Asus ROG won't stsrt after replacing thermal compound and ssd Posted: 30 Jun 2020 01:48 PM PDT Hello Everyone I own an Asus ROG STRIX GL553VE-FY022 with i7700 HQ and 1050Ti 4gb gpu. So..last night i open up my laptop to install a new bought nvme m.2 pci-e ssd and re-apply the thermal compound.. (which i ve done before..) then i started the laptop while holding down the nvme ssd in its slot.. (because i did not have a ssd screw 2x3 mm or whatever the size it is, and i just wanted to see if its get detected..) everything good.. windows booted up.. i went to my computer to see if the ssd showed up. Then i restarted the laptop and went into the bios (because ssd was not detected in my computer) and i was jumping of.joy because the ssd finally showed up in bios !! Then i said to myself.. now its time to shut it down (I holded the power button for some seconds.. kind of a forced shutdown..) and put the back cover in its place using the screws This is where the trouble began. I tried to turn it on but the only thing that lighted up... were the rgb keyboard and led indicators (power and capital letter) but for only a fraction of a second.. (like 1 second).. then everything shut down and went back.. showing only the charging icon. I tried.to.open it up again.. and check if i did miss something or if i forgot to plug any cable.. i tried reconnecting every connector on the motherboard and try start it without the battery connector.(because its a built-in battery) but no result.. then i went ahead and pressed some random keys and try re-seatting the ram sticks I pressed power button again.. and surprise...laptop keyboard lighted up.. (stood lit) also the led indicators were on except hdd activity, airplane mode and another one which i cant recall right now... Basically now the laptop turns on...(power is stable), usbs are giving power.. but i get black screen ( not even lighted on).. no.fans spinning and no beep boot noise.. i ran out of ideeas but then i found a comapny from Germany called electronicloop.de.. it looks like these guys fix broken mobos (even spilled liquid ones) for a fixed price.. and if they can't fix it...you only pay 6 euro for a return fee -things i've tried.so.far : - reseatting the ram stick.. - tried to boot without the ram stick... battery.. hdd and dvdrom -.unplugged cmos battery and waited for 20 minutes -also tried discharging the power from.the motherboard.. -connect to the tv for an external monitor...laptop makes no beep.. and the only that is.heating up it's a weird chip i don't know what is it for... (not gpu or cpu) also after re-trying everything above...something new appeard.. when i plug.in the charger...the laptop starts by itself... and sometimes.. it makes a little "electricity spark" at the battery connector ( where the battery and the mobo are.connecting) but.the spark thingy happend before too... dunno what to try more... i'll provide any info needed.. thinking about taking it to an IT shop...in duisburg germany.. where i live.. first maybe it's an easy fix.. if not the company that fixes mobos remains the last option.. Thank you all ! [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Jun 2020 06:58 PM PDT I've noticed that there are models that I'm picking up that aren't featured in iFixit's database yet - but for the models that are featured, they have good (often better) user guides than from the manufacturer. Given that some manufacturers don't even have repair instructions. Before learning of iFixit, my eventual goal has been to publicly release, for free, these guides and other information I can scrape (like part numbers, sometimes in PDFs but mostly on ebay) in one place, to do basically what iFixit already does, and to also keep a record of these guides for anyone who wants them past the date they're supported, even if it's for something too old for the current day (many companies take down laptop support pages after some support period). Like for example, someone could look up a model number and automatically see every part number for that model listed. I don't want to make any money off of it, I just believe there should be more energy put into this kind of thing and I love coding and repairing stuff. Tldr; I'm wondering what you all think about what the best use of my energy to make repair resources more accessible for laptops, and/or if I should focus less on laptops if these PDFs are redundant and iFixit does a good enough job. And also...if hosting them somewhere, even if for free, isn't legal? (I know Toshiba did a number on this site. Maybe a question for /r/legaladvice/) [link] [comments]

Asus TUF or Acer Nitro 5 ?? Budget Gaming Posted: 30 Jun 2020 11:30 AM PDT ASUS TUF FX505DT 15.6" Gaming Laptop - AMD Ryzen 5, GTX 1650, 512 GB SSD £700 Currys ACER Nitro 5 AN515-54 15.6" Gaming Laptop - Intel® Core™ i5, GTX 1650, 256 GB SSD £650 Currys Which would you guys recommend its mostly going to be used to College work/YouTube and hopefully when I find my love for gaming again play them on high settings aswell as the laptop being able to last many years. I am drawn to ACER as it looks ideal for my Intended purpose and ideally priced at £650 however the 120HZ screen on ASUS TUF sounds brilliant. I am currently trying to upgrade the ram on my daily use laptop Posted: 30 Jun 2020 11:15 AM PDT Excuse the extra or minimum information, I am not too into computers and just want to upgrade my current to save money and work through college at least Currently it only has 4gb ram, with only one slot. Here are my specs CPU: Intel Celeron N2050 @ 1.60GHz Current ram: 1 slot, 4gb, has DDR3, size is 4096 Mbytes, max bandwidth PC3-12800 (800 MHz) Motherboard: Dell Inc. 0CP33T I'm currently asking because the way my computer is running currently is too slow for what I need it. Does anyone have any recommendations for what I could put in? Does anyone know of compatible options? Any advice would be helpful. [link] [comments]
