Lenevo Legion 5i - I'll never buy a Lenevo product again Posted: 02 Dec 2020 05:14 PM PST I am beyond frustrated with the lack of service provided by Lenovo at this point. Let me paint a picture of my Lenevo nightmare for you: July 2020 Purchased Legion 5 Gaming Laptop, worked great for months. Mid October 2020 Laptop stopped working due to power issue and contact made with Legion Ultimate support for on-site repair technician. Late October 2020 (1st on site visit) Legion Ultimate support attempted to repair my laptop by replacing the motherboard on-site. The technician noticed an issue with the screen and suggested it be replaced as well (worked fine before the repair). (2nd on site visit) - Legion Ultimate support technician one day after the first on site visit, he replaced the laptop screen and the laptop would not power on. The technician suggested the laptop be sent in to the repair depot since he had replaced both the motherboard and screen and the problem still existed. I was assured the laptop would be returned to me within 7-9 business days. November 2020 Multiple calls (30+) to the repair facility and no updates on my laptop. - At one point the support person told me I should receive my laptop back by the 19th, I was speaking to them on the 21st (They apparently didn't realize what day it was). - I was asked to provide shipping information for my laptop by customer support, once provided they told me the laptop was received at their repair depot in TX (I can lookup a shipping number as well, not very helpful). - I was told that the repair facility was behind schedule and I would receive my laptop within a week. This of course didn't happen. Late November 2020 After calling daily over the course of two weeks support personnel admitted that they didn't have a status of my laptop and apologized profusely for the lack of information. They couldn't give me a status of the repair stage or an estimated turnaround time. After discussing how ridiculous the situation is with the customer support person I was asked if a replacement laptop would be acceptable and if I wanted to speak to a supervisor. I accepted the offer. I spoke with a supervisor and we both agreed the integrity of the laptop would be in unacceptable condition after numerous failed repairs (these things aren't designed to be taken apart 10 times). I was told that my issue was escalated to the Customer Relations department and I would receive a phone call within 3 business days about a replacement laptop. December 2020 It has been 4 days since I was told I would receive that call. I spoke with a Lenovo Ultimate Support team member just a moment ago about this situation and was reassured that my new ticket number and issue had been accepted and I should have received a call. I was then told I should expect a call within 3 days once again. It seems to be a reoccurring trend... I work in the cyber security industry and work daily with vendors from Cisco (awesome customer service), Supermicro (awesome customer service), Dell, and others. The incompetence Lenovo has demonstrated for my issue so far has been astounding in stark comparison to the other vendors. I am also in charge of our purchases for data center equipment and personal computers. I cannot in good faith see myself considering Lenovo as a partner for our organization should we ever consider them. My laptop was used for software development mainly, it was my personal travel laptop used mostly for virtualization work for a multi-tenant cloud platform I maintain. Luckily, my organization authorized the purchased of another laptop in the mean time as a replacement from Dell. I feel as if I am just being given the run-around and standard "you'll be called in 3 business days, we are sorry." It has become a time sink at this point trying to get this resolved. After reading many of the other posts in this forum, I see that I am not the only one experiencing this. This is a truly unacceptable level of customer service and is detrimental for retaining customers. I hope someone here reaches out to me soon and can offer some assistance. This was posted in Lenovo forum as well, help me get some visibility people!: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/General-Discussion/Legion-5-Repair-Nightmare/m-p/5052888?page=1#5197650 Hopefully, noone else faces the same troubles I have with this company. UPDATE: I just finished holding on the phone for an hour and a half to speak with a supervisor named Jake. He remembered speaking with me previously and told me that Lenevo Corporate had rejected my escalation. He will personally create a new ticket and escalate again so that someone can.... you guessed it... contact me in 3 business days. I'm over it with these people. Someone needs to hold them accountable. [link] [comments]

