Posted: 19 Jan 2021 04:13 PM PST I recently brought an ssd to improve my laptop and when I was trying to migrate the os to the ssd I noticed it was 450gb large. This seems far too large as Microsoft website says it is 20gb. However as I am a relative novice when it comes to computers so I did not know which files I could delete from within the windows files. Stuck on Windows 10 welcome screen for over half an hour with every boot up. Posted: 19 Jan 2021 08:20 PM PST Every time I shut down my PC and boot it back up I get stuck on the the welcome screen for a very long time. At first it lasted for around 5 minutes, now it's over half an hour (this is with an m.2 ssd). I've been getting around this by just not shutting down the PC and putting it to sleep instead but it gets very annoying when I install something that requires a reboot. I think it started after I installed pro tools onto the pc but I can't uninstall it because I need it for work. What can I do? [link] [comments]

Faster way to update older computer Posted: 19 Jan 2021 07:09 PM PST I have a 3-year-old laptop that I haven't used in almost a year. I ran Windows Update, and it took 15 minutes to scan the computer. It then took a couple of hours to download and install the updates. When it was done, it required me to click the restart button. The computer then spent about 30 minutes doing some more installing. After the computer was finished, I logged in, and the computer did some more installing, which took another 10 minutes. When the computer was finally done installing updates, I ran Windows Update again. After another 15-minute scan, more updates were found, and I had to repeat the cycle again. The cycle had to be repeated a few times. It took a couple of days to get Windows fully updated. Is there a faster way to update Windows? Is there a way to reduce the amount of input needed from me? Is there a way to have the machine automatically restart? Automatically check for new updates after installing previous ones? Can Windows continue installing an update without requiring me to manually log in? And is there a way to speed up the scan time? It would be great if I could just leave the machine alone for a day or two and have Windows fully update without me having to check on it every half hour. What's the best way to update a computer that hasn't been updated in months? [link] [comments]
What do you do with aging hardware? Posted: 19 Jan 2021 07:05 PM PST Out of my own curiosity, I'm informally trying to figure out how much e-waste contributes to environmental issues. For sake of remaining unbiased, try not to let this sway your answers. I just thought it was important context for why I'm running this poll. Feel free to elaborate in the comments if you have something to share that you think relates to this topic in an interesting way. [link] [comments]
How do I go about cleaning my local disk C drive? Posted: 19 Jan 2021 06:22 PM PST Hey guys! So around last year I built a gaming pc. For context I bought a 232 gb ssd to put the OS on and bought a 1 tb HDD for games and whatnot. It's been almost a year now and I'm looking at my storage on my C drive and it seems almost filled up. I noticed I have league of legends installed on that C drive ( I thought I installed it on my HDD) . In this case should I move the game to my hdd or uninstall and reinstall it into my hdd? And for everything else that is taking up space in that C drive how do I know what is important and what is not before I delete anything? Here is what is in the C drive (no idea if this is useful for you guys): https://imgur.com/Z8gjJBJ [link] [comments]

Help with midi keyboard drivers! Posted: 19 Jan 2021 11:43 AM PST okay so just before lockdown, my school game a a SubZero Commandkey25 midi keyboard to do my music coursework with. I use an HP Pavillion laptop running Windows 10 home and updated fully. fast foreward to last christmas when i got an audio interface and microphone and other stuff to start producing music. the only thing i needed was a midi keyboard and then i realised i still had the one my school gave me. i plugged it in aaand... nothing. found out that you needed to hold down shift to turn it on, not something we had to do when using the school computers (they are Macs, not widowsPCs as the keyboard apparently works with both). it finally showed up in device manager but does not work with any software and is recognised at "USB audio device" and shows up like its a speaker. now the weird thing is, it doesn't show up as a subzero commandkey25, it shows up as "WORLDE MINI". did a little dig and turns put that they are the same thing, idk if subzero just blatently copied it or what. i went onto subzeros website and found the drivers but when i download it it is just some software to remap the controls which comes up with an error whenever used saying "midi device not found". cant find any drivers for a worlde mini either. i really wanna get this working because i know it works and i know it is a decent little keyboard that will save me the pain of having to use my computer keyboard as a midi keyboard. anyone got any suggestions? is there a way to forcefully use some universal midi drivers with the thing? i appreciate any suggestions. thanks :) [link] [comments]

Networking Windows 10 computers Posted: 19 Jan 2021 03:23 PM PST I hadn't had to network Windows 10 computers since they dropped homegroups. Now with my new laptop I need to connect it to my desktop to transfer files and now Windows networking eludes me. Is there a good set of instructions? More Information: Windows is up to date on both computers. Both log into the same live.com account. I am admin on both. This is private network for my home. Network discovery and file and printer sharing are turned on for both computers. Passwords protected sharing is turned off for both computers as I have never gotten that to work. Yet networking attempts still ask me to log onto the other computer and rejects the credentials. There is no problem reaching my old Win 7 computers. I can remote connect the win 10 computers and have been transferring files through AnyDesk up to now. [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 Jan 2021 03:16 PM PST Randomly when I'm playing games on my computer my computer will minimize the game and send me to my home screen. It may be like this for all of my applications, but I've only had it happen for games so far. I've tried some solutions but nothing has worked so far. Posted: 19 Jan 2021 02:30 PM PST I decided to make my usb pen bootable with windows 10, I did all of that, and then the drive size was 32gb when it was supposed to be 64gb (approx. 57.4gb or something close to that) Then, after I was done using the Usb Pen, I formatted it, Did a quick format, but my usb pen was still 32gb. And now it's an exfat drive. How do I make it back to fat32, and the fat32 option to also appear in format option on windows 10? Sorry for my bad english, it's not my first language [link] [comments]

Why is Amazon pre-downloaded on my new PC? Posted: 19 Jan 2021 01:04 PM PST Like what's the reason? Is it a marketing tactic Amazon uses to get a user to use it? Is it so they can track me/this laptop? [link] [comments]
[Question] Is it possible to enable focus assist while a specific application is open? Posted: 19 Jan 2021 11:50 AM PST Hello, The app I had in mind is Zoom. Usually while on a Zoom meeting I am sharing my screen and other people are sending me Teams messages that pop-up during the meetings. Obviously, I don't want what clients are messaging me to appear while I'm working with other clients. Is it possible for focus assist to be toggled on during Zoom meetings then toggle off when Zoom is closed? [link] [comments] |
