Lenovo Legion 5i or ASUS Zephyrus G14

Lenovo Legion 5i or ASUS Zephyrus G14

Lenovo Legion 5i or ASUS Zephyrus G14

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 05:56 PM PDT

    Hello,

I am at a bit of a crossroads here. I want to get a gaming laptop to supplement playing time on my actual PC. For the most part, the plan would be to play the games I can play on my Ryzen 5 3600/5700 XT/ 32GB 3200Mhz RAM. I fully understand I may not get that quality of gaming in a laptop, but with the games I play, I don't mind dropping down to lower quality settings to be able to sit in the living room and play while my wife watches shows every now and then. I also would like to be able to do some graphic design, 3D, and light video editing.

I'm not look at spending more than $1200, and this has led me to being between 2 different machines: The G14 and Legion 5i. The main reasons I am between those are what deals you can get right now on them.

The G14 can be had in a decent config right now at Best Buy for $1200.

The Legion 5i can be had in almost the same config at Lenovo's website for $1100.

One of the things drawing me to the Legion 5i over the G14 is that not only is it cheaper out of the gate, but Rakuten currently has a 10% cash back on Lenovo's website. So essentially, I'd be getting the taxes and a little bit more off of the 5i.

That being said, I am curious what you all think. From everything I have seen, the G14's Ryzen chip and 2060's performance is top of the line for this range of laptops. The 5i's specs are similar but I am sure it might take a bit of a back seat to the G14. And I am willing to pay a little more if the general consensus is that the G14 is just more of a solid machine when it comes to everything I want to do. But if the difference will be so minimal that it won't matter, that affects the decision as I could pay less for the 5i.

    What are your thoughts? Thanks!

EDIT: Welp. Slept too long on the idea. Now both of those deals are dead in the water lol. Back to the drawing board. Thanks everyone!

Which of these two <$500 laptops should I buy my IT studying boyfriend?

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 02:46 PM PDT

I'm looking for a <$500 laptop to get for my bf who is currently studying IT. He'll mostly be running VMs via VMWare and/or Virtual Box, and setting up and running virtual labs to practice networking, cybersecurity etc. He will also be participating in a lot of CTFs.

Otherwise, he pretty much just browses the web and watches stuff on YouTube, Netflix and Hulu. As for gaming, he would only do extremely light gaming.

Would you guys recommend that I get him the HP Pavilion 15.6" Horizon Blue Laptop (15-eh0090wm) which is expected to go on sale for $379 next month, or the HP Pavilion 15-dk0096wm which will go on sale for $449?

    Thank you!

    Thinkpad(s) vs XPS 15

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 11:24 PM PDT

So I've configured a couple of laptops with nearly identical specs and I'm just curious if anyone has any opinions on these brands or models. Anything I should be aware of or on the lookout for. Why one would be better than the others.

    The models are:

    1. Thinkpad X1 Extreme Gen 3
    2. Thinkpad P17
    3. Dell XPS 15

    The shared specs are

    • 512 SSD
    • 16gb RAM (2x8)
    • Windows 10 Pro
    • FHD Anti Glare Screen

    Differences include:

    • i7-10750h in the Lenovos vs the older 9750h in the Dell
    • GTX 1650 in the Dell, GTX 1650 Ti in the X1, and the T2000 in the P17.
    • Larger screen on the P17.
    • The Lenovos seem to have quite a few more ports.

I get a discount on Lenovo through my workplace, so with that and the "doorbuster" sale going on right now, all 3 laptops are <$100 apart.

    X1 for $1294

    P17 for $1369

    XPS 15 for $1319

I was sold on the Dell until I saw how much my work discount was on the others. So with prices this close together, does one of these stand head and shoulders above the rest? I'm mainly concerned about running a DAW and VST's without the constant need to bounce my audio. All the instrument libraries will be stored on an external SSD (thanks Prime Day).

