Posted: 02 Mar 2021 10:07 PM PST My dog peed in the kitchen this morning while I was showering, didn't really think much of it at first even though it was quite a big puddle. I then go down to the basement where my PC sits, and on the edge of the desk I instantly notice and smell dog pee that sprayed everywhere, basically another puddle worth of it. Then I look and see there's a tiny holy in the floor that a nail must have used to been and by some 1 in a million chance it was directly above where my PC sits and literally landed all over the top of my tower; and I could see it sprayed all over the glass and inside of the components. I knew it was fucked that instant, the 2080 Ti was soaked right in all the parts that mattered. I just bought it and build this PC about 6 months ago, whole build was worth around $2400 I believe. With that said, I think that the graphic card might have took the most of the damage. There still some dried up pee stains that I can see kinda just flew everywhere when it hit the card and it got on like the shells of the SSD and ram and stuff but the CPU seems fine. The computer still turns on and runs and sounds quiet as normal, nothing would occur to be different. The main problem is there is no display now, I took the GPU out and plugging the monitor into the HDMI port on the back still doesn't make anything pop up. The monitor just says no signal and then turns off. Can I still possibly use the intel integrated graphics? I have no idea how to access bios now or what to do but it does seem like the PC should still work otherwise. So any advice how to go about after this shitty unlucky situation would be appreciated, thank you. Edit: can people stop messaging me saying I need to take better care of my dog? Today has been shitty enough and I already commented what happened down below If u also feel like saying that. Btw - the PC was already on when the pee got into it, it was idling for a few hours before hand [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Mar 2021 07:38 AM PST Like many others here, I'd completely given up on grabbing a 30 series GPU. Cut to a few nights ago. And now here I am, can't believe I managed to nab a 3070! To anyone in the UK still searching, this seems to be proof of what I had been reading - that restocks tend to happen around this time... [link] [comments] |
Upgraded my DP cable and no more screen flickering Posted: 03 Mar 2021 07:23 AM PST I have an AW3418DW with a 3080. For the longest time my screen would flicker on and off randomly. Sometimes every half hour to an hour sometimes every 5 minutes. It was connected via a CableMod DP 1.2 (I believe) cable. I thought it was the monitor first, then I thought it was the gpu, then I thought it was the driver. Yesterday I purchased a DP 1.4 cable from Amazon. Not a single flicker. So happy right now since the flickering would occur during games or even just browsing the desktop. Totally worth 20 bucks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Mar 2021 12:34 PM PST pic I feel like my PC is breaking the laws of physics. I have a fan exhausting air through the top of my case and my PC is on 24/7. Why is there a shadow of dust exactly in the shape of the fan below? If air is constantly being moved through that area, my engineering degree tells me dust should not settle. Can anyone help me solve this mystery? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Mar 2021 03:01 PM PST I have never used a SSD in my life, but I'm building a new gaming pc and thought of getting it along with a secondary HDD. Planning to get 250/500GB SSD and 1TB HDD, is that a good combination for gaming and other uses like working from pc? Also, what is the way to go with a SSD? I'm assuming OS and games in SSD because I want them to load faster, and then use the HDD just for storage (documents, pictures, videos, etc.). Is that correct or should I manage my storage differently? One more question, what is "M.2 SSD Drive"? Is that different from using a SSD as Storage Drive? [link] [comments] |