What heats laptop more? CPU or GPU? Posted: 03 Dec 2020 04:16 PM PST What has a bigger effect on the laptop warming up? Processor or graphics? I'm wondering whether to intentionally buy a weaker CPU or somehow reduce its performance (for my i5-8250U I use max half of the power judging by the task manager), when I use it only halfway anyway, I'm more interested in graphics performance. Posted: 03 Dec 2020 03:55 PM PST I am going to be going for computer programming starting in January. I'll be getting a loner from them that is an HP Windows based computer, that is all I know. Once I receive my student loans in Mid-Late February or March I want to invest in a nice laptop. I have to be able to run windows but I keep coming back to the new Macbook pros and older Macbook airs with the Intel processors so I can use BootCamp or Parallels to dualboot windows. I have an iPad and am interested in using the sidecar function to give me an other screen, I have an iPhone as well so I am invested in the Apple universe already. Will one of these be sufficient? Or is my money much better spent going with a windows native computer? I am looking for something that will be my last computer for a while. I have a while to look but I'm also trying to plan ahead so I don't feel so overwhelmed starting this research when it's time to buy! Thanks in advance for any insight! [link] [comments]
Is this HP 15s worth it and reliable? I can't find any reviews of it Posted: 03 Dec 2020 12:07 PM PST https://www.saturn.de/de/product/_hp-15s-eq1356ng-2694369.html I have 3 stores to choose from where I can buy a laptop ( notebooksbilliger , mediamarkt and saturn ). I am currently looking into this HP laptop but can't find any reviews of it. I wanted to go for the ideapad 3 with tge ryzen 5 4500u but it has 8 gb of ram less and 256ssd instead of 512 for the same price ( non upgradable ram ). Any suggestions and help is appreciated! Used Lenovo Legion Y530 or new HP 15s? Posted: 03 Dec 2020 03:45 PM PST I am hunting for a laptop and have been actively browsing new and used laptops. I have access to a Lenovo Legion Y530 i5-8300H/16GB/256GB/1050TI 4GB for 600€ used but in pretty good shape ,and an HP 15s laptop https://www.saturn.de/de/product/_hp-15s-eq1356ng-2694369.html from here. I am unsure which route I should go for? Any help is appreciated, thank you! [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Dec 2020 03:36 PM PST I have no university or career experience with GIS however have over the past few months began playing around with QGIS on my mid 2012 MacBook Pro which is slowly dying and I'm in need of an upgrade. I'm not techy and not fussy about switching to Windows. I have a ThinkPad T450s at work which works great but I do much prefer the MacBook user experience. Have a max budget of €1500 and would like a 13-15" laptop with 16GB, 512SSD. Don't need any special features like touchscreen, 2 in 1 etc however a great trackpad and keyboard is a must. Any specific laptop recommendations? [link] [comments]
I need a CASE for my daughter's HP Pavilion x360! Posted: 03 Dec 2020 11:44 AM PST My in-laws bought my daughter a laptop (awesome!), but I want to find a case that will give some shock absorption when she drops it. It's an HP pavilion x360 14" 2-in-1. GumDrop, Procases, MAXCases all make something like what I want, but NOT for that model! Do you know of one that would work? Would one of those cases made for other models fit on the one I have (same port and vent placement)? Please help! I've been searching for DAYS. [link] [comments]
My new Dell XPS 13 9310 experience Posted: 03 Dec 2020 09:24 AM PST Hi all! I've read a lot of XPS13 purchase stories and the issues people have with it on Reddit, and yet after long comparisons with the Surface Laptop 3, I decided to buy one because of an excellent deal on the occasion of Black Friday! I purchased the device on 5 November and recieved it on 27 Nov. It's been a week almost and I thought now might be a good time to share my experience with the laptop, as there's obviously been a roller coaster ride with it already! My specs are: XPS 13 9310 i7-1165G7 processor 16 GB LPDDR4x RAM Full HD+ (1920x1200) non- touch display 512 GB SSD I am a Med school student and I mostly use my laptop for school work, browsing, multimedia/streaming Netflix occasionally, music, casual gaming, and some casual photo editing. Below I'll talk about some of the most common problems with the XPS 13 lineup recently and how things went with me. • OVERHEATING The device started heating up the second I turned it on first, and soon the fans kicked in. I didn't do much for the first day other than updating the drivers, windows, etc. and casually checking stuff for faults. I did a BIOS update later that day, and that seemed to somewhat fix my overheating problem, as it only happened once in 3 days under minimal load. I felt the system wasn't performing as well as it should, and I read that many users did a fresh windows install to fix some performance issues.. So I did that, and the laptop's been working great and there's been no event of overheating or fans kicking in for the past few days under low-moderate load (with multiple apps running, multiple tabs open on chrome, spotify in the background, and word, powerpoint running all at the same time most often). • DISPLAY I've read some users having a slight yellow tint on their display, or a dead pixel right out of the box or soon after a few days' usage.. luckily I didn't have or don't have any dead pixel issue yet, but the yellow tint issue troubled me