Is there a way to force your phone to directly use power from its usb connection only? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 09:08 PM PST Given that lithium batteries tend to degrade faster with constant charging, is there a way to stop the phone from using the usb to charge the battery once it is at 100%? Instead, draw power directly from the usb cable. I'm asking because I tend to place my phone in a usb power dock when working at my computer. [link] [comments] |
Tethering my Laptop to my Phone Posted: 25 Feb 2021 09:38 PM PST As a hypothetical, if i was to tether my laptop to my phone and my phone is connected to a wifi network, would then my laptop be using data from that wifi network or would my phone default to using my phone data? I'm not sure where else I could find the answer as googling it is difficult given the explanation. [link] [comments] |
Is there a good & lightweight comic reader for an old phone? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 01:00 PM PST I'm seeking for a decent comic reader for a Samsung Galaxy Young. (A 7- year old basic (oh, how basic) phone, mine running android 4.4 KitKat) This phone's got a minuscule display, so I need zoom functionality (how could any normal person read in a 3,5" screen with a 480x320 resolution?), which in most readers I've tested (For example: Librera) works weirdly, either creating weird clones of the pages, either being too sensible to page changes (Anyone would be tired of trying to come back to a page for the 11th time because it got too close to the margin). Also, this phone's got the same speed of a drunk snail, so most of them don't quite work and end up crashing due to it. I can't recall exactly how many readers I've used, but here are the ones that I remember: - Librera (Creates weird clones of pages, dunno why) - CoolReader (Doesn't even load comics, dunno why I tried it) - Comic Screen (Nice but doesn't load fast enough the pages (3+ minutes)) - Sky Reader (Crashes due to slow processing power) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2021 10:01 PM PST So for some reason, in the internal storage that I can currently manage, I have 31.5 GB of 32 GB used, even though the size of the things I can manage is 816 KB. Even then, the system memory is 9 GB so I don't know where all this extra storage is coming from. If anyone knows how to fix this, do tell. I use a micro sd card and my phone is a Galaxy A20. Posted: 25 Feb 2021 06:44 PM PST I've got a "silent notification" for a voice-mail. It cannot be cleared. I do not have any voicemails remaining. I have tried clearing the "Phone" app data and cache. So, any ideas? I'd be down to revert somehow too, this new UI is trash and it already has an irritating bug. QA was sleeping hard this time around. [link] [comments] |
Any way to preview an "app provided sound" notification? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 08:47 PM PST Whenever I go into the notifications of an app that has the sound set to "app provided sound", there does not seem to be a way to preview this sound. In fact, after selecting "Sound" it brings up the list of available notification sounds, and if I immediately tap the Back button, without even selecting a sound, it still automatically changes it to "Default notification sound". Since "app provided sound" is nowhere to be found in the list of available sounds, I'm not sure what I am supposed to do. So I guess my questions are:

Is kingroot still reliable in 2021 Posted: 25 Feb 2021 08:36 PM PST I've been needing some sort of root that doesn't need an unlocked bootloader, I used kingroot once before but I don't know if it's still good. And there's a bunch of kingroot websites I don't know which one is the real one. [link] [comments] |
Any way to check Wifi connection log and phone bootup log? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 11:42 PM PST Is there a way to check Wifi connection log and phone bootup history without root? I'm on Android10 Pixel3XL. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Still receiving texts on Old android phone after a month after turning off RCS Posted: 25 Feb 2021 07:30 PM PST Switched from Google Pixel to iPhone over a month ago but I'm still receiving texts on my Pixel even after turning off RCS immediately after. Does anyone have any solution to this because I'm very annoyed with this. [link] [comments] |
Is there an alternative to Google Speech Recognition? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 11:12 PM PST I'm a former Windows 10 Mobile user and I've reluctantly purchased a Surface Duo, my first Android device ever. My carrier is AT&T. I'm trying to go with Microsoft and/or Amazon services in lieu of Google ones as much as possible. I've setup Alexa as my Assist app on the "Assist and Voice input" screen, but I've noticed that on the same screen it lists "Google Speech Recognition" as the default for voice input, and when I try to change it no other alternatives appear in the list. So it looks like I should be able to change it in theory, but in practice I can't find anyone talking about alternatives to whatever Google Voice Recognition provides here. I really just want to at least know what the alternatives are so I can try them out, because I keep finding stuff that's totally unrelated. All I can find the Assist apps along the lines of Alexa that only replace the Assist function, or else random keyboards with voice input. I'm really looking for something I can choose in place of the Google Voice Recognition thing on that screen. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2021 04:45 PM PST Around a month or two ago, I remember looking into YouTube Vanced. I don't remember if I download it or not, but I want to make sure I didn't. Is there a way to search for it on my phone? I checked the download & APK folder on the "My Files" app. I also went through the app list on my phone including system apps. There was nothing there. Does this mean that YouTube Vanced was never on my phone? Like I said, I cannot remember if I downloaded it or not. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2021 06:34 PM PST Hi. I bought the 4a last week and it came on Monday, and as soon as I turned it on and began transferring my information from my old phone, the screen went black and stayed that way for awhile. Now, whenever I press down on the screen slightly, the screen glitches out and turns black. I didn't do a single thing to it, all I did was take it out the box. What's the best option? Do I send it into Google to get it repaired via the warranty, or just send it back to Amazon, get my money back, and order a new one. I'm a rookie when it comes to this, so I'm sorry if these questions are dumb. Thanks in advanced! [link] [comments] |
Recover Pictures from a Phone with No Screen? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 04:17 PM PST Hi. I have a broken Motorola One with a slightly unusual fault. The screen became loose from the phone, and eventually was only held on by a ribbon connector. I had glued around the screen to hold it in place, but after dropping it the screen became fully detached with the ribbon connector snapping. I decided on just getting a new phone after looking into a repair. When setting up the new phone I realised none of my pictures from the broken one were synced to my google back-up. Is there any way to get on to the old phone to retrieve the photos? I've been unable to see the device when plugging it into my computer via USB for a file transfer. I had thought to try a screen mirroring program but I assume that wouldn't work if the phone's not recognised. It's battery drained, after charging I'm unable to unlock it. Is there any software that would allow access for file transfer or screen mirroring without the phone being unlocked? Any help would be greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
A better keyboard than the one Samsung provides with the galaxy s20+ Posted: 25 Feb 2021 06:07 PM PST My god, the keyboard Samsung provided with their phone is like the took the one I was fine with on the s7, and decided to make it awful. The dictionary it came with was put together by a puritan so anything related to sex or sexuality directly (like "lesbian" "homosexual" or "penis") isn't programed in, as well as words that can be sexual but aren't inherently (like "suck" "lick" or "jerk"). But it has Naxos, the name of an island off the coast of Greece, because that's definitely a more commonly used word. For some reason it fucking loves capitalizing the word Healthcare, even though I've deleted the capitalized version from the phone's dictionary a dozen times. If I get too close to the space bar while using swype, it assumes I want a single letter and a smaller word, but if I go to another row for a letter in the word I want, half the time it ignores that and gives me a word that uses none of the letters from a row I went to during the swype. It's maddening how garbage this keyboard is. Does anyone know of a better alternative? [link] [comments] |
Help flashing my Huawei P9 lite Posted: 25 Feb 2021 04:12 PM PST Hello, I have this Huawei P9 lite. It's Android 6 and Emui 4.1.1. Can I connect to my own tethered hotspot? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 03:09 AM PST So, I have the following issue: I have a robot vacuum cleaner (ecovacs) that can be controlled with an app. The communication between app and robot works when the robot and phone are connected to the same WLAN network, which, in turn, should be connected to the internet. Now, in my case, I only have mobile internet at home, and I just tether my phone (Moto G8 Power, Android 10) to use internet on my pc. This is fine in most cases, since 4G is good enough and I have an unlimited data plan. But it doesn't work with my robot: I can, of course, connect the robot to my phone's WiFi hotspot, but then I can't use the app on the same phone - I'd need a second phone, on which I would install the app, and connect it to the hotspot generated by the first phone. But this is unwieldy. Is there a way in which I can have my phone both generate the hotspot, and be a client of that same hotspot? I found that someone asked a similar question here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/p3vn4/is_it_possible_to_connect_to_your_own_tethered/ but that was 9 years ago, are there any new solutions? [Question] Does the GPS/Location turn on automatically for you since the last update? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 02:46 PM PST About a week or two ago there was a new update and I update my phone. Now every time I turn on my Wi-Fi it turns the location on automatically. I have completely disabled all GPS/Location permissions in the settings but it sill turns on. There was a notification when I first updated some BS about it improving the internet quality but it isn't important to me, they can already track the crap out me with my phone I just like to make it a little harder. MD5/SHA1 comparison of Google Play vs APKPURE? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 02:43 PM PST Yeah, how might one do that? I figure it's easy enough to download the apk from APKPURE, but I'm unsure how to make a direct comparison to what I would get via Google Play. Where would I start? [link] [comments] |
