Anyways. We are both looking for Gaming Laptops and Gaming PC's for the house because we travel a lot. I don't know much about PC's and stuff, but I have heard a lot of over heating issues and stuff like that for laptops. The price range for our laptops are around $1,000-$1,500 each. We would also love it if someone could help point us in the right direction to purchasing a few extra monitors? Someone told us to go with VA monitors but my brother said go with ISP monitors? Anyways I'd love you guys thoughts on what laptop and monitors we could go with because the extra monitors just looks so sexy! Next will be matching PC's! [link] [comments] |
Is anything better value than the Lenovo Ideapad 5 15” AMD laptop for under £1000? Posted: 29 Jun 2020 02:33 AM PDT Hey guys Recently posted looking for a laptop that will operate smoothly for my work (Office mainly) but also be able to run League of Legends on medium to low settings very smoothly. The best value for money i think i've been recommended so far is the Lenovo Ideapad 5 15" AMD for around £675. HOWEVER, it's currently out of stock, and if i up my budget to £1000, is there anything i could get that is BETTER VALUE within that budget? Perhaps something with a dedicated graphics card? Thanks for any help! [link] [comments] |
Just discovered this thing called Portable Computer !? Posted: 28 Jun 2020 08:14 PM PDT I know this sub was supposed to be about laptops, but I do not know where else to post this. Please tell me if you do. I was planning to buy both a top PC and a top laptop in the future, each for about $ 10k. They would be employed for creating CGI, high end video editing in 4k and VR, data analysis and other taxing applications. Was looking for a laptop that would support 3 or more monitors and, jut by chance, stumbled upon this thing called portable computer. Never even heard about it before, did you? I suppose that most laptops are done under the assumption that the costumer wants to use it on battery and has a low tolerance for additional weight. Neither of those considerations is relevant for me. What I am looking for is:
If this works out, I could buy a single portable computer instead of a PC and a laptop. If I went on to actually buy a standard laptop, however, I could settle for a ruggedized high end laptop with support for three or more monitors, but I have not come by any. Predator 21 X has a large screen, but it would still require additional monitors and those would be cumbersome to set up. I would mostly use it within the confines of tight university desks, so things like portable monitors would not be an option. In terms of portable computers, here are the contestants so far: Third place: https://www.acmeportable.com/products/megapac-l3 ; The monitors here are the catcher, but it is not ruggedized. Second place: https://www.ruggedscience.com/military-computers/portable-tactical-computers/cerberus-portable-tactical-computer ; This one`s case is particularly alluring. The monitors also appear to have a higher capacity for inclining upwards, which is desirable on lower desks. This is the MVP so far: https://www.acmeportable.com/products/milpac-iii ; It appears to have limited monitor space at first, but reading further: "add-on building block display modules are also available in a separate shipping case to expand the displays to a 9-display 3 x 3 configuration, or 5760 x 3240 scene space. " This is what I am looking for. Honorable mention: https://www.acmeportable.com/products/notepac-iii-pro ; This one is marketed as an actual notebook, and not a portable computer. Would be great as a laptop, but falls short on specs compared to the other three. I would still have to buy a PC if I went with this one. I am just about to ask them for quotes. The fact that prices are not even listed suggests that these things have off the chart costs. I wound`t be surprised on at least a 2x+ price tag relative to similar ordinary PC builds, but considering I would now only have to buy 1 piece of equipment instead of 2, it could still be well worth it. I would pay even 4x, considering this is military grade hardware designed to be reliable in extreme situations and withstand assault, especially after witnessing my fair share of the almost disposable hardware sold as finished products that we have nowadays. This particular problem just prompted me to stay away from laptops that I would otherwise consider buying: https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/3n2uki/rugged_notebook_for_extravagant_prices/ . Question is: I had to scavenge the internet for different models and information. It appears to be a rare type of machine for ordinary consumers to be buying and, as such, it is difficult to come by any comprehensive guide. Any clue here would already help. My main concerns are:

What's the hype about the NEW RYZEN chips. Posted: 28 Jun 2020 09:05 PM PDT Hello everyone. I hope you all are doing well and are safe. I am not fermiliar with Ryzen processor and need info about how much reliable and powerful they are. Currently I am using a 3 year old Dell Inspiron 15 2in1 which is now on its final legs. I was recently looking at the new Asus TUF A15 and A17 laptops and spec wise they look amazing. However specs aren't the only thing. So I would like your help to guide me to whether to get a good Ryzen based gaming laptop which isn't too expensive, has great battery life, display should be usable in outdoor situations, should be good for editing photos and videos on it and solid build and speaking quality. Also are Intel 10th GEN H series CPU worth it in 2020 especially when everyone are saying that Ryzen processor are much better. Thank you everyone for your help. [UK] [£1000] Laptop for MMO gaming, low heat and fan noise. Posted: 29 Jun 2020 04:12 AM PDT Currently have an Asus GL552VW which I've had for many years now and I'm ready for an upgrade. The screen has always been bad on it and the fna noise goes crazy with the heat when playing anything. I've had a recommendation of the MSI GF65 for around £999 which seems nice, but not sure on how hot it can get when playing mmos like wow. Any recommendations on something for this style of gaming? Thanks. [link] [comments] |

