My external drive appears to be empty but isnt Posted: 24 Mar 2021 07:11 AM PDT A few days ago my drive was bugging out ant wouldn't allow any data transfer. So I formatted it clearing all the files inside. I tested it again and sure enough it can transfer data now. I installed some applications into it and despite using up around 10gbs of storage, whenever I check This PC it shows that I still have all of my space free like it's empty. What seems to be the problem. Should I not use this drive for anything important? [link] [comments]
Laptop crashes while gaming and its not OVERHEATING issue or faulty adapter. Posted: 24 Mar 2021 11:42 AM PDT So i have acer aspire 7 A715-72g (i5-8300H , GTX 1050 4gb, 16gb 2666mhz ddr4, 1tb hdd@5400rpm) About a year ago I was able to play GTA V and all demanding games for hours and yhe laptop won't crash ( although reached 90°C). But now as soon as i fire up gta v it almost instantly crashes. I cleaned the fans and repasted with good paste but it also didn't help. Limited the CPU to 99% on battery and charger, bumped up fans to 85% all the time. Temps go up to 65°C but not above that. But as soon as i plug in charger, the laptop crashes within 2 minutes. Any idea what might be the problem here ????? [link] [comments]
Computer is only responsive for the first few mins after boot up Posted: 24 Mar 2021 02:16 PM PDT Hey, so ive always used to just put my pc to sleep rather than turn it off, but this time i did and next morning when i turned it back on, weird stuff has been happening. Basically for the first few minutes, everythinv is fine, but after that nothing that i click on the desktop or Taskbar opens up. I can mouse over them and it will highlight the software/apps but if i click them nothing happens, but the apps that i do open in that short window at the beginning remain functional (i can still talk on discord, i can still play a game), browser opens also but doesnt work smoothly and just crashes after a bit. Keyboard shortcuts dont work either, i cant open task manager or alt tab, if i do open task manager in the short time frame and try to restart windows explorer, the screen goes black (i still see my mouse, task manager and taskbar) and if i try to restart it again it doesnt work. It lets me click it but it doesnt work. I tried sys/scannow and check disk /F C: nothing really changed. Would appreciate any kind of help. [link] [comments]
Trying to replace an obscure battery, halp Posted: 24 Mar 2021 02:12 PM PDT So I've got a phoenix 4 phone, cheap, functional. Finally the battery is dying, so I go on Amazon for a replacement and find nothing but one made in china version. It's a lithium ion, type 2500 battery. I saw several with 2600+ would that damage the phone? Halp. [link] [comments]
Posted: 24 Mar 2021 01:57 PM PDT Problem: Would reinstall fresh windows, after installing drivers system will crash, then boot to recovery mode after attempting to reboot 3 time's. Temporary resolution: Removed all Corsair & ROG products. (Keyboard, Mouse, AIO CPU Cooler) Hello all! I started my journey with an older GIGABYTE mobo, RTX 2070 super, intel i5, 4x4 GBS of Ripjaw ram, Corsair K70 RGB keyboard, Corsair H100i, and an Asus ROG Gladius ii. All of these made a decent budget gaming pc till about 5 months ago when it randomly crashed/restarted to log in screen. once I would log in, the system would load a few starts up applications but within 3-5 mins it would restart. Eventually, the system will do a triple restart without posting an image on the monitor then boot into BSOD/Recovery Mode. luckily, I have a spare work laptop around to make a clean windows USB to wipe/restore my system. I tried restoring but the system without the USB at first but for some reason, it wouldn't recognize my password to load a previous restore point (I know FOR A FACT my password was correct), I even went as far as to reset my windows Live password to try and get past this point. after doing this and learning the system will not allow me to restore because I cannot get past the "password for account" prompt, I decided to format all drives and then reimaged my system with a fresh install of Windows. After this installation, my system loaded and posted perfectly fine. I used Disk Manager to format all other storage devices to ensure no malware or system files were leftover from the previous problem. after this I used windows updater to update all drivers, after noticing I need to download icue and rog Armory to be able to control my RGB lighting decided to download the drivers for these peripherals. after opening the installer for icue my device went to a black screen and the lights on my k70 stopped spinning, then a restart would occur. after about 3 system restarts without an image post to the monitor, the system would boot into BSOD/Recovery. after formatting and resetting for the 2nd time, I decided to install my drivers again thinking I'm good if I just install the drivers for ROG and Corsair one at a time instead of both simultaneously then I will not get a crash. I decide to install ROG Armory first, the download would install about 60% of the needed data then CRASH. triple restart into BSOD/Recovery mode. This happened when I tried installing iCue FIRST as well. so eventually I called my buddies and they said it may be an old mobo problem since I'm running such high-end gear on it. I took his advice and upgraded to an ASRock B550 Pro4 & a Ryzen 7 3700X, and 32Gb of G. skill ram. after rebuilding a COMPLETELY NEW system, I tried to reimage it again. everything when smoothly till once again, THE DRIVERS. I then take my time with installing all drivers one at a time because previously I would install about 3-5 drivers at the same time thinking it's all good because I have a high-end CPU (Ryzen 7- 3700X). this time I decided to do everything 1 at a time and restart my PC when the system prompted me to. after taking my time with the Windows driver installations I made an effort to download the rest of my drivers AGAIN. I installed everything excluding my keyboard and mouse drivers. it works! the system was working perfectly fine for multiple hours. I didn't come to the conclusion that my keyboard and mouse drivers were causing my system to fail at the time, so after assuming everything was golden and my PC was in the clear. I started to downloaded/install icue with minutes of the installation I would crash, triple restart into BSOD. I was very fed up and didn't understand why. decided to reimage again for the 3rd time and not install anything related to corsair. I was golden till I decided to finish everything off by installing Armory. 