Can my HP 15-da0xxx laptop support 2 monitors? (1 3440x1440 Viotek and another 2k BenQ)

    Posted: 25 Feb 2021 01:23 PM PST

I just ordered a Viotek GNV34DBE and a BenQ BL2420PT with the intention of eventually doing a full build, but in the mean time I plan on using my laptop to run both monitors via a docking station. Given my model laptop, the fact that it's only got USB and HDMI ports, and the specs of the monitors (Viotek is 3440x1440 144hz and BenQ is 2k 60hz), is this ghetto rigged system even going to work?

Laptop protection plans experience, Microcenter and/or Asurion? Worth the hassle in my case?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2021 01:22 PM PST

Saw this Surface Book 2 demo unit listed as new in stock (compared to other stores had the same demo unit in "open box"), tried my luck to see if it was really "new" old stock, but unfortunately it was indeed a demo unit with some significant scratches/wear on base, although the screen is spotless and battery wear is normal (about 80-88% remaining after two years).

Microsoft officially verified it and told me it won't be covered by mfr whatsoever. I looked at the used SB2 price on ebay/swappa, what I got was not a "deal" price, it falls in the normal range used price.

I was about to return it for refund, but thought about the cashier guy preached the protection plan, for the price I paid for this laptop, it would be 270 for 3 year (accident or purchase date plan). I heard that SB2's reliability would be a hit or miss, and compared to straightup buying used on ebay/swapp, this purchase has one advantage with the retail receipt, I should be able to add on those 3rd party warranty, be it MC's protection plan or say, from squaretrade/Asurion at Amazon (Cheaper).

Is it worth the hassle at all? I actually never used any warranty on any of my previous laptops, so no personal experience filing a claim. Would like to hear some of your inputs.

    Thanks a lot.

    Laptops for Video editing

    Posted: 25 Feb 2021 12:50 PM PST

Hi guys, currently entering the market for a laptop that will cost me less than £450 ($631) that would be suitable for my video editing and photo editing needs. Realistically I'm looking for: 8GB RAM 256GB SSD 1080p display. Came here as I'm not too clued up on laptops compared to cameras and phones lol, any help and suggestions are greatly appreciated, I'm already considering a Huawei Matebook D but is just a bit out of my price range and I cannot step up to the extra £149

Used Lenovo Yoga 530 for £370, is that a good deal?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2021 11:18 AM PST

Ryzen 2500u 2.0ghz, 8GB, 256GB SSD. Come with 12 month warranty as it's from cashgen.

Don't need anything super powerful, only plan on using it for general use, media consumption and possibly some light gaming.

Seems to be cheaper than they go for on eBay so I guess I could get my money back if it's no good?

I know ThinkPads generally have a good reputation, are these Yoga's any good?

    Acer R5-571t-57z0 Question - Idea

    Posted: 25 Feb 2021 11:04 AM PST

    Guys, I'm curious.

I have the above model with the original i5 motherboard, but I wonder if anyone has swapped a similar board from one of the i7 variants?

    for example - r5-571TG-78G8

initial (brief) inspections shows the ports and screw holes are in similar locations - so I wonder about it, but also wonder if any of you have done it?

    ANNOYING BUZZING SOUND

    Posted: 25 Feb 2021 10:50 AM PST

    I've recently purchased a Lenovo gaming 3 with a Ryzen 7 4000 series cpu and a gtx 1650 gpu.

Only a week after the purchase a weird buzzing sound could be heard from the left side of the laptop whilst playing a game.

Now I know for sure it's not the fan because it's on the right side of the laptop.

I was wondering if there is a fix for this problem, and if so how can I fix it?

I am from Canada, and I am looking for one of these 2 laptops to buy. Cost isn't an issue amongst these two. I was actually surprised by the 20GB RAM for the Acer Aspire at that price, but I was wondering if there was a catch to this I am missing. Is there something I am missing? My priority is finding a laptop for work (will need to run quite a few applications simultaneously). Gaming isn't a priority.

More processor vs more RAM. Which is better?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2021 09:28 AM PST

Let me borrow your expertise for a moment. I'm doing some new laptop shopping this week and I have it narrowed down between 2 HP Laptops. I'm working on a budget, so with this limitation and the final total be close to equal, would you choose the HP with an intel core i7 and only 16 GB of RAM, or the HP with the intel core i5, but with 32 GB of RAM?

A little context, I'm a video editor, so this computer's most taxing function will be processing and rendering media files. So a lot of RAM will help with that. I've also read mixed reviews about the i5 vs the i7 on a laptop.

Supposedly, the thermal restrictions along with battery limitations would mean either processor wouldn't be able to come close to the listed clock speed. So it seems to suggest that getting the lower processor would be better because these limitations cap both processor's performance to a certain level anyways. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