Can the Surface Pro 7 / X be a full-on substitute for a laptop for a college student? Posted: 28 Jun 2020 08:17 PM PDT Hey guys, I'm a rising college freshman. I've used a MacBook for the last four years and I've enjoyed the experience. However, my department at the college states that there is a preference of Windows over Mac OS. The appeal I see in the Surface Pro is the note-taking. I am leaning towards the 7 over the X purely due to its superior internal performance. Mainly, I'm looking to get reliable performance over the next several years on the level of a premium laptop. Any insight on the following few questions would be appreciated. Is the note-taking on Surface Pro really something that's game-changing for a college student? Does the 7 / X serve as an appropriate substitute for a premium laptop? Is there anything special about the Surface Laptop 3 that's more appealing as opposed to another premium Windows laptop? [link] [comments] |
Looking for a laptop under $900 for college use Posted: 29 Jun 2020 03:45 AM PDT
Preferably under PHP 45,000 but willing to go up to PHP 55,000. Will be purchasing in the Philippines.
No, sorry
Performance, battery, build quality, then form factor. I don't want a 2-in-1.
I'd say fairly important, as I do being my laptop everywhere I go, along with around three textbooks. A thin laptop would be ideal, though the lightness is more important to me.
Nothing bigger than 15 inches and smaller than 11.
I occasionally use Adobe programs to edit pictures and videos. It's not a part of my every day life, though being able to run such programs would be great. My school does require us to be able to use LoggerPro and Zoom.
N/A
I don't want a keyboard that is too cramped. No touch screens. As for the rest, I don't really mind.
I'm currently about to finish my senior year in high school, and I'm planning to use this laptop for college. Some flexibility in terms of RAM and storage upgrade in the future would be great. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Jun 2020 03:43 PM PDT It is going to be eventful month in this july. Many OEMs release their recurring and newly introducing mid range gaming laptops to the US market in July. By end of july i think one of them would crowned as master of mid range laptops in 2020. What are your predictions? Currently on radar
I would say it will be finally comes to battle between Omen 15 and Helios 300 for cooling build quality and screen and end of july one of these guys would be sold out. [link] [comments] |
Computer Science major looking for a laptop for both college and gaming. Posted: 29 Jun 2020 03:22 AM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: Around 120,000 pkr (Pakistani Rupees). Are you open to refurbs/used? Yes. How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Performance, Battery Life, Build Quality, Form Factor How important is weight and thinness to you? Doesn't matter as long as it is not crazy thick/heavy and is comfortable to carry around in college. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Will start studying Computer Science this year so not sure if I'll be needing any specific software for that but I am hoping to game on it in my free time or between college classes. Moderate gaming, nothing hardcore. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Titles from around 2013-2019 like witcher 3, sekiro, COD, Tomb Raider, Rainbow Six Siege etc. I understand in my budget I won't be able to run crazy demanding or any upcoming future games and I'm fine with it. I want a smooth playing experience be it on High Settings or Medium Settings. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? RGB lighting and dedicated click buttons on touchpad are a plus but not something that may make or break a laptop for me. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I will be starting college this year and am looking for a laptop that I can take to college and also use for some moderate gaming between the classes or in free time. The two laptops that are fitting my budget right now are Lenovo Legion y530 and Dell Inspiron 7577 (both new and i5 with 4gb GTX 1050). Open to any other suggestions. Thanks. [link] [comments] |

