Complete reset of windows taking 4 hours, is continuing to load Posted: 28 Jun 2020 08:05 PM PDT My friend recently gave me his PC, as he built a new one. He told me to reset it completely. I did so and the loading window for it has taken 4 hours so far and is continuing. Is this normal? [link] [comments]
Work + Play computer, need seperate installs and no access to one another Posted: 28 Jun 2020 06:55 PM PDT Hi, I will be building a PC for work. On the side I may game on it with friends. I'm going to have two 500gb 970 Evo's, and I want to know if its possible to have a separate install for each SSD and also how to completely lock one out from the other. The locking out part is important just because I am paranoid about security and my company will have monitoring software on the work SSD. Should I encrypt the play SSD to keep it unreadable from the work SSD? [link] [comments]

Posted: 28 Jun 2020 08:50 PM PDT Recently I've noticed my pc taking longer to startup, and I'm trying to understand why. (apologies if I'm asking this in the wrong community). I've noticed that ever since my PC began having a slower startup, there are also 3 windows that briefly flash and then close. I've caught 2 of them, and its P508PowerAgent, and the other has the file path of C:WINDOWS\system32\cscript.exe. The 3rd is too fast, I can't even pin it to find out. I'm concerned about it being malware, and just interfering with my PC in general. Any ideas as to why these things are running on startup?? [link] [comments]

Posted: 28 Jun 2020 05:37 PM PDT Since the newest update I have new HDR issues. Borderlands 3 as an example completely weirds out (left half screen is squeeezed and purple, right half screen is blue) and I have to toggle HDR on/off to get it working. Is there a easy way to quickly toggle HDR on/off? The scripts I've found online are not working right and disable windows scaling which is not what I'm looking for. [link] [comments]
Screen on laptop glitching but works with external monitor Posted: 28 Jun 2020 05:19 PM PDT Have a new Dell p70f and it has a serious screen problem where the screen will double and quickly glitch. I have tried everything I could find including reinstalling drivers and making sure all the display settings were properly set. I recently tried plugging it into an external monitor with an HDMI cable company and the external monitor worked fine even while the screen was glitching. I was hoping someone might have suggestions for what the problem could be and what the implications of the external monitor working are. Please let me know if anymore info is needed. Thanks in advance [link] [comments]
How do I strip my W10 license to use for W8.1? Posted: 28 Jun 2020 05:14 PM PDT My PC shipped with W8.1 and I would like to downgrade from W10. How would I do this? Also there's an error with the boot and I can't get to any of my system info and such. Thanks! [link] [comments]

Posted: 28 Jun 2020 04:39 PM PDT I have a dell laptop I am going to give to a friend but want to wipe it first. It started out as a windows 7 laptop but was upgraded to 8.1. Is there way to wipe it and reformat to stay on windows 8.1? I have no idea where the windows 7 or 8.1 discs would be, but I assume they are online. Does it have to be a reformat disc for that laptop? Just have not done anything on 8.1/7 for a long time. [link] [comments]
Crackling/static sound after update. How to fix? Posted: 28 Jun 2020 04:00 PM PDT I have a Dell XPS 13 9365 and recently updated after several notifications suggesting I do so. Naturally, like a Windows update usually does, this messed up my sound. It is this occasional crackle/buzzing sound that happens across several applications. There's also a very weird echo effect. I've tried updating the Realtek drivers but the system tells me I'm up to date. I've installed old drivers from the Dell website and the problem still persisted. I uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled and nothing has changed. This issue happens with different earphones and speakers I've tried. I also used those earphones and speakers with different devices and they worked just fine. Honestly not sure what to do at this point. Pouring through tutorials and forum posts lead me right back to where I started. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. [link] [comments]

(Help) I want to upgrade my laptop and migrate the license key. Posted: 28 Jun 2020 04:57 AM PDT I don't know if this is the best subreddit for this post, but I have a 3-year old laptop with a slow HDD with an original version of Windows 10 preinstalled on it. I would like to change it to an SSD and somehow reinstall windows with the license key from my old HDD. Is this possible? If yes, how? It would be even better if I could keep my files. Error 0xc000021a on Windows 10 Posted: 28 Jun 2020 04:54 AM PDT Hello everyone, My notebook with Windows 10 is showing a blue screen with the error 0xc000021a every time I try to access the Windows. I haven't be able to use my notebook for almost two months because of this error. I already tried to use a bootable media, choose 'Repair your computer' and then 'Startup Repair' on 'Advanced options', but it returns a SrtTrail.txt error. I also run a LOT of commands that I found on the internet in the Command Prompt to try to fix this error - the ones shown in this video for example -, but none worked. One of the only things I haven't tried is to reinstall or reset the Windows, that's because If I reinstall or reset Windows, even keeping the files, I would lose all my apps and settings. Does anyone can help me? How do I can fix this error and get back to use my computer normally? Thank you P.S.: sorry for any mistakes in my text, English isn't my first language. Any way to stop new windows moving towards bottom right? Posted: 28 Jun 2020 10:50 AM PDT I'm sure we all know that if you open multiple explorer windows, they cascade towards the bottom right. My issue is that this behaviour for new windows is implemented whether there are others behind it or not, and it's not exclusive to explorer either. This is getting ridiculously annoying as eventually the window jumps back to the top left. I'd much rather windows just stay where they last were. There is absolutely no need for them to move every single time. Checked Microsoft forums, as usual they're full of the generic "run this command to fix absolutely nothing" responses. Any tips? Registry key perhaps? [link] [comments]
How to create a bootable usb for uefi system when the iso is bigger than 4GB? Posted: 28 Jun 2020 10:00 AM PDT I have heard that UEFI can't boot from NTFS, only FAT32. But the windows image I have to extract is bigger than 4GB. What do I do now? [link] [comments]

Posted: 28 Jun 2020 08:54 AM PDT It says I am using 93% of my RAM when I am just using google chrome. I have 16 gb so it says 14.3 gb is in use. I have webroot antivirus and I scanned so I don't have a virus. In task manager the highest memory usage thing I have is google chrome only at like 600 mb. What the heck is going on? Is There Any Good but Free Alternative to IDM (Internet Download Manager)? Posted: 28 Jun 2020 08:47 AM PDT I am using IDM for such a long time. But I don't want to use it anymore. The reason is it often can't instantiate download and Firefox take control over it. I really enjoy when IDM can start downloading instead of Firefox. But as it often fails I am now looking for an alternative. Is there any good alternative available? Anyone tried anything like this? Any recommendation will be highly appreciated... Can't use microphone on discord/ anywhere at all Posted: 28 Jun 2020 08:39 AM PDT I'm using Realtek Audio HD Manager if that makes any difference. Another problem is that it thinks my earbud is my microphone, and my microphone doesn't do anything. I was wondering if the setting in the picture had anything to do with it. Any help is appreciated. HELP! I accidentally overrided all Path Variables Posted: 28 Jun 2020 07:27 AM PDT While trying to add a new value to the existing Path environmental variable, i created a new variable titled "Path" and overrided all existing values. I've since replaved the win 10 defaults provided by this link, but none of the other Path values are there from any other program on my PC. Is there anyway to rectify this, or am I screwed???