right out of the box. I don't know if it's a manufacturing fault, but after reading about some fixes on reddit, I tweaked the color settings in Intel Command Center and recaliberated the display via Color Management setting, and it's been looking much better to me! I'll post the link or my own settings if someone else has this problem. Also, a couple of days ago, the screen started flickering all of a sudden, and I had to close and open my lid to get rid of the trouble. It's happened only once, and nothing so far. Let's see if anything else happens. • BLUETOOTH ACCESSORIES CONNECTIVITY So I checked for this on reddit after noticing that my cursor would stutter randomly or the mouse (Logitech MX Anywhere 2) would stop working with the system for a couple of sec or so.. the mouse has been working great with my much older HP ProBook 450 G0 (yeah it's been a big updrade for me from that to the XPS 13 yayy). I tried tweaking some settings, updating or deleting the driver amd reinstalling.. nothing worked. Still looking for a solution on this. •WEBCAM QUALITY The webcam quality was utter rubbish the first time I tried it. I couldn't believe a laptop in 2020 could have such a bad webcam. I'm aware of the fact that the device doesn't have one of the best webcams in the market, but this particular one I have was horrible... It was very dark even in normal to good light conditions, and video calls were awful on the laptop for the first couple of days' testing. And then I did the fresh windows install, and it seems to be much better than before. It's still not great, but it is acceptable and functional to say the least. Apart from these, my views on some other aspects of the device are; • GENERAL PERFORMANCE General performance is great since the fresh windows install. Things are fast, smooth.. everything I expected. • SOUND QUALITY Sound quality is adequately good in my opinion, but not the best in the market. I've had no sound cracking issues or any other sort with the speakers. • TRACKPAD and KEYBOARD 'Excellent' is the one word I have to say So as you all can see, I too had some issues that people most commonly have, but in my opinion, other than bluetooth mouse issue (for which I am still looking for a solution by dell or other sources) and the screen flickering worry, things are either acceptable or excellent. I considered returning the unit for a while (for these annoyances as many on this subreddit or the DellXPS seem to suggest that), however, I believe tings could've been far worse. If the display issue doesn't show up again within the next one week, I'm keeping the laptop for all the other things/aspects it is great at! I know that purchasing an XPS13 nowadays is a complete matter of luck, and one can't exactly recommend whether to buy this laptop or not. With me though, so far things seem like I might have been lucky with it! Feel free to ask me any further questions! Good luck to anyone else who's thinking about purchasing this product :3 XPS13 XPS 13 [link] [comments]

Laptop with best cooling and maitenance Posted: 03 Dec 2020 03:08 PM PST I want to buy laptop for editing photos and playing games like ETS 2, OMSI or Cities:Skylines. (I guess I do not need the biggest power). Budget 1150$ / 25 000 CZK. Which one has the best cooling system? Lenovo Legion seems to have good cooling as it has big ventilation holes on sides (assume it's better than on the bottom), do you have other tips? Which laptops are the best for maintenance? I don't want to buy notebook, which will die right after warranty period. Also I would prefer if there would be exchangeable battery, RAM not glued with CPU etc (I know, desktop is better for that). As this is usual for old Dell Latitude or Lenovo ThinkPad, which work perfectly for years, but these do not have dedicated GPU. Big thanks in advance for your answers. [link] [comments]

Dell XPS 15 died, Any recommendations or should I get another? Posted: 03 Dec 2020 02:09 PM PST So I've had a Dell XPS 15 for almost 2 years. I got it as a graduation present and loved it. However, last week the motherboard died and I'm guessing it's because the laptop runs extremely hot. Luckily, I still had time on my warranty but Costco is refusing to fix it and is instead refunding me. I really like the XPS but I don't want to run into the same issue again. I read the newer model still runs hot plus it's a bit more expensive seeing as I got a great deal at Costco before. I don't want to downgrade so does anyone have any recommendations for similar laptops? Or should I try again with the same one? It has a lot of good reviews so I don't know if mine dying was a fluke or on me or what. Price range is up to $1,500 [link] [comments]
Need advice in buying one of these laptops Posted: 03 Dec 2020 01:58 PM PST Hi, so i have to decide between two laptops and just can't make up my mind. The two options are: Link 1: https://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/omen-laptop-15-ek0026nr I can't decide because one has a better CPU or a better GPU. There's also the thermals and weight which kinda matters but can live with a THICC one. So if anyone can help me buy it'll be appreciated. [link] [comments]
