OnePlus Android update frequency Posted: 25 Jun 2020 05:39 PM PDT I've been living in the Pixel world for the last few years. My pixel 2 was good, but my 3 has been a steaming pile of dog shit and Google isn't willing to help. I'm using visible wireless so my options are somewhat limited. Basically Samsung s20, pixel 3/3a, or OnePlus 7t/7pro. My favorite part of the pixel is the frequent Android update. How does OnePlus stack up? Are you at least on Android 10 and getting security patches? [link] [comments]
We had a good run, old friend. Posted: 25 Jun 2020 12:35 AM PDT Not a fancy 8 boy, but a 7 Pro is on it's way to relieve you of your daily driver duties after ~3 years of flagship killing 5T functionality. You've been consistent and reliable like no other iThis or Sthat could ever have dreamed of being. I never feel like I'm at a disadvantage with you in my pocket, even after several years. But all good things must come to an end. We've been through so much together, even if I sometimes switched ROMs and kernels like a teenage girl deciding what to wear for picture day in high school. Even if you've been re-formatted more times than a PhD's dissertation before the final draft. You've always been ready to go, you taught me what a smartphone could and should be capable of, for a price less than what I paid for the underwhelmingly midrange HTC that you replaced. Now as our family grows to include another member from the OP family tree, I want you to know that you were, and will always be my first. You may not be there in my pocket every day, waiting to shitpost spicy memes, or take the same picture with the newest Gcam mod several dozen times to determine the optimal configuration, only to crash and clear storage when I chose a parameter you just didn't like. But you will always be in my heart. I will always make sure you have the freshest version of custom Android, the crispiest kernel, and the dankest canary build of Magisk, even if your function is that of a glorified desk ornament. This goes out to you my One(+), and only, 5T friend. ....sorry guys and girls, it's an emotional moment... [link] [comments]
Losing my mind with the OnePlus 8 Pro Posted: 25 Jun 2020 02:16 PM PDT This is only my second OnePlus phone (the first being the original OnePlus One) and I think I might be losing my mind. My Protonmail app will not show notifications of any kind no matter what settings I use for notifications. I've cleared the cache and app data and reset app preferences and it's made no difference. My Play Store will not update any apps at all no matter what I do. I've cleared the cache and data of the Play Store, Google app as well as Google Play Services and still nothing. I've tried on WiFi and data, I've turned off the dual channel network acceleration feature as I thought that might be causing the problem but still nothing.... I even saw someone on the OnePlus forum suggesting to toggle airplane mode but had no effect either. I'm pretty sure I've tried everything possible other than a factory reset. [link] [comments]
Official Auto Switch resolution logic? Posted: 25 Jun 2020 06:36 PM PDT Has there been any official information (actually, unofficial would be ok too) about how the Oxygen OS switches between resolutions? I just got the 8 Pro and I notice a big difference between FHD and QHD and am very curious how Auto Switch works. The manual says nothing. [link] [comments]

Can't get consistent notifications on new OnePlus 8 pro Posted: 25 Jun 2020 06:59 PM PDT Just upgraded from P2XL - I can't get notifications to come through consistently for almost any app and I'm so frustrated. AFAIK, everything is set up right because I will get them for a while, but then they stop. In some cases they are very delayed. Line app stopped sending notifications last night around 9, just realized I missed tons of messages. Ebay sends notifications 15 minutes before watched auctions end. Sometimes I get them, but most of the time it comes through after item ended. Email app is sporadic. I set up aodnotify and it is also sporadic. Messaging app (pulse) seems to be the only consistent notification that works. Anyone have an idea, because I'm about to return it if this is just how it is. [link] [comments]
