Posted: 27 Apr 2021 06:26 AM PDT I have tried Anbox. But it's not mature as ChromeOS implementation. It looks like Anbox has long way to go to integrate apps with Linux system. Many apps which requires video or photo steaming struggles to run. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Apr 2021 10:42 PM PDT So after school on Friday I left my computer too update and tried to do work when I realized I couldn't boot into Linux. This was very frustrating to deal with because I have all my files and etc in Linux. How do I fix this? BTW I'm using pop os 20.04. Help would be great so I can get back to my usual work flow. EDIT: Thanks for all the help I did try many things but I found through the comments that pop os actually has a setting during installation to fix systemd [link] [comments] |
Why don't Ubuntu Jupyter install tutorials say to use "apt install" ? Posted: 27 Apr 2021 01:18 PM PDT I used apt search jupyter and found jupyter-notebook in the terminal, so I installed it like that. However none of the tutorials I looked up afterward said to do this, they say to use pip or something. Why? I thought it was best to only use the built-in repository if at all possible, at least for noobs. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 27 Apr 2021 11:37 AM PDT I just installed Linux Mint and I've been trying to rack my brain over how to get sound playing from multiple audio outputs at the same time and assign apps to a specific output. I have two monitors: one has built-in speakers and connects to my nvidia 3070 via HDMI; the other does not have built-in speakers but uses a sound bar connected directly to the monitor via aux/sound cable while the monitor itself is connected to the nvidia 3070 via display port. I'm migrating from Windows 10. W10 was able to identify both audio outputs, assign apps to specific outputs, and play sounds from both outputs simultaneously (so I can be gaming on Monitor 1 and have the game sounds play through Monitor 1's built in speakers while listening to music on Monitor 2 and have the music play through Monitor 2's plug-in sound bar speaker). I could assign the output either within an individual app's settings or by using the sound settings/configurations through the W10 OS itself. I have not been able to figure out how to accomplish this on LM. I downloaded and installed paprefs, turned on the virtual simultaneous audio option, downloaded and installed pavucontrol and pulseaudio, but those haven't worked. I can get sound to come out of one monitor or the other, but not at the same time, nor can I assign apps to specific outputs. Anything I put on, be it YouTube, VLC, game, etc will only come out on one monitor at a time and all sounds will overlap each other. When trying to assign outputs within apps themselves, it will only list the "working" output currently in use and not even list the other, so trying to assign the output on an app by app basis won't work. Is this perhaps a LM issue and not one faced by something like an Ubuntu distro? How do I get this to work? [link] [comments] |

Integrating Linux into my Google dominated-lifestyle Posted: 27 Apr 2021 10:29 AM PDT I run windows on my desktop and chrome as my main browser. I also have a pixel phone. I'm getting a laptop soon that I want to install Mint (Cinnamon) on as a first distro.
My issue is, all my passwords, form saves, photos, bookmarks etc. flawlessly sync from my pixel to browser no matter what computer I'm using. I recently switched to Firefox on my work PC and imported all the stuff above into Firefox pretty seamlessly, but it obviously doesn't sync in real time. I was just reading that Chromium for Linux lost API support from Google and sync no longer works. Is there a workaround to this other than abandoning my Google-dominated lifestyle? I wouldn't mind ditching Chrome for Firefox as my main browser (which is where I started 15+ years ago), but I'm not sure how disruptive this will prove seeing that I use a phone running Android.
Thanks in advance for your insight. [link] [comments] |

My files were moved into a [mypassword] directory after my force reboot. Why? Posted: 27 Apr 2021 10:41 AM PDT Hi, everyone :-) I installed linux mint on my crappy HP laptop (bought it with less than $80). When I open it up the screen after the close, it won't work at times. Therefore, I'm keeping the screen up all the time now (except this time). I pressed the power button to force reboot. After reboot, I found my files on desktop were gone. I used "ll" command and saw modified time are recent, so I think it's not the RAM and disk problem. And then I found a new directory of [mypassword] existing under "home/user/" I found all my text files which are supposed on the Desktop are moved to this directory. (it's when I felt: holy moly I still have long way to go with Linux) So why did it happen? What's the logic behind this? TIA! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Apr 2021 08:09 AM PDT Anyone have an idea what might cause this? It happens on multiple debian releases. Its not cables or output device, i've tried 3 of each.
Any idea what setting I could look into? Its still perfectly audible when it happens, its just like someone made an audio file with too much compression, and clipping. If not; what command could I write, to have a shortcut to 'refresh' the resolution? Saves me going into desktop properties and clicking 'apply' again. I could just hotkey a workaround. Can I safely Resize/Move my boot partition? Posted: 27 Apr 2021 11:28 AM PDT I'm running dual boot Windows with Pop!_Os and I want to increase the size of my Linux partition. I've backed up all my data already and was about to Resize/Move the boot partition in Gparted in a live USB but then a warning appeared and i got scared and didn't do it. Is it safe to do this procedure or it's better to just create another partition and have two separate locations to save my data? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 27 Apr 2021 08:01 AM PDT EDIT: Upon further search I found the command is sudo firecfg --clean I ran it not realising what it does and now unless I uninstall firejail everything runs sandboxed, which I really don't want as it messes with some applications. I want to use firejail only for one application (zoom)... Help would be appreciated [link] [comments] |
