Posted: 22 Mar 2021 02:07 PM PDT I can't believe how f-f-fast the SSD is... Now it feels weird to turn on my laptop and not have time to breath anymore because it starts up so frickin' fast and when I shutdown my laptop: I press the "Shutdown" option in the start menu and literally LITERALLY as I blink once, the laptop shuts down. It's just amazing how amazing SSDs are! It makes my laptop feel like a high end one! [link] [comments]

How much should I sell my 6th gen x1 carbon for with 1440p 500-nit screen? Posted: 23 Mar 2021 11:09 AM PDT Hello! I need some help, I don't really know if I can be asking this question here? But basically I've got an x1 carbon 6th gen lenovo laptop, with that beautiful 500-nit screen and i5 processor specifications... However I have been in a crash recently and the laptop got hit a bit, it's chasis is bent a little (but I have been using it since, the performance didn't seem to get any worse. And it has also some dead pixels (not a lot, but not in single digits), which don't really interfere with work, but sometimes it is visible on some colors of the screen... So I was wondering, whether I could even be hoping to sell it and if yes, what kinda price should I be asking for it, as I said, it still works well, other than those slight defects.. Thank you!! Buying a Thinkpad E14 gen 2 as an upgrade to my current Thinkpad x230. Is this a good deal? Posted: 23 Mar 2021 02:38 PM PDT Hiya there, My actual x230 is pretty old at this point, and what annoys me the most is the battery that only holds little charge now, replacements being very expensive for a laptop that I bought used 2 years ago for less than $100/80€. I was at first considering buying a Macbook Air M1 with 8GB of RAM, which goes for $1200/1000€ in my country, but I have never paid this much for any electronics device and was really doubting my decision. Today, I stumbled upon a deal for a ThinkPad E14 Gen 2 with:
All for the price of $850/700€, or $775/650€ for a resealed unit. I'll be using this laptop for very light gaming (e.g. Terraria, Stardew Valley), Office related activities, Browsing the web, and the occasional Photoshop. I've seen some reviews online, but couldn't figure out the verdict. However, I think this is a pretty good deal, especially with it being a Thinkpad. Have you used this specific Laptop, how is build quality? Some complain the keyboard has a flex and also the plastic started crackling and popping a few months in. Is this actually a good deal, and a good laptop, or should I wait some more for something else? I'm not in a rush to buy a new laptop. Thank you very much. [link] [comments]
CPU Spike after Windows Update Posted: 23 Mar 2021 10:45 AM PDT Hi everyone, I got a Lenovo ideapad Flex 15D. I am currently having a problem so several have surely already encountered. Some of them call it a lagging mouse problem but in fact when i look to the task manager, i see that the processor is having latency problems. Every 2 to 3 seconds, cpu spike. There was a solution i found ( soundcard drivers problem ) so I tried to install new drivers for the sound card, deleted the file fmapp.exe, moreover, fmapp.exe did not appear in the task manager when some says it was . When i format the computer, everything is fine but when comes the time to do updates and installed them, problem comes back. I disabled the sound card, deleted the fmapp files from the computer and even put in the latest drivers from Realtek. I cant find any later bios update. I did look on lenovo diagnostic tool and lenovo support for updates and all was fine. Do not know what to do now. I need a miracle haha. ( Model 20334, MFG date 2013/11/21, bios version Lenovo 94cn05ww ( 2013-10-14 ) , Version SMBios 2.7 ) Using Windows 10 home. I tried Linux mint to see if it wasnt the computer itself, but work well on it. Problem really came with some of the drivers update, but wich one ... Thank you ! [link] [comments]
Thinking of buying a new laptop Posted: 23 Mar 2021 02:17 PM PDT My current laptop is a ThinkPad with intel i5 from 2013 and the battery basically doesn't hold a charge and it's just very old and defeated now. Been thinking about getting a chromebook, I don't really need Microsoft Office on it and won't be using it too often, just every now and again and for personal things I don't want to do on my phone/would need a bigger screen, and I don't like using my work laptop for anything personal. Any recommendations from others who don't use personal laptops a ton but still need it? Chromebook seems like a solid option but haven't around too much yet [link] [comments]

