down. Closing down threads in task manager often feels like playing process whack-a-mole, only to find something else clogging up disk time. Sometimes the problem goes away on its own, despite whatever solutions you've tried, only to pop up again a month later. What is the root cause of these issues? Is the HDD a bottleneck, or do SSDs still have disk usage problems. Why does it seem like earlier versions of windows never had these problems. There are thousands of articles and solutions to these issues, none of which ever stick. Is this all just a distraction and no real solution exists? I'm not looking to troubleshoot my PC, I just want to understand what is going on. https://www.cleverfiles.com/howto/100-disk-usage-windows-10.html https://www.drivereasy.com/knowledge/100-disk-usage-windows-10-fixed/ https://www.technology.org/2019/07/07/how-to-fix-100-disk-usage-in-windows-10/ [link] [comments]

MSASCuiL.exe appeared today on startup but was gone after reboot. Posted: 21 May 2021 04:12 PM PDT Suddenly MSASCuiL.exe appeared on my startup menu but then was gone after reboot A few days ago I did a fresh windows 10 install and everything seemed fine until today, when I check my startup apps on task manager I found a program called MSASCuiL.exe, I couldn't check it's properties because the option was greyed but in the command line section it sait that the file was located in C:\ProgramFiles\WindowsDefender although I couldn't find the file after looking in that location. I didn't disable the task and did a reboot, after that it was no longer in the startup menu. After some googling I found divergent answers, some say It's a legit process and some say it could be malware. The only thing I've done since I installed windows is just regular browsing but I am still concerned that my installation media could have been infected someway. Also, I don't know if it is related in any way but when I was first updating windows, microsoft defender was turn off and I had to manually restart it, is it normal? Could you clarify me if this is indeed a legit microsoft defender process?. [link] [comments]
Best way to run a Windows VM in Windows 10? Posted: 21 May 2021 11:11 AM PDT Hello all, I would like to keep my work stuff separate from my personal stuff, but on the same PC. I was thinking of creating a work VM of Windows which I could access using RDC or something like that. What is the best way to run a windows VM on Windows currently? Looking for best performance and features. I have plenty of RAM and CPU cores. I know of virtual box, not sure if there are better options. Thank you. [link] [comments]

Windows 10 Update Assistant - Why you should wait and my experience with it. Posted: 20 May 2021 09:14 PM PDT For the past 2 days, I have been trying my hardest to upgrade to Version 21H1. But, the 5 attempts I made were gone to waste. The first 4 attempts all were due to Power outages because storms and rain have been striking for the past 1 week. Then, just like yesterday night I thought of updating then. I used The Update assistant, so trying to update to 21H1 will take a long time. It was done (or so i thought) in about 2 am when I started the update in about 7:30 pm. I woke up to see how well it was doing. It was on the "working on updates" screen and it would restart a couple of times. It came up till 76% and after that the tables turned. It restarted like normal. But then, a message at the bottom of the screen read, "Attempting to recover installation" "Undoing changes made to your computer..." I was confused. Keep in mind that I was waiting for it to finish so I sat near my computer desk. It was like the worst thing to see at the middle of the night for me. It was kind of disappointing that even after 5 times of trying to update to 21H1, I couldn't update. So, we might have 2 issues here.
So, I decided that I will upgrade to 21H1 next month cuz there might be bugs in that windows version anyways. Keep in mind that I have done this before to upgrade to 20H2 back in march. Let me know how it went for you guys who used the update assistant so that i can figure out what the issue is. Thanks [link] [comments]
