    Realistic review of Razer Kishi

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 04:17 PM PST

I recently purchased a Razer Kishi and while there are quite a few reviews available for it, none have really mirrored my impressions or experience. So I wanted to jump in and share my thoughts. Hopefully someone that thinks like I do will find this valuable.

    THE GOOD:

    - The analog sticks are much better than those found on other telescoping controllers. Many of the others that I've tried have a huge deadzone that can't be fixed. The Kishi does not have that. With that said, I also don't want to set the impression that these are as good as an actual Xbox One controller. They are a bit smaller and have more resistance. So good, but not perfect.

    - I find the buttons and triggers to be good. I've seen other reviews where people think that they're overly mushy. While they aren't super clicky, they definitely aren't like the mushy stuff that you find on cheap knockoff controllers. Quite acceptable.

    - They work out of the box for xCloud and Steam Link. No configuration was needed whatsoever.

    - Passthrough charging works well.

    THE MIXED:

    - The fit of the controller to the phone is not as flawless as many reviewers have represented. I tested both a Pixel 2 XL and a Samsung Galaxy A50. With both, there is a ton of wiggle back and forth. This has a lot to do with the fact that you can't tighten or lock the controller into any sort of position. While the buttons and analog sticks are better than iPega, the stability with the Kishi is quite a bit worse. It's literally just the default tension from the rubber backing that is holding the phone in place. I'm not worried about the phone falling out of the controller, but it hardly feels "sturdy" like other reviewers have stated. My experience was a little better if I removed the default rubber inserts and used each phone in it's case. Still quite a bit of wiggle though. It got better again if I kept each phone in it's case and also packed some paper between the phone and the slot in the controller. There is still some flex, but I think that this is as good as it gets. Bottom line though is that the end user shouldn't have to do any of this on a product this expensive. Razer should have just had a way to tighten things up to stop the flexing.

    - Currently on Samsung phones, the Home button returns you to the Android home screen. If you're using the Xbox App, then this makes exiting a game pretty frustrating. I'm not completely putting this on the Kishi itself. It may be something that Samsung is responsible for. However I did find that users were having this same issues with real xbone controllers a few months ago and Microsoft fixed it with a firmware update to the controller itself. So this may be somewhat Razer's fault.

    THE BAD:

    - The right side of the controller is a mess. If you're used to using a standard Microsoft Xbox One controller, then the layout is going to feel off. They put the analog stick in a spot that forces you to awkwardly bend your thumb to have the level of control that you're used to with a standard xbone controller. This causes hand cramping after a bit. They also positioned the face buttons right above the analog stick which is hard to reach. So the ergonomics are pretty rough. It's similar to a Switch layout (which I also hate). I will rate this as being slightly more comfortable than the Switch because there's a little more bulk to grab onto with the Kishi. But still not great. It would have been better if they had just made the controllers just a little bit wider so that the layout was similar to the right side of the xbone controller. It would have also been nice if they had contoured the bottom a bit more so that there was a little grip to grab onto.

    CONCLUSIONS:

Overall this controller is a mixed bag. The layout on the right side of the controller is almost a deal-breaker for me. It's super awkward and will probably prevent me from playing any serious FPS game on this controller. However it's ok for slower paced games and I'll probably keep it for those. It's also disappointing that they didn't include any way to lock or tighten the controller to properly secure your phone. Seems like a silly oversight that shouldn't have happened with such an expensive controller. If you are perfectly happy with the way the Switch controller feels, then you'll probably be completely fine with my major gripes. However, if you're looking for something that really feels like a traditional xbone controller, then the things that I pointed out will be relevant to you.

Is there a 'GameVice' style controller for Android that will hold my old Galaxy Note 4 horizontally BETWEEN the controls?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 09:51 PM PST

I have an old Note 4 lying around that I'd like to turn into a mobile games console for playing retro/arcade titles. I have a couple of gamepads that have mounts where the phone clamps ABOVE the controller, but I don't really like these as the balance is totally off and the weight of the phone becomes uncomfortable after a short period of time.