Suffering huge performance problems recently with RTX 2080 Super Posted: 03 Mar 2021 01:45 PM PST Hello, I've recently been suffering huge performance problems with games that my computer used to have no problem running, but only in specific places. Such as CSGO matchmaking running at bad FPS (like 80), but playing against bots runs at a more expected framerate (200+). Here is a link to my CPU-Z validator: https://valid.x86.fr/7wr1sj Does anyone have any insight as to what the problem might be? I was noticing some things like the GPU line says " NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER (TU104-450) @ 300 MHz" and 300 MHz seems quite low but I don't know why or how I might fix that. Computer was running fine a few months ago and nothing has really changed since, except that I moved house. So my only thought is something has potentially come loose but not so badly that the computer no longer works. I also just ran userbench mark: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/40519910 [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Mar 2021 02:22 PM PST I am having the most frustrating issue atm. My PC went from working 100% to semi-working to what even is this? At first I thought my problems were with my GPU since there were a few light restarts (never happened under load) and my gpu/memory clock would usually be locked at 1500/6000 and only drop when its COMPLETELY IDLE. If I were to open any application it would shoot right up to 100% usage of my gpu for a quick second. I have never overclocked, and the most I've ever done was flash my bios twice (i have no idea why). Whenever playing games even before flashing the bios, my gpu would lock at 1950 / 6000 clocks and cause some games to be unplayable at high temps when before I was able to play whatever and have no issues. EX: before problems- below 60c on valorant in game after problems began occuring - 65c+ in lobby.. I ended up returning my b-stock GPU to evga since it was under warranty, and they gave me a brand new one. Still I had the same exact problem so I ended up thinking it was either my power supply or motherboard or even my ram sticks.. so I went with the easiest choice since a lot of restarting pc threads revolved around it and bought a new psu since my old one was b-stock as well. As I am typing this, I am sitting right infront of my messed up machine, and the new psu just magically made everything worse. I am constantly getting a restarting pc and have no idea where to look. I'd assume my motherboard, but honestly playing the guessing game hasn't helped me one bit My PC now consists of all brand new parts, but something is causing it to mess with the gpu clock speeds/restarting pc. Also, I have factory reset and used DDU numerous times, so any help on what it may be will be appreciated. PC Parts: All purchased between decemeber-march CPU - ryzen 5 3600 w/ stock cooler GPU - sc ultra 1660ti MOBO - asrock b450m pro4 RAM - 2x8gb 3200 Crucial Ballistix PSU - evga b5 550w 80+ bronze CASE - dlm21 mesh FANS - 3 intake, 3 outtake (only including the case as well since I don't remember having these issues on the case I had before) [link] [comments] |
Can someone please explain what free sync and g sync is? Posted: 03 Mar 2021 12:20 PM PST I have an 3060 ti and was planning on buying a monitor with free sync, then I saw on the internet that free sync is not compatible with nvidia cards and only amd? EXXPLLLAAAIINN [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Mar 2021 02:40 PM PST Throwaway account because my friend knows my username, and I'm trying to keep this a secret... I'm trying to build a reasonably cheap PC as a gift for a friend of mine. They've been struggling along with their gaming laptop for the last 5ish years, and it is very much showing it's age. This isn't the exact laptop, but it is fairly similar (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NJNFW1M/). Ideally I want to build something nicer than this, that can hold them over for the next few months or more while they save up money to upgrade. Mostly I need help finding a CPU and GPU for 1080p gaming (probably low-medium settings, given the price point). I hope to keep the total build cost around $600, though the cost will be split between me and a couple other friends, so it is somewhat flexible. Originally, I hoped to aim for the 'Modest' tier on Logical Increments, which would be a RX 570 and a R3 3300X. Turns out though, that we picked the absolute worst time to try to gift a friend a PC, because that RX 570 that is supposed to be only $130, is actually $550+ everywhere I look, which doesn't quite fit the budget. The same seems to be true for every similarly classed graphics card I can find. My new plan would be to make a build with an APU, which the intention that it will hopefully be better than their old laptop as is, and once they save up the money for a GPU, it will be an easy upgrade. From what I've been able to find, a Ryzen 5 PRO 4650G or a Ryzen 5 3400G could be a good fit. They seem to be pretty good processors when paired with a dedicated GPU, and can at least somewhat play games on integrated graphics, based on