microphone does not work unless I unplug it and plug it back in upon startup. Posted: 01 Dec 2020 02:05 PM PST I don't know if this is the right subreddit for this, but whenever I start my pc, my microphone does not work. I use no software for the mic, it is simply a plug and play usb microphone. Once i unplug it and plug it in, however, it works. Why does this happen? [link] [comments]

PC starts itself back up instead of shutting down. Posted: 01 Dec 2020 05:46 PM PST Sometimes when I shut down my PC it instantly starts itself back up. It's feeling really strange since it only happens sometimes and never twice on a row. Once it starts itself back up I just shut I down again and it actually shuts down. I always use the normal shut down button in Windows 10. Anyone got any idea why my PC is being this odd? [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Dec 2020 08:07 PM PST In the wireless router settings, do you in all circumstances, enable packet aggregation and would there be any reason not to have it enabled? Also, would this function work differently for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands and does preamble short and long have any relevance to these features as well? I'm living in a densely populated apartment block with my wireless router in my utility room surrounded by pipes, boilers and electrical boxes in there. Also, what wireless channels are advised for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands or would the auto channel switching be sufficient as selecting one fixed channel would probably mix with others around my flat anyways? Posted: 01 Dec 2020 04:58 AM PST My last update was in March 2020. When I load the Windows Update settings it's just a blank screen with loading dots up top. I checked my services and windows update is disabled in start up type. I go in and change it to automatic and then press start and reload my computer. I go back into the services and it has gone back to disabled. I have ran the troubleshooter and it says it cannot find the problem. I have run the media creation tool to upgrade my pc and the outcome says it has failed. Is there a way to fix this? I have also tried CMD net start wuauserv but it says it cannot be started as iut is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it [link] [comments]
Is it possible to make it so apps can't go under the taskbar? Posted: 01 Dec 2020 06:10 PM PST Hi everyone, I've got my taskbar on the top of the screen and it's set to small icons. Right now, whenever I move windows around my screen, they sometimes slide underneath the taskbar. Does anyone know how to make it so that I can't drag windows underneath the taskbar? I want Windows to treat the bottom of the taskbar like the end of the screen (think like the MacOS menu bar). [link] [comments]
WINDOWS: when printing documents adobe acrobat opens itself sometimes Posted: 01 Dec 2020 12:03 PM PST I had to install adobe acrobat so that I could get "print" to appear as a right click in the windows explorer context menu, but when printing documents adobe acrobat opens itself sometimes without me having clicked it anyway to prevent it from opening itself? Posted: 01 Dec 2020 01:29 PM PST For example, suppose that I'm using a US keyboard as the physical keyboard, then I have these Input Language and Keyboard Layout settings:
With that, no matter which input language I activate and use, all of them use the same keyboard layout. Thus, all keyboard keys are mapped correctly, and all characters are generated correctly. So, what purpose does the Input Language setting is for? What aspects are affected by it? Cause I don't see any difference at all. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Dec 2020 06:08 AM PST After a couple windows updates my snip and sketch is completely broken. I can't find any solutions to my problem. One issue is that Snip and Sketch doesn't show up as a notification sender, I think this means that Win+Shift+S won't open it. but I'm not 100% on that. Even when i open the snip and sketch app, it won't let me take a snip by pressing the "New Snip" button. This is most likely the reason, but i have no idea how to even start fixing the problem. Ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, updating to the Latest windows update in case something there was causing to not work. It's really annoying because its so useful to just have a shortcut on my keyboard to take a snip, any help would be very much appreciated. [link] [comments]
Switching from windows 10 S home to Windows 10 home Posted: 01 Dec 2020 03:37 AM PST Hi there, I had a question regarding the change to windows 10 home from windows 10 S home, I'm planning on buying a laptop soon and I had my eye on a lenovo ideapad flex 5. But as I was looking at the specifications one last time I saw that it had Windows 10 S home on there. I'm aware that you can change to the full version for free, but I was wondering how much impact on performance changing would have. The specifications for the laptop would be: Ryzen 3 4300u Thanks for replying! [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Dec 2020 11:45 AM PST When I press caps lock and try to type, various letters go crazy, they type a few letters, for example: W - URW S - 65S Y - NBY X - MVX When I type key + shift, it works normally. Also, these keys that go crazy always type the same combination of letters (also, S, Y and X press the arrow I think because my cursor moves to the beginning of sentence ). Does someone know what could be the cause and how to solve this problem? Can this be a virus or smth? Im using Windows 10. Thanks [link] [comments]

Posted: 01 Dec 2020 01:01 PM PST When I open my Photos app, on the top-right it says OneDrive, when I click on it, it says I've used 4.4MB of 5GB. I uninstalled OneDrive a long time ago. Why the fuck is Windows 10 syncing my private Pictures folder to the internet? [link] [comments]
secpol and gpedit both give>> Failed..."not appropriate rights" Posted: 01 Dec 2020 12:56 PM PST Win10 PC has developed a strange quirk: While debugging a problem with DotNet updates not installing (I removed Bitlocker and all was fine) I tried to run secpol and gpedit. Both returned "Failed to open the GPO on this computer. Your might not have appropriate rights." User has admin rights, and on the Administrator account it also fails. Fails as well if I install a new user. Have googled and tried various things, but the only thing I haven't removed is all the HP-branded security apps they install by default. (HP Zbook G5 x64 loaded) Anyone run across this and have a solution? [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Dec 2020 06:54 AM PST I have this problem that whenever I press left ctrl key, the volume mutes and whenever I do the same thing to Windows key, the PC shuts down itself. I have a desktop not a laptop. I tried removing external keyboard then putting it back. I also tried uninstalling external keyboard from device manager then restarting the PC but both methods doesn't seem to work. I googled this problem already on which how I came up doing those two possible solutions . I can't find any way out. [link] [comments]

DCOM Error 10016 causing constant crashing Posted: 01 Dec 2020 12:13 PM PST Since the last Windows update I've gotten constant BSODs and every time I check the Event Viewer it says "Warning" and "Distributed COM Error 10016" followed by some info with IDs. Everything seems to cause this issue from having a Windows application open for too long to accessing an account in a browser. Why does this happen and how do I fix it? [link] [comments]
How is driver letters such as E: and F: determined for USB-plugged in devices? Posted: 01 Dec 2020 11:21 AM PST When pluggin in a USB device into your Windows machine (USB, External HDD, Kindle etc) they get assigned an driver letter. Do these driver letter remain the same for each plugged in device? My SD card shows E: and my Kindle shows F:, can I always be sure that they will have that letter assigned? [link] [comments]
Explorer crashing on file copy Posted: 01 Dec 2020 10:53 AM PST Hello, I got a new laptop and have fully updated it to 20H2. When I attempt to paste a cut/copied file or folder, Explorer crashes and restarts without copying. Using other apps like DirectoryOpus to copy folders works correctly. The issue occurred from when I set it up as a fresh install on 1909 and through as it was updated to 20H2 Do you have any suggestions? Thanks! Edit: the event viewer log is below [link] [comments]