What I really want is an Android version of something like the GameVice for iPhone that would accommodate a Galaxy Note 4 with a micro-USB connector.

Does such a gaming case exist??

Astracraft Recent Global Launch - This game is legit and finally a non p2w game by NetEase

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 08:17 PM PST

Astracraft recently just had its global launch on both iOS and Android. In the below video, you will see some gameplay from the different modes available to the game.

Astracraft is an incredible game but may not appeal to everyone because it is a mech / battlebot focused game. However, it features many awesome game modes such as

different PvP arenas, battle royale, various team modes, casual modes that reminds me of fall guys and much more.

You also get access to an incredible amount of customization you can do pre or mid battle to your mech. Even though the game is by Netease (infamous for releasing P2W games), there doesn't seem to be any pay to win features in Astracraft, the micro-transactions are mostly cosmetic. Although you can buy some mech modules, these can also be bought with gold you earn from games.

See some of the gameplay in different modes and builders: https://www.mobogamers.com/post/astracraft-global-launch-gameplay-first-look

    [REQUEST] Action/RPG with class mixing?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 04:35 PM PST

I'm looking for a game that has class/spec mixing like Titan Quest/Grim Dawn. Preferably with even basic action combat and interesting skills. No idle/autoplay games. Prefer no p2w, but don't care about being competitive in games, just don't want to hit a progress wall where I need to pay to succeed. Free or paid okay.

Looking for a pokemon-like game, but without grinding/walking around

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 07:15 AM PST

I like the pokemon system. All those elements, iv, etc. But can't stand the grind or mindless walking. Looking for any game, that i could never hear, but with pokemon/digimon variety in there. Auto chess, tower defense, online battler, gacha. Anything. Pvp required, and it must be an essence of game, not the "late game optional thing" or something.
Didn't liked pokemon showdown, because there is too little of variety (even genes is same), too random matchmaking, etc.

Can be not even pokemon, but i'm still looking for a huge RPS system, which i never saw as good as in pokemon franchise.

Why hasn't there been an Android emulator for flash games?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 01:16 AM PST

Ever since I heard about BlueMaxima's Flashpoint preservation project, I've started to feel nostalgic with all the old flash games I played as a kid. Then, I thought it would be really cool to play all those games on the go, especially since there's already been plenty of iconic yet "light" games out there that have been ported to mobile such as Plants vs Zombies.

But when I checked for methods of playing flash games on Android, only one real method turned up, which is using Puffin Browser, possibly the only mobile browser out there that supports flash.

I'd stick to this method, but over time the app has grown to become more restrictive with it's features, limiting the access you have for an extended amount of time. And even the pro version seems to have its own issues.

So now, I wonder... Why do you need a specific browser in order to play flash games on Android? Especially since there have already been numerous working emulators for different game platforms such as GBA, NDS, PSP, and even older consoles like the PS1?

With most flash games, you could just extract the .swf files and run them with Adobe Flash Player on the PC (at least before 2021), Why does it seem like that nobody has been able to make a program that emulates flash? Would it be really difficult to make? Did nobody ever think of doing it? or nobody just bother to do it?

I know this might probably be irrelevant now, especially since flash is officially dead, but I've been wondering about this for a while now, and I just wanted to know if there were clear answers out there.

TL;DR: I'm just curious as to why there are no flash game/animation emulators for Android, while Gameboy Advance, Nintendo DS, and PSP games have at least one emulator out there. Would it be very hard to create or code? Did nobody just bother to make one? Cause it would honestly be really awesome if there was one out there. Especially with Flashpoint already providing the extracted .swf files.

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 03:32 AM PST

I tried the game last night and I am not sure what to think. Artwork is absolutely amazing but I found it a lil bit boring. When it comes to FtP or P2W it is F2P-ish.