Laptop for League of Legends around 500€ for my brother (France)

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 05:26 AM PDT

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
550€ (can be more expensive, up top 750 but if it's really necessary and extremely worth the money
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
      No
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Battery life is irrelevant, build quality also, the only important aspect is for it to not lag at all, and run league smoothly on minimum settings (and for example be able to switch from the league client to a chrome window smoothly to search for runes, stuff etc.)
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
      unimportant
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
The bigger the better but not a deciding factor at all.
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
      Only gaming.
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
League of legends. Minimum settings is fine, fps around 60/90. The smoothest the better but he really doesn't care AT ALL about 144hz or stuff like that. Just clean looking and not choppy.
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
      None
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
My brother really isn't much of a tech connoisseur, he likes stuff that works and doesn't lag pretty much so this is what I am looking for. I looked at the honor magicbook 14 for 550€ which sounds fine, but wondering if there are any laptops specifically made for gaming at this price range cause i don't really know how to compare cpus and gpus.

    Student Laptop

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 05:19 AM PDT

Hello there, I was just looking for a student Laptop for normal use as I study biology so it doesn't need to be anything crazy with a graphics card or anything. I was looking at the Asus Zenbook:

    https://www.argos.co.uk/product/9085538?$ja=tsid%3A11674%7Cprd%3A6361382&utm_source=Future+Publishing+Ltd&utm_medium=affiliates&utm_campaign=www.argos.co.uk&utm_content=14023759&utm_custom1=6361382&utm_custom2=Other&cmpid=cojun&cjevent=131a439517ab11eb834301fa0a18050f&dclid=CKDTyJnb0uwCFQc_0wodDMwD9g

But was wondering if I could get anything for a similar price with maybe a little more memory or a slightly faster CPU. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated :)

Something inexpensive for video editing/photography ($500-1000)

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 04:49 AM PDT

My wife is looking for a new (to her) at least that she can use to edit her drone footage and images. She's an engineer and licensed pilot, but she's been getting by with Adobe Premiere on our ancient Mac Mini, which I'd like to decommission eventually.

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase.:
      Willing to spend $500-$1000
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
      Yes, please
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
      1) Performance 2) quality 3) battery 4) form factor
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
It needs to be able to fit into a backpack and carried by a relatively small person.
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
      14" and above
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, possibly AutoCAD if she decides to use it for other work
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
      N/A
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Nothing specific, but not crap would be great.
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
We don't have a lot of extra toy money sitting about, but she's doing pro-work as a side hustle. She's very frugal and right now "getting by" with the old Mac is good enough for her. She's not even a Mac person, so a Windows machine would be fine (and, in many ways better, she has an old Windows laptop she uses for her ancient edition of AutoCAD and some hydro programs that I don't know if she even needs anymore). If you can't think of a specific laptop, please let me know what combination of specs I should probably keep an eye out on. I'm not terribly certain of video stuff.

Looking for a cheap, lightweight speedy Windows laptop for web browsing, streaming and remote work (14"+, <£500, UK)

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 04:02 AM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a cheap, speedy and lightweight laptop with a decent resolution screen.I want something that is lightweight and speedy (SSD is a must) that I can quickly whip out as needed and can travel around with - my intention it to mainly use it for remote working away from home (I can connect to my powerhouse work PC remotely) but also web browsing and occasionally streaming. I already have a battlestation for gaming etc. so it doesn't need to be super high powered with a graphics card etc. and doesn't need a lot of storage. It does need to have a decent screen resolution though (at least 1080p). Essentially I'm after a Chromebook/Macbook Air but with Windows OS.

Any suggestions for laptops I can buy in the UK for £500 or less? Questionnaire below:

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

    £500, UK

    Are you open to refurbs/used?

    Preferably not

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Lightweight with solid build quality. Performance doesn't need to be amazing but I don't want anything sluggish.

How important is weight and thinness to you?

Quite important that it is light

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    14"+, at least 1080p

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

No. Only programs would be Microsoft Office very occasionally and software I use for remote working (VMWare)

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

    N/A

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Not particularly, good touchpad would be a plus.

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

A quiet laptop for AAA games

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 04:00 AM PDT

    Hi all,

I am looking for quiet laptop, if possible around 40 decibels while gaming current games (like flight simulator) and future like cyberpunk. Not necessarily in ultra but something decent.

I know that quiet and gaming laptop are not going together most of the time but my old laptop (asus rog) had this characteristics while having a temp around 60 degre GPU and CPU so I know it exists.

    Budget:1500€ max

    Thanks for your suggestions.

