Sold my iPhone 12 mini for a mi10t pro. Just a little rant on my experience with the iPhone for 2 weeks.

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 09:12 AM PST

So I recently sold my iPhone 12 mini and bought a mi10t pro that costs 3/4 of that the iPhone and what a world of difference. The speed, typing experience, use and everything just seems so fluid. Don't get me wrong, the iPhone does have its pros like the nice size and the incredible a14 bionic chip but everything else is just downright trash. I didn't want to be bias coming from my experience with Android but I used be an iPhone user so I know both sides pretty well. But the last 2 weeks has been nothing but frustration.

    1) battery. It's so bad that I had to charge it every 4-5 hours or else I might be out of juice if I go through till the end of the day. Not a fan of charging phones overnight. Also depends on usage. I get an average 5-6 hours of screen on time but the battery depletion means I have to charger it overnight when I go to sleep so no no

    2) charging speeds were abysmal. 18w max fast charging. And whenever I charge and use the iPhone, the phone becomes wonky. Like it struggles when I type something fast or tap into something cause it feels like there's an input lag during the charge maybe for battery conservation. I don't know.

    3) ugly notch. It's 2021 and iPhone still dishes out a damn notch. It's so annoying to watch video content with that crap hanging by the side.

    4) lack of touch id. Face id is fast but it's so bloody annoying having to type my passcodes every single time when I'm wearing a mask. It gets even more annoying when you're required to log into banking system and you have to pull down your mask every bloody time.

    5) fucking camera lens flare. I swear, this was the icing on the cake that got me wanting to to sell it so bad. Not an avid photographer but I know do know photography since I used to own and play around with dslrs. For a $1000+ phone (price in my country), you get lens flare thats understandably found on cheap budget phone because they lack the lens coating. iPhone cheaping out again on materials. Try it. Shoot at a direct light source and you'll see reflection or flares of the lights in the picture. Very very bad. And worse still... No fix for that other than taking the picture in a different way.

    6) connectivity issue. Not sure if its just me but the 12 mini have been showing signs of bad connectivity. Constantly loses Bluetooth pairing and wifi connection for no apparent reason. I didn't pay 1k for a phone that functions like that.

    7) ios.... Too restrictive. Everything is pay pay pay. 1 step forward, 2 steps back. Not intuitive and the lack of customization when you've paid thousands of dollars only for you to be stuck at in an eco system that only continues to ask you to pay and use their services. There's a lot that could be discussed in this but os is pretty subjective. That said, I just hate how restrictive it is given how I paid thousand dollars for it to only be used as it is and nothing more than how I want it.

    8) price. Just ain't worth paying that much a phone that you'd probably could get at half even 1/4 of the price for the same exact functions at the same speed. Ask yourself, are you paying thousands of dollars for a phone that is old in design, lacked the basic stuff that an Android phone has over an iphone, slow charging speeds, bad battery, rubbish camera lenses, no other unlock variations because it's worth the PRICE or is it just for the brand and the exclusivity. I know most Android users don't feel the exclusivity because we have phones that fit our budget, pocket and mind. iPhones just seems to fit into someone's pocket and mind.

    MIUI12 After 6 weeks

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 07:34 PM PST

It's been worse on battery drain. I am aware this isn't completely Xiaomi's fault, because I noticed that Android system is always been a big (never used to be this way back in the Android 7 days).

It's a bit disappointing, given how far hardware has come. Software side needs improving. The new control centre is nice, and different, but it uses about 600MB more RAM than the default. Which again.. shouldn't even been happening.

I priced this through Genshin Impact. That games uses about 2.4GB normally with the default control centre, but the new one actually hurt performance in the game and used around 2.9-3 GB.

Galaxy Note 10 for a Mi Note 10

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 07:45 PM PST

Well I just got an opportunity to change my Galaxy N10 for a Mi Note 10 and I want to know if it's worth it, the bsttery in My Galaxy is pathetic but it's way more expensive, it's a good business to do? I love Xiaomi, I had a Mi A2 and a Mi 9T so I know they're good phones but I don't know if I'm gonna regret this trade. I appreciate some advices!

Anyone else having issues with 3rd party keyboards?

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 01:57 PM PST

So I upgraded to a Redmi Note 9 Pro about 2 weeks ago. It's running MIUI 12.0.1 on top of Android 10. And every so often, while I'm typing, the keyboard will just randomly close. And the only way to reopen it is to click on the text field. Sometimes the whole app will close with the keyboard and send me back to the home screen. But the app stays running. I can switch right back to it and pick up right where I left off. I honestly don't know what's causing it. I reported it to Xiaomi and they said they're aware of the issue and looking into it. It only seems to happen with 3rd party keyboards. I use SwiftKey, but after it happened a few times, I installed Swype (an old APK) and GO Keyboard, and it's happened on all of them. It hasn't happened on Gboard yet, but I don't really use it. It doesn't happen quite enough to make me stop using SwiftKey, but it does happen enough to be pretty aggravating. I'd say it probably happens about 10 times a day. Just wondering if anyone else has this problem. It never happened on my Note 8 Pro. But it was running MIUI 12.0.5.