this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SpG4QjXgzU). I'm able to find a (tray) 4650G for $300, or a (boxed) 3400G for around $250. Based on this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1veFo5cLdo) the 4650 does marginally better, though I'm not sure if that justifies the extra money, and the fact that its a tray processor with no cooler, which would make it even more expensive. As I am typing this out, I'm leaning strongly towards the 3400G. It seems like a fairly capable CPU, so when they've saved up the money, they should be able to buy something like a RTX 2080 and have a very capable system. Does my line of reasoning seem correct, or is there some reasonably cheap CPU+dGPU combo that I'm missing that would be a better fit? Is the 3400G by itself even better than their old laptop? The CPU side of it definitely seems to be, but I'm struggling to get benchmarks between a 860m and 3400G. I imagine just being a new system that doesn't have all the wear and questionable thermals of a 5 year old laptop should be a boost regardless though. Thank you for any help! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Mar 2021 02:31 PM PST I've wanted to buy a PC since Nov/Dec but I was told to wait till Jan/Feb so the prices will drop and parts would be restocked and it seems that didn't happen. And I keep seeing posts like this and this and it's telling me that buying a prebuilt is the best option at the moment. I'd like a PC to do my future work on. I'm not really sure what I want to do with my life yet so I think I'd like to dabble in various things like linux, cybersecurity, virtual machines, game development, programming, IT stuff, etc. I won't really be doing any gaming and the games that I'd like to make are simple 2D ones. I saved up around $2,400 from working as a janitor and I'd like to get the most bang for my buck. I also don't really care about cosmetics. I prefer efficiency over appearance. I'd also be really happy if I didn't have to spend my entire budget. If I could get a good pc that works for my needs and I could still save money I'd be really happy. Is getting a prebuilt my best option at the moment considering the things I want to use a pc for? If so, can someone recommend me one? Or should I still look into building a pc? Thank you. Posted: 03 Mar 2021 12:59 PM PST Hi guys, I wanted to ask if I should go for an amd cpu and gpu combo or for an intel+nvidia, I've had r7 2700x with rtx 2070 witch im going to give to my mom for her job.Ill keep the rtx 2070, and pair the rig with a 1060 instead. My budget is 800$ for the build (without the gpu), I was planning on getting an i9 9900k with rtx 3080. But then i thought i could go for the full amd build with resize bar feature. I know ryzen cpus are better but they have more cores with lower speeds, I personally play cs:go competitively and I see that intel outperforms ryzen in that game by alot (intel also sponsors all csgo LCS games), I only play cs:go , league, valorant. I don't play new or new gen games, my priority is high fps and low input delay (i have an 240hz monitor). So guys it would really help me out if you would recommend anything. I've been planning this build for 2 months now, becouse my moms 6 years old iMac is literally donkey ass and I cant reinstall ios becouse she lost the password. Anyways guys please let me know as I sayd ill be building a pc with no gpu and putting my rtx 2070 currently, then ill sell it and probably buy a 3070/3080. In my country i9 9900k is 415$, while r5 5600x is 420$ [link] [comments] |
Looking for advice/tips before my first build Posted: 03 Mar 2021 01:51 PM PST Hello Community!Monday I will be getting all the parts (I think) to build my first PC! I am both excited and nervous at this prospect. As I anxiously await the arrival of my parts I had a question! What hiccups can I expect with this process? Here's the list of what I'm using: - Ryzen 5 5600x - RTX 3060 Ti - MasterLiquid ML120L V2 RGB - Gigabyte X570 UD Motherboard - Western Digital WD Blue SN500 NVMe SSD - Crucial 2x8GB DDR4-3200 RAM kit - NZXT 750W 80 Plus Gold Power Supply - Corsair 220T RGB case Now I know I need to do the flashback on the motherboard before I put the CPU in it, and to test parts before I start installing in the case. Am I missing anything else major that complete newbies like me may overlook? Many thanks for reading :) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Mar 2021 03:19 PM PST AMD 7 3700X Noctua NH-D15S MSI B550 A Pro EVGA KO Ultra 2060 Corsair Vengeance 32 gb Corsair 750W Phanteks P500 A I was having trouble with my CPU