All of a sudden I have multiple duplicats of two of my contacts

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 09:28 PM PST

Just noticed today that 2 of my contacts have created multiple duplicates (59 of one of them) not sure why this would have happened, but it will not allow me to merge them. Any suggestions?

Android phones with no camera and running only one app for a mental health facility?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 02:43 PM PST

I am doing a study in a mental health facility where we are giving smartphones to patients so that they can use a mood-logging app but not use anything else on the phone.

    1. Are there any Android phones that don't have cameras in them? Or is there a way to permanently disable a camera on a phone?
    2. What is the best way to lock an Android phone to only one app (in kiosk mode) in a way that can't be easily circumvented?

    Translating an andoird game's texts

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 06:27 PM PST

    Hi

I am noob so I searched about how to do it and found apktool to decompile it, edit what I can then compile and sign it.

I edited strings.xml and some .png files in drawable folder but only things that changed in the game was those .png files and the app name.

    What am I doing wrong?

    This is the game:

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.and.roid.game.popla.cqor&hl=en&gl=US

Edit: I didn't mention that I edited arrays.xml before and looks like the texts changed in game too but editing strings.xml don't change anything in the game

An Android App Doesn't Work on My Tablet. Will Installing its APK Solve My Problem?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 10:21 AM PST

Hi everyone. There is an Android App that I really need to use. Even though my tablet meets all the requirements of that app, for some reason it says "Your Device is not compatible with this version".

If I find the APK files of this app and manually install it, do you think this will solve the problem? If not, is there any way to solve such a problem?

Many thanks in advance! (Note: My tablet is Android 8.1.0, the app needs only Android 5.0+)

Upgraded my phone. Now BT is disconnecting

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 06:57 PM PST

I upgraded from a Pixel 2 XL to a 4a 5G. My Spigen Legato earbuds are now dropping the connection. It will drop the connection and then immediately reconnect. This started happening immediately after pairing to the new phone. I changed the battery optimization for BT services so that it is not battery optimized just in case this was the issue, but it is still happening.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you.

Maybe an Android question. Google search thinks cell data is suspicious. What's wrong?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 02:15 PM PST

I have a Oneplus 6t with Android Pie. My problem is simple but strange. Whenever I am on cell data only, and try to conduct a Google search, everytime it gives me the "we have detected suspcious activity at this address." Does anybody know what might be causing this? All I have to do is be back on wifi for the message to disappear.

I can go directly to a URL and use other search engines. its just google.

I am logged into my google account on my phone.

My carrier is Cricket, I'm in the US, and I have an unlimited data plan.

My lg v60 thinq 5g is acting up

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 09:25 PM PST

Alright, I will start at the beginning. I went to google, typed in "1 million digits of pi" and copied as much as I could and texted it to someone (its a long story). Thats when my phone started slowing down majorly. I deleted the message I had sent with the digits, and my phone was still really slow, almost unusable. My first thought was that maybe it was still on my cliptray, i tried to open my cliptray to clear it in desperation, and my cliptray come up. My phone was lagging majorly. I had reset it a few times and eventually went to bed. Then a bit after that it was working a bit better. Then my phone kept going in and out of "normal speed" and "takes 5 minutes for the keyboard to pop up". I have tried a lot of things and everything that worked was temporary before my phone went back to frustratingly slow. Any solutions? Sorry if im being stupid

    USB Charging Cable

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 09:21 AM PST

I want to know whether USB cables have current limits and how I can know this before buying a cable.

I have searched and done my research but to no avail. I understand clearly the differences between USB 2 and USB 3, including USB-C which is only a form factor, and not a description for the data transfer speed.

There are some vague descriptions about voltage and amperage, but I simply don't know yet how to know if a USB can go to 100 W, or what is its amperage or wattage limit. Does the connection matter?

Is USB 2 more limited current wise than future generations? Is the generation even relevant? I want to buy cables confident they will fast charge a phone, or even charge a laptop.

So far the best advice i have found online is, "buy a good quality cable if you want to fast charge" what does that even mean? Newer gen? Advertised material? Or outright pay more and risk it?

This may not be the best subreddit, but I really didn't know where else.

Is it possible to be hacked through OMADM (carrier network protocol) by just visiting a website?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 05:42 PM PST

I was visiting a website of an unscrupulous nature on incognito mode on my Galaxy S9+ (current updates) and I think I picked up a virus/hack of my data. I was opening multiple tabs from google search and then when I backed out to see all the tabs I had open suddenly I got a message that said OMADM was updating (I had never visited the website but it must have loaded to show me the previews in the tabs). Realizing that I was having an OH SHIT moment of I may have gone to a bad site I immediately started hitting back back back on my phone but I couldn't exit. The option to cancel was blurred out and I didn't dare hit OK. It eventually said profile update completed and I was like...dammit.

After looking into it, it appears OMADM allows Sprint (mine is Boost Mobile) to communicate with the phone and that if hackers were to use it they would use it to redirect your information through a proxy of their own nature first. However no one else seems to have ever gotten this after an internet search because there are no questions about it.

