TIL AutoZone sells thermal paste (in a pinch) Posted: 26 Feb 2021 10:44 PM PST So my launch PS4 was overheating on my wife playing God of War with HDR toggled on. It's been years since I took it apart and gave it a good swabbing, so I broke it on down and discovered the oem thermal paste was toast. "Cool, I'll just run down to Fry's Electronics and...oh yeah, right." So I Google local retail results, and I find this at AutoZone: https://www.autozone.com/miscellaneous-cleaners-and-degreasers/heat-sink-compound/19189_0_0 I was skeptical as heck at first, until I stumbled on this review with 38 thumbs up: "Chuckaluck · 2 years ago Worked for me I bought this to put into a computer between the cpu and heat sink. It worked and it was enough for what I used it for. But the box and the packets were tiny. There was enough for me to do two computers as much is needed for a cpu." I went for it, and it's actually decent compound, same kind of cheapy stuff you'd find dressed up in a syringe for $10-$15, just comes in 2 little packets that look like Toaster Strudel frosting. Half of one was enough for a nice Edit: American, terrible at metric estimation. [link] [comments] |