when the debug light was on for it, and looked into it. When I said in my post yesterday that the CPU cooler lifted the CPU also I was told it wasn't supposed to do that. Upon inspection of my CPU I realize when I insert it, if I tap the upper left corner (I hardly put any pressure do not worry. I also lifted the latch before placing and closed it after inserting) it tipped that way meaning it's not fully in. I do not want to put any pressure at all and am frankly scared touching it. Can any of you help me realize why it's not going in? If not I'll take it to MicroCenter and see what they can do. Thanks [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 Mar 2021 01:31 PM PST I saw a 3070 on eBay for 500, and all the reviews are 5 star with 2 others saying not to buy from scalpers. I've never bought anything from Ebay, so Im kind of hesitant to buy the GPU from there, and the seller only had pictures of the box. Would it be a better idea to wait until more GPUS come back to more "trusted" sites than to buy it from Ebay? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Mar 2021 02:55 PM PST I'm not sure if this is the right subreddit to ask this on as I am fairly new to reddit, but I'm looking for help on what parts I would need to get so that I can run games a lot easier as well as stream them. Link to my current prebuilt: https://www.amazon.com/SkyTech-Blaze-Gaming-Computer-Desktop/dp/B07RHBLV7F If I'm on the wrong subreddit then by all means don't hesitate to tell me. [link] [comments] |
B1 and B2 ram slots suddenly stopped working - PC can only post with one stick of ram Posted: 03 Mar 2021 02:43 PM PST Here's my setup: - Ryzen 7 3700x MSI B450 Tomahawk Max Gigabyte RTX 2070 Super 8 GB Windforce Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 (2x8) GB 3200 Mhz ddr4 Samsung 970 Evo Plus Seasonic Focus GX-750 80 Plus I honestly have no idea what happened. One day I left my PC alone without putting it to sleep or anything, then when I woke up I went out for a few hours. By the time I got home (about 6 hrs ish later) all of my fans were spinning at max, the LED on the case wasn't lighting up, and when I wiggled my mouse the display wouldn't turn on. I also noticed that the red CPU debug light on my motherboard was on whenever this would happen. I've looked online for solutions and have done the following so far: - Reseated the CPU, found no bent pins or anything - reset CMOS, tried using optimized settings in BIOS, and updated BIOS to most recent version - Tried using each stick of RAM in A1 and A2 slots, individually. The PC was able to boot up when there was only one stick in one of these slots (haven't tried putting both in A1 and A2 at the same time) but any time I tried to get the dual channel to work by adding a stick to the corresponding B slots, once again, the PC fans would run at max, the CPU debug light was on, and display wouldn't receive any signal. I would get the same result by trying to put only one RAM stick in one of the B slots. Because of this, I don't think the RAM itself is the issue. - Unplugged and replugged the PSU Motherboard cable as well as my drives and SSD (for good measure) - Made sure all other plugs were tightened - Not sure if this is relevant, but a couple months ago I did a clean install of Windows and about a month ago I copied all my data from my old SSD into the one I mentioned in the specs above. That's about all I've done so far. If there's any other suggestions, I'd gladly take them, because I really don't want to have to replace my motherboard if that's the main issue. It's possible that I've received a bad one, however up to this point, I haven't noticed any signs of deterioration over the past half year. If anything stands out, it's that when I move my windows around on the screen it becomes EXTREMELY choppy. Even with only one application running with one window. But this might be a separate issue. On top of this, there have been a couple times when my PC would completely freeze up as a result of the GPU usage (in task manager) going to 100% and I'd have to shut it down from the case. If you've read this far, thanks for taking the time. I've spent almost 10 hours troubleshooting and have been struggling for a while now b/c this is the first PC I've built on my own, but thankfully I can at least run it and continue to do work and play games while I try to fix this issue. If you have any recommendations for a new motherboard (because I honestly don't have time to send this one back and wait for a new one with this being my only useful workstation for uni with all my saved data), I'd gladly take them. TL;DR - my PC won't boot when using 2 sticks of RAM. 1 stick works fine but trying to use the dual channel doesn't work apparently. [link] [comments] |
