| laptop repair and selling questions Posted: 31 Oct 2020 02:11 PM PDT I have an MSI GL62 6QD laptop. I'm sending it off for repair under a policy that covers accidental damage. The damage on the laptop is a crack in the screen and a lot of damage to the casing to the point that it needs to be taped or it would come off. I'm happy for it to be repaired and returned and I also don't mind if it's written off as whatever happens i'm buying a new laptop anyway. However if it is written off would they likely recycle things like the hard drive to sell? As I will be selling it even if it is repaired I will reset my laptop and I may as well do that before I send it so here's the questions I have. I intend to wipe free space with cc cleaner. I will then do a complete factory reset of the laptop, Is that good enough to stop anyone from accessing deleted files like personal information on the ssd drive? I could go further and wipe the ssd drive completely but would a technician need the operating system installed to do their job despite the damage being external? If what I've said isn't good enough what should I do before my laptop is sent away/sold? How likely is a write off? My laptop is 4 years old and as I said the damage is to the screen and casing which will probably need replacing. Any advice whether it's a question I've asked or not would be appreciated. It's inside a slim laptop (Lenovo C340) and is under some loads (moving around 12gigs worth of files). Still, I don't think it should run that hot. I want to disassembly and check what's causing it to run that hot. Probably will try to add heatsink if it doesn't have one as well. That is if my friend allows me, since she think we'll void the warranty if we disassembled it, considering it's still brand new (bought it on September 9th). I know you don't get much for your money nowdays anyway lol but I'm looking for the best possible laptop for my teen who is into gaming (roblox, mincraft and all of that jazz) £500 really is the top top top I can do and I've had to scrimp n save like mad just for that. I'm not under any illusions I'd be able to get anything that would play games like grand theft auto or call of duty or anything thats going to be mental on the gpu. I'm realy not good with techy stuff so I was hoping one of you kind guys (or girls) may be able to point me in the direction of where I can get the best bang for my buck laptop wise. I'm UK based just so you know. Any help would be hugeeeely appriciated as I don't want to buy something that is a complete disapointment come xmas day. After the year we've had (the whole world) I really just want her to be really happy with a brand new laptop she really does deserve.