60% of the install was completed before the system once again crashed and triple restart into recovery mode. THIS IS ALL ON A BRAND NEW SYSTEM/MOTHERBOARD. I never checked the "crash files" or "logs" because I didn't know how to or even tried looking up how to, I was more worried about the fact that I built a new system and it's having the same problems as before. this is when I did a massive hardware check on everything connected to the system, I even took it to the micro center and paid $40 for further testing. EVERYTHING PASSED. with a huge head of confusion, I had an idea to just change EVERYTHING that used Icue or Armory, ensuring NOTHING will be installed with those files onto my system. it WORKED! it has been 2 days, and I have installed all drivers with no problems, ran all games on ultra with no problems, I have even overclocked my GPU/CPU with no problems! Even after stress testing for 12 hours. NO PROBLEMS! after multiple tests, I have finally concluded that the software "iCue" and the software "Armory" are combating with something either in my system or in my other peripherals (Monitors, SSD, M.2, Mobo, etc.). Bluetooth Pairing of JBL headset and Pioneer stereo Posted: 24 Mar 2021 08:38 AM PDT I want to help a friend to pair their JBL 65BTNC headphones to a Pioneer XM 20 stereo, but I just can't do it. The manuals of both devices are quite incomplete. The system is set to "pairing", but it won't find the headphones. [link] [comments]
Lenovo E530 not working anymore Posted: 23 Mar 2021 11:44 PM PDT Hi. I issue some problems with my ThinkPad E530. Yesterday I tryed to turn it on, like in a usually day, was not starting, then I realized that the green light that indicates if the charger is connected and charging was turned off. I called the charger broken, fine, I bought another one, this time the laptop turned on, but it was running weird, was laggy, CPU was stuck in like 1.3 ghz, usually it stays in 2.3ish ghz, the fan spinning not stable, going from full speed to low and so on... Tryed to restart but after that not turning on anymore. It's stuck after the "Lenovo" logo, not booting into windows, neither in bios or other menus. I'll leave a video to be more clear. The specs are: I7 3612QM, 8GB RAM DDR3, 120GB SSD, 1TB HDD, INTEL HD 4000. To avoid some things I must say that I tried to boot with only one RAM dimm, then with the other one, tryed to clear the cmos memory, but nothing changed. The thermal paste was changed like 4 months ago. link to video [link] [comments]
Posted: 24 Mar 2021 04:12 AM PDT Hi all, Currently dealing with an incredibly frustrating issue with my PC. Over the last 18 months I have had 4 hdds fail, with another I can hear failing. I work in IT so I'm not inexperienced, but I'm a bit lost and would love some input for the lovely people here on reddit. 3* seagate barracuda 2tb (all 1 year old) failed in 2019/2020, a 3TB toshiba in February 2021 (9 months old) and a 2tb (1 year old) toshiba sounds to be on its way out now. All drives show as pretty much fine in Crystal disk info. Ranging from 2000 power on hours to 15000. I can hear the drives start to fail and games start crashing, but again crystal disk info was showing the drives as fine. Chkdsk found nothing wrong either. I've decided I'm no longer going to buy any Hdds and will be exclusively buying SSD's from now on as I've had a 1tb ssd for exactly the same amount of time as the oldest of those hdds and its outlived that hdd by well over a year. I'm beginning to think I may have a devil of a psu that is bricking sata devices, but I'm not too sure if that is a thing nowadays? It's a gold rated seasonic 700w psu. Does anyone see any risk of completely replacing all hdds with ssds now? Do you think I will see failing drives once again in a few months? I'm hesitant to spend upwards of £70 on a decent psu when I have had no issues with this one except potentially with drives. [link] [comments]
Canon MG2522 is setting ridiculously small margins by default Posted: 23 Mar 2021 05:12 PM PDT I'm trying to help my sister fix this printer issue, but I either am not looking in the right spot or can't find the setting. She has designs she needs to print from CorelDraw 2019, and from MY printer it works fine and prints normal. When she tries to use her Canon printer, it sets smaller margins that cut off easily the bottom inch of the page and about 3/4" of the right side. I cannot find a setting to change the margins anywhere so I'm hoping someone else has has this issue happen that they've been able to fix. Is that just the max print area of the printer? That would be annoying, as it's also a photo printer and should be capable of borderless printing. I have re-installed the drivers as well. [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Mar 2021 03:06 PM PDT Is it normal for these temperatures on this HD with 1% usage on Windows 10 Home?. Thanks in advance!. EDIT1: I use the "Cristal Disk Info". [link] [comments]