Can anyone recommend a good laptop for working from home? Posted: 23 Mar 2021 02:00 PM PDT I've recently been offered a job, and while I do have a desktop I'd really like a laptop so that I'm able to work from my partner's house where I'm currently in lockdown. My budget would be about £600. Does anyone have any recommendations? [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Mar 2021 04:53 AM PDT My niece needs a Laptop for school because covid and her mom asked me for help. Proplem is while I know quite a lot about desktops I don't know much about laptops. The laptop should be capable of normal office applications. I thought about something like the Acer insperion 15. It got 8 gigabyte ram, a ssd and a Quad-Core for about 600€. Any thoughts on this laptop and/or other recommendations? [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Mar 2021 01:21 PM PDT So I've decided that I would go for the Asus G15 2021 version with the 3070. The only problem is that every model is sold out everywhere with one exception, which are a few single digit stocks of exorbitantly overpriced offers on Amazon such as this one. These prices are at least $400 higher than what are out of stock on Best Buy. I would wait, but last some people went without a laptop for half a year to a year, especially with AMD products. This year seems to be no different with RTX 3000 and Radeon 6000 series stocks being gone in literal milliseconds. So I was wondering whether I should risk it by waiting for better deals to arrive, if they ever do. My current laptop is going to shit the bed probably very soon and I need one before the end of this school year. [link] [comments]

Keeping laptop plugged in even if fully charged safe? Posted: 23 Mar 2021 09:11 AM PDT I have an asus laptop which has a non removable battery. I've been using it all day for online class and programming while it is plugged in the outlet. I notice that once it reaches 100% it draws power from the outlet and not the battery. Is it okay to keep it plugged all day? [link] [comments]

He's super worried about it and came to ask me for help since I'm the older siblings. Thisnis I don't really know what to do but I don't want to let him down. This heres the picture of the laptop. Anyway to fix it or does it need to go to a shop? Once again sorry for a stupid question. [link] [comments]

Dell Precision M4800 (And Precision models in general) vs. Thinkpad T420 Posted: 23 Mar 2021 11:33 AM PDT Hello. I'm looking to buy a new laptop to use as my main computer, mainly for Python programming and some low level Altium design. I wouldn't need to travel that much with it, so I guess I'm more inclined to something perhaps a bit bigger and heavier but with a good performance and a good build quality. My first choice was a Thinkpad T420, a classic, with the following specs: intel i5 (I think the 2520, 2 cores), 8GB of RAM DDR3, HD Graphics 300, a 500GB HDD, and the lousy 1366x768 display. I can upgrade the RAM and add an SSD fairly easy, but I'm not confident I can pull the screen replacement myself. I'm mainly interested in this because of the keyboard, its cheap price, and the fact that the T420 is a classic. My question with this model is, do you think it could be used as a daily machine in current year? Or will it be a bit slow for Pycharm/Altium? Does anyone here use this model for any of that? Second choice is a Dell Precision M4800. Specs: i7 4610m quad core, 8GB of DDR3 RAM, 2GB NVIDIA QUADRO K2100, a Full HD display, and a 500GB HDD. So specwise it's definetely above the T420. Again, I can expand the RAM easily and add an SSD. Screen is supposedly also very good. It's almost double the price than the T420, but I guess that makes sense. My question with this model is, is how "good" is it? Are Precisions in general regarded as highly as Thinkpads? Will the added specs provide a noticeable effect on what I have to do? I suppose that workstations like these should probably hold up pretty well in terms of build quality, so it doesn't seem to be a bad choice... But perhaps somebody here has experience with any of the Precisions or the M4800 in particular and can give me some help. (Unrelated perhaps, but as a middle ground I found a Dell Latitude 7490 with an i5 8650U, quad core, 8GB RAM DDR4, and integrated graphics. Not sure if this falls as in the category of business laptop, but thought it worthwhile to mention in anyhow) TL;DR I'm looking for a used laptop for Python/low Altium work. Considering an old T420 or a M4800 with highes specs but almost double the price. Would like to know if the added specs would be a big help and also if anyone has any experience with Precisions in general and the M4800 in particular. Thanks for reading. [link] [comments]