Clicked refresh at the right time and got a 3070, now I need everything else Posted: 03 Mar 2021 02:34 PM PST Last week I miraculously clicked refresh the moment a 3070 came in stock and was able to buy it. I wasn't expecting to get a GPU so soon, so I've been scrambling to put together a build. How does this look? I'll need wifi, so I went with a MSI MPG Z490 WIFI motherboard. Any glaring flaws in this build? Is the be quiet! 500DX case a good option? [link] [comments] |
Need some advice about choosing a graphics card Posted: 03 Mar 2021 02:32 PM PST Mobo: msi a320m a pro max Psu: cooler master elite v3 600w Cpu: ryzen 5 3400g Ram: 2x8gb 2666mhz Monitor: acer ego series, 144hz, freesync I'm eyeing to purchase a gtx1660 super but I'm not sure if this is compatible with my mobo and psu, I'm new in building a pc, please help me, I want to play division 2 and assassin's creed odyssey. Gtx1660 super is worth 390$ in my country and this is only my budget. If it's not compatible, should I just upgrade my mobo and psu then save my remaining budget for gtx 1660 super? or should I purchase a lower specs gpu? If so, what can you recommend? Sorry for my grammar, English is not my first language. Thanks 😊 [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Mar 2021 02:23 PM PST So, I'm saving money for a PC (I'm thinking to spend quite a lot, at least for me), and I want to learn more about everything, although I already know several stuff, I feel like I could use more info about components and the functioning of a gamer PC, so do you guys know any YouTube channel/ post or something that has information about pretty much everything? Posted: 03 Mar 2021 04:57 AM PST Is getting a used CPU a bad idea? Just looking to upgrade on a budget. It would obviously depend but how used is too used? I'm thinking of a ryzen 5 3600 [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Mar 2021 02:19 PM PST Just built a new pc adding in an rtx 3070 and a 5800x cpu. My motherboard is a Asus tuf x570 which has been updated with the latest bios. I booted the pc and my ram and gpu both light up as well as my fans start spinning. I have a hdmi plugged into one of the two hdmi ports of my gpu. (There's 2 on the gpu and 1 on mobo) I noticed that there is an orange light lit for DRAM on the motherboard top right hand side. (Where it has leds for boot, vga, cpu, and then dram) Freaking out 😅 [link] [comments] |
PSU Upgrade on a Pre Built HP EliteDesk 800g1? Posted: 03 Mar 2021 02:15 PM PST Hi everyone, I'm having a bit of a dilemma with my computer. I have a 2013/2014 HP EliteDesk 800g1 with the intel i7 4770 and the 18e4 motherboard (which is a pain to find much of any compatibility info on). I want upgrade the cpu to the i7 4790k (which from what I can tell seems to be the best cpu you can get for lga1150) and I want to put a 1660ti in it too but my current power supply is only the 320 watt HP power supply that came with the computer, which I don't think would be enough for powering the graphics card and stronger cpu. The issues I'm running into are that I have no idea how to know if a psu is going to have the right cables and after a little research it seems I would have to use a HP specific psu but that doesn't sound right. any help would be much appreciated! High CPU temps with 2 different liquid coolers Posted: 03 Mar 2021 09:36 AM PST Hi all, Hoping someone can help me out. My research has been unsuccessful. After cleaning my case with compressed air in the garage, my CPU temps started to spike upwards of 60 degrees Celsius through even the smallest of tasks. Even opening a web browser will get me above 60. I was getting RPM in both the fan and pump but something was clearly wrong. Thinking the radiator was broken or something, I got a brand new liquid cpu cooler only to find temps doing the exact same thing Starting a simple steam download gets 50% cpu usage on a Ryzen 7 5800x and cpu temp to hit 70 degrees. At this point I have no idea what the culprit is. I've checked and re-done the thermal paste several times but it hasn't helped. I'm starting to fear something is wrong with the processor. Hoping someone here has an idea. If not, are there some more details I should provide? Appreciate the help, I'm at my wits end. EDIT: Apparently these temps are normal. Not sure why I was getting considerably lower temps before but it sounds like I don't have anything to worry about. Thank you all! [link] [comments] |