    Poco X3 - Review after 1 week

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 11:41 AM PST

Had my poco X3 for just over a week now after upgrading from my old Mi A3 and here are my thoughts

Performance - the phone is more than enough for day to day and even gaming (which I don't really do) apps load fast and there isn't really any delay for load times etc.

Display - I mostly keep it at 120hz, it's smooth, bright and responsive, there's a bit of ghosting in dark mode at times however and the lowest brightness setting still burns my eyes at night.

Battery life - probably the highlight, 5160mAh and lasts me 2 days, with about 7-8 hours of screen on time. Using the phone in 60hz mode I've found offers about 10% more screen on time.

Camera - this one is tricky as there really isn't a go to gcam for most, any picture posted on this page with a gcam photo, the first reply is "what gcam are you using" honestly the photos are fine, even in low light, similar to an iPhone 8 plus, the stock cameras video performance is impressive and stable even at 4k.

Software - Easily the weak spot of this device. I love the look and feel of MIUI but it has so many quirks. Eg, you can't turn off floating notifications that open little windows of said app, some apps just won't even show notifications regardless of auto-starting or turning off battery saver.

Animations aren't great if you're using something like nova launcher with gestures for example too. Not to mention the bloatware, it's insane, there's 10+ apps baked into the rom that I can't uninstall. Oh, and the ads aren't a big deal, I just turn off recommendations..

But yeah, that's my short overall review of the Poco X3, for $270 AUD, there isn't a phone that comes close to it within its price range

Yeelight Aurora Plus vs the 1S model?

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 04:46 PM PST

Hello, I've been considering buying one of these strips together with a few extensions for it, yet I can't quite decide which one to choose. Besides RGB I'm also interested in having white light and the older Aurora seems to lack an option for white tones in the Yeelight app while the new 1S seems to have this. Would this be just a matter of software or does the older light strip lack white LED's? As for the extensions, they are all from the older Aurora gen, so in case this is a hardware limitation, I can assume that the extensions would be unable to show white tones like the 1S?

    mi 10t lite incoming

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 12:11 PM PST

Greetings r/Xiaomi fans. I placed an order for the mi 10t lite in rose beach the other night. It has the same 4g coverage as my mi 9 se other than band 20 (which I don't need as I am not in the EU) along with my carrier's 5g band. The display is failing on my mi 9 se, at times it barely registers taps & doesn't recognize swipes or other gestures. I can usually reboot repeatedly until the display sorts itself out but after two years, it was time for an upgrade. please let me know if there is anything anyone here is interested in regarding this phone.

TWS headphone sounds issues (Panasonic RZ-S300W) - Mi 9T

Even the pairing took a long time and I noticed the volume (even if it's on the highest level) is extremly low. I tried the headphone with 2 samsung devices and worked well with them, no sound issues. Absolute volume is turned off, I don't know what to do.

    Headphone doesn't work

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 11:21 AM PST

I have a Xiaomi mi 8 with MIUI 11.0.5 (if that helps) and whenever I put the headphones on, it just doesn't work properly. First, the right side doesn't work and the left one I only can hear like, really low. Second, the volume just starts going up and down for no reason and it randomly clicks in videos. On top of that, it randomly says the time with like, Google Voice or something. I've tried using other headphone, tried using the headphone on other devices, rebooted the phone but nothing seems to work. I need help

    AX6000 +2 AX1800 Nodes

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 02:50 PM PST

So that's a setup that should cover my house. Just wanted to see if anyone else uses these models. What the reliability is like? How often, if ever, you have to reboot the devices. How well the app is made? (As I've read that's the only native english option) Whether or not people would recommend hard wiring the nodes instead of having them wifi meshed? How well the remote management works? (if it has it at all)

Mainly I need to know what issues you've had with the router(s) and how long you've had it/them?

I've currently got a netgear r7000 and 2 netgear ex7300 range extenders. I'll never buy a netgear again... Worst firmware I've seen on a router (yes i know about tomato and ddwrt but not worth the hassle)

    Thanks in advance, Mo

Redmi note 10 - no dimensity chipset?

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 10:49 AM PST

I recently googled specs for the redmi note 10 pro. They all indicate that it will come with either a dimensity chipset or snapdragon 750. I would love to see a dimensity 820 chipset in a midrange redmi phone.

Anyone seen a reputable source regarding this?

    Play Store crashing

Since today, the Play Store on my Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite always crashes when I either manually check for app updates, click on the search bar or even when I simply click on any app offers from the store.

Have you noticed something like this and is there anything you can do about it or is it a bug in the Play Store?

Mi Watch Lite: Measure, display, and record real-time heart rate during exercise?

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 10:07 AM PST

I'm using the Xiaomi Wear app and the exercise doesn't track heart rate at all. Seems like a very essential feature for exercise.

The standard heart rate monitoring frequency goes down to 1min.

Are there other ways to track the heart rate?
