Posted: 02 Jun 2020 08:19 AM PDT as many others i also had the problem that all my settings where lost on the last big update so i would like before i upgrade to backup all my settings i know how to backup the Local Group Policy and firewall, but not all the folder view settings, startup programs, disabled or removed services, lockscreen settings, and all other windows settings i just wanted to update and have everything as it was before the update, instead of a "refresh" and having to waste hours configuring everything again using windows 10 pro 1903, admin account enabled (i have full control of the system) many thanks! My second drive has disappeared Posted: 02 Jun 2020 05:20 PM PDT Hi guys, I upgraded my C Drive(SSD) for a new SANDISK SSD and I used their cloning software to clone the C drive. So, that successful cloned. I swap that out. Boots up nice... BUT MY SECONDARY SSD Drive has disappeared!!!! I can see it in Device Manager but can't access any of the data on it through windows. I've tried googling and most of it says to intialise disk but for me the only option comes up with new simple volume or something like that can't remeber. I really need the data that was on there! Any helps please!!!?? Thanks [link] [comments]
Best lite version of Win7/10 to run on old laptop/low spec hardware Posted: 02 Jun 2020 10:50 AM PDT Hi! My laptop does run well windows, but it is very very laggy. expecially when jt comes to see youtube videos! It is a celeron n2830 with 4gb of ram! Only Igpu I tried out Tiny7 and it is pretty fast, only 200mb of ram memory, only 3gb of rom space, but it wont work sometimes and has too much bugs. Anything that is similar but more reliable? Any win10 tiny edition? Thanks [link] [comments]
Have Bitlocker key, how can I copy volume when I can’t boot/login? Posted: 02 Jun 2020 06:50 PM PDT So, the short version is I have a win 7 laptop that was part of a domain. However, the domain The laptop was a part of is no more, (former deceased corporate employer). and the supposedly known local admin password is .... wrong! A known domain account/password mine fails for lack of a DC to talk to. normally, I'd just pop the drive, and copy the data off... but... bitlocker. However, I do actually have the bitlocker recovery key, and it is valid. But it won't get me far. what I can't put together at this point is what tools I can use to unlock the drive without being able to launch windows. Ideally, I would simply boot from a usb, but if I do that, I don't have an opportunity to enter the bitlocker key. what tools should I be looking at.... google searches all point to questionable paid recovery tools. I tried to boot with a WinPE usb drive, but that immediately gave an unrecoverable boot error. thanks [link] [comments]
Typing calc on start menu starts calendar Posted: 02 Jun 2020 07:50 AM PDT Hi there! I updated my 1809 for 1909, and since then I noticed OS is prioritizing new "metro" apps. For example, when I typed "proxy" it opened the network connections window, now it opens the new modern config. Ok, I can deal with it, since in this case the funcionality is the same. The main issue now is the calc. When I type calc on start menu, it suggest calendar. When I type calculator, it finds nothing. It only open calculator if I type calc.exe All other usual commnands work. Is there a way to fix it? [link] [comments]

Can I install the regular version of windows 10 on my usb hard drive? Posted: 02 Jun 2020 08:59 PM PDT I recently bought another hard drive for my pc off of amazon, but the day before it got here, my pc broke. I have a laptop with more storage than my pc and I wanted to recover data but I decided a new windows 10 install was fine because I had only a few pictures and google chrome. When I looked for a guide on the internet, it was all "Download wintousb and get a PORTABLE installation of windows 10". When I went to install the old fashioned way (making a bootable usb) it said that you cant install windows on a usb device. So if it is possible, can I install a REGULAR install of the current version of windows to my hard drive. [link] [comments]
Windows 10 - Games have gradual slowdown, feels like memory leak Posted: 02 Jun 2020 08:55 PM PDT I may be incorrect to say memory leak - I only know the term from Warcraft 3 days where certain custom maps would cause memory leaks and the game would gradually slow down such that it was best to restart the client every couple games. Symptoms: - Games slow down, hiccuping, lowering frame rate over time. Specs: OS Name Microsoft Windows 10 Pro Intel(R) HD Graphics 630 // NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Samsung 250 GB SSD Extra note: Using a giant 3440 x 1440 screen, but the slowdown was occurring before this anyways Attempted so far: - No anti virus or anything obvious. No extra processes running, completely stripped down. I'd really appreciate any advice on where to look next. Thank you! [link] [comments]
I just accidentally deleted 3TB of movies, it's not in the recycle bin, how do I get it back? Posted: 02 Jun 2020 08:54 PM PDT I selected a ton of folders, didn't notice one was the entire movie collection. It probably warned me that this folder is too large for the RB and will be fully deleted, but I was deleting so many things I instantly clicked yes. Is there any way to recover that? Downloading capped to 5mb/s except Microsoft store. Posted: 02 Jun 2020 08:15 PM PDT I think its a windows thing because the Microsoft store is the only thing that isn't capped to 5mb/s and goes to about 60mb/s [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Jun 2020 07:37 PM PDT Hi, I'm having an issue where I launch a game, it opens briefly, then goes back to desktop. The game is still running in the background --> I try to tab back into the game --> the screen goes dark and the game shows for a second --> then it goes back to desktop I can't seem to go back into the game. It is persistent in staying at desktop. I'm using an Acer A515 51G laptop, with an external monitor. I feel this might be the source of the issue, the system does not even recognize the existence of the "internal" monitor. I switch from "PC Screen Only" to "Second Screen Only". Nothing happens, the display stays on the external monitor. Help! [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 Jun 2020 06:53 PM PDT Hey guys so I've been having a boot up error where I'm unable to start this pc and require a copy of windows on a usb or cd to fix the issue. This pc is a windows 8.1 and since it's having this problem, am I able to use a copy of windows 10 and would it work? I do have a 8.1 cd but I don't want to use it just in case I can just use a copy of windows 10 on it. (Not my pc btw, just a note). [link] [comments]
