Customized desktop on Linux Mint -- I want to revert it to default but don't know how! Please help. Posted: 31 Aug 2020 11:54 AM PDT Linux Mint Mate I did some customization of my desktop and I'd like to revert it to how it came upon installation. Problem is that I'm not quite sure how to do this! The difference is that my desktop items don't appear on my home screen (where you normally see desktop items). If I click on Files, my desktop is still there and usable, but it doesn't display on my home screen by default. I would like to have my desktop appear on the home screen as default (once again). I like saving some files there, etc. [link] [comments] |
Mac Mini - Ubuntu - Mounting a WD Myplaybook NAS Posted: 31 Aug 2020 09:21 AM PDT Hey Everyone, I recently put Ubuntu Desktop on my Mac Mini as its no longer running a supported MacOS version. It's used for Plex which I've installed, however the media is stored on a WD MyPlayBook and whilst I can mount it via the file explorer it's not being seen when setting up Plex. I have read a few posts online that talk through using cifs however, I'm struggling to get the NAS to mount that way. Has anyone done this succesfully? I'll update with error codes when I can but any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA [link] [comments] |

Magically turn 10 into Dockers Posted: 31 Aug 2020 02:50 PM PDT Is there an easy/simple way to convert a win10 setup including 70+TB storage space? Can I build out everything on a laptop then just install the hard drive into my server? Trying not to power down the server too much or for too long. [link] [comments] |
Email Client (Linux + Android) Posted: 31 Aug 2020 02:40 PM PDT Gmail Protonmail Tutanota Zoho My phone is filling up with Email Clients and I don't trust Samsung email client + it is not available for Linux. And Thunderbird is not available for Android. Is there an opensource email Client which is available to both Linux and Android. The other thing. I'm not able to sync/add directly to other email services. When I tap on add new contact, there is just the option of Gamil and Samsung account (offline options too). Also in the Accounts tab in the android settings there are only GOOGLE, WhatsApp, Reddit, Samsung and Signal. There is no ZOHO, Tutanota or Protonmail. I want my phone to add the contacts to Tutanota o Zoho account and automated syncing. Like Google does. Is it possible? [link] [comments] |

Manjaro limited installing options. Posted: 31 Aug 2020 10:25 AM PDT I wanted to reinstall my Manjaro distro on external WD Elements Harddrive. For the first time, everything went fine but when I want to reinstall it now, I no longer have "erase disk and install OS" option but only manual partitioning option. How do I get that installer to its default settings? [link] [comments] |
Best file system for longevity of ssd Posted: 31 Aug 2020 06:26 AM PDT I have a samsung evo 850 pro ssd what would the best file system be for the longest life out of the ssd? I read f2fs was for ssd made by samsung would this be my best choice or would I be better of using ext4 and disable Journaling? Not worried about data loss just life of ssd also boot speed. Sharing: Simple Script to generate CSS/HTML. Posted: 31 Aug 2020 09:46 AM PDT Hey all, I wanted to share a script I wrote today for those as new at Linux and bash scripting as I am and are also making websites on the side as a learning project. The script basically asks a few questions, you answer them and voila, you got a template based on the CSS Grid Fluid design. It's perhaps not the best of scripts compared to the hardcore coders, but I kept it as simple as possible. No copyright and feel free to use it, make it your own, etc. [link] [comments] |

Issues with simultaneous audio? Posted: 31 Aug 2020 01:13 PM PDT I'm running Ubuntu 20.04 and I'm using two flat-screen tvs for monitors, they both have built in speakers so I figure "why not use them?" I've installed paprefs and enabled dual output but the system will only choose one TV and the headphone jack regardless of what I do and I can't find a way to manually pick which devices to use. Does anyone have any advice on this? [link] [comments] |

Linux app to run Windows from USB Posted: 31 Aug 2020 11:12 AM PDT Hey guys I'm currently using Ubuntu and was wondering if any of you know of any Linux apps that allow you to run (not install) Windows from a USB drive? The reason I ask this is because I want to bypass the 29minute recording time on my Sony A7S camera and to do that you have to install a plugin that is only compatible with Windows or Mac, so I'm just looking for a way to run Windows from a USB drive as a one off. Many thanks [link] [comments] |
Unable to capture a screenshot with CTRL+SHIFT+PRTSC (Linux Mint 20) Posted: 31 Aug 2020 03:28 AM PDT Sometimes when I'm trying to capture screenshot of specific area (something like SHIFT+WIN+S on Windows 10), it shows error box like this, and blocks whole screen from using mouse (it gets "greener") [link] [comments] |

Posted: 31 Aug 2020 10:25 AM PDT Hello, very soon I'm going to buy a laptop having a 128GB SSD and a 1TB HDD with win10 installed on the SSD. I'd like to dual boot it with Parrot OS on the SSD as well while having access to some space of the HDD for mass storage. How would I be able to do that? I already dual booted an old laptop with Ubuntu in the past but it only had 1 hard drive and I didn't really bother with disk partitioning so I don't know the best way to dual boot across 2 hard drives. The half noob and the iTunes horror! Posted: 31 Aug 2020 09:18 AM PDT Good afternoon you awesome people's. Right so as it stands I made the move to Linux 4 years ago now, I still think am pretty much a noob at it. In the mean time my brother and sister have seen how easy and convenient some of the tools are on Linux and made the move also. Bring on 3 months ago when my younger sister in her infinite wisdom had a spur of the moment purchase of a iPod touch. Me screaming internally when she bought it home and neatly throwing it out of the window in the ensuring months. At first, I had a old hard drive laying around I put windows onto, sorted out the iTunes and after it was done the drive went up to the great ruster in the skies. Bring on to a couple of weeks ago where my sister now wants to put more things onto the device. Feels like I'm at the end of my knowledge here. I have tried putting a VM onto my machine and doing it through there but it seemed a hassle with all the hiccups I was having. I have mono and wine installed, managed to get iTunes installed on that compatibly level but every time it opens its just a black screen, so no use there. I have been putting things onto VLC player and uploading to there but that's not cutting it anymore as it seems to be out of sync with the device (103 songs uploaded and 92 showing on the device) Now I'm not sure what to try next. I have had it in my mind to either dual boot her system (win 10 / Ubuntu) but with her being slightly mentally disabled I can see it being more trouble than it's worth. The other thing was trying to find if there's a walk around jailbreaking it then using it as a glorified MP3 player after than. So at long last, my question to you lovely people is, how do I figure out this situation? [link] [comments] |
