Is it worth to wait for Black Friday deals? Posted: 27 Sep 2020 09:24 PM PDT Hi guys, I am looking to buy a laptop. I want a high end laptop (RTX 2070S, 16GB ram, i7 10750 - something like this) Should I wait for Black Friday for a deal? How good are these deals usually? Thanks for the help! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Sep 2020 02:47 PM PDT So I ended up changing what I was deciding between after looking more into these two. I'm not entirely sure which is better? Aspire AMD RYZEN 7 4700U 8 core 8GB RAM 512 GB NVMe SSD 15.6" FHD Swift 3 AMD RYZEN 7 4700U 8 core 8GB RAM 512GB NVMe SSD 14" FHD IPS I heard some saying the aspire is much better than the swift and that the swift has awful screen quality and I need to place the order soon tonight and now I'm not sure which to get. Or if there might be a better option for $700 I'm mainly using it for ps2 emulation, rpg maker MV and MZ and Android emulation and some video and photo editing as well as school work if I decide to go back to school. Not really planning on playing any graphically intense games like the newest doom or ff7 remake when it comes out on pc etc I don't really care about being portable so being bulky is fine I just care about having good build quality to last and not having overheating issues. Upgrading from Chromebook 3120 (AUS) Posted: 27 Sep 2020 10:10 PM PDT Hello! I've been using a Dell Chromebook 11 (3120) as my non-gaming/study/out-of-the-house laptop for quite a few years now, but the low ram and screen size is getting quite frustrating. I have a gaming PC at home but finding good specs for this is a bit tricky when I don't have game system requirements to compare to! My main concerns are battery life and ram so it can handle lots of tabs without much issue,, which my Chromebook is starting to struggle with now. LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

Budget Laptop for Photoshop/LR Posted: 28 Sep 2020 02:22 AM PDT Hi, I'm looking around to find a laptop under $1000 (preferably in the 600-700 range, if possible) that will be able to run Photoshop and LR. I've seen some articles suggesting older model MacBooks, and Acer Aspires and Zenbooks, but I don't know enough about laptops to know for sure. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

UK 15' ~1200GBP budget alternatives to the HP Envy x360 Posted: 28 Sep 2020 04:04 AM PDT Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: 1200GBP Are you open to refurbs/used? No How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? 2-in-1's that have some oomph How important is weight and thinness to you? Pretty important since I'll be taking it with me to university Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15' Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I don't have very high requirements, I might use the device for light gaming on less demanding games or a little bit of Python programming/MATLAB simulations. I mostly want to be able to take notes using the device. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? League of Legends, highest settings with at least 60fps Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Reliable build quality is very important to me Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. So when I was doing my research on my own, I stumbled upon the 15.6' Ryzen 7 HP envy x360 and that ticked all the boxes, except for the fact that its completely out of stock no matter which store I checked. I'm essentially looking for alternatives to it, or if you guys had any ideas on which stores still have them in stock (I checked Amazon, John Lewis, Argos, HP store directly and had no dice). I could possibly order it via Newegg but I'd need the device by the 9th of October so I wasn't sure if it'd arrive on time given it ships from the US. Thanks for the help in advance! :) [link] [comments] |

German student looking for a laptop under 1000€! Posted: 28 Sep 2020 03:14 AM PDT Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: Under 800€, maximum of 1000€ but only of it's a very good price-performance-ratio * Are you open to refurbs/used? Yes! * How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? From most to least important: Performance > build quality > battery life / form factor * How important is weight and thinness to you? It should be portable, that's why I want a laptop, but portability isn't that important to me. Preferably under 7 pounds / 3kg. * Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15", 17" is fine too * Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Gaming; mostly The Sims 4 and Sea of Thieves Microsoft Office for uni/work * If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? At least middle settings, the more the better. But not the lowest please. * Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Windows 10 Should have multiple USB sockets and Bluetooth. If possible a DVD drive but that's not very important to me. Graphic card should be good for the price. It would make me happy to have a rainbow light up keyboard but again, that's not very important, functionality is the key! * Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Is buying a gaming laptop, but not using it for gaming a good idea? Posted: 28 Sep 2020 02:01 AM PDT Hello, I live in the Philippines, where laptops typically have insane prices (like 15% more expensive than US models). My budget is 40000 php (thats around 820usd), and my biggest requirements for a new laptop are:
I found out that all the consumer-grade laptops with the 4500u at around 35-38k php like the Swift 3, Vivobook 14, and ideaPad slim 3, all have soldered 8gb memory, which is a dealbreaker for me (except the ideapad, it has one extra sodimm). Now enter the 42k price point - the Acer nitro 5. Although it has very low 4gb ram (not a problem, I can do upgrades myself) and a previous gen ryzen 5 3550h, it has a dedicated gtx 1650, 120hz display, an extra m2, a sata drive, and 2 sodimm slots which goes all the way to 32gb. My use case would be mostly web browsing, programming java, and doing web development. There will be some occasional light-medium gaming - previous gen titles like gta v and metal gear solid. I don't intend on cranking game's graphical settings to the max, as I would want to minimize wear and tear. I don't intend to play the newest AAA titles either. Considering the gaming laptop's 2 sodimm slots, m2 slot, sata drive and superior cooling, I objectively think that they are more futureproof and would fare and last longer than the consumer-grade vivobooks, ideapads etc. The only con that I see is the lack of the ryzen 4000 series, which can be found in the newer variants (around 50k). I haven't experienced owning one of these budget gaming laptops before, so I don't know if I'm betting too much on the "it will last a long time" line, so if anybody can convince me that they won't, please do. Also, if anyone can recommend a laptop with the Ryzen 4000 series and non-soldered RAM, I'd look into it as well. tldr: I want a laptop with upgradeable components, as I intend on using it for a very long time. Most consumer models sadly come with soldered ram, but gaming laptops do not. LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

