HP ENVY x360 - AFFORDABLE 13'' BEAST Posted: 30 Mar 2021 03:55 AM PDT Hi, I do not even know where to start. I will try to explain my struggle first and then move on to the topic. So I had a laptop Lenovo G series ( i3-5005U, 2GHz, Intel HD graphics 5500, 8GB Ram) for almost 6 years. It is still good, but hinges has broken. So I decided maybe it is time for new laptop. I am still student at University, but I do also work in the logistics company. So I wanted something light, reliable, portable (13'') - ultrabook - but also from time to time I would like to do some light gaming - big fan of AoE2DE and Rimworld - so iOS is off the table. I was so convinced to get Dell XPS13 (2020), but when I have seen some videos and red some articles where, people are complaining about heat issues/overheating. I have stepped back from this device immediately, there is no way I am buying laptop that starts at 1400e which will have issues with cooling and could not go to sleep/save mode after you close him. I would like to mention that some people did not experienced this issues at all. But it is a HIT or MISS situation. I did not wanted to buy anything from ACER or ASUS either, I am bit skeptical about those two companies. I did liked a lot Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano, but it starts at 1600e in my country. Unfortunately :( and also Lenovo ThinkPad X13, but also I would not have specs that I do have for much lower price. So I was little bit stuck between HP Spectre x360 and HP Envy x360. But when I have seen reviews and benchmarks. It was decided. Envy won in every category for me. So I decided to go with HP Envy x360, oh boy I can not express how happy I am to get laptop in that price range to have these specs. - AMD Ryzen 7 4700U, touch display 13.3" IPS - 400 nits, 1920 × 1080, RAM 16GB DDR4, AMD Radeon Vega 7, SSD 512GB - you can upgrade your SSD card if 512GB is not enough for you. I will probably upgrade it, because of games that takes a lot of space. Apart from specs, it is unbelievable experience, laptop does weight 1,3kg. Keyboard is nice to feel, touchpad is very responsive. 16GB of ram does provide smooth browsing and editing of some videos. No stutters. You can flip him to tablet mode because it is 2in1, convertible laptop. You will receive also pen, which is helpful for people that would like to draw. Speakers, Bang & Olufsen, great sound in overall. Fingerprint reader is nice feature as well. Huge percentage of laptops do have Intel processor with also integrated Intel Graphic Card. I can tell you from my personal experience, AMD is a game changer - why? Because it was able to achieve similar or even better (in some cases) performance for less money than Intel. Thanks for reading, feel free to ask questions. [link] [comments] |