    1000 $USD

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
      yes
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
small and well performing are highest priority
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
      somewhat
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
      under 14"
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
some games, Civ6 , Cities Skylines
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
      Low setting is ok
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
      no frills
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
      NO INTEL INTEGRATED GRAPHICS

I find myself quite nomadic which makes it difficult to casually play some of the games I enjoy such as Civ and Cities Skylines. Ive been looking for a laptop that I can jam into my backpack, but also play some games on (on low settings). It seems that the only laptops with even an entry level dedicated GPU are massive 14 or 15 inch beasts. Literally the only thing I can find that somewhat fits the bill is a Lenovo IdeaPad 720s, which is discontinued I believe. Regardless anybody have any suggestions for a small but powerful laptop, no bells and whistles like touchpads or touchscreens, and absolutely not an intel integrated GPU (amd vega 8+ is okay). SOMEONE POINT ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION

    Looking for a general purpose & Linux/programming laptop, < $1500 (US)

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 07:53 PM PDT

I'm looking for a (preferably new) laptop. I will exclusively run Linux, likely Ubuntu with i3 on it. I do a lot of programming, web development, and general web browsing. I'm not going to be doing a ton of heavy duty editing or gaming on it, though I would like something that can handle mid-level graphics software. I've been working on a really low end laptop for a while, so an upgrade in performance and build is really what I'm going for.

I know many people like ThinkPads for Linux, but I'm not really sure why and I don't know if it's the best choice for me? I've also seen many people suggest the Dell XPS 13/15. This series looks really beautiful to me, but the 13" screen seems a bit small, and the 15" with reasonable RAM and SSD space gets pretty pricey for me (though I'm not necessarily closed to the idea).

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase:
Though my budget isn't fixed, for now I would like recommendations under $1500 USD.
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
Don't know a ton about how this affects the quality of the machine, so please educate me! Open to it, but would probably prefer new.
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Performance, build quality, form factor, battery life. May be unconventional but I'm not too worried about battery life.
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
I really like the look and feel of a thin and lightweight laptop, however I don't think I should limit my options based on that.
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
Not really sure, but I think 15" sounds about right for me. Members of my family have 13", and though I haven't used one, it just seems a bit small.
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
I have historically done video editing/animation, so I may in the future. (Hitfilm & Blender). However I am now primarily programming. I don't game, nor have I done any CAD, but I wouldn't like to limit myself.
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
I don't care about touchscreen, finger-print readers or optical drives. Not as picky about keyboards as I know some are, but I would like a reasonably good sized and feeling keyboard and touchpad. Build quality is also pretty important to me.

Thank you in advance! If you have any questions, let me know.

    <$1000 13-14 inch laptop that won't self-immolate! (USA)

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 10:16 PM PDT

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
      • $1000 US and below.
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
      • If it's a certified refurb.
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
      • As per title, my top priority is finding something reliable with a sensible thermal design. If it's made out of plastic or looks frumpy or something that's fine.
      • My preferred form factor is a 13.3 in. 2-in-1. 14-inchers are less desirable but still fine. 2-in-1 capability can be discarded if necessary.
      • Performance-wise, I won't be asking a ton of this machine but I'd ideally like to keep it for several years so it shouldn't be a potato. Looking for at least a 4-core CPU and 8GB RAM. Don't need discrete graphics.
      • Battery life doesn't need to be stellar.
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
      • It would be nice if it wasn't a nugget, since I will be taking this traveling with me. Cooling performance and reliability takes priority though.
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
      • 13.3 in, second choice 14 in.
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
      • The regular web browsing/office work.
      • Some RAW photo editing in RawTherapee (nothing insane though).
      • Will probably do some light coding - Either in Eclipse or Visual Studio, most likely.
      • Game playing will be very limited. If it can run FFXIV @ >30 FPS/720p on lowest settings, that would be just fine.
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
      • Reliable build quality and good thermals are paramount.
      • I'd like to have the ability to upgrade the RAM/SSD and replace the battery.
      • It should have at least 1 USB-A port, bonus points for a full-size SD card reader. Type C is expendable.
      • The screen should be decently color-accurate, but brightness doesn't need to be stellar. 1080p/60hz/300 nit is plenty.
      • I'd prefer a Ryzen R5/7 CPU for their performance and graphics, but this is not a dealbreaker.
      • I gravitate to the smaller 2-in-1s but any 13-14 inch laptop is acceptable.
      • No Lenovos. ThinkPads are fine though.
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
      • This laptop will be coming with me when I travel, so I'd like it to be portable. I have a desktop at home that does all my heavy lifting, so it doesn't need to be a top performer or have a huge amount of storage, but it does need to be reliable and reasonably cool-running. A 2-in-1 like the HP ENVY x360 13-ay0021nr would be the most specced-out thing I would consider, and would tick almost all my boxes. I actually really like that model but am unsure about the thermal performance.
      • Unnecessary Backstory: I've been trying to replace my ancient Dell Latitude E6510, which I was very happy with. It was built like a tank, didn't try to set itself on fire, and had a first-gen i5/8GB RAM/a really low end NVS 3100M GPU. It filled most of my needs besides having a mediocre screen and not being able to run FFXIV to my low standards (it almost managed, though). I'd still be using it, but it just became too big and heavy to take along. In trying to find a replacement I've had run-ins with a few laptops with really awful thermal performance and it's left me feeling very discouraged about the state of the laptop market. I tried a newer refurbished Dell Latitude 14-inch which roasted itself to death, a Dell Inspiron 15-inch that was on the road to doing the same before I returned it, and an Asus GA502 which would regularly push the CPU to 90C at idle while sounding like a jet engine. Since those debacles I have honed my criteria and am ready to try again.