Need a heavy duty gaming laptop that can handle high fps at high settings. $3000 before Tax budget. Posted: 28 Sep 2020 01:59 AM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
My budget is $3000 give or take. I'll be buying this laptop In the United States, Texas if it helps.
New only please.
Looking for a nice and sturdy build so thickness is no issue. The fans being loud is not the worst as long as it keeps the laptop cool. The laptop will probably be plugged in most of the time but a decent battery is appreciated.
N/A
Some light video editing with premier and after effects so cpu and ram is a bit more on the important side. 32 gigs of RAM would be nice but 16 is not a deal breaker. I'm looking to play games like Borderlands 3, Modded Skyrim, Arma 3, and a couple other triple A studio games.
60fps is my standard but 120 would be nice. I'm hoping to be able to play games like Modded Minecraft, Borderlands 3, Hitman 2, Dmc 5, Resident evil 2, and other games at high.
I've looked at the MSI GE66 Raider with an i9-10980HK and a rtx 2080 super and it seems really nice. I just wanted to check with yall and see if I could get any suggestions. Thank y'all kindly 🤠[link] [comments] |
Searching 700€ Laptop for School(Italy) Posted: 28 Sep 2020 01:59 AM PDT I'm searching a Laptop for School. I would also buy from another european country. Decent battery life for word etc. How important is weight and thinness to you?Relatively unimportant Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.13"-14" Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.Mostly Word, Powerpoint etc. on the go. For everything else i will most of the time use my PC at home. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?Touch screen would be pretty nice, Fingerprint too, I really want to be able to charge the laptop with USB-C. It should have an AMD Processor. Edit: [link] [comments] |
Is the Asus Tuf right for me? Or Acer or MSI??? Posted: 27 Sep 2020 07:58 PM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: Under $1,500 is ideal. Are you open to refurbs/used? I suppose if it was a great deal. How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Build quality is high priority for me. I'm coming from a Macbook Pro from 2015, and I like the feel of how dense it is, but time to go back to PC. How important is weight and thinness to you? Weight is important, but thinness isn't as much. I will take it on a short bike commute daily. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. I think 15.6 or under is good. 17in seems WAY too big. and my Macbook is 13in which is also fine. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Sometimes a bit of video editing, but nothing crazy. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I want to be able to play higher end games, but I also don't really care about Ultra-high settings. And mostly I play pretty low end games like Rimworld; but don't want to limit myself if I want to pop on a Battlefield or GTA or Cyberpunk in the future. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I don't need any bells and whistles. Just a long-lasting, durable, high quality computer that plays high graphics games on medium settings. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I LOVE the look of the Razer Blade & Acer Predator, but they seem a higher price point than necessary? The Asus Tuf seems nice because of the durability and great price, but will it play the games I want? Or is there a better option? [link] [comments] |

Questions about laptops and recommendations Posted: 27 Sep 2020 09:38 PM PDT Hey y'all, I'm looking to buy a laptop and I've been super overwhelmed with all the options and I just want to get some questions answered I'm a business student, so I need to run Excel quite extensively, so MacBooks aren't on my radar (< if this matters)
I'm a college student, with about 2-3 years left so I really need a laptop that can last. My old one barely lasted 3 years and it was borderline torture to use (HP laptop if it matters) Any recommendations/tips/advice? [link] [comments] |

How important is weight and thinness to you? Weight is important. Shouldn't be too heavy. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 13 inches, not more! Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I usually use Canva, Rocketium, MS Office which aren't too heavy I think? I run them pretty okay on my Macbook Air with 4GB RAM If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I don't game, but if Sims could run on it, it'll be nice. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I really need a good keyboard. I love my Macbook's keyboard. I type a lot. Should be good build. No touch screen. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I have been using my Macbook Air for 4.5 years now. Sadly the battery needs replacement so I am planning to get a new one for myself. I would buy the same laptop again but it's not available anymore. Sweden but would buy from other poaces in europe Posted: 27 Sep 2020 11:49 PM PDT Sweden - laptop for programming LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
Preferably not more than 8 000kr, but max 12 000kr maybe a little bit more
Performance, build quality, battery life in that order
I would like to be able to carry it around without getting too tired but will make do with what i can get
Visual studio, unreal engine 4 (maybe other game engines), krita, steam (crusaders kings 3 and probably other games but i will uninstall the ones that i don't use at the moment), minecraft, origin (sims 4 with a lot of cc) The list is in an order of priority so the first three ones are absolutely necessary (a program for 3d modeling like maya might probably also be something i will need space for). The rest is only something that i would like to have but will make do without. Altough i would like to at least have minecraft or the steam game(s)
I like the keyboards that light up for when it's dark. The swedish letters (åäö) would be important to have too so there's that