Static Windows Image for ESXi How? Posted: 02 Jun 2020 06:32 PM PDT Basically I want to download w-10 and modify so nothing seeks to update itself . Basically shutdown ALL update and telemetry services so the image remains static. The image is for a VMware ESXi testing environment. So I want a specific build and needs to stay the version it is. Anyone have any idea how to do this? Would shutup10 do what I want or better to use VMware OS Optimization Tool. Thoughts? [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Jun 2020 10:56 AM PDT A few weeks back I got a new pc and installed windows on it. Everything works fine, except for the sound. Whenever I plug in headphones, doesn't matter what kind of headphones, my pc detects this and the audio is no longer output over the speakers, but also not over the headphones. It's just gone. No sounds. This is the case for any youtube video / program that was already open by the time I plugged them in. When I reload youtube, it's enough for the headphones to correctly work. I don't have to restart my PC or restart my browser, just reloading the page is enough. The same happens the other way: when I plug the headphones out, the sound is gone again though my PC does detect that it's supposed to use the speakers again and they are correctly set as the output device. I looked through my settings and it all seems normal, drivers are updated as well. Really no idea what to do about this. [link] [comments]

How to transfer upgraded Win10 RETAIL license to entirely new computer? Posted: 02 Jun 2020 05:53 PM PDT Building a new computer, so I won't be using any of my previous components. I upgraded to Windows 10 from 8.1 and verified I have a RETAIL license key, so it should be transferrable. How exactly do I go about de-activating it on my current PC, and re-activating it on my new one? Google brings up so many different solutions. [link] [comments]
"Ethernet" doesn't have a valid IP configuration, but it worked just fine a few hours ago. Posted: 02 Jun 2020 04:50 PM PDT The motherboard in my computer doesn't have wifi, and I don't have an ethernet port in my apartment. I'm therefore using a wifi-extender with an ethernet port (connected to my landlord's router), connected directly to my computer with an ethernet cable, to get internet. It has worked just fine so far (I got it a week ago). However, the internet was slow today and I asked my landlord to turn the router off and on again. He did. The extender picked up on this, and reconnected once the router was on again. My phone connected to the extender's wifi immediately without issue. However, the computer would not for the life of it identify the network via the ethernet cable, even though the wifi worked fine on my phone. The computer had previously been connected just fine to the extender via the cable. When I troubleshoot, it says ""Ethernet" doesn't have a valid IP configuration". It recognizes the computer as connected with an ethernet cable, but it says I don't have access to a network: "Your device is connected, but you might not be able to access anything on the network". I have tried resetting the network, it didn't help. I have tried manually putting in the connection requirements manually (IPv4), using my phone's IP address (and other IP addresses) when connected to the extender and the other information I needed. I did this with my dad, whose job it is to fix tech stuff, so I know I did everything right. It was unable to save the settings. We tried several different methods. I have tried switching the ethernet cable for another ethernet cable. I have tried messing with the command prompt, but I can't even use ipconfig /renew because it can't find a connection to the server. I don't know what to do at this point. The only thing that triggered this inability to connect, was turning the router off and on. Nothing else was done. I had no issues with the connection before the router was turned off. Any advice? Action Center Notifications Don't Automatically Go Away? Posted: 02 Jun 2020 07:33 AM PDT I'm back to windows after years on Mac and one thing that's really irritating me is that you have to manually clear the action center notifications. So I see a new email notification, go to outlook to check it, but the notification remains in the action center. Is there not a way for this to automatically go away? I couldn't find any other posts about this and it's quite annoying so I'd love for there to be a fix to this. [link] [comments]
How do I make the Windows 10 taskbar behave like Windows 7 and earlier? Posted: 02 Jun 2020 02:43 PM PDT In Windows 7 and earlier, the taskbar worked like this:
This made sense. I could arrange my quick launch icons in one consolidated area. Any open windows appeared in the remainder space of the taskbar. In Windows 10, it's all combined and messed up like this:
This is driving me insane, because if I launch an app (eg: Chrome), the open windows appear where the quick launch icon were... and causes the other quick launch icons to move over. You quickly end up with a crazy sequence of open and closed apps. How do I make it behave like it always did before? [link] [comments]