Is there a way to keep the most updated APK downloaded on my phone but not have it installed? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 02:14 PM PST I hate having apps run in the background that I only use every couple months (either they track your habits or send push notifications or do who knows what else), but would prefer to not have to go through the google play store to redownload the app whenever I want to use it. I know you can turn settings off such as allowing push notifications, device location etc, but often times I would like to allow those for the day or two I use an app and then not have them when I no longer want to use it. Posted: 25 Feb 2021 05:52 PM PST I'm trying to set up a secondary user on my android phone, so that I can switch between my private and work emails etc on the same phone. I've added the user in Settings, logged in with my Google account, but when I switch to that user, and is asked to setup the user, I get stuck in an infinite loop of two screens. First I have to accept a lot of terms and conditions, then enable various Google services (location), and then I'm taken to a screen, where I can connect to wi-fi. However clicking next after the wi-fi takes me back to the services screen, and I'm stuck in Groundhog Day timeloop continually taken between the services and wi-fi screens. Only way out, seems to be clicking back a lot of times, until I'm given the option to cancel and delete this new user, and go back to my first user. Any advice? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2021 01:29 PM PST Just updated to andriod 11 on a galaxy s10. The app screen background is now grey and I hate it so much. It used to just show the app draw over your wallpaper. Now it has this nasty grey overlay. Is there anyway of fixing this or do I have to completely downgrade back to Android 10? [link] [comments] |
When I take pic, can't I immediately direct it to a Specific Folder? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 04:30 PM PST Hi, instead of just immediately going to a general "pictures" folder, can't I direct it to specific folders within the Pictures folder, like adding a youtube video to a playlist with even an option to make a new playlist. Just seems kind of odd that I don't see any such option. I have pics that I take immediately be uploaded to Google Photos btw. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2021 08:48 AM PST Tl:dr after a restart today my phone has decided to sort anything I attempt to attach to emails, texts, uploads, etc by oldest first. Anyone got any ideas on where to even look to reverse this? edit: correction, it's actually swapped the order of which gallery is being sorted first and is putting the archived photos off my old phone first. still no idea why this is the case though. edit 2: solved it. has something to do with the SD card deciding it's primary storage or something. I dunno, I'm a forester not a software engineer. unmounting and mounting the sd card fixed the issue. e3: nevermind, temporary solution. problem persists. [link] [comments] |
I messed up Big Time (Accidental Factory Reset) Posted: 25 Feb 2021 12:12 PM PST I know that there are probably thousands of posts on here with the same silly issue, however, I really need to know what to do in this situation. My phone (Samsung Galaxy J7 V) somehow did a factory reset out of the blue and I lost all of my data aside from a few contacts I had backed up. Nothing else was backed up (to my knowledge) on the phone or through google. This happened less than 24 hours ago. What I should have done in this situation was not do anything to the phone, but I was stupid and started using it because it did this mid important conversation, and I had to reply because it was time-sensitive. This means that I redownloaded Textra, and sent maybe about 50-60 messages total to various contacts. I realize that I shouldn't have been using it if I want to get my data back, and I was wondering if there is any way that I still can. I can provide more information if necessary, please let me know if there is anything I can do. 🙏 [link] [comments] |
Why do only TWO browsers support chrome extensions? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 06:45 AM PST The only two I know of - and believe me I've tried over 50 chromium based android browsers - support chrome extensions - Kiwi and Yandex. Technically only one of these two fully support them too, yandex started getting "not compatible" instead of "add extension to chrome" in the past year or two. Why is this? obviously the software developers are more than capable of integrating chrome extensions, aren't they? Or is there something differently drastic with Mobile vs Desktop when it comes to handling .crx files? Personally, I don't think this is the case. I think the case is that Google is purposely discouraging developers against adding extension support due to the high prevalence of effective adblocker extensions interfering with the massive revenue they haul in from google ad services. What do you guys think? [link] [comments] |