HP Spectre x360 14 vs Asus UX563FD vs Lenovo Yoga 9i

    Hey.

I am deciding between those three 2in1 laptops, that I will use for some basic Photoshop, watching movies, maybe some Fortnite once in a while, but mostly for university work. I would like something with good battery, nice screen and something that will not lag when I do the tasks above.

Clueless laptop tech buyer needs help

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 12:32 PM PDT

So I'm considering finally moving over to pc/laptop gaming Instead of going for the new xbox. I was wondering how the Alienware m15 - i5100300H would perform compared to the xbox. I'm also in the military so the fact I can take it with me is a big bonus however I want something that is future proof and already the M15 is pretty expensive. I would like to know if its worth it and maybe if you know any other laptops that would be on par with the xbox. Thanks guys

I need a laptop but not a amazing one

Hello, first time posting here. I wanted to ask if you guys know of a good laptop to use as a new architecture student while having a very high spec desktop at home. The desktop for architecture is good but I can't take it with me everywhere so I need a laptop but I don't know what kind.

[Canada] Need something decent for my mom under 1k

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 08:16 PM PDT

I'm looking for a laptop for my mom. It won't be her main work machine. Used laptops are fine to suggest as well, but relatively new is what I'm going for here.

Requirements: - Number pad (full numpad preferred, but I know most 15 inch laptops with numpads have shrunken ones. She said she might be willing to settle for that if the rest of the laptop is worth it.) - Multiple display outputs (maybe HDMI and DP or USB-C?) - Good battery life (the current machine has about 1.5h, so basically anything better than that is good. She doesn't need cutting edge battery life, 7-8h would be too much for her probably.) - Webcam (and NO nose hair monitors please, it's gotta be ON TOP of the screen!) - Edit: forgot to mention it's gotta be a Windows machine. No Chromebooks please.

Specs don't have to be better than an i5 or equivalent, she won't be gaming or doing graphic intensive work, just lots of windows open. I know she would prefer a 15 inch laptop, but not many of those cram in full number pads. So feel free to suggest 17 inch models as well.

    Thanks for the help.

Is the base model 2020 13 inch MacBook Pro ($1200) worth it?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 12:01 AM PDT

I'm still uncertain of which I should get. I will be using the MacBook I buy mainly for programming, browsing, gaming (games like cuphead, among us, hollow knight, etc.), and possibly editing videos/photos for fun. I'm still new to programming but are there any aspects of it that require good specs to do certain things once I increase my knowledge and abilities? For example, making a 2D game from scratch (like Mario)? Also, I want to download windows 10 alongside macOS. Would a base model 13 inch be a good purchase for what I want to use it for?

Sorry for the boatload of questions.

Looking for a <$750 laptop for basic use and (very?) light gaming

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 08:00 PM PDT

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

Ideally $750 USD or less, before shipping. Purchasing in the US.

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?

      No.

    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Performance, build quality, battery life, form factor.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

Not a huge issue, but would prefer it to not be extremely heavy. Should be able to carry it in a bag for a long time comfortably

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

      13-15 inches ideally.