This was right around midnight so is it maybe just a coincidence because of the Sprint/T Mobile merger? My phone isn't running hot, no unknown apps are running in the background. Everything seems completely normal. My fingerprints have been acting weird but I have been clearing caches like crazy and I have been woodworking so those are more probable causes.

How do I know I've been hacked? Is it possible? If so how would I fix it?

Forgot Old Phone's screen lock but it's logged into one my Google account.

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 10:13 AM PST

I should have backed up those pictures when I could. I went to look for an old picture from my old phone and I was stumped at the screen lock preventing me from accessing all old memories. The phone is a redmi note 3, and it's accessing the Internet. The forgot password doesn't take it to the google account options like some solutions say it will. It asks to reset and I don't want to reset the phone.

I looked at the notification tray and it gave a google drive notification for my work mail. Is there a way I can do anything to reset the screen lock? Please help.

    Pixel 5 battery percentage issue

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 03:21 PM PST

I've had an issue where when I charge my pixel 5 on the pixel stand the battery percentage stays at 100% indefinitely until I restart the phone. Also, accubattery shows that it's battery capacity is 4500 mAh out of 4000 mAh. Is this an actual charging issue that could cause damage or is it just an annoying bug?

App isn't compatible with device - clearing play store data didn't work

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 02:35 PM PST

I'm trying to update an app (the awesome music-maker Incredibox), but the play store says "This app isn't compatible with your device anymore" and won't allow me to update. After searching online I found a lot of solutions about clearing cache and data of the Play Store, but that didn't work. The developers emailed me this video as a possible fix: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uo74AEnlmXQ but it didn't work either. Is there a reason why this wouldn't work? I haven't tried deleting the original app first, I wasn't sure if that would make it work, and didn't want to risk permanently losing the app (even if it is outdated)

Music player that integrates with Google maps and doesn't cost a monthly fee?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 01:54 PM PST

I'm trying to replace Google play music since Google killed it, and I'm looking for a music player app that

    1. Can be controlled hands-free while Google maps is running
    2. Doesn't cost a monthly subscription fee. (I'm okay with paying for a one-time purchase)

Use case: I like to ask Google to start playing a song or artist while I'm already driving and using Google maps. I don't want to have to touch my phone to do so, because that's about to become a primary offense in my state. It doesn't have to be a streaming app, I have plenty of mp3 files I can just leave on my phone.

New odd behavior with wired headphones (phantom notification sounds, double/triple click function) [S8]

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 01:03 PM PST

    Galaxy S8, Android 9

I have some really strange behavior that started a few days ago with my wired headphones w/ remote. I am able to replicate the issues with two different headphones, so I'm pretty sure it's something with the phone. Restarting the phone didn't help.

    1. When the phone is on silent or vibrate, I'll get notification sounds through the headphones which shouldn't happen. Sometimes it happens with an actual notification, and sometimes it happens when there isn't a real notification (I'll hear the notification sound while listening to a podcast, but I won't find any recent notifications after checking the phone).

    2. When sound mode is set on, I don't actually hear the notification sounds through the headphones when a notification comes in. If I unplug the headphones and everything works as expected (ie I can hear notification sounds through the phone speaker).

    3. My headphones (Bose Soundsport wired for Android), according to the manual, are supposed to have a double and triple click function using the remote for skipping forward/backwards. I was never able to get this to work, but my podcast app has a built-in double click function so it didn't matter too much. Well, now the double and triple click functions appear to be working both with my Bose headphones and another pair of Samsung headphones. This isn't a bad thing (it's nice to have the triple click function now), but certainly weird this just started along with the other issues above.

Any ideas or other troubleshooting I should do? Thanks!

Is Android 9 (Pie) still "supported", and what does this mean in practice?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 12:13 PM PST

I have Android 9 (pie) running on an LG G6 (2017). The battery is still reasonable and it suits my day to day needs, but I'm starting to worry about Security as the device hasn't had any updates from LG in a while.

I have read in various articles that Android 9 is still "supported", but what does this mean in practice when the last patch was in 2019? Should I play it safe and buy a new phone I don't otherwise need, or is a combination of Google Play & Android's innate security and third-party antimalware enough to see me through (ideally I'd like to buy a new phone in 2021, when I can go on holiday and thus use the camera)?

    Thanks and stay safe!

Very weird problem that persisted after wipe! (cannot access websites/apps until I delete then reset APN)

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 11:35 AM PST

(Samsung S10, Hades ROM, Android 10 rooted with magisk)

I have a very weird problem that happened suddenly, and that persisted even after I wiped and reinstalled the ROM.

Let's say I use YouTube and whatsapp the most, I open YouTube and I find it's not loading so I confirm on the browser. I then delete the APN and then reset APN. YouTube would work immediately. But then whatsapp would break and I do the same thing to get it to work!

The whole internet is not affected, everything is accessible except for the 4 apps I use the most.

I've been using this ROM for months to a year, this problem happened suddenly this week, I don't remember doing anything that could affect this.

How do I fix this annoying problem?! Thank you all.
