vga monitor not working with thinkpad when using ( usb c coupler and extension cable ) in combination with multiport Tech Support |
Posted: I have a usb c multiport hub ive been using with my X1 CARBON GEN7 thinkpad. It has a usb c input cable which plugs into the thinkpad. I have one monitor plugged directly into the thinkpad via an hdmi to hdmi cable. I have another monitor which is vga, that i have been using with the multiport hub. I plug the vga to vga cable from the monitor into the vga input on the multiport hub, then plug the hub into the thinkpad. So far it's been working fine. I recently purchased a female to female usb c adatper/coupler and a usb c extension cable. I plug the vga monitor cable into the usb hub, i plug the hub usb c plug into one end of the adapter/couplter, i plug one end of the extension cable into the other end of the adapter/couple and i plug the other end of the extension cable into the thinkpad. With the latter configuration, the second monitor is not working. I have tried flipping around all of the cables, adapters and hubs in every configuration, but nothing seems to make the monitor turn on. It should be noted, the other devices, such as my mouse and keyboard DO work with the latter configuration, just not the 2nd additional monitor. :( It should also be noted that when I use the coupler/extension cable with the supplied charging cable, the thinkpad DOES take the charge using the coupler/extension cable. Another note: I tried plugging the thinkpad charger cable directly into the hub and then plugged the hub into the thinkpad with everything else remaining the same. This didn't work either. Could it be the adapter and/or extension cable are not thunderbolt compatible and thus allow for the charge, but not the monitor connection? Could it be I need some sort of digital/analog adapter between the extension cable and the laptop? Here are the specific products I'm using https://www.newegg.com/black-startech-3-ft-usb-2-0/p/N82E16812399207?Item=9SIA2F891W0577 https://www.newegg.com/wavlink-wl-uh3031gc-usb/p/0J2-008P-00069?Item=9SIA6PFD3H2314 Any ideas on how to make the 2nd additional monitor work?! help!!! thanks in advance! :) [link] [comments] |