15 inch Laptop to be used for regular zoom meetings and desktop use through thunderbolt ~$1000 USD Posted: 30 Mar 2021 03:26 AM PDT Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: ~$1000 USD or less Are you open to refurbs/used? No How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? This will almost always be used at a desk with semi-regular portable use. Build quality > performance > battery How important is weight and thinness to you? Not too heavy would be nice, thinness is not really important. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Somewhere around 15 inches, it will be used by people with poor eyesights so the larger screen will make a difference. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. This computer is going to be replacing a desktop that should only be performing light computing tasks like email and document editing, although I would like it to be able to run a 4k monitor if possible. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? N/a Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Solid build quality, as well as nice keyboard and touchpad would be nice. Must have thunderbolt support as I am planning to use it in place of a desktop using a thunderbolt dongle., Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. The goal is to use this in place of a desktop by using a thunderbolt dongle to connect it to power, monitors and existing peripherals and then have the ability to use it portable for zoom meetings in other rooms as well as perhaps some online school work. Does not need to be overly powerful but I would like something that will not "slow down" for a few years to come [link] [comments] |
What’s the best gaming laptop I can buy for less than $1500 USD? Posted: 30 Mar 2021 02:41 AM PDT I would also like to know about how loud these get because it will be my first time buying one. And are there any specifications about monitor compatibility because I plan on using an external monitor and KBM. I want something with an AMD but intel would work too. I want to be able to stream on it with an external monitor on it as well on twitch. I will be playing games like Valorant, Apex, and LoL. [link] [comments] |
MacBook Air m1 v aced aspure 5 Posted: 30 Mar 2021 02:33 AM PDT I'm looking to get my first laptop and I don't know weather to choose between the MacBook Air with the m1 chip or the acer aspire 5 I just want it for general use like watching stuff and eventually will need it for college work I'm very tech illiterate so I don't know what specs I would like all I want is an 8gb ram and good screen quality, I'd like it to last a few years aswell, I'd like to keep my budget as small as possible but if the MacBook is actually worth it I wouldn't mind spending extra if i think of anything to add I will edit the post ✌️ [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Mar 2021 01:44 AM PDT • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: 3000 BAM, would go up to 3500 BAM for a really good one, BiH • Are you open to refurbs/used? No • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Good performance, good battery life, build quality. I want standard clamshell laptop and no need for touch screen either. • How important is weight and thinness to you? I would prefer lighter and more portable laptop (up to ~2kg) but it's not crucial. I just don't want bulky gaming laptops. • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 14 – 17 inch • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. It would be mainly used for development (bunch of different programs and dual boot systems, win + linux) and casual gaming. • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Witcher 3, GTA 5. Settings don't matter just to be playable. • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Web camera at standard position on the top. • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Dedicated graphics is a must. CS student laptop (budget $1500 or so) Posted: 29 Mar 2021 09:34 PM PDT Hey guys, I've decided it might be time for a new laptop. My desktop is proving to be way too cumbersome to move in and out of the dorm, and it turns out some laptops are actually more powerful in terms of hardware nowadays. I'm looking to do some mid-tier gaming, maybe some rendering and plenty of coding. Ideally, I'd like something with at least a 1660ti but not something with a "gaming" aesthetic. I'm not really particular about extra bells and whistles like fingerprint readers, touch screens or the way the keyboard feels. Hopefully there is something within this price range, but I'm a little flexible there too. Thanks a lot! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Mar 2021 09:16 PM PDT Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: My budget is ~$1000 but if somebody knows about a good laptop for less than that that'll get the job done then I'm all for it. Are you open to refurbs/used? No How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Having good performance at the cost of battery life is okay, I don't plan on having it off the charger very much. How important is weight and thinness to you? Weight is a non factor, it could be made of bricks if it does what I need it to do haha. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Something around 15.6 is fine. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Gaming mostly, not really doing any video/photo editing. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I mostly play Civilization and various party games with friends on steam that are pretty easy to run. If it can run civ 6 at a stable 60 fps late in the game then I'll be satisfied. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Having a numpad us pretty much the only specific requirement I need. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Thank you for your help and suggestions! Like I mentioned early although my budget is 1k I'm open to spending less than that if it meets my needs without going overboard. [link] [comments] |
Just got accepted into college for Engineering! Haven't bought a laptop in 10+ years... Posted: 29 Mar 2021 05:14 PM PDT Hello r/SuggestALaptop! This is my first time posting, so I sincerely apologize if I sound like an overly-needy an hyper-specific shopper who wants everything in one package! I haven't bought a nice laptop in so many years that I have no clue what the current state of tech looks like, so any suggestions and tips are welcome! So... big news. I just got accepted into Texas A&M's College of Engineering! I'm going to be moving across the country to attend this school and I've also been saving up for years for this moment, so I have a budget of around $3,000 to work with. I've owned a couple of laptops, mostly for work, but I'm going to need a computer for school as a course requirement. My life philosophy has always been to save money but spend it where it matters. With more and more of life slowly transitioning to the virtual world, I feel like a quality laptop is something that can contribute enormously to someone's performance, productivity, and overall happiness while working. I'm not nearly educated enough to make this decision on my own, so thank you everybody for helping a friend out! A&M has a portal for buying laptops through their preferred dealer, I'll post the models and prices below as I have no idea whether the deals are actually any good or not. I'm not limited to the list that they recommend, however, as there is a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program. I love typing and the first thing I notice about any laptop is the keyboard and trackpad. When at home, I plan on setting up a workstation with some nice peripherals, but a quality keyboard and trackpad are an absolute must. I'd prefer a screen over 13", as I've tried reading electrical schematics on that size of screen and although doable, it's incredibly painful. I will need a built-in webcam and microphone, but the quality of those isn't super important (and I think that almost all laptops have those included nowadays). I suspect that most of my work will be a combination of writing documents (Office 365), internet browsing, programming with Anaconda (python) and Pycharm. One of my hobbies is recording music and I plan on getting started learning a DAW like Ableton Live. Without further ado, le form: The FormLAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
A&M has the following requirements for a laptop:
Here is a list of machines that are recommended by the school and through the student portal I can get a "special price." And holy cow, I had no idea when making this list that the information would be so sparse, but hopefully this information is remotely useful? If I can attach more information for these models, let me know and I'll do my best!