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Light gaming. Things like Civ 6, Phasmophobia, and Tabletop Simulator.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

As stated above, Civilization 6, Phasmophobia, Tabletop Simulator, maybe Minecraft. As long as they run without lag, I'm not picky about settings.

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

I guess good input devices. Reliability would be appreciated.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I use my laptop daily, but not usually very intensively. Video streaming, Google Suite, RStudio, relatively light games. Just looking for a reliable, not-too-heavy laptop that will let me run games/programs smoothly. Ideally with a SSD. My current one (a ThinkPad) is about 5 years old, and the graphics card isn't good enough to play Phasmophobia.

I've been looking at Asus, Lenovo, and Acer models mostly, but I'm open to suggestions.

    Thank you for any suggestions!

Need a gaming laptop that can be used as a work laptop and light gaming.

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 07:52 PM PDT

Over the past few months I was thinking of getting a good $1500 laptop with a 2070 and thunderbolt 3 but I am also getting a xbox series x and I realized that a gaming laptop at that price is kind of a waste of money when you have a series x and thunderbolt 3 I realized I was probably never going to use. So right now I just need a normal laptop for school work that can do 1080p gaming because I think it would be a waste If I got a laptop without a gpu. So I just need help finding a laptop that has these specifications -300 nits no less - Screen more than 50%srgb 98 would be nice - Gpu-1660ti - good thermals(almost got the dell g5,but thermals :( ) - 15 inch or above - 16gb ram - fine with any build quality - webcam -NO chinese company especially lenovo My max budget is $1000 will be willing to go higher if drastic change. I know series x will be like a lot more powerful but I need a normal laptop but I want to be able to game sometimes on that laptop so I basically need a normal work laptop that can do some good 1080p gaming. I am also willing to wait for black friday I just need an idea of what to look for on sale that has these specifications. Sorry for any bad grammar or excessive use of words I dont usually post on reddit and I try to get my point through. I know a lot of you will recommend the LENOVO LEGION but I dont want any chinese products(no offense to anyone) I want something like hp, dell, acer, asus, msi and etc.

Looking for a new Laptop, $700-900 range (US)

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 04:48 PM PDT

    Hello everyone,

The desktop that I use has been slowing down recently and hasn't been able to keep up with what I do on it. Especially with online school and new software I have been using. I also want a get a laptop instead of when I need to go places with it.

    • **Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless

$700-900, open to going close to 1k, but really would like to stay at this range.

    • **Are you open to refurbs/used?**

    No.

    • **How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?**

Performance is the most important to me as I want the most bang for my buck. Don't really I am also open to 2-in-1s and would like something with good build quality.

    • **How important is weight and thinness to you?**

Not very important; will have this laptop for the most part on a monitor and will only be taking it out on certain occasions.

    • **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.**

13" would be my preferred screen size but willing to go with anything.

    • **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.**

Yes, I will be doing a lot of CAD; specifically AutoCAD, Fusion360, Blender, and possibly Solidworks in the future. I will also possibly be using this laptop for video editing in the future.

    • **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?**

I will be running games like Minecraft, Rocket League, but I really want something that will also be able to run more powerful games too. I would like at least 40 frames, but would really like a solid 60.

    • **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?**

A good trackpad; will mostly be using external peripherals.

    • **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.**

I was looking into the Dell XPS 13 but it seems a little overpriced for the specs I would be getting. I would also really like to have at least 8gb (DDR4) of ram and 256gb SSD, but I would like more ram if possible. I have no preference for either AMD or Intel.

    Thanks!

Is this a good deal? Refurbished Acer

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 10:20 PM PDT

    Acer Swift 5 - 899AUD

I am looking for a lightweight laptop for programming. This is well below my budget (1500AUD), but I have heard not good things about Acer build quality and throttling/heat issues.

How does it compare to something like an X1 Carbon or a Zenbook 14?

    Cheers! :)

    Rugged/Durable and Affordable Chromebook

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 02:03 PM PDT

After three years and lots of spills and drops and other beatings from my two young boys, my Asus C202 Chromebook is about done. I paid $180 for it and it appears to be discontinued and over $400 on Amazon.

I need something comparable as I really only need something for watching Netflix/Hulu/Youtube TV, etc. and using the internet. It needs to be able to take a punch though with these two lunatics running around in the house. I don't want a tablet or anything that separates, just a straight up laptop Anything sub-$300 that fits the bill and won't go bust immediately?
