I messed up a server - after restoring the backups ai get this error Posted: 29 Jan 2021 03:32 AM PST I tried to renew the ssl on an AWS app. I ran the wrong bitnami command. This is not to renew this is to create ssl certs. Luckily there are back up configs I restored the following files: However, now I am getting this in the browser and Vue does not get the correct response. [link] [comments] |

WiFi adapter slow download speed on Ubuntu Posted: 29 Jan 2021 01:48 PM PST Hi everyone, What might be the cause? Is there anything I can do to fix the problem or I should buy another WiFi adapter? [link] [comments] |
Microphone has a low, buzzing static noise ever since reinstalling Ubuntu 20.04.1 Posted: 29 Jan 2021 09:07 AM PST Reinstalled Ubuntu this week and since then I've had some sort of low, sine-wave like noise in the background which is highly irritating, didn't have that before. In Audacity there are also way less options for mics than before, beforehand I had dozens and dozens of options. I have no idea what went wrong. [link] [comments] |
My bash script terminates halfway through. Posted: 29 Jan 2021 07:13 AM PST My current script is: When running this, it always terminates after the pkill line, but I want it to continue through the rest of the script. I feel like I'm missing something simple but I'm not sure what. For context, I'm writing a script that closes steam, switches account, and opens it again. [link] [comments] |
Work Around FAT32 symlink error? Posted: 29 Jan 2021 10:23 AM PST I need to find a library to be physically on a USB drive because I cannot create a FAT32 symlink as follows: These files should also have the following symbolic links: If these links are missing, you should create them yourself using these commands: From this is anyone able to tell me where I can locate these? I'm working on a Debian Buster 32 bit system. [link] [comments] |
Can someone explain to me Sudo permissions ( details inside) Posted: 28 Jan 2021 05:29 PM PST As I am sure a lot of people are aware that the Sudo exploit is being talked about lately. But, it got me thinking and I was wondering if someone could explain some things. In most distros I have tried it will ask for a Sudo Password and a User Password. In PopOS when I install it it only asks for a User Password. I recently changed my Password and that inherently changed my sudo password. But, when go to sudo EDITOR=nano visudo my username is not listed anywhere. But, if I put other users in this file then they do inherit sudo powers. I am sorry what I looking for isn't really clear. But, what I guess want is clarification about what exactly is going on. If a distros wants 2 passwords...but, my user has sudo power then why would I need a different password? Why doesn't PopOS ask for two and why isn't my user listed in the visudo file? Edit: Some Very good responses. I did not expect this many upvotes on the subject I guess others wanted to know this as well. [link] [comments] |
File question (elementary OS Hera) Posted: 29 Jan 2021 07:03 AM PST I have my own icons I'd like to use to fit my desktop theme. This time I manually replaced all the icons with appeditor, but would there be a way to copy the ones I want to use into an existing icon pack using the terminal so that the icons I want are applied automatically? Hopefully this is worded clearly. Basically I'm asking if there's a way to copy new icons into the root directory icons so that they become the default? [link] [comments] |

Configuration of VM under linux Posted: 29 Jan 2021 05:33 AM PST Hello buddys, i am using manjaro gnome on my laptop and use it for personal projects. i wanted to learn the use of ansible with ssh keys and therefore i created 2 vms on my machine, one with debian and the other one with archlinux. the basic installation is working and i can use the system. now i am struggling with the network. first i created a NAT network in oracle vm virtualbox and couldnt make the 2 vms communicate to each other. i found a solution, where i have one network adapter for internet access and one network adapter for communicating between the vms. when i add the second network adapter, i can only use one of them. the other one does not get any connection. i only tried configurating one of the vms which is the debian-base one. i would be happy if anybody could help me. greets [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jan 2021 08:49 AM PST My OS: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. Things worked fine yesterday but today when I boot up my laptop, the wifi list is disappeared and it seems like I can't use internet at all. Normally, I haven't encountered any problems regarding wifi so I don't know what information that I should give to you guys. Command lshw -C network let me know that my wifi card is unclaimed, weird. What should I do guys? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 28 Jan 2021 04:42 PM PST Hello, Perhaps this is a strange problem, but I'm looking to load 3 partitions onto my 512 gb microSD (SanDisk Extreme Plus 512gb) to have something portable, secure, and inconspicuous for international travel (I'm an anthropologist). I'm planning on using one partition for a encrypted NTFS, one for encrypted exFAT for my android, and one for a bootable linux. However, I cannot seem to be able to install the OS onto the SD card on a single partition without disrupting the other 2 partitions that are equally important. The partition I wish to boot off of has a size of 64gb and is formated as NTFS prior to trying to burn onto it. The USB linux installer cannot install onto it properly, and the Raspberry Pi installer build for SD ends up writing the whole SD card without regards for partitioning. Do I have to somehow unmount the other two partitions prior to installing it? Thank you, Consul Robespierre [link] [comments] |
Trouble booting USB with Windows from Fedora. Posted: 29 Jan 2021 07:04 AM PST So I've been running Fedora for a while now and I decided to try and play Call Of Duty Warzone on my laptop but I can't seem to boot the USB to install Windows (dual boot). It's strange because I've never had this issue with different linux distros (ubuntu, fedora, tails) It just doesn't boot. I decided to try a virtual machine (Virtual Machine Manager) but the VM kept shutting off while installing CoD. (I'm aware that my laptop won't run it fantastically but just wanted to give it a shot) I'm running Fedora Workstation 33 on a HP EliteBook 850 G3 i5 So far I've tried: two different media writers (Fedora Media Writer & ISO Image Writer) Formatting the USB to NTFS and FAT32 Re-downloading the .iso Enabling Legacy & Disabling Safe Boot Changing the boot order so that USB is a the top of the list. Could it be that the USB is corrupt? I don't have another to try it with - and I'd rather not buy one just for the sole purpose of installing windows. Anyone have any idea what could be the issue? Posted: 29 Jan 2021 02:27 AM PST Hi, I want to create either a bootable backup or a backup that can be booted after restoring it to disk. (Maybe its just my personal failure, but I've never been able to do this under linux. I am able to access my files but until now I always did a clean install and then restored my data from the backup, never directly the whole system. Mostly because it didn't work when I tried it and at some point I did stop trying.) My systemsI have 2 systems, one with popOS and one with elementaryOS:
What I already have
My goalAs mentioned above, I would like to have the option to just restore my full disk (for each laptop). Preferably backup to my ext. HDD and in case of damage just 1-click restore to the m.2 ssd of the respective notebook. The problem so far has been that it either didn't boot or I had problems with accessing the encrypted parts of the system. If it makes stuff easier, I could also imagine having a backup m.2 ssd for each laptop with the latest backup to hot-swap but that seems a little bit overpowered for my needs. EDIT: encrypted backups would be nice, too [link] [comments] |
[BunsenLabs] Tint2 name filter Posted: 29 Jan 2021 06:06 AM PST I was customizing my Tint2 taskbar and wondered how to use the name filter to hide certain icons from the systray. I can only type one name at a time, and it works, but typing multiple names with a delimiter doesn't work.. I tried ";" "," and "|" with all sorts of space combinations. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jan 2021 05:47 AM PST Hi, I've been using Ubuntu for a while now on my laptop, but never managed to get the internal mic working... USB stick longevity as a boot drive Posted: 29 Jan 2021 05:08 AM PST So I've managed to successfully install Fedora 33 on a 64GB Sandisk Ultra Fit, and works well as a boot drive. Now, my question is, how long would it last for before it starts failing? It gets real hot during usage, and it starts to thermal throttle after a while. Most people have also said that in the reviews, so I'm getting kinda concerned Any help is appreciated, thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jan 2021 05:00 AM PST Hi, I'm looking to create a multi boot usb with many different distros, looking to use ventoy to do it but any better alternatives would be welcome. The thing I'm confused about is when I am booting into each one would I have to create each a separate partition to the drive I am booting to? The hard drive is pretty small 250gb, so I was wondering that. If so, it would limit the number of distros I would be able to use then. Or would the usb have some sort of config that would be unique to each distro on it meaning I could use the whole of the drive each time it is booted? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
How do I run this phyton script with arguments as a cronjob? Posted: 29 Jan 2021 04:33 AM PST This is what I write in the terminal: How do I make this into a cronjob? I think I understand how to add it to the crontab itself without arguments, I definetly know how to configure how often it should be run. Like so, for repeating ever 10 minutes: But how do I include the "--ram 32" etc as well? [link] [comments] |

Need a simple terminal emulator (No tabs, no multiplex) Posted: 29 Jan 2021 03:39 AM PST Hello. I need a simple terminal emulator, because xfce terminal emulator is not tiling properly (I cannot change this, xfce-terminal uses rows and columns and not pixels) It bugs me out every time I see space on the side of my screen, with the terminal not filling it properly.... I tried out a few terminal emulators - gnome-terminal, konsole, but they face the same issues. Others like xterm and st work, but they take alot of time to configure, and I just want to get on with my life. Still others like alacritty and kitty take forever to install (I have poor internet, and an old pc) Thank you in advance for any suggestions !! [link] [comments] |