Loading Problems with the OnePlus 8 Posted: 25 Jun 2020 05:52 PM PDT I just bought and activated the OnePlus 8 Tuesday of this week. The first day with it i noticed somethings like Vudu or youtube would take longer to load or would buffer randomly i thought it just needed updates and made sure all updates were applied to the newest version. Then today i've had it take so long to load amazon or videos that i can find my previous phone, a pixel 3, and have those loaded and playing before it finishes. Is there any setting that could be causing this? Taking longer to load things off the internet than my previous phone is getting old real fast and I'm already tempted to return it and get a different phone. I've already changed my routers MAC filtering, battery optimization and split my router to have 2.4 gbhz and 5 gbhz as different networks and it's still taking longer to load than my previous phone. Xiaomi joins OnePlus with the Green Tint issues Posted: 25 Jun 2020 09:53 AM PDT Hey guys, I have an OnePlus 8 Pro with the green tint issues, and now I have the Mi Note 10 Lite with similar problems. You can take a look: https://gfycat.com/completefemaleamurratsnake Looks like Green Tint issues in AMOLED panels is gonna be a recurrent problem in all products :/ [link] [comments]
Do I need to disassemble my whole phone to replace the front glass on my OnePlus 6? Posted: 25 Jun 2020 06:49 PM PDT My front glass of my OnePlus 6 is a bit scratched up so I want to replace it. I have access to tools, like heatgun, pry tool etc. All the replacement guides seem to be full screen replacements which involve taking apart a lot of things which I'm only semi comfortable doing. I've repaired iPhone screens and some androids back in the day but that was way long ago so I'm not as confident with this sort of thing as I used to be. I'll be replacing the back cover as well, which seems to be a very simple matter of just using the heatgun, then swapping. I was hoping replacing the front glass would be as simple too, can someone verify if I can get away with replacing the front glass the same way? [link] [comments]

Home screen rotation on stock one+ launcher? Posted: 25 Jun 2020 03:49 PM PDT Is there a way to enable this that I'm somehow missing? I had it on my pixel 2xl and there's all kinds of useful instances for using landscape mode, particularly with a big display. I don't want to use Nova launcher etc and the apps I have looked at on Google play all have poor reviews or the apps are out dated and not updated in years [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Jun 2020 06:06 PM PDT Potentially upgrading from a Galaxy S8 and I have a few questions. I'm looking at the renewed "T-Mobile" GSM unlocked on Amazon for $488. Since it's unlocked it will work with a Sprint SIM right? T-Mobile is just the original carrier of the phone? Or do I just buy direct from OnePlus for $549? The issue I see there is that their carrier compatibility doesn't list Sprint. However T-Mobile bought Sprint recently but I don't think that means T-Mobile phones are compatible with Sprint SIMs, does it? One of the main reasons I'm upgrading is because call recording apps on Galaxy phones no longer work with bluetooth headpieces with the Pie update (doesn't record on other end). Can anyone confirm this does still work with OnePlus and will always work? Particularly the 7 Pro with the latest Android update. From what I've read the OnePlus is the way to go outside of buying an older phone still on Android 8. Looking for a good case with a card slot. However it doesn't have to be a traditional leather wallet, just needs a card slot. Looking more for the slim factor+protection rather than the aesthetic. Last, how hard should I expect the transfer to be? I currently use CallApp for calls/contacts, Textra for text, YouMail for voicemail so I suppose I can just restore backups for those. Photos will be as easy downloading onto my pc and copying them over. Google apps (Chrome, Gmail, Maps) are all backed up on Google cloud. I guess I answered my own question. Thanks in advance. Switched from a Pixel 2XL to a OnePlus 8 Pro- My experience after a week Posted: 25 Jun 2020 06:24 AM PDT Cross-posting this from /r/googlepixel ------ I came from a pixel 2 XL and I was looking forward is a pixel 4 XL back in November. Needless to say, I was pretty disappointed with what I saw. I really love the Pixel line and hope to come back to it sometime in the future. However, it was time for me to try something different. I got my OnePlus 8 pro a week ago from Amazon and fell in love with it the moment I turned the screen on. Coming from the screen of the Pixel 2 XL, I was blown away at the quality of the image. It was a revelation to be able to use my phone in sunlight and still be able to see something. The colors are amazing, the blacks are great without any smearing at low light like I had with the Pixel 2 XL. I also don't mind the hole punch at all. In fact, I decided to put the battery meter around the hole punch. The only thing about the screen that I'm not sure about is that curved edges. I do think it makes the phone look amazing but on a few apps, text wraps around the curves slightly. I have not had any green tint live I've been seeing like from people on Reddit. In terms of the camera, I thought this is where I would be making the biggest sacrifice by switching to the OnePlus 8 pro. I am happy to say that the camera on this is much better than what I had on the Pixel 2 XL and I feel it is on par with my wife's iPhone 11 Pro. I still have a lot more testing to do with the camera, but from using it for a week I feel like this camera really is top-notch. I've also downloaded the gcam apk so I'm looking forward to testing that as well. In regard to the video: I saw a couple of reviews where people were having studdering issues when recording at 4k 60, but I have not experienced that. Maybe it was fixed in a recent update. The audio on the videos is really fantastic and clear. The video is a MAJOR upgrade from my Pixel. Another big thing I was concerned about by switching to OnePlus is the operating system. I wasn't sure how is it going to be to go from the Pixel launcher to oxygen OS. Needless to say, I'm really happy with oxygen OS. There are so many cool little features and tweaks packed into the settings while still looking and acting like stock Android. One annoying thing that I hope they fix in the future is a scheduled dark mode. It's kind of annoying that I need to go deep into the settings to change the tone. I also really wish that I was able to change the spacing of the grid on the home menu. Right now it just feels like it's spaced too far apart. So far all the major software features that I used on the 2XL are here on the OP8 with bonus Oxygen OS features. As of right now, I do miss having the rear fingerprint sensor. I find myself swiping down on the back of the phone to bring up the quick settings and notifications a lot. The in-screen fingerprint sensor is really cool but has a few minor issues. At night, when the screen is really dark the fingerprint sensor area becomes as bright as the sun. I get that the phone needs really bright light to read your fingerprint, but I wish there was another way. It also has not been as reliable or as fast as the sensor in the 2XL. I am always getting errors that it can't read my print. I've mostly been using the face unlock which I know it's not as secure but it's lightning-fast on the OnePlus. I'm at the home screen as soon as I turn it on. The battery on this has been an absolute champ. I have have been able to use it all day with regular use at 1400p/120hz without having to charge it. I'm sure it being a brand new phone has a lot to do with that but it's still impressive to me. Keep in mind that I don't play a lot of mobile games but I do watch a lot of videos. Having this phone on an angled wireless charging stand is just so good. The ambient mode is a game-changer for me. I am really not sure why the Pixel line does not have this ambient mode feature, but I'm happy that this phone does. Since the OP8 does not have an always-on display at the point in time, this is the only way I can get information to stay on my screen. I hope they implement the always-on display soon. I hope this helped some of you that are interested in switching to an OnePlus phone from a Pixel line. I don't mind answering some questions if anyone has them! [link] [comments]
Video recording on the OnePlus 6 is not smooth / stutters Posted: 25 Jun 2020 09:12 AM PDT So I just bought a used OnePlus 6 the other day to give my Pocophone F1 to my dad thinking the OnePlus was gonna be better overall.. and that's actually the case, it feels faster, looks better, feels better but the video recording.. oh man, as soon as I opened the camera and went to video I saw the viewfinder stuttering, like it was skipping or dropping frames, I mean, I can understand why the frame rate is not a constant 60fps all the time but this is actually unusable for me, even the 30 fps modes stutter (just less noticeable), this is pretty sad and dissapointing, how does less mature bloated software like MIUI have better video recording capabilities (and options too, you have H265, bitrate control, more resolutions and other stuff in