Looking for a Windows laptop equivalent to a MacBook Air/Pro M1, any recommendations? Posted: 28 Jan 2021 12:26 PM PST Im thinking about buying a new laptop, I've seen how good the new M1 MacBooks are performing but I'm not so sure I want a MacOS machine, any good windows competitor (13-14 inch)? Buyer's remorse for 1660ti laptop Posted: 28 Jan 2021 11:10 AM PST I bought the Tracer 3 EVO 100 (MAG-15 clone) back in August for $900. It seemed to have great specs for the price including: 94W battery, low weight, mech keyboard, low-latency and color-accurate screen, and decent hardware. However, I'm suffering from buyer's remorse after seeing 3060 laptops releasing as low as 1099.99... Should I try to sell my laptop to afford the new generation? [link] [comments]

Help from a nursing student??? Posted: 28 Jan 2021 02:19 PM PST I need suggestions on a good laptop. I'm a nursing student so I'm on zoom often for lectures now. I prefer a larger laptop with a bigger screen. I also want a good battery life and for it to not be crazy heavy since I'm taking it everywhere. I also like to play simple games in my free time (Stardew Valley, Sims, etc). Nothing too crazy. I love cute laptops, like the gold and rose gold ones. My budget is around $1000 but can spend a bit more to get everything I want. I'm just really clueless in this area. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
HP 255 G8 (Ryzen) - Which RAM will it take? Posted: 28 Jan 2021 02:14 PM PST Hi guys, I've ordered the HP 255 G8 and it comes with 1x8gb DDR4 RAM installed, but I want to make it a dual channel.. so does it matter what brand RAM I install.. will two different brands have an affect with the performance of the dual channel? Does anyone know what brand DDR4 RAM HP provide with this laptop? Edit: I want to buy the RAM in advance so when the laptop arrives I can install it straight away. The laptop code is: 2E9J2EA Thank you for the help! [link] [comments]
15.6" Paperlike Screen Protector Posted: 28 Jan 2021 02:10 PM PST Does anyone know where I can find a paper finish screen protector for a 15.6" HP Envy? Got my wife a Wacom Ink stylus but the slick screen can be a pain. Looking online I can only find a couple with no reviews and not much info on them. [link] [comments]

Posted: 28 Jan 2021 06:07 AM PST My laptop on windows provides me a battery life of just 1.5hr, whereas on linux (popOS) I get amazing battery life upto 4 hours. Things I have tried. 1) Resetting my laptop. 2) disabling my graphic card. 3) switching to battery saver mode. 4) unplugging all peripherals. But still at the end, linux always moves close to 4hr mark whereas my fresh win10 lasts only 1.5hr. Any suggestions are welcome. Laptop. Gaming options? Intel core m5 6y57 with QHD display. Posted: 28 Jan 2021 01:36 PM PST I have just purchased a laptop for when I'm on the go. It's a portable laptop with a weak processor, integrated graphics card and QHD from what I can gather.

Reset cmos password, system reboots to bios login screen Posted: 28 Jan 2021 01:19 PM PST When I boot up the laptop it gives the blue screen error then restarts to the bios screen, asking for password (which I forgot). I have tried to remove the cmos battery and then I get the message bios default done, and then I put the cmos battery back in, it still asks for password and won't go further. Any help. The laptop is from PC specialist and out of warranty. I have a new laptop but want to sell this old one. [link] [comments]
Whats the best laptop processors for gaming? Posted: 28 Jan 2021 09:16 AM PST Im looking around on ebay for a laptop. There's so many processers to choose from. Im only familiar with intel and even then it gets confusing because im looking for something that can handle more demanding graphics. My 2020 Lenovo cant run gpu heavy games like portal as well as my 2013 Tobashi. So (idk if this is right but) im assuming it depends on what the cpu was designed for and if it has good integrated graphics or if the mbored has a dedicated graphics chip and sorting through it all is exasperating. So my question is, what laptop processors are good for not only cpu but gpu heavy games from amd to intel? [link] [comments]
Eluktronics Max-17 for design/editing? Posted: 28 Jan 2021 12:38 PM PST I've been looking at buying a laptop to use for work and came across the Max-17. My work involves the use of software such as Adobe Suite for photo and video editing + the occasional CGI using Blender. I understand that a desktop would be ideal but I can be on the move quite a bit so needs to be a laptop. Also aware that this is a gaming laptop but I see that's what a lot of people seem to recommend for my field of work. Would this be a good choice? I've a budget of around €2K (2400 USD). Are there better alternatives out there that I've missed? Greatly appreciate any help! I've tried to do some of own research but get bogged down in jargon that makes no sense to me! Posted: 28 Jan 2021 12:11 PM PST So, im toying with the idea of getting a gaming laptop. Before I get the typical "desktops are better" I know this, just a laptop suits my needs better and I can get what i want cheaper in a laptop atm too. Anyhow, I want to get a top tier cooling tray, there are a lot of random ones out there. I wondered if anyone had an experience with any good for gaming. Im not gaming all the time, but im aware of thermal throttling and well, the cooler it's kept the longer it will last. [link] [comments]
When I plug my laptop to its charger it freezes. Posted: 28 Jan 2021 08:03 AM PST When I plug my laptop to its charger it freezes, and when I turn it on with the charger it doesn't even load the motherboard's logo, help please? Is it important to say it's running vista? XD But without the charger it's completely fine, and surprisingly fast. [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Jan 2021 11:45 AM PST Hi, I have a 2019 MacBook Pro. My younger sister took the apple juice bot and spilt it all on my keyboard and touchpad. I cleaned up the top but it's inside my touchpad which is why it won't click or move. The keyboard is really sticky and the turn on button is hard to press. I cant move anything when I open it because it's on the Lock Screen and it shuts itself off after about 5 minutes which I believe is normal. I put it in rice and opened it the next day, it absorbed some water liquid but I knew it was still in there and I look and there are about 10 pieces of uncooked rice that went in through the back. The place where it says MacBook Pro under the screen has a crack but it's nothing major. How much would a rough estimate be at a repair shop and at Apple, I don't want to spend like $800. Posted: 28 Jan 2021 05:24 AM PST Mainly as I keep reading it appears that thermal paste just doesn't last very long in a laptop. My CPU goes up to 84 degrees on load and the peak operating temperature of thermal grizzly kryonaut is 80 degrees. And some users claim because of how laptops are used the bend and warp which makes paste more amenable to degrading. Plus no matter which there's I research someone has complaints that every paste I look at dried out like MX4, Noctua H1, IC Diamond. Or some of them pump out like thermal grizzly. My laptop is also super challenging to disassemble and if I keep opening it to replace paste, chances are I'll break something eventually. But on the other hand I have a Dell that will throttle on me after 40 minutes of game play and there's no chance the factory pasting on a budget laptop would be any good. Especially from Dell. Not sure where to go from here. Especially since I thought this would be a good help to my gaming temperature since I've already cleaned the fans and undervolted. [link] [comments]
Transplanting BGA CPUs and Intel Boot Guard Posted: 28 Jan 2021 11:21 AM PST Long story short, I've got a ThinkPad motherboard - T440s (NM-A052, i5-4300U) with possibly toasted CPU. There are plenty of broken/untested T450s motherboards (NM-A301, i5-5300U) that can be bought for next to nothing. The plan is to buy broken T450s motherboard, take the CPU off of it, reball it and solder it onto the T440s motherboard. I've ordered a BGA1168 stencil and 0.40mm solder balls, but I'm not sure if system is going to post with a CPU from different machine due to BootGuard. KBC is also different but I don't think it's going to matter. [link] [comments]