Work From Home Laptop - Light and Inexpensive Posted: 28 Jun 2020 06:22 PM PDT Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: $400 - $500 USD Are you open to refurbs/used? Prefer new, okay with refurb How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Portability is key, ultrabook form factor would be great, but I know that's a real stretch at my budget. Form factor, performance, battery life How important is weight and thinness to you? See above, needs to be light weight - lighter is better! (under 4lb) Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 13-15" Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Will be running Photoshop (but I have a desktop with plenty of RAM and a discrete GPU for heavy Photoshop work), Office, and Chrome. Usually at the same time If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? This isn't super important, I have a good desktop for gaming, so nothing more intensive than casual games. *Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? A 1080p screen is a requirement with me using Photoshop. Also has to be a Windows machine so it plays nicely with my company's IT policy. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Wish I didn't need to get a WFH laptop and be so picky about it, but this is my new reality. Formerly used a Lenovo Yoga 720 for all purpose work + gaming, but it was both too heavy to be truly portable and not quite powerful enough for serious gaming. Appreciate your help! New laptop for college student Posted: 28 Jun 2020 09:36 AM PDT Laptop for college student (engineering major)
At most $1500-1750 range (US currency)
As long as it maintains quality
Looking for a really good build quality, something preferably with a touchscreen for usable
Doesn't matter much as long as it is relatively portable and easy to carry around
Not any video editing. I do like to game from time to time but I am not hardcore into it
I generally play COD and Borderlands series games. I want them to run well and clean but Im unsure exactly what specs that would take
A good keyboard and touchpad, Im very fond of the RGB style (ones with the changeable colors) I also like touch-screen capabilities to make doing daily work easier. The idea of a fingerprint reader or face ID sounds like pretty cool features but Im not specifically looking for it
Will mainly be using it for day-to-day tasks and schooling with some gaming here and there. I am looking for something which runs really smoothly and clean with a good build quality. Something which is just overall really good and have features which help with average gaming. (I don't really know what I'm talking about so apologies for confusion) I have considered Apple Macbooks but I am not really a big fan of the Apple interface and system. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated [link] [comments] |
Asus Rog Strix G 9th gen v/s Asus F571 8th gen Posted: 29 Jun 2020 02:44 AM PDT Please help me select one of them. Both of them have almost similar specifications. ROG Strix has i5 9300h processer, Asus F571 has i5 8300h processor. Both laptops are equipped with 1650 Nvidia GPU along with 8gigs of RAM & 512 SSD with an empty slot for HDD. ROG Strix has amazing thermal cooling whereas Asus F571 has dual cooling fans with 2 heat pipes which has an average cooling system (for low to medium graphics) ROG Strix has fan & performance control where Asus F571 lacks that. ROG Strix has RGB Keyboard and Aura settings where Asus F571 has White backlit keyboard & FP Reader. ROG Strix costs around 66k INR or $873 USD and Asus F571 costs around 50k INR or $662 USD. I am looking for a laptop which could last for 4-5 years with future upgradation. I am not keen on spending additional 15k INR or $200 USD just for RGB Keyboard and Aura settings. Help me choose one of them for casual gaming, casual content creation and entertainment. Along with a mindset that the technology I will be buying now will last for another 4-5 years. 2015 Macbook Pro vs 2020 Windows Laptops in the $1200 range Posted: 28 Jun 2020 06:00 PM PDT Hi! I'm looking for a gaming/editing laptop and I've done a lot of reserch for laptops in the $1200 range. The Asus G14, the A15, Predator 300 Helios, dell g5. I have a good grasp on how all of these compare to each other but I also have found a deal on a renewed 2015 Macbook 13.3" with 16gb ram and 1TB SSD. I have zero clue how this would compare with the above new windows laptops. Is it not worth the price? Here's the link: [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jun 2020 02:36 AM PDT I'm completely new to laptops and this will be my first one, though I have good experience with PCs. LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
I need a laptop under 700€ but since I live in Europe (Greece, to be precise) so far I've seen that the prices are maybe a bit higher than other countries so I would prefer something around 600€ probably.
I'm only interested in new laptops not used.
Build quality and performance are the most important for me, I do not care at all about battery life since I'll probably have it plugged most of the time.
Not much, I would appreciate it if it was relatively thin since I consider that more "pretty" in my eyes but definetly not a deal breaker.
Don't have a preference, anything over 13-14 inches would do the job.
Mostly light photo editing (PS,Il) and maybe even minimal to zero video editing. Main applications would be Word and Excel. No gaming
A decent keyboard would be good but build quality I think would be most important.
I would consider an SSD necessary though even 128gb could do the job since I don't have a problem with adding an external drive. I would also appreciate some knowledge about brands of laptops and processors since, unlike PCs, I have no idea how the competition between Intel/AMD is here and how much better is an i5, for example, compared to an i3. Question about the processor in the new Dell G5 SE Posted: 29 Jun 2020 02:30 AM PDT I've decided to buy the new Dell G5 SE and I'm excited about the AMD smartshift technology. But I'm trying to figure out if I should pay an extra hundred for the better processor (4600H vs 4800H) if stronger processors take better advantage of smart shift. Does anyone know if it's worth the extra hundred? [link] [comments] |