the Pocophone F1 but not here.. lol) than a close to stock Android that costs more.. The worst thing is that I've seen posts in the OnePlus forums and other places like here talking about the same issue but from 2018, you can find some videos on Youtube where you can clearly see the issue... how is this yet not fixed? Posted: 25 Jun 2020 08:59 PM PDT My OnePlus 7 is now one year old. I have never had any problems with it at all. Yesterday when I went to sleep my phone had a battery of 16%. Like everyday WiFi and mobile data was on. The only differences from previous days were, I had NFC on and I had a new live wallpaper. But both of them shouldn't matter since screen will be off right? So anyway, after 8 hours when I woke up, my phone was dead. Usually everyday my charge will be down by just 2 or 3%. This is the first time it is happening. Also when I looked at my battery status, screen active use was shown as almost 13 hours! But I actually used it for only 6 hours around. Any idea what is going on? [link] [comments]
Why is Google Maps so slow on my OnePlus 3? Posted: 25 Jun 2020 07:24 AM PDT Hey folks, my OnePlus 3 has been going great since I bought it launch day. I have replaced the battery and camera module after losing the ability to focus. Almost all of my apps run great except for Google Maps which is stupid slow. Which is odd. Does anyone have a solution to this? [link] [comments]
System Update Installation Failed (Hydrogen to Oxygen) Posted: 25 Jun 2020 10:15 AM PDT Hello, my OnePlus 7 Pro is currently running Hydrogen OS 10.0.5.GM21 and I'm trying to change it to Oxygen OS. I downloaded the latest version of Oxygen OS from the official OnePlus website and tried to install it via local upgrade but it always show ''System Update Installation Failed''. I also tried to install the latest Oxygen OS Beta. No luck either. I did some research on Google and found that some folks says the Oxygen OS version I want to install must be a much newer version than the Hydrogen OS that my phone is currently running. So I didn't upgrade my Hydrogen OS version (10.0.5.GM21) although Hydrogen OS 10.0.6.GM21 is currently available. Since then, I waited for newer version of Oxygen OS and tried to install every version they released. Just today, I tried to install the latest version of Oxygen OS ( 10.3.3.GM21AA ) June 14, 2020 and the latest beta version of Oxygen OS (Open Beta 15) June 24, 2020. As always, it shows ''System Update Installation Failed'' when I try to install them via Local Upgrade. Am I doing something wrong? Or it's just that I still have to wait for newer Oxygen OS? Any help is appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Why is the WiFi icon not correct in quick settings? Posted: 25 Jun 2020 07:36 PM PDT Image link here. OxygenOS 10.0.2 on OnePlus 7 Pro. I must note that when turning WiFi off and on, the icon briefly shows correctly but then turns back to the vertical line when it finds the network. [link] [comments]
How is the Microphone Quality on the OnePlus 8? Posted: 25 Jun 2020 07:28 PM PDT Thinking about getting on with T-Mobiles 50% off add a line deal, but one requirement is how well is the microphone quality when recording videos? One main buy for me is 4K60 video quality and audio recording quality of it. Was mainly wanting to get one to replace my S20, never owned a OnePlus device but been wanting to try one for awhile now. Also have a iPhone 11 Pro Max, the video quality is amazing, but the built in mic is awful compared to the S20. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Jun 2020 02:09 PM PDT Hey guys, My friend broke her 7 Pro's screen and needs to get photos off of her phone before sending it to the manufacturer. Unfortunately, she hasn't configured the phone to allow access to the files via USB yet. I can access the phone via the PIN but then the screen shuts down after. Touch still works after unlock and so does a usb keyboard input. Could someone please be kind enough to be our blind guide to enable this in settings? Thanks so much in advance. Is there a way to change call gestures? Posted: 25 Jun 2020 11:26 AM PDT On my old OnePlus 7 Pro I swiped up to pick up phone calls and swiped down to hang up. Those gestures are ingrained in my mind. On my new OnePlus 8 Pro the gestures are swipe up to hang up and swipe down to pick up. I keep accidentally hanging up on people because I'm used to swiping up. Is there a way to change the gestures back to being able to swipe up to pick up and swipe down to hang up?