Macbook pro Replacement for Amateur Photo editing, and light work Posted: 30 Mar 2021 12:45 AM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
Around £800, can go a bit more
Refurbs yes, used no.
Performance and build quality most important
Not the priority
13/14 inches if possible
Will be used for Autocad (and possibly Revit) I use Capture 1 20 for photo editing and have a reasonably sized catalogue Will be used otherwise for day to day stuff
N/a
I would err on the side of having more storage space, looking at 1TB. I'm unsure abour RAM as I had thought that 16GB was a baseline that you wanted to hit for future proofing, but it seems a majority of machines have 8GB.
I'm coming from a Macbook Pro that I have had now for 6 years, so longevity is important for me. Happy to spend more for a machine that will last a reasonable amount of time. Thanks! eta: The machine that I currently used was configured with a 500GB HDD and 4GB RAM when I bought it, and I upgraded these myself, so I am comfortable with a machine that is upgradable either now or in the future if the configuration I have in mind isn't readily available [link] [comments] |

Help me choose between these two laptops (or recommend something better) Posted: 30 Mar 2021 12:19 AM PDT I'm thinking of getting the dell Inspiron 3000 ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08NQ1VX6Z/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_8WAZAVYETG946MWV113A?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 ) or Lenovo idea pad ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B088FVRD95/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_4DGE090H8B61RTDQMWZB?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 ). I need a laptop that can handle a few apps at the same time without getting ridiculously slow (discord, figma, webflow, zoom). Both of these seem like good options but I've also seen some bad reviews. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Mar 2021 11:44 AM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
1000 USD, can be a bit higher but only slightly.
No.
I would want the performance first. I would want the build quality to be quite good, and a great battery life.
14-17 inches
I am most likely going to run The Sims 3 or 4, Stardew Valley, and Minecraft. I also desire to run a program used for music production such as Ableton Live. I might be using some school programs as well.
Decent keyboard, audio/headphone jack, easily portable. 8 GB RAM is the minimum that I would want, and 16 GB RAM is the maximum.
I guess I can summarize it. So I travel from one house to another so I'd want my laptop to be easily portable. I'd want things to run smoothly so minimal to no lag. I do live in the United States, however not in the Continental USA. So I'd want the laptop to be from a company that I am familiar with such as Amazon. My budget is $1000, however it can be a bit higher but not too high. Looking forward for your suggestions [link] [comments] |

Posted: 29 Mar 2021 11:59 AM PDT Well as the title says I'm looking for a new laptop, and my price range is $800 max, aiming for $700. Overall I know that isn't a lot of money for one. Overall this laptop won't be for gaming, it's mainly to use to load pictures up from a camera I use, and to look at them, and such. Also the laptop will likely be used for web browsing, and maybe a bit of watching Netflix, and video services like that. I have personally did a little bit of looking yesterday, but there's a lot of options out there, and I don't want to buy something that's junk, and has some issues that are annoying to deal with. So I'm hoping someone on here, who deals with laptops regularly, might be able to suggest some laptops, that fit my need, and within my price range. I appreciate any help, and comments.

Good Gaming Laptop / US / $1000 ~ $1500 Posted: 29 Mar 2021 01:24 PM PDT Hello! I have a laptop for school that's okay, but I would prefer to actually be able to play games on it with friends. My laptop KO'd. Not sure what's on the market for light gaming and web dev programming. Posted: 29 Mar 2021 09:24 PM PDT
No.
I prefer performance first, with a solid battery life (at least easily upgradable), and solid build quality. Form factor is also important, but not a deal breaker.
Thinness isn't a big deal, however I don't want to hulk around something heavy.
Around 14-15.6 inches.
I'd use it occasionally for gaming and Photoshop. However, I'd mainly use it for web browsing, Netflix, and light programing (MySQL, Javascript, etc.)
I'd like to be able to play games such as Hades, Overwatch and Dota 2 on medium to high settings.
It should have a durable keyboard and have reliable build quality. Touch screen isn't the end -all-be-all. My work laptop and monitor take up a lot of space on my desk, so being able to easily use it on a couch, bed and overall mobility is ideal. It should have at least 8 GB of RAM and must have SSD. It would be nice if it had HDMI and USB-C.
Some devices that peek my curiosity:
