Why are folders filled with ogg files so slow? Posted: 29 Aug 2020 06:24 PM PDT I have some folders that each contain about 20 ogg audio files. Every time I open a folder in Windows Explorer, it takes a few seconds for the files to appear. This is really annoying, especially when I have to access multiple folders. This delay doesn't seem to occur with other folders. What's causing this delay? Is there a way to speed things up? [link] [comments]

Trying to remove password on old hard drive Posted: 29 Aug 2020 05:35 PM PDT Hello all, this may be the wrong place to request this but I was wondering if it's possible to remove the password to a Windows account on a hard drive. I have an old laptop that no longer works but it has some highly important documents for a program I use. I also no longer remember the password to said account. I have the hard drive hooked up to my PC but I don't have privilege to view some of the folders. What I'm really looking for is if there is a way to remove the password so I could place this hard drive into a new laptop and just log into it as is. Any pointers or tips? Edit: Both - the hard drive of the laptop and the PC that I'm using run Windows 7 [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Aug 2020 05:30 PM PDT Just seems like we've been using this "stopgap" for a long time, and I don't see much point anymore. In the old days the concern was that you might want to install both a 32 bit and a 64 bit version of the same program so this provided a way for both to co-exist. I don't see a need for it anymore, certainly not in my use cases, so I'm wondering if there's a registry key or something I can change to make everything install to Program Files, and maybe even move the stuff that's already in (x86). acer laptop windows 10 shut down and sleep issue Posted: 29 Aug 2020 05:00 PM PDT my acer e5 571g laptop does not go to sleep mode or shut down. The screen goes dark but with slight background lighting and fan still turning.I have to press power button in order to close it.I am experiencing this issue after I clean installed windows 10 on new ssd. I also am not experiencing this for the first time.I was able to solve this by downgrading my non windows10 compatible update of intel graphics . but this time it wont go away even with power setup changes and reinstall whole drivers. [Help] Wifi keeps having issues Posted: 29 Aug 2020 04:59 PM PDT Hey guys, I'm on the Windows 10 Version 2004 and every time my laptop disconnects from the wifi and starts saying unable to connect to the network. I've tried updating/rolling back the driver but it doesn't seem to work. Microsoft Store nor working. missing xml fire Posted: 29 Aug 2020 03:55 PM PDT Hi All, Last week i had to do a windows update and during the update my pc shut off. this caused my pc to crash and it corrupted a lot of programs/files. atm im not able to use the microsoft store and all it apps like calculator/powershell/skype/video player, it instantly shuts down. at first i tried the MediaCreationTool to hopefully repair my pc but it did not work... after that ive looked into a lot of fixes but non seem to work because im missing a file... i was able to redownload powershell as a standalone program and i've run the following command : Get-AppXPackage *WindowsStore* -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"} This gave me the following error : Add-AppxPackage: Cannot find path 'C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.WindowsStore_12008.1001.1.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe\AppXManifest.xml' because it does not exist. Anyone has any clue if i can redownload this file somwhere? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Aug 2020 01:57 PM PDT Ive noticed something ever since I've had my hands on Windows 10. If there's a new update and, i dont install it, my pc almost becomes unusable. It lags very bad to the point where even starting it up, takes more than 10 minutes to load. Trying to play games is a total nightmare when this happens. Today was the first day that ive had internet in over a year. Of course my pc is going to be out of date. But, as soon as it was hooked back onto an internet connection, it suddenly becomes this sluggish, unresponsive machine. It acts as if I had it for 30 years and is about ready to die out on me. I use to have slow DSL internet from verizon and it was always terribly slow and, made updating my pc a nightmare. Now, i finally have high speed 200 mbps internet. I thought that it would make updating a lot easier. But i was wrong. As soon as I tried to play an online game, my frame rate and fps went straight down the toilet. The game would literally freeze every 3 to 5 seconds. I wanted to play video games s so bad since i haven't played for so long and, and i just didnt have the patients to wait for it to update. Well, I gave in and, let it update for 12 hours. As soon as everything is done, my laptop instantly goes back to normal and, I was able to play video games again without any drops in frame rate or fps. Is this situation a common occourance or is my laptop just out of the ordinary? [link] [comments]

Urgent. Assistance/Ideas required. Posted: 29 Aug 2020 09:32 AM PDT Me and my friend, who both had windows laptops with windows 10 installed, lost our laptops. They were stolen from us. After going on the Microsoft account and tracking our devices, we found that our battery was lesser than what it was on the day it was stolen and the location of both our laptops was in close proximity. However, each time we click the refresh button, the location changes and becomes something new (each new location isn't that far from the previous one) My question is as follows: Can me and my friend do something other than this to track our laptop? We have already filed a police complaint but that isn't that helpful in getting them back. Also, do you guys think that it is possible to remotely clean our laptop? The already existing "lock my laptop" ain't working and is shit. Me and my friend had sensitive information on our laptops and we really wanna wipe it off clean if we can't find our laptops. P.S : We are two students in Canada. [link] [comments]
